Ella Walker Henderson is the author of character driven epic fantasy, full of adventure and a dash of romance. Some of her favorite tropes are enemies to friends to lovers, the heroine's journey, and the chosen duo's quest. She writes about women who must fight for what they love, whether on a battlefield or among friends. As she's always a fan of a good plot twist, you may not know which characters to trust.
I have once more consumed a book in this series in one day. The book picks off on book 2 cliff hanger. We see a lot more of some of the side characters that were introduced in the previous book. I thoroughly enjoy how integral the relationships with everyone else are to this book and the story line. It is really refreshing to see a story where it’s not just about everyone revolving around the FMC. I think it is why I really enjoyed the role that Car plays in this book.
I’ve enjoyed reading this book because the FMC is relatable since book 1 and continuous to be so. For example, Zaydah’s reaction to the meeting/big revelation seemed over dramatic/overthinking but I know that is the exact reaction that I would have as well 😂 Her situation with Brev and the feelings she still deals with are common in survivors of individuals that have been with a narcissist or in a domestically abusive relationship. Seeing how she carries herself and reacts is what makes her a relatable character.
My reaction throughout the whole book: Aris the man that you are!
I received an arc copy of this book and this is a voluntary review. All thoughts are my own.
BOOK BLURB: "Zaydah’s fate is bound to Prince Aris’s.
Much is undecided between them. When Zaydah disappears in the night without a trace, Prince Aris can feel her fear before things go dark between them. He knows she was taken, but not by whom.
When Zaydah awakens, alone in the dark and underground, she has no idea either.
But her captor soon reveals himself and an intricate web of plans that he lays before her. She’ll have to decide what she’s ready to give of herself and her future. Even more is expected of her than she’s dreamed.
Being the Shield won’t be enough to keep the darkness at bay. It’s coming for her. And it’s coming for her prince."
Another fantastic book! This series just gets better and better. The book picks up right where book 2 left off and new information is given right away. I love the character development. I love how Aris and Zaydah's relationship develops thought-out the book, I will say I wish it wasn't as slow burn as it is, HOWEVER, the pace their relationship goes is needed and the whys are explained. With that said the tension is so good and the moments they do have/ their banter had me smirking with reading. Can't wait to see where book 4 will take us and how the characters will over come their new situations.

The Dark Sky series by Ella Walker Henderson is my favorite series by this talented author! Book 3 reveals more truths, and clues drop like breadcrumbs as the story unfolds. Relationships are vital, especially while navigating court intrigue (I love how side characters are integral). Exciting new abilities develop between Zaydah, Aris, and their creatures. The slow-burn romance is swoony with all the feels, even if they are both still guarded. I gasped at the end of Book 3. Like Book 2, it ends on an intense cliffhanger. I received an early ARC from the author, and my review is voluntary.
Romance: so fantastic but clean Language: implied but clean
Probably my favorite of the series so far. I cannot get over Aris’ gentlemanly pursuit of her, just swoon. It’s definitely a struggle for Zaydah to trust herself with allowing her heart to love again. The dragon fight scene was fantastically written. This book is definitely setting up for something big to happen in the future books. I have a hope of what it will be but time will tell.
This book is even better than the second. I love the development between Aris and Zaydah. I cannot wait to see what happens in book 4 with that cliff hanger. Zaydah is in her head too much in my opinion but understandably with how things ended with Brev.
Every new book in this series gets better and better! I thought book 2 was my favorite but this one knocked it out of the park. The tension, the action, the plot, all of continuing to build and leaving you wanting more. I can’t wait for the next one!
Once again privileged to be ARC reader for a book in this series. Loved it as much as the first two though gotta admit the romantic tension had me in a chokehold this time. Highly recommend!
