My first book through Edelweiss and it’s an absolute page turner!
The Heart You Kept is the first in a series so don’t get caught up like I did, worried I was going to get a rushed ending as the percentage to read dwindled on my Kindle.
Alora Sorensen is completing a bucket list on behalf of her late friend, and at a secluded club in the Swiss Alps she meets a nameless man (Edward Prescott) and shares an unforgettable night with him. Years later they cross paths and the connection they shared seems very much alive and well, though they’re both dating other people.
This book is a billionaire romance by TL Swan of the Miles High Club series (ie. TL is definitely no stranger to the subgenre). Edward is abrasive and short tempered, with incredibly high standards and expectations. He moves in circles Alora can’t begin to imagine, despite the fact she has inherited some wealth and is a successful antiquities dealer in her own right.
I found this an intriguing book once I got past the laddish-boorish side to Edward. A slight mellowing of his character does wonders for him as he finds himself enamoured with Alora who is intelligent and kind with a bit of backbone when Edward least expects it. She’s got some great friendships that provide a depth to her character and a side of humour. We see the book’s pace pick up during the last third, as a suspense dynamic begins to play out, in preparation for book 2 of the series.
Comparing this to the Miles High Club series, I wasn’t sure whether to say this is a more mature foundation in terms of the complexities. I wondered if it was because I found the characters to be more edgey and the settings more sophisticated. There’s a sense of risk involving Edward’s past, his friendships and business dealings which I’m hoping will play out across future books.

While I would have loved a neatly tied ending, this story deliberately leaves you wanting more, with its continuation promised in The Soul You Own. And honestly, I wouldn’t expect anything less. If T.L. Swan writes it, I will read it—impatiently counting down until the next installment.
