The Greatest Record Never Heard is more than a rock n roll story. It’s the story of a family trying desperately to rise out of the ashes of its burning history. Set in a small blue collar biker Ohio town, the story revolves around Eli and Rick Banks, gifted musicians, but toxic brothers. Their bar room brawls are famous in the nightclubs and concert halls in the surrounding counties and they soon find their musical talents are outweighed by their tempers and distrust for each other.
When Eli sent Rick flying down the top of the conference room table in the middle of Capital Records over a publishing dispute, it was safe to say, The Banks Brothers had just broken up. Permanently! Eli raced out of the record offices with the 50 lb. black leather bag containing the 6 recording masters of their record ‘Bad Dream’. That is when Eli lit the match that started a chain reaction of events leading to an explosion between the Banks brothers and their families. After the ‘Bad Dream’ reels were burned to ashes, the demise was evident and the boys parted ways.
Now, twenty years later, Eli and Rick have managed to live in the same town without seeing each other, until tonight. The occasion is a Peace Tree concert featuring their very young and talented sons Taylor, a drummer, and Chris, an incredible singer. Eli is sickened by the thought of Taylor following Rick down the same dark roads that he did. The Peace Tree concert is a turning point for Eli who has not been much of a father to Taylor.
Eli knows the best thing for their sons’ career would be if one day he and Rick could work together again, as they were once great team mates. Eli’s attempt to get involved with Taylor has lead to a growing relationship with his nephew, Chris Banks. Eli realizes working with Rick’s son would be crossing a line, but Eli is changing both spiritually and physically.
The Greatest Record Never Heard is a story of forgiveness and finding the courage to resolve a life times’ worth of regrets; showing ‘salvation’ has no statute of limitations.
What a great read and as a musician (and fellow singer songwriter) I can relate to everything in this story. While it may be a work of fiction it is based in reality and the ups and downs of working in the music industry, dealing with fellow musicians, the ones you love, the scumbags that want to weasel their way in, but most importantly the inner personal struggles and joys of living the life of a artist/ musician. If you want to get a glimpse of the trials and tribulations of a singer- songwriter, performer/ artist this is a good place to start. If you want to be entertained with a story of rock and roll it is a wonderful place to begin because in the end it’s not about the “what ifs” but about the “what is”. It’s in your blood and blood is thicker than water. It is a great story and an even better sound track. BAd Dream is the soundtrack - Download it, listen to it (really listen to it!) and love it!
