Waylon Ludlow was my first heartbreak—the boy I secretly loved from the sidelines while he ruled Wildhaven High and then disappeared without a word. Now he’s back, all smirks and whiskey-soaked charm, and with a baby no one knew about.
But I’m not the same quiet girl I once was. I’m fire now. Feral, stubborn, and one smart-ass comment away from punching him square in the jaw.
I live loud, love hard, and fight for what matters. And even though Waylon is a mess of mistakes wrapped in faded denim, my heart still skips like it’s seventeen every time he looks at me. And his little girl, well, she’s got me wrapped around her tiny finger.
We clash. We burn. We break things. But the more I push him away, the more I wonder—am I chasing the storm, or is it chasing me? What to

I love the strong females in this series! This book follows another Storm sister: Shelby Our fiercely independent and strong horse trainer Cowgirl through and through. 🤠
Waylon. Phew you want to hate him at points but you just don’t, cause you can tell he’s trying so hard. Neighboring ranches son. A return home. Little second chance vibes. Single dad. And his little girls story will tug at your heartstrings. 💕
These books are always a warm hug. They’re packed with plot. Not overly spicy. Characters you love and want to hang out with. Amazing family vibes.
Have to admit that I'm obsessed with the Wildhaven Ranch series and the Storm sisters. And I loved, loved, loved Shelby and Waylon's story. Shelby was a storm of a woman with a heart of gold and a steel spine . And she still has a crush on Waylon Ludlow after all those years. Waylon Ludlow was the infamous bad boy prodigal son turned single dad overnight. Now he has to clean his act and fix his life so he can take proper care of his daughter. And single dad Waylon was so swoony. Add to the mix Ruby girl, Waylon's daughter and you have the recipe for the perfect small town second chance romance. And I loved it when Waylon finally confronted his father about their bitter past and they both got the forgiveness they needed. And the Ludlow men got their chance to fix their past mistakes by being the best father and grandfather to Ruby. After a few messes Waylon managed to repair his relationship with Shelby and they both got their second chance. Those two were pure fire together with that crazy chemistry between them . And that nickname . Stormy . Obsessed with it . Loved all the sneak peaks on the other couples. Now I can't wait to read Harleigh's story. And now , I have no idea who's the guy that will be brought to his knees by the last Storm sister.
Thanks to the author and WordSmith Publicity for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.
Waylon Ludlow was a breath of fresh air in the world of male main characters! He was vulnerable, hurt, lost, confused, trying his best to turn his life around for Ruby and I loved it. It was a nice change for a mmc to be dealing with so much instead of the fmc. Now, don’t get me wrong, Shelby was fighting her own battles but the star of this story was definitely Waylon. ❤️ (and sweet, little Ruby of course!) Shelby and Waylon had a pull that was undeniable, palpable and fiery! I was sad for their story to end- I wanted more. ❤️ I can’t wait to hopefully see more of them in the next book!
These daughters of the Storms, are amazing, strong willed and loyal to the core. Shelby is working their ranch, staying back from barrel racing, training others, but is she retiring for good? As the expansion continues to their ranch goes, her heart is expanding and finding new love. A neighbor who has been gone has found his way home and trying to find his way back and figure out where he fits in. Beautiful family and friends are what this story is all about.
This is my favourite series in this genre. I love a single Dad, cowboy romance This is Waylon and Shelby's story and what a romance. He's the man who is trying to figure out how to be the best father. She's the strong, fearsome Wildhaven sister, my favourite of them all. Kelly always writes amazing, #swoonworthy books with fantastic characters and side characters. I'm so excited for Harleigh's story but also sad it might be the last one. Unless... we get Ruby's story Kerry Kennedy Author
Amazing! The Storm women did it again, and this time it was Shelby’s turn to make us fall in love with her.
Despite her young age, she left her barrel racing career behind to help her family with the ranch. Shelby is selfless, hardworking, stubborn, strong, and loves fiercely. And just as fiercely as she loves, she despises Waylon because of what he did when they were younger. Yes, he was her first heartbreak, and Shelby has carried that pain with her ever since.
Waylon… what can I even say about him? I tried to dislike him, but my efforts were completely ruined the moment he and Ruby entered the picture. When a little girl is suddenly left in his care, Waylon does everything in his power to give her the life she deserves, even before knowing for sure she is his. Watching him step up and try to right his past wrongs melted my heart. And once he finally understands the reason behind Shelby’s resentment, he knows exactly how to ask for forgiveness.
And Ruby? I absolutely adored her. I cried over everything she had to endure with her mom. She is so small, yet incredibly brave, and she truly reminded me of the Storm girls. She completely stole every scene she was in.
The plot is beautifully developed. Even though it is a shorter book, it never feels rushed. The push and pull between Shelby and Waylon feels real. Waylon juggles new fatherhood with his growing feelings for Shelby, and Shelby fights to hold her ground and not give in too easily to his charm. Their chemistry is pure fire, with banter, tension, perfectly balanced spice, and so much heart.
This story is about forgiveness, learning how to make things right, and not judging situations for what they seem. But most of all, it is about chasing the storm that is meant to change your life.
If you have not read this series yet, you are seriously missing out. Amber has a beautiful way with words. Do not just add this book to your TBR, read it!
Thank you so much to Amber and Wordsmith Publicity for this beautiful ARC!
Chasing The Storm is book 3 in the Wildhaven Series and of course another 5 star read. I swear, I am so dreading the day the final book is released. I never want this series to end.
Shelby and Waylon’s story started when they were kids. She had a massive crush on him and he was just trying to survive his own grief and keep everyone at a distance. They were always in each other’s orbit, with their parents being friends and all but then, Waylon leaves town.
I loved Shelby. She’s fierce, determined and over her heart being broken by Waylon time and time again. She has her walls up when it comes to him but when he smiles her way and that dimple using display she slowly caves.
Waylon is back with a little girl in tow. He’s here to give her everything she deserves, a stable life filled with love and all the horses a little girl could want.
I really enjoyed reading Waylon’s journey as a single dad and learning to come to terms with his own grief and misplaced anger. I think him coming home and becoming a father healed him in ways he didn’t expect.
Ruby is such a treasure. She’s definitely a daddy’s girl and although she may be shy, she loves everything and everyone. She’s definitely spoiled by all the characters.
Shelby learning the truth about why Waylon acted the way he did after their last moment together, I think helped her open up to him and giving him a second chance. With the help of her meddling sisters as well, of course.
Waylon and Shelby have so much chemistry, it’s intoxicating. The banter, vulnerability and angst is everything. I was completely addicted from the first page and found it extremely hard to put it down.
This book has it all, the family and community vibe, a hilarious hose scene, spice and healing. It’s definitely a must read if you’re after small town, cowboy romance.
Once again, Amber Kelly has delivered. She always knows exactly what her readers want and this book has it all.
This is second-chance romance with teeth, with whiskey on its breath and dust on its boots, and I devoured every page.
Waylon Ludlow is the kind of first heartbreak that never really leaves. The golden boy who vanished without explanation and came back carrying more weight than anyone expected, including a baby who instantly steals your soul. He is messy, worn around the edges, drowning in regret, and still somehow devastatingly charming. Faded denim and bad decisions never looked so good.
And Shelby? I adored her. She is not the quiet girl waiting in the wings anymore. She is feral, fire-hot, stubborn, loud, and sharp-tongued, and I loved watching her stand her ground. Every interaction between her and Waylon crackles. The banter bites. The tension burns. The history between them aches in that way only first love can, where every look drags seventeen-year-old feelings right back to the surface.
Their push and pull felt so real. Two people circling old wounds, trying not to bleed on each other, failing spectacularly. The way Shelby fights her heart while Waylon quietly falls harder, trying to be better not just for her but for his little girl, had me in my feelings more than once. And that baby? Absolutely unfair. Tiny scene-stealer with a grip on both Shelby and my heart.
This story is about growth, forgiveness, and loving someone in the middle of their storm instead of waiting for the sky to clear. It is raw and emotional without being overdone, tender without losing its grit.
By the end, I was smiling, aching, and completely in love with Waylon and Shelby’s journey. If you love second-chance romance, small-town vibes, emotionally messy men trying to do better, and strong women who refuse to dim their fire, read this. Chasing the Storm hit me straight in the chest and I would happily relive it all over again. 🌪️❤️
Shelby Storm fell head over heals for Waylon Ludlow at the ripe ol' age of seventeen and instantly had dreams of them spending forever together. But that little dream was burst when he left town and never looked back... and broke her young tender heart in the process. But these days she's a different woman, wiser, tougher, would never fall the likes of him if she saw him again. Or would she?
The pages of Chasing the Storm hold the story of young love gone wrong and a reunion that is about to set the town on fire. Shelby Storm lost a piece of her heart the day Waylon Ludlow left town and she has never forgiven him the things he said and did back then. To her, he is the enemy and if he were to ever wander back into town there is no way they would find themselves on speaking terms, let alone be in the same room with one another. She is done with the likes of him! Or is she?
It's easier to carry hate for someone when they are not around everyday, nor even in town, but when he sets foot back into town and starts coming around Shelby quickly finds her resolve slipping and that hate? Well, it starts to dissipate too, especially when she sets sights on his little girl.
Oh how I loved watching this reunion unfold, it had all the best parts of an enemies to lovers story that I love, the tension, the constant tension, the heated stolen glances, and of course the fireworks when they finally admitted defeat!! It was such a perfect escape, from beginning to end it held my attention, had me in my feels ... and left me with an unshakable smile on my face! Highly recommend you take a chance on this series, the words will touch your heart and keep you enthralled the whole way through!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
This series just keeps getting better with each book. Chasing the Storm is book 3 in the Wildhaven Ranch series and features Shelby & Waylon. Shelby is our strong, sassy, fiercely independent, barrel racing, horse training, Storm sister. Waylon is the wayward son of Holland & Priscilla Ludlow who has returned home to Ironhorse after being gone for years.
Waylon and Shelby have history that Shelby's stubborn heart just can't forget, no matter how much she tries. He is the kind of first heartache you never get over. So when he comes back to town, Shelby puts her walls up and throws the full weight of that Storm sass his way to keep her heart safe.
No matter how much I wanted to hate Waylon for what he did to Shelby, the minute he walked up the door of his parents house and Ruby nervously straightens her sweater and skirt wondering if they were going to like her, I was done for. That man carried a weight no one even realized and he was doing everything he could to do right by that little girl. How can you stay mad at that? When we got the backstory of why Waylon left and then the moment with his dad in the office, it not only brought the picture full circle but it softened me a little toward Holland as well.
Ruby is the real star of the show. That little girl has been through so much in her short time and she is just a literal ray of sunshine. You can't help but fall in love with her. I love how everyone embraced her and how she was a true cowgirl int he making. Like she was always meant to come home to Ironhorse.
Each book in the series keeps getting better. The stories are well written, not rushed and the storyline develops perfectly with imperfect flawed characters. I am so excited to get my hands on Harleigh's book next!
Chasing the Storm is the 3rd book in The Wildhaven Ranch Series and can be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed Chasing the Storm! From the first page I hook and couldn’t put it down till I finished it. The main characters of the story are Shelby and Waylon and I found both characters to be likable and relatable. Shelby fierce, selfless, hardworking, heart of goal women. She had taken a step away from barley racing and is training other and working on the farm. Then there is Waylon is confused, hurt, hardworking and being the best dad to his little girl. Shelby and Waylon have history that left her heartbroken so when Waylon returns Shelby will do everything, she can make sure she doesn’t fall for Waylon. While Waylon will do everything do what he can to correct the past.
The chemistry between Shelby and Waylon is from the moment they come back into each other lives. The banter between was good and at times was funny between them. When it come to the writing and pace of the story, both were good. The story flowed smoothly page to a page and the story didn’t feel rushed or slowed. Another thing that was good about this story was the secondary characters (Shelby and Waylon’s friends &family). They added to the story but didn’t overshadow or take the focus way Shelby and Waylon. This story does have some spice, but it does not heavy on the spicy. The spice scenes were writing well and not over the top or cheesy.
Overall, Chasing the Storm is good read. The main characters are good. The writing and pace were good. It’s the type of the story that once you start you won’t be able to put it down till the end.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I'm obsessed with the Wildhaven Ranch series, and Waylon and Shelby's love story no exception! Their slow-burn romance was WORTH THE WAIT!! Waylon's return to the family ranch with his daughter Ruby was a fun surprise that added lots of depth to the story, and his growth as he took on the new role as dad was everything.
The tension between Waylon and Shelby was palpable, and their push-pull dynamic had me hooked. Shelby tried to resist Waylon's charm and her previous childhood crush on him, but let's be real, he's swoon-worthy. The way he worked tirelessly to win her trust, despite everything going wrong, was proof of his devotion.
I loved getting little snit-bits of the other Storm sisters and their men! I also found Ruby's love for horses and barrel racing the best, since Shelby got to teach her the ropes. The bitterness between Ludlow the Ludlow men was finally explained, and I loved seeing them finally make some amends.
What stood out: Waylon's vulnerability, Ruby's cuteness, and Shelby's strength. The small-town ranch vibes are perfection, and this single dad's journey is a must-read. If you love a slow-burn romance with emotional depth, grab this book!
Chasing the Storm is the third installment in The Wildhaven Ranch Series by Amber Kelly. The narrative address’s themes of forgiveness, rectifying mistakes, and approaching situations without preconceived judgments.
Though young, Shelby Storm gave up barrel racing to support her family on the ranch. She is determined, hardworking, and deeply loyal, but harbors resentment toward Waylon after he broke her heart years ago.
Waylon Ludlow quickly won me over, especially when he took responsibility for Ruby after she entered his life. He strives to make up for past mistakes and, upon learning why Shelby resents him, seeks her forgiveness.
I loved Ruby—her courage despite her struggles with her mom moved me to tears. Though small, she was remarkably brave and reminded me of the Storm girls, stealing every scene she appeared in.
The dynamic between Shelby and Waylon is portrayed authentically. Waylon manages the responsibilities of new fatherhood alongside his evolving feelings for Shelby, while Shelby maintains her independence and resists yielding to his appeal. Their interactions are marked by engaging dialogue, palpable tension, well-balanced romantic elements, and genuine emotional depth.

What to expect: 🌼Small Town 🌼Western Ranch 🌼Single Dad 🌼Enemies to Lovers 🌼Former Crush 🌼Barrel Racing trainer
Chasing the Storm is a beautifully written and captivating love story filled with angst, family, friends and heartbreak. Ms. Kelly writes with such emotion that you are so enthralled with the storyline and the characters, you feel every heartbreak, hope and dream. Right from the beginning, I knew I wouldn't be able to put this book down. Waylon and Shelby have a history; however, it is one that he doesn't remember. Now he is back home but not alone. He has a sweet four-year-old daughter, Ruby, who steals every scene she is in. Neither Shelby nor Waylon's pasts are filled with roses and happy times. He seems to be carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and she is living with the heartache of the past and the pressure of helping with her family's ranch. Shelby is a strong and independent woman who knows what she wants and deep down, she still wants Wa.ylon, but there is a trust issue. When the truth comes out as to why every Storm female dislikes Waylon, he makes it his job to make things right with Shelby and, at the same time, be a father to Ruby. Can he show Shelby that he is a changed man and she can trust him with her heart? Their story deals with loss, healing, forgiveness, family and love. Ms. Kelly will pull you in and have you wanting to move, or at least visit Wildhaven Ranch.
*4 stars* It was a crazy wild adventure while reading this book but I truly enjoyed Waylon & Shelby's story. It was full of history but as their relationship was complex, they had chemistry and a spark that was undeniable. I shed a few tears when learning of their pasts; a rollercoaster of emotions went through me but I enjoyed the journey. Excited to see what comes next.
As Waylon returns home, a lot has happened that has changed his life now forever but it will take one day at a time while trying to figure out his next step. He'll do whatever he can to make sure his daughter has everything she needs. As he's trying to adjust to his new world, he runs into Shelby but it seems she does whatever she can to get away from him. Shelby never thought she'd see Waylon again but now he's back into town. She doesn't really know what to do but she hopes to stay out of his way but as he's searching for someone to teach his little girl to have barrel lessons, it seems she won't get much of a chance. As time goes on, she sees that he might have changed his ways but there's still a lot of hurt. Slowly their relationship continues to restore and they grow closer but will everything be okay in the end...
I loved being back at Wildhaven Ranch with the Storm family.
This time we’re with Shelby Storm, the ranch’s horse trainer, and I adored her. She’s strong, stubborn, independent and so used to handling everything herself… so of course Waylon turning back up in her life is the last thing she would ever want.
Waylon comes back to Iron Ranch carrying so much guilt, lots of old wounds, and the sweetest little girl, Ruby. Waylon is trying so hard to be a good dad, get his life back on track and not let his past with his father overwhelm him. He definitely isn’t perfect, but his growth felt so genuine.
Shelby does not let him off easy either - he deserved everything and more her and her sisters put him through. The Storm girls are fiercely loyal and protective and I couldn’t love them more.
Waylon becoming a single dad was the absolute making of him and Ruby is just adorable. She has the biggest heart, super cute and my heart broke for her. Their relationship was easily one of my favourite parts of the book.
Amber books are always a comfort read for me. I already can’t wait to see what’s next at Wildhaven Ranch.
Thank you to the author and team for the ARC. It is always appreciated💕
He Came In Like A Hurricane! Chasing the Storm is the third book in the WildHaven Ranch series by Amber Kelly. It's a super sweet slow burn with a single Dad, ranch life in a small-town, enemies to lovers with a HFN ending.
TW: Death of a sibling (off page), alcohol, drugs, death of a parent (off page).
I would like to Thank WordSmith Publicity and Amber Kelly for my ARC and in return I voluntarily promised an honest review.
Shelby Storm had a crush on Waylon Ludlow in high school and at his high school graduation she gave him her V card, then he said sorry and left town and she never heard from him again.
Waylon returns home after 8 years with a 4 year old little girl looking to make a better life for the both of them.
He doesn't know why the Storm sisters doesn't like him but he wants Shelby to train his little girl for PeeWee Barrel racing. He always found her attractive but even more so now.
Both are out at the same event and she goes home with him but screws up royally when he gets devastating news.
Shelby tries to move on but Waylon is determined to Chase one Storm down to the finish line.
Chasing the Storm is single dad Waylon Ludlow and Shelby Storm’s heartwarming and engaging story. It’s book three in the Wildhaven Ranch Series and I loved everything about this one from watching Waylon with his daughter to the fiercely strong Storm siblings. Waylon never expected to step foot on his families ranch again but after finding out he is a dad he knew the best place for them was with his family so he returned home with his four year old little girl. Shelby is not the quiet sister anymore she is now the strong and stubborn sibling and when Waylon asks her to train his daughter her first reaction is to refuse. Problem is she knows she shouldn’t be punishing a little girl for her father’s mistakes…… This couple have a different opinion of what happened all those years ago so as they spend time together can they forget the past or will it haunt them forever. This is a well written, entertaining and emotional read that drew me in and didn’t let me go until I had finished the final page. I fell hard and fast for Waylon and I want Shelby as my new bestie but in the end it was a little girl named Ruby who stole my heart.
This story follows Shelby and Waylon. Both have known each other since they were kids and their families have ranches next to another. Now Waylon is back at his family’s ranch after eight years. And he doesn’t arrive alone. With him is his four year old daughter from who he knows about just for a little while. Shelby is still angry and hurt about Waylon’s behavior before he left their hometown. But Waylon doesn’t remember anything and has had a secret while he was and behaved the way he did back then and when he was away. Shelby gets to know the man he is today and the father he tries to be and slowly she falls again for him, but Waylon messes up again. One big misunderstanding and secret sits between them and has to be cleaned up. A truly slow burn romance and a man who should have groveled a lot more despite his reasons. And a girl who should have made him work harder for her forgiveness. But a deserved happy end.
This is a second chance at love romance with lots of angst, regrets and passion. It is centred around letting go of the past, forgiveness and redemption. Shelby is a strong-willed, fiercely independent firecracker with a big heart that loves hard. Waylon broke her heart years ago and that heartbreak has never waned, though she claims she hates him.
Waylon is the guy you want to hate for Shelby’s sake, but find you just can’t. Yes, he broke Shelby’s heart, but he is not the same man he was years ago. Now he has an adorable four year old daughter, Ruby, who has a stranglehold on his heart. (This little girl melted my heart and made me smile and cry at the same time.) Waylon will do anything to be the father little Ruby deserves. He faces Shelby’s stubbornness, sass and ire, puts his head down and works hard to win her trust and does his best to give Ruby the love and stability she needs. Gradually, Shelby sees the man Waylon is now and admits to herself that she has never stopped loving him. Love the second time around proves to be sweeter.
I absolutely love picking up a Amber Kelly book and getting swept away in small town life. Chasing the Storm was no different. You feel all the emotion that Amber writes as you walk alongside these characters.
Waylon has been a mystery and we finally get his story as he comes back to town with a surprise in tow. He is such a sexy single dad. He may think he doesn’t have it right but he is doing a fine job of it.
Shelby dislike Waylon and for good reason. She’s a spitfire with a stubborn streak. But once she gets to know the real Waylon there is no chance of not falling for him. These two have chemistry in droves and they can’t fight it even when Shelby tries multiple times. I just loved Waylon and Shelby together and all their meddling relatives.
We also got another side of Holland Ludlow. On first sight I wanted to despise him. He seemed like an arrogant entitled man. But when we got Waylon’s full deep rooted story we also got Holland’s and I have to say he’s not on my shit list anymore.
Amber writes stories that make me fall in love with sexy cowboys and sassy cowgirls. I can’t wait to get more stories from Wildhaven.
What to expect: Small town Ranch setting Single dad Enemies to lovers Former crush Barrel racing trainer
I loved going back to Wildhaven Ranch!! I have loved everything about this series. My Wyoming heart loves being able to go home every once in a while, and what better way to do that than to devour a series about cowgirls, sign me up! I love the Storm family and their strong family dynamic.
Enemies to lovers is a favorite trope of mine and Shelby and Waylon’s relationship hit the mark! I was hooked from the very beginning. A single dad returning home looking for stable ground for his daughter, a strong-willed woman determined to keep residual feelings tempered, and of course scorching chemistry. Shelby and Waylon’s chemistry was off the charts. From the banter to the tender heart melting moments, I was glued to their interactions. Their love story was everything I wanted. My favorite quote was “I may not remember our first kiss, but I’m damn sure gonna remember our next one.” Gah melt
This series has been so fun to read. Each book has been a comfort read through and through. I can’t wait for the next book.
I’ve been hoping for a Waylon story since book one, and it was absolutely worth the wait. I loved everything about him—flaws and all—and how he fully embraced who he was. I completely fell in love with his daughter, Ruby; she was the most precious little girl, and their relationship was so heartwarming. Shelby was an absolute firecracker, and I’m obsessed with these Wildhaven girls. They’re so strong, yet Amber beautifully showcases their vulnerabilities, which makes their stories even more captivating. Each book adds more depth to these sisters, and I adore that. Waylon and Shelby together were pure fire—they were perfect for each other and fulfilled needs in one another they didn’t even realise. I also loved getting to know Waylon’s parents better; they were amazing, and their story answered so many questions I had after book one. This book will hit you right in the heart and won’t let go. This series just keeps getting better, and with Harleigh’s story up next, I can’t wait to dive in!
Third book in this great series and I was really looking forward to it,
Love the women in this series - they are headstrong, feisty and fun. Shelby is no different and she is not pleased to see the return of Waylon who she had a brief encounter with as a teenager. Waylon arrives back to the family home with his daughter and there is a huge backstory for where he has been and how his wee girl came into his life ( no spoilers). I loved the story that build with them but also more about his family and the wider story with all the sisters and their family. Full of humour, all the feels and angst with a generous sprinkle of spice. My only complaint ( and it’s not really a complaint) is that the story stops quite abruptly. I am sure Shelby and Waylons story will continue in the next book but I just wanted more of them ! Great story and looking forward to the next one
Can be read standalone ( but it’s a cracking series)
I received this as an ARC and these are my thoughts given voluntarily
I think this one is my favorite of this series by Amber Kelly. I'm a sucker for a single dad, and Waylon was a great dad, even though he didn't know he was a father until a couple months ago. Ruby was such a cute and sweet little girl. My heart hurt so bad for Waylon and the trauma he has carried with him most of his life. He knew when Ruby was brought into his life, that he had to go back home because he was going to need his parent's help. They both opened their arms and hearts to Waylon and his little girl.
Shelby was still harboring a lot of hurt and anger over what Waylon did to her years ago. When he shows back up in town, she vows to stay away from him. But when he turns to Shelby to help work with his daughter and her pony, Shelby isn't able to say no. Soon Shelby finds out that Waylon has no memory of the moments that crushed her young heart.
With the help of Ruby, Shelby's heart is soon mended, only to be broken again. This time Waylon is determined to make it right much faster than in the past.
Chasing the Storm was a sweet, emotional slow burn that completely pulled me in. The writing is sharp, and the characters are memorable and well-developed.
Waylon Ludlow returns to his hometown of Wildhaven after eight years away, bringing his four-year-old daughter, Ruby. He doesn’t understand why the Storm sisters especially Shelby seem to dislike him so much. When Waylon asks Shelby to help train Ruby for barrel racing, they are forced back into each other’s lives, reopening old wounds and unresolved feelings.
Watching Shelby and Waylon reconnect was both emotional and rewarding. The slow rebuilding of trust, Waylon’s devotion to Ruby, and their gradual romantic growth had me rooting for them the entire way. Their banter is fun, the chemistry is undeniable, and the slow burn makes their story feel completely earned.

I wasn’t expecting to like Waylon due to what I’d read about him in previous books but goodness that man made me love him. Waylon returns home after eight years but he’s not alone. He has a four year old daughter, Ruby and he knows he has to be a better man for her. Waylon takes a job working for his dad. He has a run in with Shelby Storm and the meeting is very icy. Waylon is clueless why Shelby and her sisters don’t seem to life him. Despite the cold shoulder, he signs Ruby up to be trained by Shelby. Shelby sees the man that Waylon is with his daughter and it helps her to see that there’s more to Waylon than what everyone believed. Waylon and Shelby start dating but trouble comes when Waylon gets some unexpected news.
This was a beautiful book. I loved Shelby and Waylon together. I adored little Ruby and how Waylon loved her. I also loved the family dynamics in this book. I just loved this book.
**I received an advanced copy of the book for free and I am voluntarily leaving this review.**
When Shelby loves she loves deeply which is why she is always there for her family and why she still carries a grudge for Waylon even if it has been years since he broke her heart and left town. Now that he is back she is determined to keep her distance as she doesn’t want to feel that devastation again however his daughter Ruby quickly steals her heart and she can’t deny how being a father has changed him.
Waylon regrets his past and acknowledges that he didn’t handle his emotions in the best way but now that he is a father he wants to be a better man. He regrets his past actions and when he sees Shelby again he wants a second chance however that means overcoming the mistakes of the past and showing her that she can trust him with her heart.
This is a heartwarming story about love, family and healing from the past. Due to the life experiences they had while they were apart they are no longer the same people and that only makes the feelings they have for each other more special and intense.
