Sometimes you just need a road trip...

I didn’t mean to stare at Adam Woodbury. And I definitely didn’t mean to assume he was homeless. But when you see a man in a small-town café eating like he hasn’t had a real meal in days, then sharing the last bite with his big golden retriever, it’s hard not to wonder.

With his sun-streaked hair brushing his shoulders, scruffy face, flannel shirt torn at the elbows, faded jeans, and dusty boots, he looks like he stepped right out of one of those vagabond movies. The kind where the leading man carries secrets in his silence.

Turns out, Adam isn’t lost. He’s searching—traveling the back roads of Georgia in a camper van, capturing the world through his camera lens while trying to outrun the ghosts of his past.

I should’ve kept my distance. But somehow, this wandering soul with a love for the simple things in life has pulled me out of my comfort zone of real estate contracts and high heels, and into his world of open skies, campfires, and quiet mornings.

And the more I learn about the pain he’s running from, the more I realize my heart aches with hope too. Because somewhere between the winding highways and the unexpected moments of shared joy, I’ve started to wonder if this road we ended up on together is leading us home.

Highway to Happy is a tender, deeply emotional journey about love, loss, and rediscovering yourself when life takes an unexpected turn.

“The Singing Author,” Kelly Genelle Fletcher, lives in her very own frat house in Atlanta, GA with her husband Ladd and three sons. She writes her heartwarming/closed-door romance books under her name, Kelly Fletcher, and her steamier books under her pen name, KG Fletcher.

As a singer/songwriter she became a recipient of the “Airplay International Award” for “Best New Artist” showcasing original songs at The Bluebird Café in Nashville, TN. She earned her BFA in theater at Valdosta State University, and has traveled the world professionally as a singer/actress. She is a two-time Georgia Maggie Award Nominee, and currently gets to play rock star as a backup singer in the National Tour, “Remember When Rock Was Young – the Elton John Experience.”

Kelly is a hopeless romantic. When she’s not on the road singing, she’s probably at home daydreaming about her swoony book boyfriends, or arranging a yummy charcuterie board while sipping red wine and listening to Frank Sinatra. She's also a conference speaker and loves to interact with readers on social media and share about her writing and singing journey. I’m still wiping away the tears as I write this. Highway to Happy isn’t just a romance; it’s a raw, deeply emotional experience that caught me completely off guard.

The story starts with such a poignant, human moment—a man who looks like he’s lost everything, sharing his last bite of food with his dog. I’ll admit, like the heroine, I made assumptions about Adam Woodbury. I saw the scruffy face, the torn flannel, and the dusty boots and thought I knew his story. I was so wrong.

Adam is a "wandering soul" who carries the kind of silence that speaks volumes. Watching him pull the protagonist out of her world of high heels and real estate contracts and into a life of campfires and open skies was pure magic.

Kari is your down to earth & beautiful soul and face of the town! She’s just longing to be seen and feel loved! Adam brings all this to the table for her!

Why this book earned 5 stars:

The Emotional Depth: This isn't a surface-level read. It explores the ghosts we try to outrun and the pain that lingers long after we’ve left home.

The "Rawness": There were moments so tender and vulnerable that I found myself staring at the pages, heart aching with a mix of sorrow and hope.

The Atmosphere: You can practically smell the Georgia air and feel the warmth of the morning sun. The camper van setting adds a sense of freedom and intimacy that is hard to find.

Between the winding highways and the shared quiet moments, I realized this book is a beautiful reminder that sometimes you have to get lost to truly be found. If you’re looking for a story about love, loss, and rediscovering yourself, please pick this up. Just make sure you have a box of tissues nearby.

: I love this author and there’s a good reason. She puts you right in the world with the characters, and makes them real. They have flaws. They have issues. They make mistakes. In this one, Keri lives in a small Georgia town trying to make a living at a dying real estate business that once belonged to her father. A former beauty queen, she had dreams once upon a time, but life stepped in with the deaths of her father and her beloved grandmother. Now, she’s just trying to do right by them. Then, while eating at the local cafe, she sees a man upside, with his dog. He’s scruffy, wearing torn clothes and driving a beat-up camper van. But he’s also incredibly handsome and something inside her clicks. Adam, a former high-end photographer, is trying to escape his past and the devastating memories that live there. When he meets Keri, a part of him that he thought was closed forever cracks open.

As the two of them get to know each other, they face their pasts. It’s not always easy or pretty, but their bond tightens and they both realize that maybe they can begin to live again – with each other. But as everyone who reads romances knows, the road to a HEA is often filled with potholes and detours and this story is no exception.

This story is full of emotional highs and lows and they feel real. It is written in first person from both Keri and Adam’s point of view, but the author is careful to title each chapter with who you’re with in that chapter. And a HEA that satisfies.

Definitely recommended.

Oh my goodness!! I really loved reading this book. It was amazing and raw and full of emotions. It really tugged at my heart. I loved both Adam and Keri's characters. Adam was a lost soul of sorts. He was trying to find himself and happiness again after such a loss. Keri was bored and wanted adventure. She was also lost. She wanted to follow her dreams. Both characters needed each other. I also loved Molly. She was a great support for both Adam and Keri. I received an ARC of this story and I am voluntarily choosing to leave this review. I loved it and would highly recommend reading this and the series.

Wow! I'm so overwhelmed with emotion!
Highway to Happy is such a beautiful, emotional, romantic story! I love Keri and Adam's story! Their meet-cute is funny but sweet! They're both trying to heal after heartbreaking loss and trying to rediscover themselves. I love that they were able to find each other and help each other heal. This story is so beautifully written and easy to read! I love how beautifully detailed the scenes are throughout this story. I can picture every scene and feel every emotion. This story is a wonderful, five star read! I'm obsessed with this whole series!
Highly recommend!

This is a sweet story with likable characters, but for me was just too predictable to earn anything more than three stars. While it is a nice romance, I found it a bit slow and lacking that extra special something that makes a book hard to put down. Although part of a series, this can be read as a standalone and there is no cliffhanger.

I was given a complimentary ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
