With a month to get from Orange County, California to Delaware for his next corporate challenge, Milton Coleridge decides to spend a week at Joshua Tree National Park.
He never expected to find a floundering bookstore in need of his particular business skills. Will his methods of saving companies from bankruptcy or takeover work on such a small scale? And can he convince two people to risk their hearts?
Step into the Spines & Leaves, Tamarisk, California’s oldest (and only ever) bookstore. Come in out of the harsh, desert sun and wind and peruse all the store has to offer. It might just be more than you think.
One man, one store, thousands of books. What'll it take to keep this bookstore from becoming a book ghost town... and what'll it take for Milton to tie two heartstrings together?

Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.
Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25
Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.
They’re for you.
When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.
Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.
And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”
Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached. What does that even mean? It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.
But I do.
And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.
I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.
Spines and Leaves by Chautona Havig is a novella introducing the Bookstrings series. This is a sweet Christian tale. Milton Coleridge is traveling to Delaware when he comes across Tamarisk, California. Milton knows he must stop when he spots a bookstore in the town. Milton along with his parrotlet, Atticus enter the store to find it packed with books. Milton knows he could use his skills to turn this shop around. Milton with help from Ced, the manager of the bookstore (and daughter of the owner) and Marcus, the local deputy, begins making changes to the store to make it profitable. Milton notices the sparks between Ced and Marcus, but the two have yet to act on their feelings. While rejuvenating the Spines and Leaves, Milton works to tie two hearts together. Spines and Leaves is a charming story. I like the characters, though, I wish we had gotten more background on them. I hope we learn more about Milton in future books. His parrotlet, Atticus is adorable. I like that the author gave Milton an unusual pet (Atticus travels with Milton across the country). I loved all the books mentioned and the book quotes. Milton could rattle off book quotes (I was amazed at his memory), read people, pair people with books, and come up with creative solutions to problems. I love how Milton changed the bookstore. He is confident, kind, and logical. I enjoyed the faith element that is woven into the story along with the romance. Spines and Leaves is delightful beginning to the Bookstrings series. I look forward to Milton’s next adventure. Spines and Leaves is a booklover’s delight with a pretty parrotlet, spiny leaves, brimming bookshelves, hot and humid, clever concepts, and a charming romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to the Bookstrings series! What’s more fun than a struggling bookstore in a beautiful location, with several main characters that have the wrong perceptions of each other? I fell in love with Milton and his pet parrotlet; the way he’s able to read people, quote from books seemingly at random but with perfect precision (I wish I had that kind of memory!), and how he comes up with the most ingenious solutions. Ced and Marcus were also great characters, and I loved seeing the desert through their eyes. A fun, sweet story, and a quick read. Recommended.
I was given a review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.
Having read , I was thrilled to find out there was a novella. Spines and Leaves is the perfect introduction to the series.
I enjoyed seeing Milton and Atticus find their calling as they revitalized the languishing bookstore in nowhere, California. While this is a novella, Havig has packed SO much into this short story. This bookish book has romance, jealousy, drama, and so much more!
I highly recommend it to begin the Bookstrings series! Even though I have read the first book, I plan to reread it now that I have read this one before heading into the second book😁.
I picked this book up on a whim. I remember hearing Chautona mention something about it, but I wasn’t sure what I would be getting. It was such a fun read! I found myself smiling several times. Book quotes? Got it. Lots of books? Got it. A bookstore with too many books? Got it. A small town in the middle of nowhere? Got it. Delightful characters? Got it. And speaking of characters, Milton is the perfect man for this sort of job. I liked that he knew what he was doing, knew people as well as books (or maybe he knew people because he knew books?), and was willing to do something that needed done just because. He also played a little matchmaking. Not really though. It was more of helping others see what they hadn’t noticed. And he wasn’t obnoxious about it like some matchmakers! Now I want the next book.
Spine and Leaves is a desert bookstore that's looking pretty hopeless. But closing down would devastate 3 lives. Cede (Mercedes) is the woman who has to decide how much she's willing to risk, to make the important things work out.
I absolutely love her determination and courage, and got plenty of both amusement and frustration over the lack of communication between the characters who really should have been communicating.
Milton is a smart guy. Business savvy and compassionate. I'm thrilled that this is just the beginning of his story. It's going to be fun following him around the country, rescuing bookstores in distress. His sense of logic appeals to me, as does his confidence in what he knows.
There's just enough romance to make the story shine, especially with the focus on God's Amazing Grace.
Cute novella about restoring a failing book store. Loved the literary inclusions. The romance fell short for me, but enjoyed everything else about this one.
This book is delightful! I loved the characters, and found myself going back and forth rooting for each the two male characters to win the girl's affections. :) And as a bird lover and small parrot owner, I loved Atticus! I must say, though, the ending caught me a bit by surprise! A perfect read for a relaxing summer day! I read an advance copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Oh goodness! I've fallen in love with another of Chautona Havig's characters! This is such an exciting start for a series! I don't want to give anything away so I won't say why I'm so excited about where this new series will go because I want to let this book do its job and set it up perfectly for you too! All I will say is that I was a little worried for quite a bit of the book because I felt like I was falling for the wrong character, but it all worked out smashingly in the end - not in the way I expected, but a perfect set up for what is sure to be an amazing series! I can't wait!
I received a complimentary advance copy from the author.
This book is a great introduction to the series where we meet Milton and his side kick Atticus. Milton is someone who has a good business sense and a heart to help struggling bookstores. One thing I liked about the story was the different titles of books and authors that I discovered. I stopped and looked up everyone mentioned and wrote them down to read later. I love bookstores and could stay in there for hours. In fact I have a couple of times. There is something about being surrounded by books that give me a sense of contentment.
Milton is set on helping this quaint little bookstore come back to life. His vision is inspirational and breathes new life into the world of reading. Convincing Ced that her bookstore could use a little redo isn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Maybe she knows that the store is slowly becoming unimportant to the town. Ced may have doubts about the bookstore but she will soon learn that hope and patience will become a new beginning for her, oh I can feel the stirring of something exciting about to happen. I couldn’t wait to see what the author had in store for our characters.
I loved reading how Marcus and Ced slowly began to trust each other and allowed their feelings to grow. The faith element is just right in the book. With a glance at what this story means to be, I could only come up with Praise God for your mercy and blessings. Through these characters I saw how precious life is and how important it is to let others know how important they are to you.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
This is a delightful book! I loved the story of Milton and how he tried to save the bookstore. I loved the description of the California High Desert. I loved the love story in this book. I even loved his pet parrotlet! I highly recommend this book. It's good!
Addendum: I first read Spines & Leaves about a year ago (see the review I wrote then at https://ignitelit.com/spines-and-leaves/), soon after it was written, but when I read it again last week, I enjoyed it every bit as much. I loved reading a story set in one of my mom’s favorite places. I have never been there, but I have seen her pictures of Joshua Tree National Monument from when she lived in California in the 1960s. I also loved the story of how Milton helped revitalize a struggling bookstore, and his parrotlet was pure fun! The one thing I didn’t enjoy so much was the kiss that the love story in the book cantered around. I did like watching the interactions between Milton, Marcus and Ced, and how they learned to know and appreciate each other.
I read Book 1 (loved) of the Bookstrings series before knowing about this prequel and the Christmas “no-ella.” When I saw they became available for Kindle last week, I snapped them up! I’m looking forward to book 2 which is coming out in a few weeks.
This was a fun and touching quick read. I just love the community feel of this series. I love seeing people pour into others and be honest and compassionate. We need more of that in this world.
The FMC and other MMC are so typical of two people not connecting due to assumption, fear of vulnerability, and lack of communication.
Milton is just an amazing man. Atticus has everyone gushing and wanting to run and get a pet bird. It was nice to read some background on what happened to lead him to Twice Sold Tales (Book 1).
Whew!! Spines and Leaves by Chautona Havig is a not-to-be missed, fun ride involving a barely surviving, desert bookstore. The town of Tamarisk has almost nothing going for it, with several defunct stores and a few residences in the middle of Joshua Tree National Forest. But, wait! There’s a bookstore! Only a reader would understand how strong that pull is to Milton Coleridge as he enters with his parrotlet. We meet Mercedes, the daughter of the owner, who is managing the store until her ill father can get back on his feet. We see Marcus Mendez, a police officer who hides his feelings for Mercedes as he strives to protect his heart. We begin to see the makings of a love triangle between Marcus, Mercedes, and Milton.
Chautona Havig plays this triangle up well. I wanted to choose one man over the other, but couldn’t. Just as I would choose “Team Marcus” or “Team Milton,” the other would pull ahead by some act or word.
If you’ve never read Havig’s work before, this book is a good place to start. Havig brings her signature style with literature allusions, a touch of romance, plenty of snark and wit, faith lessons, and surprising twists that will keep you reading till the last word.
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“‘Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?’”
If he could save a company from bankruptcy or takeover, why couldn’t he save a fledgling relationship from failure?
“Just reminding myself that God’s goodness doesn’t disappear when things seem like they’re going all wrong.”
Mercedes’ heart sighed. I could have fallen for a guy like that… if stupid Marcus hadn’t been here first. Her head said she could choose to love whoever she wanted. Her heart stuck out its tongue and went, “Ptttthtt.” Heart won. Again.
Book people understand each other. There are special connections between bookworms that might exist between football fans or movie buffs, but I doubt it is the same.”
A fabulously fun and fast read that was just perfect to lift my spirits and put a smile on my face!
Milton Coleridge works helping turn companies around to make a profit. He has a month to get from Orange County, California to Delaware for his next job. On his way, he stops and spends a week at Joshua Tree National Park and finds the cutest little bookstore that is on the verge of closing. Spines and Leaves is the oldest bookstore in town and has a lot of spunk under the surface. But if things don’t change soon, the doors will have to be shut permanently. Milton comes in and uses his skills helping corporations make money to help the bookstore be able to keep its doors open.
This was such a fun Novella to read and enjoy. I so enjoyed this story and the character of Milton. Atticus might be my second favorite character from the book. It was a short book, moved at a quick pace and didn’t feel like there was an excess or fluff that didn’t need to be there, something I love in a book. Set in a small town in the California desert, Ced, the woman he meets who is running the bookstore for her father, knows his help will be vital and they work together to turn things around with some extra romance thrown in. I love the way Chautona Havig wrote these characters, the troubles they faced and how they kept their faith in working through their problems. The story was sweet with just the right amount of tension and romance. A fun start to a novella series that I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest. I recommend this series to anyone that loves a great Christian romance with heart and a lot to offer readers.
I’ve read and enjoyed many of Chautona Havig’s books. Of all the books written by her that I’ve read, the characters in this book are my very favorites. And who doesn’t love to read a book about a bookstore? This book has a beautiful story that revolves around friendship, kindness and seeking the best for others.
Milton Coleridge is very successful in business. He’s spending his vacation at Joshua Tree National Park, along with his traveling companion, a sweet smaller parrotlet, Atticus. But Milton also loves books and when he walks into the “Spines and Leaves” bookstore, he immediately sees some needs and wants to help the owners in any way that he can. What happens next will change everything for two of his new friends, Cassandra and Marcus.
Milton is a terrific character. He’s completely drawn to books and bookstores, and has the perfect quote for any occasion; however, it’s his care and compassion for people that is at the heart of this story. Milton, through an unusual set of circumstances, comes to appreciate more about the value of true friendship. I also learned something new in this book. One of the main characters is Atticus, a parrotlet. I wasn’t familiar with this bird, and after looking up some information about them, I found that Atticus is a charming addition to the story.
The author left us wanting to know more of Milton’s story. Please read the author’s comments on this blog. Happily, we’ll be able to read more about these two amazing characters.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
"Spines and Leaves" by Chautona Havig is the well-written, fun-filled story of a barely surviving desert bookstore, in the town of Tamarisk, in Joshua Tree National Forest. The bookstore attracts Milton Coleridge as he enters with his parrotlet. Mercedes, the daughter of the owner, manages the store until her ill father can recover. Marcus Mendez, a police officer, cleverly masks his feelings for Mercedes, as he valiantly tries to protect his own heart. This exciting book bears Chautona Havig's own unique signature style. It has clever allusions to literature, plenty of wit and wisdom, faith lessons for all to learn, and surprising twists and turns to capture the reader's attention from start to finish. Milton Coleridge has an excellent business sense and a humane heart to help bookstores struggling to survive. Milton is determined to help this quaint little bookstore spring back to life. His inspirational vision breathes exciting new life into the world of reading. Marcus and Ced learn to trust each other and slowly allow their feelings for each other to grow into the love that knows no end. Through this awesome book, we learn how precious life is and how important it is to let others know how important they are to us. Firmly believing that "books are the strings that tie hearts together," I highly recommend this inspiring book to all passionate readers who love to read to their hearts' contentment.
Spines & Leaves is book number 0 in the Bookstrings series that is written by Chautona Havig. This was a quick and easy read. Milton has a month to get from Orange County, California to Delaware. However, he stops in Tamarisk, California when he sees a bookstore. Spines & Leaves is currently being run by the owners daughter, Ced (Full name is Mercedes). She came to town to help run the store when her father had fallen ill. She is struggling to see the book succeed and is worried that store will go under and her dad's dreams down the drain .
Milton, and his parrolet, Atticus (who was my most favorite character) go in and look around. Milton's career involves saving companies from bankruptcy. He offers to help, pro bono and starts making changes. Ced helps and is hopeful for the future. One person who is not thrilled with Milton, Attitcus and the changes is Marcus. Marcus is worried that Ced will fall for Milton. However, when the store starts to show potential and a profit, Marcus starts to relax.
This was a quick easy read that will leave you smiling. The author always writes such wonderful characters. I can't wait to read more in the series. The author's description of her scenes is so vivid I could see myself walking through Spines & Leaves and touching all the books.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this boo - all thoughts are my own.
Spines & Leaves is a must-read by one of my favorite authors. I feel like anytime I say it’s by Chautona Havig you should immediately read it.
Add to the fact that it’s written by my favorite author that it also is a book about a bookstore. Umm hello, yes!
This book read so quickly and then it ended. And I wasn’t ready for it to end. Because these characters were now a part of my life and it was like leaving a great friend after the end of a night. Nobody wants the night to end but everyone knows they’re going to have to part ways. The sign of a truly wonderful book.
Atticus kind of steals the show. For me at least because To Kill a Mockingbird was a favorite of mine when I was younger. But also I love Milton and his knack for spouting book lines but also his ability to read people and help them. Five stars from me and make sure you grab yours now.
PS please know that this is the start of a series and you’ll probably be staring darts from your eyes at the last page while you have to wait to get the next book. Just so you know. I mean not that I would or anything. . .
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
"Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?"
And with those words, I am hooked! This novella was really well done! Really well. It did feel a bit rushed towards the end, but Chautona Havig had a great set up so that it felt like the end of a visit. You have this great time and by the time the guests are ready to go, the last minutes seem like a blur.
One of the things about short stories/novellas is that the "romance" seems a bit far-fetched for something that happens in such a short amount of time. However, here we have characters that have had an attraction to each other and then due to the plot line, their story becomes more entwined (come on! with a title like that I have been WAITING to use that word).
"Since when did joy and despair hold hands?"
I fell in love with Milton. He is just a neat character that is more endearing with his pet miniature parrot (call me Marcus here cause I can't remember the official name of this bird). The way Havig wove in books and plots and quotes from beloved books was enchanting. So many books from my childhood on the pages of a book. Books that no one has heard of, like Patty Fairchild! I can't wait to read the rest of the books. And this may be my favorite this from this year.... Ok so this is my first read of the year, but I still love it!
Spines and Leaves is a bookstore that is in need of financial help, or it will need to close its doors, going the way of too many indie bookstores already. Milton and his bird are traveling when they come across Mercedes, Ced for short, father's bookstore. Intrigued and loving books anyway, Milton decides to stop for a visit. What follows is Milton's use of his genius expertise in turning failing businesses around that just might give Spines and Leaves a fighting chance.
I found this interesting how just a few changes in the bookstore to make it more comfortable and accessible made a difference. Ced sees improvement right away. Sometimes we have to invest a little, take a chance, before something will turn around.
There is a sweet love story between Ced and police officer Marcus. Both are fighting showing their feelings and their reactions were cute and uncomfortable at times. It takes a little bit for them to open their eyes and see that a little change with each other could also reap some pretty big rewards. This is the start to a new series that sounds great.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Spines & Leaves was part of the Mosaic anthology Songs of Grace released last summer. I love this short novella. Chautona Havig successfully combines the story of a dying independent book store, a vacationing professional marketer, and romance into an enjoyable novella. In Spines & Leaves, Havig sets the scene for her series Bookstrings. Milton Coleridge is a professional marketer who helps save companies from bankruptcy or takeover. When he stops at a small, struggling, indie bookstore to get some books for the little libraries he sees in his travels, he decides to stick around. Without giving away details of the story, the events in this story create a path forward for Milton Coleridge and the future books in the Bookstrings series. Havig does a great job of developing characters, plots and relationships. I look forward to seeing where she takes Milton Coleridge and the Bookstrings series. Spines and Leaves is an adult novel that could easily be placed in a K-12 Christian school library. I think older middle schoolers and high schoolers would enjoy it. I received a complimentary copy of Spines & Leaves. This is my honest review.
I enjoyed this story the first time I read it in a novella collection, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time. Of course, I love books and bookstores, so that’s a big draw since it’s the main focus of the novel. And Milton Coleridge, with his fun parrot, Atticus, brings a lot to the page. Within the story, the tale promotes reading and the classics—all within a fun plot and restoration of a business and a relationship. The author is known for her quirky but delightful characters and plots, so don’t miss this fine representation of her work. And she makes everyone and the story line completely believable along with adding some twists and surprises. So, welcome to Spines & Leaves, Tamarisk, California’s oldest (and only) bookstore, out in the middle of a desert land along the tourist route. Join the visitors in this vicarious visit. You won’t be disappointed. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Perhaps my love of books prevents me from being objective about this book. But I found this book absolutely delightful to read. Spines & Leaves, Tamarisk, California’s oldest (and only ever) bookstore provides the perfect backdrop for this story. Chautona Havig once again creates a story filled with memorable characters including a bird, and an interesting storyline.
Milton Coleridge enters the bookstore while preparing to cross the country to his next corporation-saving job. He realizes the daughter of the bookstore’s owner needs his assistance, and sets out to help her. The chemistry between Marcus and Mercedes helps bring this book to life. So if you enjoy stories about book stores with interesting twists and turns, check out this book for yourself. I definitely found it worth reading.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I LOVED this book!! Anyone who loves books and bookstores will enjoy this book. Whenever I pick up book-related fiction, I'm always left disappointed. Romance is not my genre of choice, nor is Christian fiction. I find both to be shallow and sorely wanting in terms of literary value. So, I was hesitant to try another title with all the same elements that have failed me before...but I was very pleasantly surprised. This book was delightful (even though it's still Christian romance). I've already ordered the next book and I'm very impatiently waiting for it to arrive. I hope there are many more books in the series. In the story, I especially loved that the books and the bookstore featured fairly prominently. That's what booklovers want. And Milton and Atticus...well I'm already invested in those characters so I was almost devastated...nothing more to say on that...Aside from, 'Read the book'.
Each successive Bookstrings book I’ve read has become my new favourite. This one…it’s so sweet. I finished ready to tear up, not from sadness or frustration, but from just how beautiful it was. (While this is the first chronologically, I read it third and only have one currently released Bookstrings book to left read.)
Interspersed with wonderful book quotes, it’s a tale of friendships, perseverance, and family. While probably an ideal read for those who profess themselves to be Christians (versus those who would not like to see that in their fiction), I love that there is no religious “cheesy-ness” in here. Chautona manages to write characters of faith who don’t sound like they are parroting religious lines in the book merely to make sure Christ is forced in there somehow.
I ended more in love with the characters of Atticus and Milton than ever before and I think I’ll wait a minute…maybe a day or two ;)…to ensure I can savour the last one of these currently out.
Books about books and saving bookstores. It doesn’t get any better than that for a girl who loves stories. And I adore Milton. Though I would like for him to find a love of his own. He’s so sweet and caring and just a little bit nerdy in that really attractive way. And Milton inspires others to be their best and find solutions to their problems, whether they are business or heart related.
Spines and Leaves is an enjoyable story with a bookstore you’ll wish you could visit after the story is done and a cast of characters that feel like they could be friends you grew up with. It feels a bit like a step into the days when neighbors helped each other out and evenings were spent on the front porch swing. I give Spines and Leaves a solid four stars. I received an ARC of this book through Celebrate Lit. However, the opions and reviews are mine and freely given.
Spines and Leaves is part of Chautona Havig’s Bookstrings series. I thought it was a great little quick novella to read. It was fun taking an adventure with Milton and Atticus. It was sweet how he tries to bring two people together and help them. I love the setting of a bookstore in a quaint little Californian town. Even though it was a little predictable, it was still entertaining to read. With about one hundred pages, it was easy to finish in one sitting.
I am giving Spines and Leaves four stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romance novellas. I will be keeping my eye out for the other books that are part of the Bookstrings series.
I received a paperback copy of Spines and Leaves from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
What book lover doesn’t want to read a story with a bookstore setting? And this one is fun. Author Chautona Havig’s novella had a great setting with interesting descriptions. A bookstore in the desert? More than that, a bookstore in need of help. I found myself hoping it would survive. But did it? Read it and find out!
Interesting, even quirky, characters made this an enjoyable story. I couldn’t decide if I liked Milton or not. It will be fun to see if you do. The romance between…..guess(?) seemed a bit rushed but that’s the way it is with a novella. It didn’t detract from the enjoyment of reading Spines & Leaves.
If you enjoy a clean romance then you’ll enjoy this one. Grab a copy, sit back with your favorite beverage, and go hang out at Spines & Leaves.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
My bibliophile radar went into overdrive when I heard about this series. A man (and his parrotlet, Atticus) on a mission to save a languishing bookstore and, perhaps, ignite a spark in a couple clearly meant for each other but failing miserably at finding their way to romance. So — meet Milton the bookish matchmaker! 🙂
A short novella (112 pages) but immensely satisfying nonetheless. Havig has a beguiling way with words, creating pictures and emotions that bring her story to life. Relatable characters, a bookstore(!) and oodles of encouraging literary quotes kept me ecstatically engaged from start to finish.
And there’s romance. And high drama too. Seriously, this little book packs a powerful dose of story magic that made my heart sing and I’m now eager to dive into the next book ASAP.
