Fragmente. Bilder von verruchten Nächten und … Reißzähnen.

Four stars. But from a writer's perspective, this book deserves something very close to perfection.
Alongside Stefanie Decker's Carmen, Vivere by Isabell North is, without question, one of the most skillfully crafted novels I've read in the past two years.
And that's quite a statement considering how many books I read. We're talking about a fascinating vampire story filled with dangerously attractive vampires, equally tempting hunters, and a strong heroine whose greatest mystery is her own past.
But what truly impressed me wasn't the premise. It was the extraordinary way Isabell North controls information.
July's POV dominates the narrative. She remembers only fragments of her past, and as she fights against the vampires, she repeatedly encounters clues that challenge everything she believes about herself.
Psychologically, this creates a fascinating tension between identity and memory. How do you know who you are when you cannot remember who you were? And as readers, we're trapped inside that uncertainty with her.
Then Isabell makes a brilliant narrative decision. She introduces Adrian's POV, the leader of the vampires, relatively late and with remarkable precision. His perspective doesn't simply add another voice. It fundamentally changes our understanding of what we've been reading, preparing the ground for a wonderfully executed plot twist.
But my absolute favorite storytelling device?
The short passages from Savior Silent after each chapter. These fragments are fantastic! They constantly challenge our assumptions about power, danger, and loyalty. Who is actually hunting whom? Who knows more than they're revealing? And who is truly in control?
From a writer's perspective, this is exceptionally clever. Isabell doesn't create suspense simply by withholding answers. She carefully distributes information across different narrative perspectives, allowing each new revelation to change the meaning of what came before.
That is sophisticated plotting.
And the ending? Brilliantly executed, genuinely surprising, and exactly the kind of conclusion that makes you desperately wish Book 2 were already available.
So why only four stars?
Two reasons. First, the pacing. As much as I admired the intricate construction, the story occasionally moved too slowly for my taste. I would have appreciated a little more momentum between the major revelations.
Second, the spice! With so many incredibly hot vampires and hunters, I was definitely hoping for more than three spicy scenes. Especially since those scenes largely unfold through dreams and thoughts rather than actual encounters.
The potential for deliciously dangerous chemistry is enormous, and I sincerely hope Isabell unleashes much more of it in Book 2!
But neither criticism changes how impressed I am by the writing. Vivere is an outstanding example of how narrative perspective, fragmented memory, and carefully controlled revelations can transform a vampire romance into a psychologically fascinating mystery.
Four stars for my personal reading experience. But an enormous amount of respect for the craftsmanship behind it. Isabell North's fans are going to devour this one. And I'll be waiting impatiently for the sequel!
