The Glam Reaper’s Guide to Slaying by Bill Crisafi is an illustrated self-help book combining humor, the macabre, and affirmative language. The Glam Reaper is here to give readers some truths about self-love and treating others right.
Overall, there were a lot of sentiments that I have seen on social media over the years such as not putting others down to lift yourself up and that it's OK to be yourself even if other people don't get it. I don't know if this is the kind of book that is going to hold hard-hitting truths for most people, but it could probably serve as a reminder for others or be a fun gift for a friend who thinks of themselves as a glam reaper in their own way.
Because I got an ARC, I'm not sure what the final version will look like, but I would say that the art was sparse and pretty much exclusively the handful of characters that are used to deliver the affirmations and the truths. It's quite minimalistic and I can see the fashion influence from Bill Crisafi’s background.
I would recommend this to people who need a self-love reminder now and then
The Glam Reaper’s Guide to Slaying is the only self-help book anyone ever needs to read. The art style is fantastic and the message is to the point. I loved that each act was a collection of different characters.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and this review is voluntary
Wasn't all too familiar with the author's work, or that of the Glam Reaper prior to reading, but the description caught my interest, so I had to check it out.
A self-help book, the presentation and focus of which is more geared towards women, also offers advice that introduces perspective and introspection, for just about anyone. The Glam Reaper is our guide throughout the literature, dropping grains of knowledge or providing advice on topics we all may have experienced at least once in our lives.
With each new scene, the Glam Reaper helps their friends with the issues they are experiencing in life. For example: how we can approach and handle our own intrusive thoughts or inner demons. This can extend to how we perceive ourselves, as well as how we think others see us. Both play a role in our personal dynamic, our identity of which being shaped by these factors.
One thing the author captured perfectly was the warmth of having someone like the Glam Reaper in your life. It's about building up instead of tearing down. The art work is pretty trippy, and in light of its more minimalist leanings, there is a lot of detail captured between each character or scene. Overall, this was enjoyable for both the content and the wisdom gained as a result of the experience.
Thank you to publisher for this opportunity, and as always, to the author for creating material that absolutely slays
The Glam Reaper’s Guide to Slaying: Life Lessons for Rebellious Souls by Bill Crisafi is a bold and unconventional take on self help, blending humor, illustration, and unapologetic attitude into a refreshing guide to self acceptance. Through the character of the Glam Reaper and her eccentric circle, the book tackles familiar struggles like self-doubt, insecurity, and fear of judgment with wit and originality.
What makes this book stand out is its voice. It leans into irreverence and humor while still delivering meaningful insights, creating a tone that feels both entertaining and empowering. The use of quirky characters and exaggerated scenarios allows deeper emotional themes to surface in a way that feels approachable rather than heavy.
Each vignette focuses on a relatable internal challenge, from negative self-talk to lingering embarrassment, and offers simple but memorable reframes. The mix of visual storytelling and punchy affirmations reinforces its message in a way that’s easy to absorb and revisit.
At its core, The Glam Reaper’s Guide to Slaying is about reclaiming confidence and silencing inner criticism. It encourages readers to embrace their individuality, challenge self-imposed limits, and approach personal growth with both humor and boldness. It’s a lively, modern take on self-love that will resonate with readers looking for something outside the traditional self-help mold.
From Instagram artist and fashion designer Bill Crisafi, a reminder that sometimes, you just need someone to help you put the “bitch” in “obituary" to make the self-doubt, self-hate, and insecurity sashay away. Take a cat walk with the Glam Reaper as she helps her friends - Miss Phillip, Orange Frog, Miss Rotten, Sexy Ghost, Babushka Toad - recognize and slay their own inner demons with uplifting mantras and practical tips. While the journey to self-actualization is long and non-linear, reminding yourself that you're not alone and that you've got the power to rise above can be the push you need in the right direction. Let's Go, Ghouls!
If you've been on the internet for any amount of time you've definitely come across the Glam Reaper and her friends (I always know it's spooky season because suddenly Orange Frog is everywhere), and it's nice to see all the ghouls together in one book. There's 110% sassiness and some heartfelt tips an reminders here (the dedication at the beginning of the book made me tear up a bit, too), and I think anyone who's ever enjoyed this internet glamazon and occasionally needs some affirmation should grab a copy of this book for their spooky shelves!
Thank you netgalley for this arc the cover really caught my eye and im so glad i got the chance to read this one because it was so camp and i LOVED the artwork it was such a good spin and fierceness on a grim reaper who takes on a little journey and gives advice and calls us out on stuff we deal with in a humor way and i loved it. We meet friends along the way who are also dealing with things and the grim reaper snaps them out of it but my favorite part of this novel was the drawings and the cool artwork it was unique i had alot of favorite pieces and i will say at times it made me laugh just with all the lingo and the message to the authors mother was really sweet in the start of the book and i just know she would be so proud and love this book too! Great job! If you want a quick read and a self help graphic novel def read this one youll get a laugh too!
I did not expect to have a spiritual awakening courtesy of a glamorous Grim Reaper and a frog with a fashion crisis, yet here we are. The Glam Reaper's Guide to Slaying by Bill Crisafi is laugh-out-loud funny from page one. The art is stunning, bold, weird, maximalist in the best way. and the characters are genuinely iconic. Orange Frog. Babushka Toad. A demon with her own inner demon. I howled.
But underneath all the fabulousness is real, practical self-help that actually lands. "Tell those voices in your head to drop dead" is the most useful mental health advice I've gotten all year, and I'm not even joking.
The frogs alone earn five stars. This one is front and center in my store
I am obsessed with this! The Glam Reapers Guide to Slaying is a charmingly wicked little book. This is my kind of self-help book, it's entertaining and oddly inspiring. I was absolutely in love with the Glam Reaper character, and the illustrations are fantastic too!
We all need to practice a little more self love and acceptance. If you don't mind empowerment with a side of humor, then I definitely recommend this book. You should grab your own copy as soon as this releases and start slaying your days.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book is insane. Picture RuPaul as the Grim Reaper, and you're 100% on par for what this book is. Not only is it a fun and quick read, the illustrations are so much fun. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this book. I would recommend that everyone get a copy to keep on their coffee table. This is not only the perfect spooky time decoration and read, but it also would make a great gift for your spooky (yet glamorous) friends. It reminds you that life isn't that serious and above all else be kind. What a fun read!
Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow in the opportunity to review this copy!
William Morrow really had me here in tears feeling like a baddie that could tackle any hurdle in life as long as I knew I had the Glam Reaper guiding my way in recognizing my own strengths. The acknowledgment at the beginning of this book was beautiful. This book embodies one’s wish to let others feel seen and loved be it in their own macabre way. Anyone searching for a good book that gives you Addam family vibes with a large helping of Dolly Parton sass, here it is.
This has such fun art (that I recognized from my friends sending me online) and great advice. I did like that the advice was phrased in a very fun and spooky way, I think that's a much easier way to be given advice.
I sped through this in one sitting (it is a short book with like three sentences per page).
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
The Glam Reaper’s Guide to Slaying is an absolute MUST. It is everything you’d expect from this comic plus some. Bill Crisafi takes our glamorous Grim and pumps up the positivity in a real way. Grim may be the main character but she is definitely not toxic.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. All thoughts and views are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow for the ARC of this book.
This is going to be a great coffee book to have during Halloween. The glam reaper is fabulous with a touch of spooky which makes her and her band of misfits weird and lovable. The book is all about loving yourself and feeling good and appreciating what you got.
This book somehow spoke to the two wolves inside of me: my obsession with death + my relentless pursuit of the silly. At no point did I see any of what’s in this coming. Fun and funny! Now I have a new comic creator person to keep an eye out for.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This was such a quick and fun read! The Glam Reaper and their friends are alllllll so relatable. 10/10 recommend reading if you're interested in something cute, whimsical (in its own dark way), and quick.
This book is definitely for a niche audience. I usually like weird books and I thought I would love this. It was a bit too corny and odd for me but I’m sure there will be some out there who love it.
Thank you to NetGalley for this free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I laughed so hard reading this I cried. I was able to get an E ARC of this and I know I’m not allowed to take screenshots but the temptation was sooo strong. I’m gonna preorder at least 3 copies so I can gift this to my friends.
it was a cute and fine read. definitely just a self help book wrapped into the spooky aesthetic. if you have the time i would recommend it but it’s not a required read.
