Things didn’t quite go as planned. Joule Faraday liberated hundreds of modifieds—including Knox—however, trouble has a way of dominating her life. The cost was her freedom and nearly her life, but she’d pay it again just to free him. Her heart is failing, she can’t access her charge, and she’s too weak to attempt an escape herself.

The disturbed geneticist has her again. She’ll die without Dr. Truman’s intervention, but the experimental treatment might kill her too.

Knox Price finally had Joule again just to have her ripped away. His freedom is hardly a reward without her. Knox, Maya, Dylan, and Max are safe from Camp Lejeune but not from each other. Knox is furious that they forced him to leave Joule behind, but he can’t abandon them. He’ll need their help to find Joule.

For all of them, their survival hinges on finding Charis, a friend of the Faradays. If they can make the cross-country journey to her refuge for modifieds … maybe they’ll be safe. But secrets are being kept. Charis has an agenda that divides the friends. Her compound is working for them… Until safety unravels, integrity is questioned, and motives become enlighteningly suspicious.

And Joule … her body still isn’t right. Maybe Dr. Truman did something else to her.

Something out of her control.

Annie Streger has lived a thousand lives, falling into worlds that she has read or written. She creates strong character driven stories that explore real world situations and have been woven into something extra.

Annie grew up in a delightful suburb south of Chicago. Despite living near Raleigh, North Carolina for almost half her life, she still considers herself a Midwesterner. Her happy place is the North Carolina mountains where she spends as much time as she can with her husband, three kids, and furry friends.

Annie has written dozens of novels—most not published—hundreds of stories and poems, and countless blurbs that may one day become a story.
