Definitely NOT A Thing

Rate this book
Smack in the middle of a cascade of unfortunate events, Amelia finds Calvin (derogatory)- cocky, annoying, too-often shirtless, and right next door (bummer).
Sparked by an unfortunate habit of inside thoughts not staying that way (she’s working on it!), their petty back-and-forth banter easily— and a little too quickly — slides into something neither of them shake.
Something.
But not like… a thing.
Definitely.

Audio Review
Duet Narration by Wesleigh Siobhan and Sharif Stevens

Tropes:
Neighbors-to-lovers
Reverse grumpy/sunshine
Forced proximity
Chaotic banter

Christina C. Jones understood the assignment with this one. Amelia is spiraling, life is lifing, and then Calvin—shirtless menace, human inconvenience, walking temptation—keeps showing up. Their bickering is hilarious, unhinged, and way too charged to be innocent.

The shift from “he annoys me” to “…oh no I want him” is smooth, chaotic, and so fun to watch unravel. Their chemistry cracked me up AND had me blushing. Amelia’s accidental honesty + Calvin’s smug reactions? Peak entertainment.

Wesleigh Siobhan and Sharif Stevens brought this story alive with ridiculous charm. The way they captured the comedic timing, the attitude, and the growing heat made the audio experience unforgettable.

This book is the perfect mix of funny, messy, spicy, and heartfelt. CCJ stays undefeated.

Definitely Not a Thing was an absolute joy from start to finish. I laughed out loud more than once at the banter in this book. The playful taunting and back-and-forth between Calvin and Amelia was chef’s kiss. Their chemistry was cute, natural, and genuinely fun to read. I found myself smiling the entire time.

What I loved most was how refreshing their dynamic felt. They were content with simply vibing, no rushing, no forcing unhealed relationship energy, no unnecessary drama. It was light, honest, and emotionally mature in a way that felt real and relatable.

This story was fun, flirty, and warm... the perfect quick read. I’m already a Christina C. Jones fan, and once again, she did not miss. While I wouldn’t have minded a bit more at the ending, for a short and fast-paced book, it delivered exactly what it needed to deliver.
A feel-good romance that leaves you smiling and sometimes laughing out loud.

Calvin was a fun character that taunted and nudged Amelia's nerves. I loved how he was NOT his stardom...instead, he came off as the guy next door that was carefree and fine. Amelia was stuck in turmoil after a bad breakup with an ex that lived in the same building (talk about coincidence). Through the struggles of the apartment and moving on, they found solace in one another to grow past their challenges.

Short and sweet

I enjoyed this story from start to finish. I enjoyed the interaction between Amelia and Calvin. I really loved Calvin’s sense of humor and light-hearted personality. I love everything about the Heights and Blackwood. I have loved every book Christina has put out. Get this book, in fact get all of Christina’s books. I am not her target demographic but that doesn’t change the fact that she is an excellent writer.

Good, cute, quick read with some good laughs. A light read with simple story line with no major drama. As others have said, I definitely wanted more. I highly enjoyed the narration with Wesleigh and Sharif. This was my first time hearing him and I enjoyed listening. I really appreciate them both reading their own parts and not someone doing a voice.

Story plays out like a rom-com 5 out of 5 stars! The story was hilarious, and I absolutely loved the side characters. Arthur, the maintenance man, and Genie, the delivery driver/valet/escort-on-delivery (??), were so funny. Amelia's friends had me laughing. and Mr. Calvin was beyond funny with the banter!! This is my first book from this author, but definitely not my last!

this was cute!

The ending felt to abrupt but CCJ writing never disappoints. Short and sweet is cool until you’re invested in the characters and want more. That’s how this was. Editing was spotty.

One of my favorite things in a romance is banter and I love the back and forth between Calvin and Amelia. This was a cute, quick read. Loved it! I wouldn’t mind a little update on these characters in the future.

In Definitely Not a Thing, Christina C. Jones once again proves her mastery of genuine, relatable Black romance. This novel is a beautifully executed slow-burn situationship that grabs hold of your heart from page one.
The characters are the book's backbone—flawed, authentic, and utterly magnetic, driving the story with crackling, top-tier banter. Jones achieves a perfect balance between palpable, swoon-worthy tension and genuine humor, setting the entire narrative against a rich backdrop of community and culture.
This is the kind of book that unfolds with the ideal mix of drama and softness, reminding readers that sometimes the thing we call "nothing" turns out to be everything. A truly irresistible, heartfelt read.
