Regina: The Monster Inside, goes quickly from a simmer to a boil. It’s very hard to review a book without giving away its secrets, and this book is loaded with secrets. The parents are keeping secrets- that’s why they’ve moved around so much. Regina’s new best friend, Imogen has a secret, too. And Regina? She’s the key to the biggest mystery of all. Every girl has some growing pains, but when she comes into her own, it places everyone she loves in danger, and all Hell breaks loose. This isn’t your typical coming-of-age story; not by a long shot. It isn’t the typical vampire story, either. Nor is it just a young adult romance, although there is a tease of young love between Regina and a young half-elf named Jay. Somehow, it is an amazing mix of all of those things. To me, it reads like a classic, gothic novel, and I loved that. The description is rich, and the characters are well-rounded.The villain was someone I really didn’t see coming. That surprised me, in a wonderful way, because usually I can spot the villain from a mile away. (See, I told you that I wouldn’t give away the book’s secrets.) The fun of a book is in discovering it for yourself. I understand that this is just book 1 of a trilogy, which is great, because the cliffhanger is a doozy. It was the perfect place to leave us hanging, and I can’t wait for book 2 to come out. Ms. Singh has outdone herself. If this is just her first published book, then she should have a long, and fruitful career ahead of her. I loved this book, and have been recommending it to everyone on Facebook and Twitter. Take my advice and discover it for yourself.
Regina has never led a normal life, her parents constantly moving, never settling, no time for friends - but she is happy with that life. Until her 16th birthday draws near and strange things make her question everything she thought she knew.
What a fun start to a new Fantasy series! There are a lot of changes on the horizon for 15 year old Reggie, she has a teacher that she likes and is finally taking an interest in school; she has a friend for the first time in her life; oh, and she's started floating when she's not paying attention.
I really like how Singh builds the world, and the history of all her supernatural creatures. It is set early on that any child born of a vampire and witch will be a monster, unable to curb the darkness within; and it is interesting to see how everyone reacts to the newest threat.
After the initial shock of learning what she is, and the fact that her parents have lied her entire life about what they are; Reggie bounces back with a desire to learn everything. She develops control, and starts to push herself, testing her limits. It's lovely to watch how she develops. The supporting characters are all colourful and play their own part. I think my favourite was Imogen - trying to work out where she truly stood, and how truthful her friendship with Reggie was.
It is a fast-paced book, and in parts I felt a little lost, particularly when they went to join the rebels; and how they were found etc.
Anyways, a new series that I will definitely be continuing with!
Being the first book of a trilogy Regina: The Monster Inside has a big responsibility to ensure its readers want to come back for more - and D M Singh has delivered a book just like that! The opening sceens draw you into the book, questioning what is going on and why, these questions are answered further in the book but are replaced with even more disire to continue reading and find out what lies in store for Regina. In a world were supernatural creatures are walking among us it is this fresh look on creatures we are all so aware of that makes this book stand out from the rest. The characters are instantly likeable, Regina is the perfect leading lady that you are instantly drawn to and feel her pain, anger and tourment and she struggles through her changing world. Other stand out characters are Imogen, Reginas best friends, she brings a sence of fun to the book which is welcoming. Helena is another stand out character, who feels like her pressence will just jump straight out of the pages, you can not help but being in awe of such a powerful character. The imagination of the writter comes across so well that you can instantly picture yourself in Reginas surroundings, one of my favourite sceens is in the large manor garden, under the red blossom tree. Regina the book really does captivate you as a reader, drawing you in for more; and delving you into a world that begs you to stay. Described as a book for YA I believe this book will be enjoyed by people of all ages. Now begins the wait for the second part to be released...as I'm sure I am not the only person wanting to find out what happens next. By Chris Turnbull
This is another book I have had gathering dust on my kindle for a while and the time seemed right to pick it up and read it. Regina is a teenager who hasn’t exactly had a normal life as her parents move her from place to place and, as a result, she doesn’t bond with anyone, in fact, she’s never had a friend until she meets Imogen. Imogen and her family introduce Regina to the secrets that her own family were trying to protect her from. This author takes you on a journey with Regina as she finds out things that no teenager should find out about herself and discovers talents and skills that she would never have suspected. Along with these skills, she discovers dangers that would daunt even the most fearless adult. Who can she trust? Everyone is not as they seem. This book contains a gentle love story, adventure, excitement, friendships and tragedy inside a well-told story. It does end on a cliffhanger so please can you hurry up writing as I can’t wait to read book two.
I Loved This Book! ~I hate spoilers but I do think it's important for readers to know when you buy this book you will get an awesome read.
In Regina, my heart broke so many times for the main character and I found myself rooting for her to get her BAD on LOL! In short~ An amazing thrilling story with captivating characters.A story that flows well because of her ability to manipulate and handle action scenes in the story. I don't think this story is a well known as it should be. I'm sure by the second book we will be seeing more interest circulate on this author. Best of Luck to you. ~~~Great story
There are Vampires, witches, elves, and lots of amazing otherworldly creatures to be found in D.M. Singh's, Regina The Monster Inside. I could envision the tale as it unfolded, bringing surprises and adventure throughout. I particularly liked the depiction of the elves and Regina's adorable leafy friend, Gerald. I was fortunate enough to win a signed copy of this lovely book, and, not wishing to ruin its appearance, I gave it pride of place on my bookshelf and downloaded an e-copy from amazon. I would recommend this fresh and lively novel to all lovers of YA, fantasy and paranormal themes.
After waiting so very long for this book to arrive (my American friends receiving theirs first) I finally tucked into the much longed for story and I was not disappointed. The book had me hooked from the start. Only disappointing part was that it seemed to end before it began and now I have to wait until 2015 for book 2.
I only gave it a 4 star because my copy seemed to have some grammatical errors and in parts some paragraphs didn't quite flow smoothly.
Wow, what an amazing world I have been in, while reading this book. Witches, elves, vampires (not the twinkly type) and more, they're all there, along with an adorable plant, called Gerald... I want a plant that snores, purrs and eats biscuit crumbs!!
D.M. Singh had me hooked from the start, wove a magical tale..... then slammed a cliff-hanger at me and left me needing book 2 now!!
This book takes the reader on a journey of secrets and surprises. Regina is a likeable hero and I found myself sometimes identifying with her, sometimes fearing for her as if she were my daughter, and always respecting the experiences and growth she was going through. I don't want to spoil anything, but the other characters are hugely varied and interesting as well. I loved the way the author took risks with the various heros and villains by complicating the story when I least expected it. It is a fast paced ride beginning to end and I loved it. I can't wait to read the next in the series!

I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this book. But I kept reading and reading to find out what happened. I do like long books and this definitely hit the spot for length. I also found it didn't tend to ramble too much or dwell on any one thing just to get the word count up. Towards the end there needs to be a bit more editing. I started to notice words repeated and odd punctuation but all in all this is a great first effort and I'll definitely be getting the next one when it is released.
An exciting leap into a magical world unlike any other. This book is full of characters that are unique and interesting. The heroine isn't perfect; she is young, makes mistakes, and often doesn't think her plans through. All of which makes her easy to relate to. Though at times the pacing is a bit slow, the story is otherwise engaging. Great read, can't wait for the sequel!
