Women With Handcuffs: Lesbian Cop Erotica

Rate this book
What is it about lesbian cops that push all the right buttons? Sure, there's the uniform with handcuffs, gun, and billy club, and the confidence, authority, and sense of danger. But there's something more that gives these uncompromising women their commanding, overwhelming sexuality.

The top-flight fiction writers tapped by Lambda Award winning editor Sacchi Green in Women with Handcuffs capture that irresistible force and channel it into fiercely erotic stories.

Delilah Devlin's cops play their "Only Game in Town" in a Southern city that's small without being small-minded.

Elizabeth Coldwell's handcuffed stripper in "Torn Off a Strip" meets her match, while Lynn Mixon's witness protection marshal finds (and gives) a "Healing Hand."

If you like your policewomen on the case and under the sheets, the hotly subversive stories in Women with Handcuffs are for you.

16 stories that involve lesbians and police. Certain amount of erotica involved.

NOTE: If you previously read 'Lesbian Cops: Erotic Investigations', also edited by Sacchi Green, then you have already read this book here. At least going by the Kindle sample - exact same set of stories in both books without an addition or subtraction.

Hollis by Jove Belle
A woman who is both a police detective and someone who sees themselves as being on the verge of middle age, is at a training . . . um . . thingie. Story opens while she's running for seven miles under the supervision of a FBI agent.

Apparently this police detective has a certain level of submissiveness, though only to those who she sees as being . . . um . . . strong enough. Which works out here, since she sees the FBI agent as strong enough, and that agent is quite happy with the concept of dominating another.

They have a moment in the agent's office.

Quite exciting, in its brief way.

Dress Uniform by Teresa Noelle Roberts
Not sure what to think of this one. Some hot moments. Some not so hot moments.

A woman with something of an anime fetish (which is good since her girlfriend looks quite anime girl-ish) is a police officer. She, the police officer, kind of losses it when her girlfriend suggests going to a fetish thingie wearing her uniform. Sex occurs. Then more lossing it. Then more sex.

hmms. Rating. hmms.

A Cop's Wife by Evan Mora
kids (not really seen much), family, crime, suspense

This . . . I do not really know how to rate this story. This story feels like it belongs in a different collection. it is technically 'good' but . . . it's kind of the opposite of erotica. You expect a certain something with erotica, and while I know there's a segment that involves 'dangerous erotica' or 'in danger'. But this isn't really that either.

A woman answers the phone. A man on it says that he is going to kill that woman's wife. That wife is a cop. The story involves both being super stressed and not having much in the way of sleep (as in none). This story is an 'impact' story - as in the impact and experience of what it actually means to be a cop's spouse. It is not, though, as mentioned, an erotic story.

Remove that 'Lesbian Cop Erotica' part from the title and this story would fit perfectly. Or at least remove that erotica part. But it does include that title.

I do not know how to rate this. I tentatively place a '3' on this while cringing a little while doing so.

Charity and Splendor by Andrea Dale
Dog, Kid, Single mom, Latina

Interesting enough story, though all but the 1 POV are distant from reader.

Kid learns of a police dog that got injured, learns that not all dogs have bulletproof vests because of the cost, talks with her mother. Talks mother into setting up charity to get some money for vests.

The police head dog person is a hot latina. As you would expect in a book like this, cop and mother hook up.

Nice enough story but kind of bland.

CHAPEL STREET BLUE by R.V. Raiment

I believe nearly half, maybe even 75% of this story was spent on how absolutely fabulously gorgeous the cop truly is. And how she knows it. And how every man whistles when she is near, even if they do not wish to do so. And how . . . bah.

Some portion was sex while talking about a creepy partner (the cop's partner), and the death of a hooker. Kind of . . . odd vibe combo.

Unfortunately, I didn't particularly like this one.

COP AT MY DOOR by R.G. Emanuelle
Wasn't sure where I was and accidentally read this one out of order.

Two women live in a house in NY (I know because a badge on a cops uniform says NYPD on it). They live next to a 'crazy neighbor' who is always calling the cops on them. So they see police at their door often - usually involves the same two police, though this specific occasion sees one of those two police with a different partner. One of the women who live in that house are literally dripping with excitement every time she sees one of these two police officers. Since this is a lesbian novel - it's the female officer she drools over.

One thing leads to another and . . . the officer yet again leaves without Lisa (or is Lisa the roommates name? mmphs. Yeah, the roommate is Lisa, the officer is 'Officer Brewer', and the lead POV in this story is 'Ms. Janssen'. The temp partner is named 'Officer Nolan'. Oh and when I say that she literally drips with excitement, I'll give an example: 'When I caught sight of those amazing brown eyes, my muscles went limp and my underwear got damp.' Finally - the lead POV, the non-cop, is named 'Morgan'. And Officer Brewer is Nicole Brewer).

Okay, now that's out of the way, let's try that paragraph above again: Morgan lusts after Officer Nicole, and Lisa pushes Morgan to ask Nicole out but Morgan constantly chickens out and takes all positive signs that Nicole is interested as meaning something else. One night, though, Nicole takes things into her own hands and stops by on her way home - as in off-duty.

Interesting quick brief story. Got an impression of Morgan, Nicole, and tiny tiny impression of Lisa. Vaguely hot graphic sex.

TORN OFF A STRIP by Elizabeth Coldwell
Female cop and male cop are called by a concerned neighbor to a disturbance in the neighborhood. They arrive to find a stripper wearing a fake cop outfit handcuffed outside a house. Apparently the stripper had decided to try to lift a wallet. Got caught.

Female cop sends male cop inside. Once the way is clear, female cop molests the stripper. The end.

The story is from the point of view from the female cop. And she's just sure that the stripper appreciated the attention and got off on it. To me, it just reminds me that women can rape women.

I'd like to give this story some kind of negative stars rating.

Officer Birch by J.N. Gallagher
Mental illness

Hmm. This is a super creepy story. A young woman is rescued by the school security officer. A friend there makes a comment like 'I'll bet [she] is into some really hard-core dyke sex shit' and the young woman seemed to run with that concept.

The story is basically a note to that police officer, years later. It's very 'me me me me me me me', and not a love note. The character tells the cop that she developed this belief as to what kind of woman the cop was, and so the young woman went about the process of learning - watching hard core lesbian porn, writing stories based off of that -- etc etc.

The point I am attempting to make is that the character comes off as a deranged person suffering mental illness - there is nothing in the story that indicates that she actually knows anything about the police officer. She even says, in the beginning '... Officer Birch. No, I'm not going to call you Melissa, or Mel.' - The character is fixated on the idea of Officer Birch, not on whoever the fuck 'Melissa' might be - who the woman under the uniform might be.

So. Another one I have no clue how to rate. Another non-erotica story in a 'erotica' collection.

I'll give this one a rating of . . . I've no idea. It's not a story so much as a rant. A deranged rant. By someone who should be in a mental hospital. So, on the one hand, this is not in any way erotica. On the other, the author did a rather good job creating a deranged psycho. So . . . um. I'll tentatively give this one a 2.75.

Raven Brings the Light by Kenzie Mathews
Alaska, small town, frozen dead body, teacher, cop, native/Norwegian/Irish

Told from the point of view of the teacher in the story - the story consists of learning that someone who had gone missing for six months had their body found - and the ramifications on the police (and their families) of finding the body. Though, as mentioned, told through the eyes of the teacher, who, while she knew the dead woman, didn't have to find and deal with the body.

Good solid interesting story.

Healing Hand by Lynn Mixon
Witness Protection, US Marshal

The story is from the point of view of a woman who was a professional gambler, and has now been in witness protection for the last 5 years. The story kicks off with that woman hearing a car, grabbing a shotgun, and looking outside. Spotting a slick SUV - out of place in the mountains of her home. A US Marshal steps out - one that the woman knows.

That US Marshal mentions that the evil dude who is the reason for the woman to be in protective custody had escaped.

The story then proceeds to have the protector and protectee engage in a display of erotic play. Though in a much better and more satisfying way that my little comment might make it seem.

Undercover by Ily Goyanes
A vice detective goes undercover as a hooker. Stands on a cold rainy street corner in December in a miniskirt and halter top. Waiting. Standing. Getting wet from rain. Finally a car appears - the detective knows what she needs to do - get the 'John' to say the right words. But . . . it's a Jane. And a rather attractive Jane. Despite not saying the right words, the detective joins the 'Jane' in the car.

A quite fun little story.

Riding the Rails by Sacchi Green
Butch-Butch, Cop, Writer

A sergeant is escorting a Sultan's wife on a train. The sergeant hasn't had sex in a while, and the wife is very . . . touchy and interested in action. With any and everyone. Therefore the sergeant is kind of quite tense when an old college friend turned up.

That college friend joins them and sits across from the princess (apparently a Sultan's wife is a princess). Princess ups her game, and her breasts may or may not fall out, and some foot action might or might not occur.

One thing to note right off . . though I forgot to note it right off - you can tell how much I enjoyed this story by one specific factor - that college friend is packing. And I don't mean a gun (no, the sergeant is the one with the gun). By packing, I mean she's wearing a 8 inch strap on under her tight leather pants. I've never exactly been that thrilled when a character like that pops up - sounds painful. Heck, I don't even like wearing watches (or jewelry or whatever) because I don't like things tied down on me, clutching me (none of my shoes have laces).

And yet . . . this was a quite interesting and exciting little story. Two butch women, both normally the aggressors, and a third woman rubbing against them. Naturally, because of rules, they handcuff the third woman so she can't get a hand on them, but allow her to watch. As the butch women get it on in a train bathroom (by the way, wha? Somewhere in the story it was mentioned this was an Amtrak train - Amtrak bathrooms are barely larger than linen closets (by linen closet, I mean a room with a door - room wide enough for shelves right up against the door, as in there's no room in there but for towels and stuff) - so three women in there? And with 'action' occurring? hmms).

Right. So. Unexpectedly liked it. I'd rate it 4.73

Blazing June by J.L. Merrow
kid, single mother, housewife, cop, romance

A woman's next door neighbor seems unresponsive, so that woman contacts the police. The story starts with the police already there. They had to break in as the neighbor had had a fall.

Interesting story. Somewhat more romance in this one than some of the other stories in this collection. Solid story. I liked it well enough.

A Prayer before Bed by Annabeth Leong

Hmm. I'd read this one but then didn't include something here. Might be I only put something in a status update.

Ah, good, I did.

Prayer before bed - cop arrives at a crime scene. Is tasked to interview a witness. While her partner is in another room watching 'the kids'. Witness is somewhat insane, hostile, and - at one point - reaches forward and grips the cops nipple through her shirt.

Creepy, disturbing vibe.

Overall Rating for the 16 stories: 3.519375 (which is impressive in and off itself since one of the stories received the equivalent of 0 stars).

There are over 120,000 "full-time law enforcement officers who were authorized to make arrests and carry firearms in the United States" (as of 2008) spread across 73 Federal agencies (as of an article from 2012). State and local agencies have 765,000 full-time police with the power to make arrests, plus an additional 44,000 part-time (and therefore carry handcuffs - based on a 2008 Gov't report). The state and local agencies come in a wide range of places and occupations, from state, local, city, port, etc.

I mention all of the above because I noticed something along the way. The vast majority of the people walking around with handcuffs in this book were local police. It was not always obvious what specific department they worked for, but it was obvious that they were local police. There was at least one vice cop, one homicide detective, and one patrol officer. In addition, there was one FBI agent (hooked up with a local cop who was the POV), and one US Marshal. It's a book of erotic stories, I guess the lack of variation, the opportunity not taken is somewhat acceptable. I guess.

An interesting collection of stories. Some seemed misplaced - as in, while they might have included sex, they were not erotica stories. Most seemed relatively well-written, even the ones I rated poorly - I just didn't like those stories based on the meat of the story, not the underlying writing abilities of the author.

Of the sixteen authors present in this collection, I had previously read 2 of them - and liked their stories here. Both of whom fall into my 'highlights'.

1. Healing Hand by Lynn Mixon - 4.95
2. Hollis by Jove Belle - 4.89

I try and not include spoilers but my shelves are clues to the elements and themes in the book

Women with Handcuffs by Sacchi Green

HOLLIS by Jove Belle

This BDSM themed short had my attention from the moment Jen found Special Agent Hollis' dominance a turn on. This hot little bit does not disappoint. If you are a fan if moderate BDSM with use of paper clips as nipple clamps and other everyday items as a sexy toys. This story is for you.

ONLY GAME IN TOWN by Delilah Devlin

While this story wasn't as hot to me as the first (in the first the author used the setting to her advantage whereas this author used a lot of filler). I did like how this author described the looks of her characters as I am visual.

DRESS UNIFORM by Teresa Noelle Roberts

This was a take on a different kind of fetish I am familiar with. Where the dominant stays clothed and the sub is not. Uniform fetish was the highlight of this story and also the characters were likable.

A COP'S WIFE by Evan Mora

This was an OK story. Nothing wrong with the writing just not really in the mood for the emotional intensity it tried to pack into 12 or so pages.

CHARITY AND SPLENDOR by Andrea Dale

This was the kind of love and family romance I remember reading back when I had no idea there was erotica (except this is erotica lol). Monica is the sweet single yet older Mom of a teen. Rosa the sexy crush. I would love to read and extended version of this.

CHAPEL STREET BLUE by R.V. Raiment

Didn't care for this story a bit. Moving on. *

COP AT MY DOOR by R.G. Emanuelle

This was a sexy "crushing on my fantasy hard" story. I liked the crazy neighbor and even how the cop was a bit shy but aware of the crush. These two were smoking hot together!

TORN OFF A STRIP by Elizabeth Coldwell

This was HOT! The humiliation as punishment was perfect! This wasn't strictly a bdsm scene but the author made sure to toss in dress up, slut play, humiliation, stripper and outdoor sex.

OFFICER BIRCH by J.N. Gallager

This was HOT! The humiliation as punishment was perfect! This wasn't strictly a bdsm scene but the author made sure to toss in dress up, slut play, humiliation, stripper and outdoor sex.

RAVEN BRINGS THE LIGHT by Kenzie Mathews

I didn't quite connect with the characters. In short stories, even Erotica, I can find something relatable even if its fictionalized. This story didn't resonate. It was just OK.

by Lynn Nixon

This was a very touching story. An erotic romance where the characters were well written and the sex scene was steamy hot. I really enjoyed this one.

UNDERCOVER by lly Goyanes

This was a good story. I liked the characters and how the story unfolded. Even though "Trick" was a cop she couldn't deny her attraction to her target while undercover. Elements of D/s.

RIDING THE RAILS
by Sacchi Green

Very sexy! Perhaps it was the sex on a train aspect, familiar lovers, voyeurism or just damn fine writing bringing everything together. THIS author just shot to the top of my 'want to read' list.

BLAZING JUNE
by J.L. Merrow

Didn't care for this one. A little more romance than erotica.

A PRAYER BEFORE BED
By Annabeth Long

Raw and emotional. Shows how a cop should always be professional but can't always be and how a strong woman can't always be strong. Would love to see a longer story with these two.

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?
By Cheyenne Blue

I would consider a light sweet erotic romance. Nothing wrong with that I just prefer hardcore erotica. I will give the writing style and setting points overall a good story.

The whole world is a bad neighborhood. Shit happens. Someone has to clean it up. And sometimes unexpected pleasure serves as a consolation prize.

This is the message of the stories in this collection, each featuring a lesbian police officer and a willing female civilian or rookie cop. It would be very easy for the contributors to a collection with this theme to write over-the-top fantasies about unstoppable woman warriors with bullet-proof flesh who rock-and-roll all night with sultry suspects, ignoring professional ethics. Luckily, none of the stories in this book is that kind of cartoon.

In "Dress Uniform" by Teresa Noelle Roberts, the narrator is a lesbian cop whose girlfriend has asked her to wear her uniform to a fetish fair. The narrator controls her temper, then explains:

"'I'm not a fetish, Lisette. My uniform isn't a cos-play outfit or a vest and leather pants. Every time I've spanked you, you've been spanked by a cop. By me. By a woman you say you care about. And if that's not good enough for you, if you need the fucking uniform, I don't know what to do, because I can't treat it like fetish gear.'"

The narrator feels used and misunderstood, but then she reflects on the nature of sexual attraction:

"Sure, we happened to fit each other's fantasy look, but a lot of relationships started based on nothing more substantial than having an eye for curvy African-American women or redheads or tanned blonde athletes or whatever. Just because we each had a fetish for what the other wore didn't mean we didn't connect on other levels. We'd work this out somehow."

Lisette apologizes for pushing the narrator to accommodate her fetish, and the narrator finds a way to "work this out." She buys a "police uniform" in a fetish-wear store to wear for sex-play. In some sense, she agrees to play the role of sexy cop to please the woman in her life when she is not actually doing her job.

Several of these stories deal with the stress on family members, especially spouses, of police work. In "A Cop's Wife" by Evan Mora, the narrator gets anonymous telephoned threats for her wife Patrice, a Canadian cop who has captured violent sex offenders. As Patrice reminds her wife, the threats are a part of her job. Under the circumstances, sex between the two women is a life-affirming refusal to surrender to fear.

In "Raven Brings the Light" by Kenzie Mathews, another relationship story set in a harsh northern climate (Alaska), the schoolteacher narrator is shaken by a TV news announcement about the murder of a young woman she knew. The teacher's partner, a cop, "didn't want to talk about it when she finally came home."

The narrator explains her partner's background: "In Thomasane's family, no one ever dared to laugh or smile, much less talk." The narrator even talks to her beloved rescue dogs. The two women bridge the gap between their communication styles by sharing traditional First Nations stories about Raven, a trickster figure who found a way to steal the precious light of the sun, moon and stars and throw them in the sky. It's a story of hope, and it's enough to convey the flavor of their relationship.

Another realistic story about an established relationship between a cop and her partner is "Chapel Street Blue" by R.V. Raiment. In this story, the cop is blessed or cursed with movie-star glamor, and she has to deal with a garden-variety horndog, the male cop she works with, while investigating the murder of a young sex worker by a more violent man. The cop's partner, the narrator, offers her the distraction of sex which ends dramatically: "A sudden surge and we are sliding sweat-soaked and laughing from the gorgeous peak, my lovely law-woman and I." But that's not the end of the story, which concludes with a revelation about how this perfect partnership began.

The story with the grittiest emotional tone in the collection is "A Prayer Before Bed" by Annabeth Leong. Once again, the murder of a woman by a violent man is the catalyst that kicks off the plot. In this case, however, trust is in short supply between the woman cop investigating the case and the woman witness who knows she is instrumental to it. Sexual attraction is a spark between them from the moment they meet, and emotional intimacy follows slowly.

"Officer Birch" is about a woman cop whose "professional" distance breaks the heart of the lonely young lesbian who reaches out to her for recognition and guidance. In a bittersweet sequel to an unequal relationship formed in a high school, the officer responds to a love-note twelve years after it is pressed into her hand. The young dyke who has never forgotten her says bluntly: "Whatever we are, whatever this is, is not a friendship." Whatever it is is intensely sexual.

Stories that feature BDSM scenes (as distinct from rough sex) include "Hollis" by Jove Belle, set in boot camp, and "Riding the Rails" by the editor, Sacchi Green, set on a train on which the spoiled fourth wife of a sultan must be escorted to Washington DC by a woman cop who encounters a woman she has known for years, a fellow-officer. In a claustrophobic, rhythmically-moving environment that no one can escape until the train stops, who will do what to whom else? The suspense builds to a climax.

In "Undercover" by Ily Goyanes, the narrator resents her assignment: "A lesbian rookie vice detective going undercover as a hooker. . . who woulda thunk?" The narrator has no desire to arrest johns when more violent offenders are at large. When a car pulls up and a woman with an air of command asks for the narrator's services, the undercover cop faces a dilemma: to keep the wire that will secretly record their conversation, or remove it and risk her career in law-enforcement. As things turn out, both women get what they want, and no one would dare penalize either of them.

In the humorous "Torn Off a Strip" by Elizabeth Coldwell, a woman officer is called to a party where a young amateur stripper deserves punishment--not for showing her body or for selling sex, but for supplementing her income with theft. The sex is hot, and the ending is happy.

Stories by Delilah Devlin, R.G. Emmanuelle, Andrea Dale and J.L. Merrow are gentler accounts of the routine stresses of police life and the challenge of a civilian who wants to seduce a cop.
In "How Does Your Garden Grow?" by Cheyenne Blue, a lush garden grown by an eccentric woman in the Australian outback is investigated by a policewoman who is really more interested in a different kind of bush than in digging up anything illegal. "Healing Hand" by Lynn Mixon features a woman in the witness protection program and the woman cop who wants to ensure her safety. In this case, the healing is mutual.

These stories vary considerably in tone, but all are memorable. This anthology is about sex for grown-ups, and about the nature and price of power.

Just don't steal it. You never know who might be watching you.

I picked this up out of curiosity from Venus Envy in Halifax, since most of the gay erotica I see is M/M, rather than W/W. This was a fun (and sexy!) collection of erotic short stories featuring lesbian police officers. I enjoyed most of the stories--each character had personality and the sexual encounters weren't forced or cheesy. A couple stories didn't resonate with me, but that isn't unusual for anthologies.

Too Hot to “Freeze”

This book was not what I expected. I'm not really sure what I did expect. Maybe some naughty officers frisking a fast woman or sex in the locker room. That is not what I got and I am nowhere near able to complain about it.

Sacchi Green put together a group of fourteen different authors in this compilation of cop themed short stories. While erotic, for the most part, everyday women in uniform. All but 1 of the stories was new to me and more than half the authors.

In spite of the heat level most stories were on the tender and even partially, the romantic side. There were a one night stand or two, a few with committed relationships, some potential couples. For the most part the stories weren't of randy sleep around girls, they were of mature women in mature situations and the voice of the book reflected this.

Hollis by Jove Bell was super hot and fun as was Dress Uniform by Teresa Noelle Roberts. RG Emanuelle and Ily Goyanes get in on the join in on the sexy romps with A Cop at My Door and Undressed. Charity and Splendor by Andrea Dale and A Cops Wife by Evan Mora really touched my heart as did Lynn Mixon and Cheyenne Blue with A Helping Hand and How does Your Garden Grow respectively. They were so strong and brave and loving and wonderful. Chapel Street Blues by RV Raiment had a real surprise twist.

Check it out for yourself.

What is sexier than passionate love shared between two women? Add a woman in uniform. The power and dominance that is naturally associated from the uniform escalates the lesbian fantasy to a whole new level.

As much as I am a fan of lesbianism (I’m a man. Need I say more?), I’m also a fan of good story telling. No doubt the stories in this book are chock full of girl on girl fun; however, when the writing is not done well it will diminish the fantasy.

Most of the stories contained in the book are good; some weren’t bad per se, but laughable at best; and two stories I found amazing because they really stood out. They were both done with such passion, and yes they were highly erotic, and graphic, but were also written in a tasteful way. The two stories are “Chapel Street Blue” by R. V. Raiment, and “Riding the Rails” by Sacchi Green.

Overall it was a fun book of stories.

I expected to give this 5 stars. LESBIAN COP EROTICA!! What's not to love, right?? Well.... hmm, sad to say, this didn't live up to the hype. There were a handful of standouts that I enjoyed, but the majority ranged from take it or leave it, meh, so-so, and just ok. Oddball situations that no actual police officer would be caught dead doing or they'd lose their badge in a millisecond.

This collection of short fiction isn't terribly distinct, considering its tonal spectrum of hard-edged lead characters, but one could argue that it's nevertheless diverse enough. The diversity of perspective is a welcomed treat, and the round exploration of the different types of policing provides readers with something to look forward to in each tale. WOMEN WITH HANDCUFFS has a lot of good stuff, even if all the stuff that isn't good, is really, really horrible.

The collection has a competent balance of stories that are fun, clever, and sprinkled with a dash of wholesomeness, as well as stories that are full of quality drama. On the lighter end, "Dress Uniform" (Teresa Noelle Roberts) spots two lovers, one of whom is a cop who is reluctant to indulge in using her work uniform for her partner's costumed fun time. How does one separate work and play, when they look so similar? "Charity and Splendor" (Andrea Dale) is a delightful tale. Monica is the single parent of a dog-crazy grade-schooler. When her daughter helps organize a local charity to help animals in need, local officer Rosa Mendez steps in to help in an legal capacity, and the two engage in the realistically hesitant but familiar and cute dating ritual known as: They Almost Know What They Are Doing.

In terms of quality drama, "Raven Brings the Light" (Kenzie Mathews) and "A Cop's Wife" (Evan Mora) take the top prize. In "Raven Brings the Light," well-rendered characters emerge from a well-focused narrative to cope with the lingering anxieties of police work. Thomasane is stoic; she's half Russian, a quarter Norwegian, and a quarter Indigenous. Her wife, Chris, is the entirety of her support network. The story is light on action but genuine on emotional tumult, using the remarkable parable of a raven and a hunter to articulate the push-pull survival-dynamic endemic to Thomasane's chosen profession.

In "A Cop's Wife," a stalker/murderer scenario hits a little too close to home, and a woman must find a way to protect her family, her lover, and herself, before she loses her mind. Cloistering the children. Losing sleep. And harboring anxious, broken kisses. This is the only story in WOMEN WITH HANDCUFFS in which readers are never quite sure the characters are going to come out unscathed.

Overall, the collection covers everything from witness protection to stakeouts to newbies-on-the-job. Many characters are ethnic minorities, which is excellent. Usually. There are some really bad apples. The worst of which is "A Prayer Before Bed" (Anabeth Leong), which churns together an abusive relationship between two black women. Everything about this story is undesirable, from the caricatured roles to the ham-fisted social commentary. Even worse, the author repeatedly and shallowly relies on fetishistic and dehumanizing language, and does not at all appear capable of, much less interested in, writing a competent black character.

First of all, let me say I understand where the title comes from. I'm an absolute fool for a man in uniform, so I can certainly relate. Not to mention the inherent authority and 'butchiness' of a police uniform...Lord, I have goose bumps.

The stories were quite varied in their approach, even though they all had cops in them. Some tamer than others, but all very good.

Particularly intriguing was 'Undercover' by Ily Goyanes. This story felt like the prologue to a novel. Would love to see what happens with Trick and Kate, do they get an HEA?

In summary, most had all the ingredients I look for: believable, likeable characters and setting, weaved into interesting and fun story that left me wanting more. Even though f/f is not my cuppa, I'd read more by most of these writers.

Confession of my own - I'm a sucker for female figures of authority in uniform. Males are just domineering when they put on that outfit, but there's just an allure about women in uniform. Hence I was pretty excited to read this book!

I like that it's not just tasteless porn. Trust me, I've read a lot of that. The smut content is definitely present, but weaved in very nicely and doesn't downplay the emotions of the characters. All the stories were pretty well-chosen, because they managed to bring out the emotional frailty and strength of the characters convincingly and hearteningly. It's a book I'd read again!

As someone who is a bit wary of law enforcement, I was surprised how much I found myself enjoying some of the stories in Lesbian Cops. Edited by Sacchi Green, this collection includes stories spanning across the field of law enforcement, from small town cops to federal agents.

The cops in this collection take their commitment to protect and serve very seriously. Several of the stories highlight the officers commitment to their communities and the people in their lives. Other stories find cops hooking up with a handcuffed hottie or donning a latex uniform. From an FBI agent putting a trainee through the paces to an undercover rookie cop, these women are hot both in and out of uniform.

I want to like this, but I got bored with the stories fairly quickly. I'm more interested in power dynamics that are adopted because they are intentional than power dynamics from social hierarchy and positions of power.

Great storytelling

All these little short stories are great reading. I always enjoy the mix of the different ways women write about the joys of women and how we love them.
