Charming and oh-so-fun! Miss Marple is one of my favorite characters of all time. To see this mash-up between the Roger Hargreaves characters and Agatha Christie's mysteries is wonderful and adorable! I read all of the Little Mr. and Little Miss books to my kids when they were young and I still love them today.

There is actually a mystery in this little children's book! Not just a random story placing Miss Marple in the middle of Hargreaves' Little world. I can't tell you what a treat it was to read this colorful and sturdy hardcover book—the floral wallpaper end papers are so sweet!

So many thanks to my thoughtful husband for buying these books for me! Highly recommended to any Agatha Christie (and Roger Hargreaves) fan! Definitely worth the money and a fantastically delightful addition to my Agatha Christie collection!

As the year is coming to an end and this will be our final review for 2025, we decided to finish off with a fun one.
When your a fan of Agatha Christie and the Mr Men / Little Miss books and they announce a collaboration, what do you do……
You get very excited, purchase them both and fall in love with them.
What’s even move intoxicating is that there’s more books to come with the next two released in February 2026.
In the first book, Mr Poirot escapes the chilly weather to travel down the River Nile and gets to solve a mystery in Mischief On The Nile.
And in the next book, Little Miss Marple resides in St Mary Mead where nothing gets past her sharp eyes including a theft in Muddle At The Vicarage.
These children’s books are pure and innocent fun with lots of familiar faces and a mystery to solve.
Great for kids and parents reading for kids and even for adults everywhere.
There’s lots of eye catching illustrations to delight in too.
Books to be enjoyed and read over and over in many years to come.

I adore the Mr Men and Little Miss series and also an Agatha Christie, so i couldnt wait to see what wonders awaited when the two merged! Little Miss Marple isnt investigating a murder, but there is a suspected thief on the loose in the village. With some careful observation and lots of pondering whilst knitting, she manages to unravel the mystery. A superb book for all ages.

Now, I would not go so far as to say that Little Miss Marple was nosy, let's just say that she had a keen interest in the goings on in the village.

What a fantastic idea.

Combining Agatha Christie's groundbreaking sleuth with the iconic Mr Men and Little Miss characters, this Little gem of a book has the potential to bring the golden age of crime to a whole new generation.

Very loosely based around The Murder at the Vicarage, Little Miss Marple must solve the crime of a stolen ancient crown. The Mr Men and Little Miss companions weave in seamlessly, adding their usual hijinx into the mix.

A lot of fun but I have to leave room to give Mr Poirot: Mischief on the Nile a higher rating as I am more of a fan of the Belgian detective. At this stage 4 stars.

Η Agatha Christie διασκευασμένη για παιδιά; Ω, ναι! Ο κύριος Πουαρό και η κυρία Μαρπλ εντάσσονται στο σύμπαν των λατρεμένων από μικρούς και μεγάλους Μικρών Κυρίων και Μικρών Κυριών και ξεκινάνε να λύνουν μυστήρια βασισμένα στην παρατήρηση και στη σκέψη. Μικρές προτάσεις, ανατροπές, στοιχεία που οδηγούν στη λύση του μυστηρίου και αφήνουν τα παιδιά να τα εντοπίσουν μόνα τους, χιούμορ και αίσιο τέλος είναι μερικά μόνο από τα θετικά χαρακτηριστικά μιας προσεγμένης απόδοσης των κλασικών αστυνομικών μυθιστορημάτων που όλοι αγαπήσαμε. Φυσικά, δεν έχουμε να κάνουμε με φόνους αλλά με κλοπές πολύτιμων κοσμημάτων.

Ο συνταγματάρχης Βιαστικός, που ταξιδεύει μαζί του, του αποκαλύπτει πως βρίσκεται σε μυστική αποστολή: αναζητά έναν κλέφτη κοσμημάτων. Ταυτόχρονα, μια σειρά από φάρσες αναστατώνουν τους επιβάτες: ο κύριος Γαργαλίτσας, ο ταγματάρχης Σκανταλιάρης, η κοντέσα Διάσημη με την υπηρέτριά της, την κυρία Παλαβούλα, πέφτουν θύματα σκανταλιών που τραβούν την προσοχή του κυρίου Πουαρό. Απολαυστικές, αστείες και ανατρεπτικές ιστορίες, με σεβασμό στο πρωτότυπο κείμενο της Agatha Christie, δείχνουν στα παιδιά πώς να βάζουν το μυαλό τους να σκέφτεται και τους χαρίζουν συναρπαστικές στιγμές ανάγνωσης. Η εικονογράφηση είναι πολύχρωμη, με μεγάλες φιγούρες και πολλές λεπτομέρειες που ενισχύουν τη φαντασία των μικρών αναγνωστών. Προσπερνώντας το γεγονός πως ο Πουαρό είναι κίτρινος και η Μαρπλ μωβ, είδα πως υπάρχει πιστότητα και στις φιγούρες τους, με το μουστάκι του ντετέκτιβ και τα γυαλιά και το καπέλο της ηλικιωμένης μας φίλης να ξεχωρίζουν. Ο Νείλος, το Καρνάκ και το κρουαζιερόπλοιο αποτυπώνονται σωστά και αποπνέουν ατμόσφαιρα εξωτισμού. Από την άλλη, το Σεντ Μέρι Μιντ, με τους δρόμους του και τα εσωτερικά των σπιτιών του, ζωντανεύει με ενάργεια και παραστατικότητα. Λουλούδια, ταπετσαρίες, σερβίτσια έχουν τον πρώτο λόγο και γέλασα πολύ με τη συνοφρυωμένη κυρία Μαρπλ που προσπαθεί να λύσει το μυστήριο. Ο κύριος Πουαρό και η κυρία Μαρπλ είναι οι νέοι ήρωες στο σύμπαν των λατρεμένων Μικρών Κυρίων και Μικρών Κυριών και με κέρδισαν από την πρώτη στιγμή.

Mischief on the Nile & Muddle at the Vicarage

Mlle Alice, pouvez-vous nous raconter votre rencontre avec Mischief on the Nile & Muddle at the Vicarage ?
"Je suis tombée par hasard sur ces deux petites publications et j'ai tout de suite trouvée l'idée superbe. J'espère qu'ils sortiront en français mais je ne pouvais pas attendre et le papa noël a eu la gentillesse de les déposer sous mon sapin."

Dites-nous en un peu plus sur son histoire...
"Un collier disparait lors d'une croisière sur le Nil, une couronne de grande valeur au presbytère, et nos deux enquêteurs sont immédiatement sur le qui-vive..."

Mais que s'est-il exactement passé entre vous ?
"L'objet livre en lui-même est très mignon et soigné, avec un joli motif sur les pages de garde, adapté à chacun, fleuri pour Miss Marple et Art Déco pour Poirot. Les dessins m'ont amusée, est-ce qu'il n'y aurait pas une certaine ressemblance avec David Suchet ? Et les autres personnages de ces histoires n'ont pas été choisis au hasard. J'ai commencé par le Poirot et j'ai vraiment trouvé l'adaptation ingénieuse. Pas de crime sanglant bien sûr, c'est une histoire pour enfants, et plus de malice que de méchanceté. Je me suis donc bien amusée à replonger dans l'univers des Monsieur, Madame de mon enfance, tout en retrouvant le charme d'Agatha Christie. Puis j'ai lu le Miss Marple, qui présente les mêmes qualités, à ceci près que l'histoire, et surtout son dénouement, le clou de l'intrigue, sont quasiment identiques au premier. J'ai trouvé ça un peu décevant même si je suis consciente que les options étaient limitées."

Et comment cela s'est-il fini ?
"L'idée est vraiment drôle et bien exécutée, même si elle tourne rapidement en rond. Je les conseille à tous les amateurs de la reine du crime. Ce sera aussi un cadeau amusant à faire s'ils sont traduits."

""What a peculiar thing," chuckled Little Miss Marple." And I'd say the same, but without the chuckling. Alerted to the existence of these books by local TV news (so they must have needed the publicity, there was no event or anything to make them newsworthy) I found the first two to be quite mediocre. "Muddle at the Vicarage" (9780008742911) has a Little Miss Marple struggling to work out who stole a newly-discovered ancient crown, while "Mischief on the Nile" (9780008740948) has Poirot and his little grey cells on the hunt for stolen pearls. Both do nod to the cosy side of cosy crime, for juniors, but I don't think they fully work.

To me, "Muddle" had too many of the characters known and unknown, adding to the depths of the investigation but not being nearly as clear or coherent as the original Mister Men books were. "Mischief" again has quite a few in the cast, and added to that complexity you have the fact that some of Poirot's speech is of course in French, and words like "circumventing" are thrown in, for no reason.

Now, I haven't read a Hargreaves book from father or son for decades now, but my memory of the originals was they were gentle, genial little things for genial little readers, and involving few characters at a time. They might all be a step up in complexity now, but they ought not be, in my mind. And even if these are pitched a year or two older than the franchise's main fan base, they don't really work. Fans of Mister Men will wonder just what is going on with the circumventing and so on, and readers of junior crime dramas won't want to still be in the company of these characters. I doubted these would work, but hoped they did. They didn't, and three stars for each is being generous.

As fans of all The Little Miss and Mr Men books. I can honestly report that my grown up children were almost as excited as I was to read Little Miss Marple, Muddle At The Vicarage. It did Not disappoint! What a fun read. A great way to introduce Agatha Christie’s name and a couple of her characters to younger readers. As they get a bit older they may select a Agatha Christie for themselves while at the school or public library. She is a wonderful writer, easy to read while not being dumbed down. Not even in the vicinity, of the amount of violence that is often common place in many modern books. The books do sometimes represent a different time period. What a wonderful way to learn about our past and that time in our history.
Mr. Poirot’s Mischief On The Nile, also by Roger Hargreaves and Agatha Christie is a wonderful book too!

I picked this up on a recent trip to London (I believe it's a Waterstones exclusive) because I have fond memories of the Mr. Men books as a child, and love whodunits, especially by the incomparable Agatha Christie. And this is a simply adorable marriage of the Mr. Men illustrated series of children's books and Christie's popular protagonist, Miss Marple. The author/illustrator managed to capture the essence of the nosy elderly villager in this short work. While I preferred Mr. Poirot: Mischief on the Nile, this is also a lovely re-imagining of the Agatha Christie for young children (and the young at heart).

Εντάξει, εμένα γενικά μου αρέσει περισσότερο ο Πουαρό από τη Μαρπλ, αλλά κι αυτό το βιβλίο ήταν γλυκούλι. Κι αυτό με γέμισε με νοστ��λγία για τα παιδικά μου χρόνια και με έκανε να χαμογελάω όλη την ώρα.
Επειδή είμαι λίγο ξινή, βέβαια, θέλω να καταθέσω ότι έχω μείνει με ερωτήματα γύρω από την προέλευση του στέμματος.

Another beautiful blend of Agatha Christie and Mr Men! This time it’s Miss Marple in the village with the knitting needles and putting together the information she has seen and gathered to solve the mystery.

Another brilliant mashup of mr men and an Agatha Christie novel. Not read the original story (unlike death on the Nile) so unaware of what elements are inspired by the source material. Will have to try to read murder at the vicarage at some point this year.

As a collector of all things Christie, this and the accompanying Mr. Poirot book were must buys.
It’s a jolly little homage to Murder at the Vicarage that even has a clue or two. Definitely better than the Poirot story!
