This is one book I'd like to erase from memory and pretend I DNFd when I first wanted to instead of finishing the whole thing like I did. I was intrigued by the idea of a hockey shifter romance, but this sadly had bits and pieces of these things and none of them were right. Like I can't explain how odd the things the author chose to include and then changed about these tropes were. Plus the MMC is an asshole manwh0re (including flirting with and signing OW chests while on a date with the FMC) and the FMC is literally just body betrayal with legs. This woman was supposedly so good at her job but she failed epically every chance she had to show us that. The story ended on an HFN (to me) because even though they were engaged, absolutely nothing in this story led me to believe that they'll last more than a year or two. This was an attempt at an opposites attract storyline that ended up reading like two people who weren't attracted to each other outside of biology are thrown together for long enough that they finally say fuck it, let's do this. And then there's the most low impact shifter storyline going along with it too. And spurts of hockey that may or may not be correct. And don't get me started on the fact that the FMC can say pussy but can only bring herself to say "tushies" or "bottom". Girl just say ass.
Not bad per se, but wow… the MMC is impressively stupid and painfully childish. For a wolf shifter, finding a mate is supposed to be the most sacred, life-altering thing ever. And yet, despite being so tired of one-night stands and puck bunnies, he still refuses to accept the mate bond. Make it make sense.
Instead of depth, fantasy, or actual plot, everything revolves around this man-whore having an existential crisis he could solve in five minutes if he used a single brain cell. There’s no tension, no real romance—just repetitive internal monologues about how he doesn’t want commitment while clearly wanting commitment. Groundbreaking.
When there’s no solid fantasy world or story to lean on, the book defaults to “stupid alpha male behavior” and calls it a day. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to carry an entire novel.
I DNF’d with enthusiasm. Sometimes the bond you really need to accept… is the bond with the DNF button.
This standalone shifter romance has non-stop HEAT. She starts out hating him. They have to pretend to be dating to save his reputation. Lots of adrenaline, a few surprises, and of course, STEAM.

This was my first time reading Piper Stone, and while the "love scenes" were actually quite good, the rest of the book left me with a lot of questions. I wanted to love this hockey/Werewolf romance, but several issues with the writing and plot logic made it a difficult read.
The Issues I Had:
Pacing and Continuity: The story felt disjointed, often jumping between scenes and leaving huge gaps in the timeline. It made it hard to get invested in the world when it felt like I was skimming over the actual development of the story.
Unrealistic Reactions: The FMC discovers a massive family secret that should have been life-altering, yet she takes it entirely in her stride. It felt unnatural and robbed the story of some much-needed emotional depth.
The Paparazzi Subplot: This was my biggest frustration. Paparazzi were trespassing on private property and taking intimate photos inside the house, yet no legal action was taken. For a "Big Bad Alpha" and an FMC who is supposed to be savvy, it made no sense that they didn't involve lawyers or security immediately.
Character Dynamics: The "we hate each other" trope felt forced. Every time they claimed to dislike one another, they ended up in bed. It became repetitive rather than building genuine tension. Also, the MC’s dominance felt a bit premature considering how little he actually knew the FMC at the start. Lack of Detail: I noticed a lack of "after-care" or even basic hygiene in the writing—scenes would end abruptly without the characters even cleaning up, which took me out of the moment!
The Silver Lining😈: If you are looking strictly for steam, the love scenes were well-executed and definitely the highlight of the book. However, if you need a cohesive plot with logical character motivations, this might not be the one for you.
I want to preface this by saying I’ve read one other Piper Stone book, and I genuinely disliked it. After reading this one, I thought maybe I’d judged her too harshly—so I tried another. Nope. Hated it again. That makes this book a clear outlier for me, and honestly, the reason I felt compelled to write a review at all. Because buried under some genuinely bad editorial choices, missing world-building, and underdeveloped lore is a good story. It feels like the author either needed to flesh this out much more or simplify it significantly. As written, the reading experience is a bit chaotic. This is what makes it interesting:
1) It’s a shifter story without the moon-goddess/Luna obsession, which so often tips into cringe. (Not always—but often.) 2) It's not set in some f*cking middle-of-nowhere, backwater forrest deep in some mountains where everyone is clearly inbreeding. (Yes, there might be more than one pack but common, but everyone has to be at least a fifth cousin by now.) 3) The shifters aren’t written as feral, unwashed-biker-gang stereotypes. It's f*cking offensive to actual wolves who are both cunning and societal. (And yes, I’m aware I’m dangerously close to sounding like someone with a howling-wolf tie-dye shirt. I promise I’m not. No offense to those people either, love the shirts.) 4) The fated mates trope is not insta-love. Thank f*cking God.
So instead, we get a story grounded in an actual, recognizable setting, with fairly normal people who happen to shift—and hockey thrown in for good measure. Hallelujah.
That said, the MMC is immature, and the FMC gets a little too fixated on “taming” him at times, which occasionally makes the whole thing read younger than it should. But narratively, he needs to be that way—the plot requires him to be babysat by a PR person. And as for her, she lacks relationship experience and is tasting authority for the first time, so it makes sense that it goes to her head a bit. Messy? Yes. But there’s something genuinely compelling here—and that’s what makes the flaws frustrating instead of fatal.
**PS: The spice is really good. However, the disconnect between his everyday insecurities and his sudden bedroom “beast” behavior is jarring. The switch doesn’t feel earned. I get that this is a Stormy Nights publication, and that probably explains the required spankings and hair-pulling—but those moments felt forced, or at least not executed cleanly enough to match his established character.**
A sexually charged read that will hold your attention between the pages up to the very end Saint “The Savage” Masters had quite the reputation for himself as a ladies’ man the type that seemed to enjoy to date them, love them and leave them as quickly as humanly possible or so it seemed in the newspapers and magazine circles he allowed into his life. Lily had been quite surprised the night she had literally bumped into Saint masters and she had been kissed quite thoroughly by him, then with out so much as a thank you had waltzed off with his group or equally obnoxious friends and left her feeling bemused and thoroughly used, most likely to prove a point to the group he was with at the time. When he approaches her and asks if she would consider playing the part of his girlfriend in an effort to solve a PR problem, she had agreed but never for one moment had she expected to have have her backside spanked red and then his darker secrets started to appear. As things begin to progress between the couple it is understandable that she questions if he is still only playing pretend or if he is simply keeping her body busy so that her mind is kept a little more on the back burners. I guarantee that readers will be captivated by this pair and will be anxious to discover what the outcome will be, has it all bee smoke and mirrors or are they actually falling for each other. Read this story and find out the outcome for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

This book combines two of my favorite tropes; hockey and shifters. And what a delightful combination this one was! The arrogant (shifter) hockey player – on and off the ice – and the girl he kissed one fateful night out of the blue, rocking her world – even if she is reluctant to admit it. A girl that later is called by the team, through her dad’s company, to handle a PR disaster he caused by playing the role of his devoted girlfriend. This is nothing new as a plot path, but add the shifter’s possessiveness, protectiveness, dominance, alpha energy and, well, the bringing-down-on-your-knees by the one girl you wouldn’t suppose to fall for and there you have it! A delightful, action-packed, fast-paced, scorching hot rollercoaster I couldn’t get enough of. I loved both Saint and Lily because despite everything they let their feelings lead their way in the end. I loved their banter and how perfect they really complement each other. Fate really knows what it does in this one, that’s for sure! All in all, an un-put-downable, pleasant read I couldn’t get enough of. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

I'm not even sure how to begin this. The book for the most part overall was enthralling. There were so many things wrong. It felt as if some scenes were rushed and lacking in detail. The story would. jump around with no real context as to the timeline. I also have a completely view on mayonnaise. I'm still hung up on that and the lack of showering. If you expect knotting don't because for some reason the actual mating scene was left out. I have read this authors books before and was taken back by this. It was decent enough for a begining author. However this is an established author. I had previously planned on at least a three star but it just went from bad to worse. I did receive this book as an arc and under no obligation to leave this review. If you do not mind the jumping with no bridge to another topic day etc than go ahead take it for a spin but I cannot recommend anyone to read this. So aggravating because the premise of the book was intriguing and I was looking for toward it. Final note I'm not exactly sure how to word this but I also was disappointed with the portrayal of wolf shifters. So much potential!
I went back and forth between 2 and 3 stars. This was definitely a different take on a hockey book. It’s hockey mixed with shifters. (Possible spoilers ahead)
I thought there was too much inner monologue in the beginning, but I do understand it was to set the scene. It just felt like it dragged a bit to get going.
I liked the plot of shifter living among humans and humans don’t know.
I also laughed when H met h and he immediately figured out she was his mate his POV was all like “shite no! I don’t want a mate” 😂 because he was totally fine with being a playboy.
I liked h and H. The smex scenes were spicy. One thing I didn’t like- if you’re going to have knotting and mate rituals in a book- show it. Don’t just tell us it happened.
The main complaint I have about this book- it’s way too long for what it is. My kindle said it’s a 9 hour read. Ugh Shifter/hockey/romance books, IMO, need to be less than 5 hours.
I’m not familiar with this author but I would definitely read the second book in this series.
You bet your sweet ax I'm gonna read a dark wolf shifter hockey romance written by Piper Stone, I knew I couldn't pass it up. Fated mates and a fake dating trope I was done for.
Holy hot wolf shifter, Saint is the big bad arrogant playboy hockey player. He gets into a sticky situation and he needs help, enter feisty take-no-nonsense, Lily she's gonna fix up his image real good...but wait they are fated mates! Staaaapppp it, I was all over this book. I practically inhaled it. With the entertaining, sizzling spicy plot, and fun characters I was completely hooked. I was living for the banter, smiling like a loon.

I know Piper Stone is always going to be a winning satisfying read that has the spice spicing, the alpha MMC always incredibly sexy and dedicated to his woman, the FMC is amazing and relatable, and 100% entertaining/exciting with a fantastic HEA.
I have always love Piper Stone stories and I always want more when I finish. Lily is hired to make the bad boy hockey player look good, but she doesn't care for him and maybe her ex has something to do it,Damian was a dirt bag,two timer and only though of his self.So when Saint came along, she wasn't looking to be fake girlfriend material. She gives Saint a set of rules to help clean him up in the public's view but he only takes her half seriously, when they first met he was the guy that kissed her in a bar so he was already batting zero. They try to not tick each other off but sometimes it works and then he does something and then he is in the hot seat with the coaches but Saint is notices something when he is around her but of course he does something to anger her. This story does have a very nice ending for Saint and Lily where they find happiness without his big foot in his mouth and she even gets even with her ex!Her Wolfman and his Lily Flower!
I was delighted by this story . The MFC Lily was hired to have a fake relationship with the MMC Saint. Her job was to wrangle in this playboy, bad boy after a fight gone wrong. Saint is funny, arrogant, and sees nothing wrong with his behavior. Lily is a librarian/author who is serious minded and knows her stuff when it comes to changing someone’s image. Saint was just charismatic and funny. He often said or did things to get a rise out of Lily. The chemistry between the two of them was off the chart. The steamy scenes were well writing and the “ discipline” scenes were more playful the what we see in other books. I highly recommend this book. There was a good plot, and enjoyable read.

What a story, I loved it. Saint "Savage" Masters, known playboy and NFL hockey player, finds himself at the centre of some trouble. In comes Lily Weathers, librarian/author who has just lost her job and agrees to take on the role of PR for Saint. Determined to keep him in line, Lily struggles to hide the attraction and lust she feels for Saint. When a fake proposal is made in public, it all starts to spiral out of Lily's control, especially when she discovers that Saint has a pretty big secret. Witty and steamy, there were moments in this book that had me crying with laughter, especially when Lily met Saint's mother, Charlotte. This grabbed my attention all the way through and I had to read it in one sitting. Definitely a ten star read for me.
Fake relationship ✔️ Bad boy ✔️ Hockey ✔️ What’s not to love about this story. Saint ‘The Savage’ Masters has it all. -He’s the star of his team, The Chicago Wild Dogs -Adored by all -He has any woman he wants Until his reputation after a night out on the town brings it all to a halt. In comes Lily the feisty ex librarian and now the woman that will save his reputation, as long as he will do as he is told. This story has lots of angst and their interactions were electric, both feeding of each other beautifully. A spicy story with a great storyline that kept me captivated throughout. I loved both characters, his cockiness and her stubbornness. Really enjoyable read.

Saint ‘The Savage’ Masters plays for NHL and has racked up quite the reputation on and off the ice. When a situation occurs that could derail everything he's worked for his father hires a Public Relation firm to clean up his image. Lily Weathers librarian/budding author recently lost her job agrees to take on the PR for bad boy Saint to clean up his reputation. It all begins to unravel when her dislike for him turns into an undeniable attraction and a fake relationship. ★”being called The Savage wasn’t too far off from the truth.”★
I am not sure how to rate this story, from an author I am very familiar with reading. I went back and forth between disliking to lukewarm with his character. Their interactions had felt a tad forced, and some of the events that occurred had no followup? I did read the whole story, but the “voice” of the storytelling did not seem as thorough or familiar as the previous stories I’ve read. This will not prevent me from reading this author, though, it seems to be just this story - I’ve thoroughly enjoyed her other dark mafia and shifter stories, etc.
This is probably the 2nd Piper Stone book I’ve read. I like to give people a second take/chance. Her style of writing just isn’t for me. While it has dual POVs everything felt more like a diary entry. It made me think of the really early fanfics I’ve read when I was younger. Both MCs feel really one dimensional and I had a hard time finishing in general. While some of the spice was really fun, it wasn’t enough for me to actually enjoy the book.
He oozes sex appeal, he’s arrogant, overconfident and known as a playboy but Saint was about to meet his match in Lily.
I loved everything about this story! Such a sexy, sizzling read as these two characters can’t keep their hands of each other and both are pretending it’s a publicity stunt for a short while.
Their chemistry is electric and the secondary characters give added depth.
A super steamy romantic read with a few surprises.

This book is excellent. I love Lily and Saint and boy… their chemistry is red hot and off the charts! I was holding my breath when reading each scene to see what happens next! The story is great and holds just the right amount of tension and expectation. It also has amazing banter which makes me laugh. That spice level, it wasn’t over the top, it was sensual and made me wish for a Saint! It also introduces some great secondary characters that I wish could have their own story. Please, as I would read the next book in a heartbeat.
This was an entertaining story, though I can honestly say that I prefer the bonus bitter stories. Saint was your typical alpha male, who just happened to be a Wolf Shifter. Lily was a Librarian down on her luck, with a best friend named Vicky. There was Damien who was nothing but a pain in everybody's backside. And then there was Saint's brother, Steven.

Wow, this is a terrific story… Saint Masters, The Savage NHL bad boy needed a better image and Lily was hired to help with that. The spark was always there, even though they tried to convince themselves that it was fake, a convincing convenience meant to save both of their careers. Their very real romance was inevitable… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
I liked this overall but felt it was a little disjointed compared to some of piper's other books. There were bits of the ending that I would have liked more fully explained - they just sort of frittered away. overall thouhg, super steamy and well written.

This was a very good book, and I enjoyed reading it. I really liked the whole shifter/hockey player angle. That to me felt very fresh. The skillful blend of intensity, drama, kink, steam and emotion read smoothly, maintained my interest and kept me entertained. I thought Lily and Saint made and great couple. Electric chemistry, sweltering heat and witty banter completes the package.
Saint is in need of a PR boost when Lilynis called in to help. Fate brings them into a fake relationship that soon turns hot and steamy. With an added shifter vibe, this story was suspenseful as well as emotional. I could not get enough of this exciting read.

Arrogant/over confident and a total playboy. Thats our boy Saint. Trying to keep him line is Lily. This had me howling with laughter one minute, then wanting to punch Saint the next. Fake fiancée Grumpy/sunshine Hockey 🏒 I loved it. Throw in a few twists and I never wanted they’re story to end
Too Long, Weird Emotional Arcs, and Off-putting MMC
So this went on and on and on. The MMC is a jerk, consistently. The spice was subpar and it felt like it came out of nowhere while they were fighting and not in a fun tension kind of way. I just felt like the plot didn’t hold up and the whole premise was too contrived.
I really enjoyed the story though. There were a lot of ups and downs, even for an enemies to lovers story. I had a hard time finding anything redeeming about the MMC for a while, but if you stick with the book he grows on you.
Ice and Fire Saint rules the ice but his temper rules him. Until Lily is hired to save his reputation. But when they’re together, the electricity sizzles between them. So much so that they could light up a major metropolis! And enjoy every single moment!
The story idea was nice, but it’s definitely in need of editing. It was rather anticlimactic at the end and that was disappointing. I would however read another book by this author. The author definitely had a talent for writing spicy scenes!
