Viking Wolves #3

Devotion of a Wolf

Rate this book
A familiar stranger. A forgotten past. A love that defies timelines.

Soren

For as long as I can remember, something’s been missing from my life. When I meet Lyall Eriksson, I realize it was never something I was missing but someone. Lyall is sweet and gorgeous, and our connection is instantaneous. Like we’ve known each other for years.

Because we have. Lyall insists that we had a life together… in the Viking Age.

Oh, yeah, and he’s a Viking werewolf.

My whole life has been a lie, constructed to protect the secrets of the paranormal world. Learning the truth could cost Lyall everything, and I could be forced to forget him, us, all over again.

Despite the risks, Lyall’s determined to remind me of the I’m his mate, and nothing, not even time itself, will come between us again.

Devotion of a Wolf is the third book in the Viking Wolves series, featuring amnesia, second chances, and a hard-won happy-ever-after. This installment can be read as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed sequentially.

Nothing will keep my mate from me. Not even time itself.

Another super sweet time with these Vikings/werewolves/time travelers!
Such a weird combo, but it works.

I knew love could hurt, but I never knew it could hurt so achingly sweet as this.

While there was some pining, some cute dates, a bit of Lyall trying to make Soren fall for him again, and my fave trope of all ‘shifter pretending to be a dog to be closer to his mate’ — I wanted more of all that. Soren found out the truth way too soon, and from then it’s just them exploring memories and hiding from Lyall’s family.
Still, a fun read and a very sweet second chance romance.

“Thank you for waiting for me.” His hand settles at the nape of my neck, warm as sunlight. “You are worth it, love.”

He doesn’t remember me.”
Anders snaps, “Then you’ll just have to make him fall in love with you again, idiot!”

I admit, this was not quite the story I thought this would be when Lyall and his traitor-mate were introduced in the first book. I was hoping for something more thrilling even after I learned this would be a different story than I expected. Still. It was a cute second-chance romance. I’m rounding up bc overall it’s a fitting addition to the series.

“You’re not alone anymore, sweetheart. I’m here.”

After a series of bad relationships, Soren is convinced he is meant to be alone for the rest of his life. Until he meets Lyall Eriksson. Lyall is handsome, charming, and sweet, and Soren can’t help but fall for him. But he soon learns that there is more to Lyall and their relationship than meets the eye. Lyall insists that Soren is his mate and that they had a life together once, in the Viking Age. Realizing his carefully constructed life is a lie, Soren will have to learn to trust Lyall again in order to remember his past.

*slight spoilers for the series ahead*

The third book in the Viking Wolves series and I ADORED IT! 🩷 I think so far this one is my favourite. I’ve always liked Lyall and I was excited to finally read his book. Unlike his brothers, who I also love, Lyall is sweet and gentle and that appealed a lot to me, maybe because of the juxtaposition of a viking werewolf being sweet haha. I LOVED the backstory of Lyall’s and Soren’s relationship, how they went from childhood friends to lovers. I also loved the concept of Lyall having to remind Soren of who they were to each other. I thought Ravenna handled this super well and it was captivating to read. Sweet Soren was such a lovely character and I liked how he inherently trusted Lyall to show him the truth of everything. YOUR HONOUR, THEY ARE SOULMATES 🩷🩷🩷

I loved how funny this book was as well. Each book in this series has made me laugh and giggle and kick my feet lol! Time travel is always hilarious when a character from the past is confronted by modern technology and customs. Lyall’s reaction to some things were so fkn hilarious lol!

In all, another amazing book in another amazing series! I look forward to book 4 for Gunnar’s and Arlo’s story (I especially like Arlo so I can’t wait for a whole book of his sassiness lol). Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review! Devotion of a Wolf comes out March 9th!

Independent reviewer for GRR I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 3 in the Viking Wolves series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, I personally recommend you read books one and two first. There were hints along the way about Lyall, and I had a story in my head, but it was totally wrong and I loved being made wrong. I loved both those books, too.

Book 1 was a slow burn, book 2 was an insta-burn, and this one is a second chance romance, and I am loving the marked differences between the three (so far) books.

Lyall and Soren were mated right before it all went to hell, and Soren took the blame. Exiled to another time, Lyall has to bide his time, because he told Soren he would find him, if it took him forever.

I loved how out of step Lyall felt being in the now time line. He made some funny comments about things and it gave the story a lighter lift, in places that it could have become really heavy.

I hated that Soren "forgot" Lyall, but found a connection to him, that he had been lacking in all other relationships. Lyall felt like home to Soren, and it takes time for them to fully appreciate why he feels that way.

Hated what was done to Soren by a vengeful witch. But loved that Lyall went over said witch's head and broke all her rules to show Soren about what happened. That he could be permenantly seperated from Soren was worth the risk, he loves him that much.

Loved that Wulf and Anders come round to Soren, and that even Gunnar seems to be thawing.

Speaking of Gunnar: he is next, the last brother to fall. He has already met his mate, Arlo, but rejected him. But there is a revelation in this book, that really REALLY makes me need to read that book!

I am loving this series and I do not want it to end!

"Devotion of a Wolf" is the third captivating installment in the Viking Wolves series, an enchanting blend of ancient mythology and modern adventure. This book follows the journey of a werewolf brother as he time-travels to present-day New York in search of his fated mate. If you are a fan of exhilarating tales filled with shapeshifters, witches, and romance, this series is a must-read.

As a devoted reader of the first two books in the series, I adore the recurring characters that enrich the narrative. The brothers, each with their distinctive traits, create a compelling dynamic that enhances the story's excitement. The interwoven fates of the werewolves and their human counterparts make every twist more engaging and immersive.

The plot takes an intriguing turn as Lyall, the oldest werewolf brother, faces the challenge of helping Soren regain his memories after being exiled through a time portal. The stakes are high, and the tension keeps you on the edge of your seat. With themes of love, heartache, and identity, this book does an exceptional job of blending adventure and emotion.

I wholeheartedly recommend reading the Viking Wolves series from the beginning. Each book builds upon the last, creating a rich tapestry of lore and character development that is deeply satisfying. As you turn the pages, you will find yourself eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this thrilling saga, just as I am for the next book in the series!

DEVOTION OF A WOLF tells Lyall and Soren's story. These two were mates when the Pack's world was shattered. Soren was blamed and exiled. Lyall spent the next years searching for him. What happens when they meet again?

This was both a sad story and a hopeful one. My heart broke for Soren in the years before Lyall found him again, and it broke for Lyall and his constant searching. But then they met, and I laughed at the various scenarios and conversations that happened. The text about the pigeon was very funny!

Lyall was so loyal to his family and his Pack, but I am glad things happened the way they did, and he was actually able to be loyal to Soren for a change. I understand the whys and whats, but it was long past time for the Pack to move on. Holding onto something like that isn't good for anyone.

While the focus is on Lyall and Soren, you do get a glimpse at Gunnar and Arlo. I think that is a story definitely worth waiting for, although summer 2026 can't get here quickly enough, so I can read their story. I'm also hoping to find out exactly what happened on that fateful day, and what preceded it.

This was a great addition to the series and definitely recommended by me.

5+++ Stars!!!

Devotion of a Wolf is the third book in the Viking Wolves series, and while it could be read as a standalone, for maximum enjoyment, I suggest reading it in order. Trust me, you won't regret it. This series is amazing.

While I've enjoyed the previous books and couples, Lyall and Soren's story tugged at my heartstrings the most. Lyall's the biggest golden retriever character ever. He's so loyal and sweet. I just wanted him to get his HEA and not have to suffer any longer. And Soren, too. He had longed to have a big love, especially after so much heartbreak. They were perfect for each other, and I was glad Lyall finally found Soren again.

I loved that Anders and Jamie helped Lyall so much. I wasn't all that sure about Soren's grandpa, but he wasn't all that bad in the end.

I'm very intrigued about Arlo and Gunnar now, especially with as much as I love Arlo. Heehee, it should be fun.

Overall, this was a fantastic journey that intertwined Lyall and Soren's past and present as they tried to recover Soren's memories and connect after so many years apart. It was a veritable rollercoaster of emotions that had me laughing, crying, and rooting for Lyall and Soren to get their hard-earned happily ever after. Definitely a recommendation from me.

Devotion of a Wolf - CJ Ravenna
5/5✨🌟

* SPOILERS *

I knew when I saw that Lyall’s story was next that it was going to be amazing. With every book comes out, it becomes my favorite and this is definitely my absolute favorite in the series. I can’t help but wait for the last and final story because Gunnar’s story is going to be beautiful.

If you’re looking for a book with shifters, second chances a time travel, read this book.

I love a good second chance and mix it in with amnesia, I’m totally going to read it. What I loved was how both Soren and Lyall have put Lyall’s family first before their own feelings. Protection at its finest.

I also loved the little funny moments too because sometimes you just need a good laugh. Heck, the man are kibble to be close to Soren. If that’s not love, then I don’t know what is.

This book is a healing journey to finding their back to one another and even his family start to heal when a huge misunderstanding happened.

There is a little bit of angst but what good story doesn’t have it because it’ll only make you want more. I felt for Soren because he was so scared to fall in love but when he meets Lyall, that changes everything for him and it’s just beautiful to watch the fall in love all over again because Lyall would do anything to make him happy.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Lyall had his fated mate in the human Soren, who was raised by Lyall’s father after his parents were killed in a wolf raid. Soren grows up at Lyall’s side, knowing it was not this village, not these wolves that killed his parents. But years later, when a group of missionaries visits the village, they turn around and attack it, killing Lyall’s father, the chief, and Gunner's mate and son. It turns out the leader was Soren’s father. Wulfrik , now chief, exiles Soren, who has been accused of infiltrating the village to aid his father. Lyall could have gone with him, but he felt his family needed him more. He promised Soren he would find him and secretly keeps a twig of the One Tree that activates the portal through which Soren has gone.
Years later, on one of his secret trips through the Port to New York, Lyall finally finds Soren tending bar. But Soren’s memory has been wiped by the witches that control the Portal, and although he feels something familiar about Lyall, he does not remember him.
Devotion is book 3 in the Viking Wolves series and can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest reading books 1 and 2 to make the most of it. Great world-building and characters you can love. And plenty to hate too!
I received an ARC of this book and am writing an honest review

Each book in this series involves time travel and in this one Viking Lyall, the oldest of his brothers, longs for and envies what each of his other 2 brothers has found.  But his circumstances are so sadly different.  He had to give up his mate Soren by sending him into the future without any memory of Soren's previous life and connection with Lyall.  All of Lyall's family and their pack members believed Soren collided with Soren's father to murder Lyall's father.  Lyall had to subject Soren to time travel to the future to save him.  Lyall's connection to searching for Soren forces him to travel to find Soren and bring him back to his world.  This story has some light moments when Lyall can't relate to the future world, his stumbling attempts to lure Soren into remembering loving Lyall, and the dangers each faces in each world.  Soren hasn't had much of a good future life.  He believes the lack of having a successful boyfriend relationship is doomed.  Meeting Lyall in the future holds promise but at what cost.  Having the chance to read this book gave this reader the chance to reconnect with all the previous wonderful characters made it a pleasure for me to read.

Another sweet read by CJ Ravenna!

Overall, I’m not a PNR or shifter romance reader, but there’s something about CJ Ravenna’s writing style that always draws me in.
Her books are so easy to read and follow. Just like Lyall and Soren’s story…

These two were fated mates, but an event occurred, and they’re separated. Leaving Soren with memory loss in another realm.
Lyall, however, never gives up. Even though the stakes with his family are high.
He’s devoted to his mate through and through.

Their first meeting doesn’t go as expected, but with some help, he comes up with a unique way to build a relationship with Soren again.
It is one of the sweetest things/ways I’ve ever read in a book.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lyall & Soren’s story and will probably reread it in the future.
Because who doesn’t want a devoted Viking man fighting for his mate?

In Devotion of a Wolf, we finally learn the story of Lyall and his exiled soulmate, Soren.
The book is very emotional! Lyall has finally found his soulmate. He lives in the same time period as Anders and Jamie. However, Soren's memory has been erased and replaced with other recollections. These are the perfect ingredients for a book that will rip your heart out of your chest!
Lyall is sweet, and his enthusiasm (and panic) when discovering things in our time is adorable. His deep love for Soren and the sacrifices he had to make are palpable throughout the story.
Soren is not happy, either. Despite the loss of his memory, he feels an emptiness inside that none of his partners can fill. He decides to give up on love. That's when he meets a fascinating stranger.
Their journey to a HEA is an emotional roller coaster—a highly suspenseful story with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat!
I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Review for (Viking Wolves-3) Devotion of a Wolf by CJ Ravenna

This story is the third book in this fantastic new series, and I was lucky enough to be given the chance to read and review it. This story has Amnesia. Given another chance, two men are fighting for the life they deserve from each other. I love stories that have a hard HEA. Soren has felt for so long that there is more in his life. Lyall makes him realize what was missing: not something but someone. There is one thing that Lyall says that is really weird. They had had a life together, but in the past. Lyall is also told that Soren was a werewolf. What is going on? Should he believe this man who has brought light to his world and shown him what he really needed? As time goes on, he finds out that what his life has been isn't really what was true. These two fight each other every time to find each other. I loved the paranormal part, along with the Viking take in this story. I really am happy I found this series by CJ Ravenna. Now I have to see what else this author might have.

It's Lyall's turn to find love. Except he had already found his fated mate, who was then exiled. Lyall has been searching for Soren for years, and when he finds him, Soren has no memory of him or their past together. So Lyall takes him on a trip down memory lane while forging a new relationship with present day Soren

The majority of this book takes place in the present. We get a good amount of Anders and Jamie, but don't see a ton of the other brothers. This was a very emotional story that had me laughing, crying, and everything in between. The lengths Lyall went to find his Fated were extraordinary, and he was so darn sweet.

I have really enjoyed this series, and I absolutely can not wait for Gunnar's book. He's the brother that has intrigued me the most, and I'm so curious to see how his and Arlo's relationship develops

This is such a wonderful book. I loved it so much CJ Ravenna is a great storyteller.
I have read a lot of shifter books and I’ve never come across one like this how they shift it’s so genius and different not like the others. This is the third book in the Viking wolves series. Devotion of a wolf is Lyle and Soren‘s book. I love Lyle and Soren honestly I love Kieran and wulfric and , Anders and Jamie. I can’t wait for Gunner and Arlo’s story. I love Arlo he was a hero in the second book and now a hero in this story. Hopefully he gets his own hero in his book. Which I have already said can’t wait to devour it. This really was a wonderful tale of love that never gives up. Lyall never gave up on Soren and witnessing the Devotion he had and never giving up hope just gives one the feels right in the chest area
This is NOT a standalone. Definitely read in order it’s so worth it.
I have received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

A story of amnesia, time travel, family, and Viking wolf shifters. Lyall has been searching for his mate Soren for years. Soren was blamed for the attack on their village and was banned to the future with all of his memories removed. He thinks he is a normal human with a tragic family backstory who lives with his grandfather. Soren has had a series of short term relationships that never felt right and he is done with dating altogether. Then Lyall shows up. Lyall is overjoyed to finally have found the man he has been desperate to reach for years, only to have Soren have no idea who he is. This is a story of patience and love. Both men have to accept that they are not who they once were and that they have to work at finding their love again. Lyall also has to contend with a family that thinks Soren is the enemy. I rooted for these 2 the whole time and the pay off is so good after the pain. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

TTA, metal dragon, Tamaskan, beef stew, bee stung snout, goodest boi, pigeon hunting, SFO, Hugin & Munin, supernatural DMV, golden torc, muzzle, ash in the earth, journey rune

You should have read Books #1 and #2, in order, before this. It's been a while since 'Viking Wolves' Book #2 came out. The wait was well worth it! Like the previous books in the series, "Devotion of a Wolf, Book #3" hits the bullseye. The story is compelling and is so well-written and captivating, it's easy to finish quickly.

Ulfhednar Lyall has been searching for his fated mate who was exiled in the future by the pack alpha. He's been looking for so long and is determined to find him. He finally finds Soren, but Soren's memory has been erased and altered with new, false memories. He doesn't recognize nor remember Lyall. Lyall is crestfallen, but with his twin brother Anders's and mate Jamie's help, he's resolved to get Soren to remember. Or to get him to fall in love with Lyall again.

I genuinely enjoyed reading this fantastic book. I happily and enthusiastically recommend it.

When Soren has yet again had another failed relationship, he swears of men, until a stranger appears at his door.
From Heart of a Wolf, we have always known that after that fateful day that resulted in the loss of Lyall's dad, Lyall's mate was exiled. Lyall's final words to him was that he would find him what ever time or place and now it is time for their story.
I was really looking forward to Lyall and Soren's story as I wanted know all about them from the moment they met and I got my wish told by flashbacks and memories. As for the present time, watching them go from strangers to lovers, having more of Ander and Jamie and I was still shocked seeing a smiling Ander.
There were unexpected scenes that I did not see coming and more about Gunter was revealed making me want his story even more.
This is another great addition to this series given us more from the Viking wolves

This is book three in the series and follows the third of four wolf shifter brothers.
And this story was just heartbreaking! Lyall was forced to make an impossible decision and sacrificed so much, including his own happiness. And Soren? He doesn't even realize why it feels like a part of his heart is missing.
Lyall is such an incredibly brave, devoted and dedicated mate, who literally traveled through time again and again to find the love of his life and win him over. I was devastated thinking of all the years he spent alone and hurting.
And Soren is such a sweet man, with a heart of gold, who was put through a truly cruel and unusual situation.
Thank the gods that fate is all-powerful and refuses to be denied.
This story of rediscovery was so sweet and sentimental and the intimate scenes were really tender and beautiful.

When his family is attacked and his father killed, Lyall must decide between standing with his brothers or letting his wrong-accused mate, Soren, be banished. The choice is excruciating, but at Soren's urging, Lyall picks his brothers, all the while longing for his mate and searching time and place for him.

When at last Lyall finds Soren, hundreds of years in the future, Soren doesn't remember him and Lyall must woe him back, all while potentially putting his brothers at risk.

This book was sweet and funny and sexy and my heart hurt for the decisions Lyall had to make over the years. Does the book, and the intricacies of time travel make any sense? Nope- but who cares? The MCs (and secondary characters) are great, the plot moves quickly, and the book is well written! Cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Really cool

I enjoy the fact that all the books, even though they have a similar background and have characters from the preceding books showing up, is unique. The love stories have the same running thread while still being widely different. I enjoyed how Lyall and Soren fall in love again, well, Soren falls in love again and Lyall simply continues. The amnesia trope is really fun in this one, and it’s well set up, with Soren having a life, but something preventing him from loving someone else, because deep inside he remembers Lyall. It’s a really cool one, and I loved Soren’s grandpa. I also like seeing how Lyall and his family are healing together, and how they are becoming who they were meant to be, while still honorable their father and his teachings. I liked this one a lot, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Lyall and Soren's story is so heartbreaking and combined with the amnesia trope made it even more so. I had my suspicions about Soren since Book 1, but after reading this couple's POV, I can see the other brother's books had a prejudiced and wrong view of Soren.

Lyall has to work extra hard to win Soren over again in the modern world, and I loved seeing Jamie and Anders help him navigate the new landscape and the times. The slang was so funny when misunderstood too lol (let him cook). I felt bad that Soren was so cautious about accepting Lyall's affections because Soren's been burned so many times, but that's only because he didn't know he had a fated mate. This was a journey of them falling in love again and I'm so glad they finally got their hard-earned HEA.

Can't wait for the next book!

OMG Lyall is the sweetest golden retriever ever. I loved every second of this book. I was so intrigued by Lyall and Sorens story from reading little hints in the first two books but nothing could have prepared me for the absolute cuteness overload of these two.

I was so invested in them and totally fell in love. Lyall is beyond devoted to Soren and so determined to make things right.
These stories have the perfect amount of spice and plot that weave a tale that will have you hooked and desperate for more.

I really enjoyed all the cute moments Soren and Lyall have together especially when Soren introduces Lyall to new foods and he is just a cute giant teddy bear when he experiences them all.

This story is a much read as is this entire series and I can't wait for the next instalment.

Devotion of a Wolf is the third book in the Viking Wolves series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This is the story of Soren and Lyall a Viking werewolf. The blurb gives you an idea of what to expect in the story but not the emotions or back story that we learn as we read. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I'm so happy we finally got Lyall's story. I really loved these two and watching them reconnect as Soren learned about his past with Lyall. I really love the way CJ Ravenna brings this world and the characters she has created to life. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

I’ve been so excited for Lyall and Soren’s story and CJ Ravenna didn’t disappoint! Lyall has been searching for Soren since Soren was banished for betraying the pack, though Lyall continues to maintain Soren’s innocence. When a chance encounter brings the two back together, things don’t quite go as planned when Soren has no idea who Lyall is. Will Lyall succeed in his second chance by once again wooing Soren? Or will other forces get in the way of their reunion? And can Lyall come to terms with the fact that who Soren is now isn’t necessarily the Soren that Lyall used to know? This is truly a fantastic read filled with spice, yearning and emotion, built on a relationship that spans centuries.

What a great book and I was so excited to read their book. Lyall has been suffering in losing his mate after Soren was exiled. He has been searching for years, when he enters a timeline that he felt their bond. Soren is living with his grandfather and wonders why any of his past relationships never work. When he gets home one night, someone comes up to him and wondering why he was hurting. When Anders comes up with a plan to have Soren spend the day with his brother, Soren is suppressed to see Lyall. As they get to know each other, especially whenLyall spent some time as a dog, I laughed. We get to see more of their background and see what really happened. I loved it and cannot wait to read the next book.

What a heartfelt and emotional instalment in the Viking Wolves series, and while it can be read alone, reading the series in order really heightens the experience. This story of Lyall and Soren is both tender and thrilling, blending second-chance romance with paranormal twists.

Lyall is the epitome of loyal and sweet, a golden retriever of a hero and Soren’s journey to rediscover their shared past adds depth and emotion. Watching them reconnect, navigate Soren’s amnesia, and fight for their bond had me fully invested. The supporting characters, especially Anders and Jamie, add warmth and humour, making the world feel lived-in and rich.

Overall, this was a beautifully crafted romance with plenty of heart, second-chance drama, and satisfying resolution. A rollercoaster of emotions that left me rooting for Lyall and Soren the entire way. Highly recommended.

"It aches that I can’t have both the love of my family and the man I love. That I must choose. It isn’t fair. But it’s my only option. A life with Soren will be worth any sacrifice. Won’t it?"

Time travelling queer viking werewolves - it continues to be be the most unique story combo I've come across, and that's why I continue to read and enjoy the series, despite it not being my fave of this author's work, it's still sweet and a bit crazy and easy to read. If you've read books one and two in the series and liked them then this book is for you. It definitely needs to be read in sequence.

Lyall and Soren’s story isn’t easy. They are separated by lies and have to live a lie to be together. I admit though, one of the things that fascinates me about this series is the time travel. That is not normally something I enjoy in books, but Viking wolf shifters….yeah I dig it. The way the author blended their version of time travel, regulation, and the rest of the superb world is so well done. These two have to fight for their happiness and Lyall has to make a choice for himself for once instead of for everyone else.

This series has been a great read for me and I have not been a pnr reader. But I have always loved time travel and the ideas that this series brings.
Soren and Lyall are fated but did the ultimate betrayal by one separate them forever. Soren has lived a lie his whole life. His life his family is not real and finding out the truth with Lyall and feeling complete for the first time is worth risking everything.
