Ingrid Larsen, an Inspector in the Norwegian police, struggles with life's dynamics. She is a single mother who has been assigned to a new case. A body has been found down at Moteidet Harbour in Florvag, a coastal village tucked away from the North Sea. As she investigates and begins to unravel the mystery of Lars Olsen's death, a 23-year-old man, unexpected consequences emerge, and her life is turned upside down.
Inspector Ingrid Larsen is a single mother, struggling with balancing home life with her successful career in the Norwegian police force. One day, a body is found at a local harbor, and it will trigger a landslide of secrets to spill in the small town. After the police identify the body, Ingrid begins the work of unpicking the twisted web of mystery surrounding the man’s death. Why was he killed? Who killed him? Each step of the investigation threatens to upend the quiet town. Will Ingrid be able to solve the case before more of the snow is covered in blood?
This is yet another amazing entry from a very talented author. Somehow she makes you feel like you are right in the middle of a frozen Norwegian landscape and hot on the trail of a killer. The characters jump off the page and live with you long after you put the book down. The book starts off relentless action and then dives head first into a very twisted and dark Scandinavian-style mystery. This is definitely not just your standard fjords and snow. The whole town feels isolated by the elements, and I felt a growing sense of dread from the first page the never let up even after finishing the last sentence.
I also enjoyed how we got to learn some essential Norwegian along the way. I felt so cultured by the end.
Y’all! This is a novella that packs the punch of a full-length thriller—seriously, this story doesn’t just whisper, it SCREAMS. Ingrid Larsen, our no-nonsense, slightly over-caffeinated Norwegian inspector and single mom, is juggling life, law, and the kind of case that makes you question every shadow along a foggy dock. When 23-year-old Lars Olsen turns up dead at Moteidet Harbour, Bailey drags us straight into a North Sea village dripping with salt, secrets, and suspense.
The writing? Razor-sharp, vivid, and cinematic—think chilly winds biting your face, the scent of the harbor in your nose, and the tension crawling up your spine. Ingrid’s character is multilayered, struggling with her own chaos while chasing down a killer, which makes her feel real, relatable, and refreshingly human. The plot twists land like icy waves, and just when you think you know where it’s going… BAM! You don’t.
This novella is fast, clever, and dripping with atmosphere—perfect for readers who love a sharp, tightly-woven mystery with just enough edge to leave you thinking about it long after you’ve closed the book. 🌫️🕵️♀️ Grab it, dive in, and prepare to get swept away.
“The Soul Cries of Florväg Seas” by Welz Bailey is a quick winter read packed with suspense. The atmospheric setting and unfolding mystery kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Bailey delivers tension, intrigue, and a gripping sense of danger in a tight, compelling story. A great pick for when you want a fast, chilling read.
A Norwegian single mum and police inspector, Ingrid Larson, has her hands full in this action-packed novella. Welz pulls at your heartstrings as her main character juggles childcare, a demanding job, and parental guilt.
What I love about any Welz Bailey story is that she puts you right there, in not only the heart-pounding action and intrigue that her stories provide but also the feel of the country and its atmosphere! She obviously puts in a lot of research, as I certainly felt the cold chill of the icy breeze and the choppy waters.
This short tale certainly packs a punch as Ingrid and her team try to solve a complex case and track a killer before they strike again. She brings you characters that you'll fall in love with and one or two you definitely won't! I flew through these pages and didn't want it to end! If you're looking for a fabulous, fast-paced five-star read, then look no further.
I had been waiting eagerly to read The Soul Cries Of Florvåg Seas after reading the other gripping thriller books by the greatly talented author Welz Bailey. This one is quite different from her Clara Strong series, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I loved this striking and fast-paced suspense thriller.

Welz has again succeeded in creating a truly suspenseful edge-of-your-seat thriller that held my attention from start to finish. A brilliant and tense narrative that held me spellbound and addicted to the story.
This is a terrific Nordic read, the kind where the author freezes your butt off with the weather. If you like a fast-paced and moving thriller with plenty of chills, well, make a cuppa of something hot to drink and grab your warmest blanket and settle in....
This novella is a great single sitting read. It has a lot packed into it. Inspector Ingrid Larsen is written so accurately of what every single mother goes through. It definitely stirred my emotions
So, so good! As a single working mama I related to Ingrid on such a personal level. Always finding sitters, shuffling between this person and the next, having a child grow up trusting everyone because that is what they learn when you need all hands on deck to help. I love this one. All of Welz Bailey's novels are fantastic. Characters are well developed and have deep emotional touches to them. Quick Read to grab up for December and get your reading goals in.
The Soul Cries of Florvag Seas is a quietly powerful mystery that blends a haunting coastal atmosphere with deeply human emotion. Ingrid Larsen’s journey as both a detective and a single mother adds a raw authenticity that makes the investigation feel personal and unforgettable.
