After a disastrous one-night stand, a last-minute destination wedding seems like the perfect escape. Until she sees the sleeping arrangements…
Wedding photographer Mira Maxwell thought hooking up with Hudson Hayes—the charming bartender who’s been making her laugh for weeks—was the perfect escape from her imploding career. But when she wakes up in the morning, she discovers he isn’t quite as strings-free as he appeared…
Desperate to get away, Mira accepts a last-minute invitation to shoot a friend’s wedding in the Grand Tetons. But Hudson is one of the guests. And to make it even more awkward? She has to share a room with him…and his girlfriend.
Hudson thought dealing with his clingy ex-girlfriend would be the worst part of his stepbrother’s wedding. But after Mira turns up in his room, even disastrous boat trips, bear spray incidents, and escalating family drama can’t hold a candle to his biggest proving himself to Mira.
At a wedding where everything’s gone wrong, the question is: can anything go right?
A rollicking romcom of misunderstandings, mishaps and emotional revelations, this debut is perfect for fans of Meghan Quinn, Christina Lauren and Emily Henry.
A North Carolina native, Jessica Fowler fell in love with storytelling from a young age, from writing ghost stories in historic cemeteries, devouring gritty YA novels faster than she could buy them, and watching every indie movie she could get her hands on. After earning degrees in Creative Writing and Film Studies from NC State University, she began writing romantic comedies inspired by her favorite vacations.
Jessica lives in Raleigh with her two supervillain dogs, her bio-chemist partner, and an exorbitant amount of leather jackets. When she’s not shooting weddings for her photography business, Three Region, she’s probably sipping a mocktail at one of her favorite dive bars or hanging at the library.
I am literally never going to shut up about this book. I could not physically put it down from the moment I started reading. This is one of, if not the best book I have read so far this year. What Could Go Wrong? Absolutely everything. This book has it ALL. All of the characters were so well written, the storyline never once felt like it was dragging, the descriptions of where they are were perfect. I will be reading anything and everything else I can from this author.
This was an easy, enjoyable read—perfect for a holiday. It offers a nice storyline with a fresh twist on the fake romance trope. I also loved the author dedication. I was hooked from that point on :) I appreciated the advance copy from NetGalley and think it will make a great summer 2026 read.
This book combined so many of my favourite things that it genuinely felt like it had been written specifically for me. We’ve got Lord of the Rings references, Gilmore Girls vibes, movie quotes sprinkled throughout… I was SOLD. Every little pop culture moment felt fun rather than forced, and it gave the whole story this cosy, comforting energy that made it ridiculously easy to fly through. And the vibes? Very Unhoneymooners in the best possible way, which immediately worked in its favour because anyone who knows me knows that book owns a little piece of my soul. Like it wasn’t fake dating in the same way that The Unhoneymooners is, but the fact its set in a destination wedding… idk, I cant describe it but the vibes felt similar but different. Don’t question me okay! What I appreciated most was the way the miscommunication trope was handled. Yes, there’s tension and misunderstanding, but it never completely hijacks the plot to the point where you want to throw the book across the room. It felt realistic enough to create conflict without making the characters unbearable, which is a rare balance. But the real winner for me was the rekindling friendship aspect. Something about two people finding their way back to each other emotionally will always get me. There’s such a softness to it. The familiarity, the history, the comfort of already knowing someone deeply while rediscovering them at the same time… inject it directly into my veins. This book was warm, funny, nostalgic, and genuinely charming without trying too hard. It gave me comfort read energy while still keeping me emotionally invested the whole way through. Absolutely adored it and feel like its helped a little with my slump. Will defo recommend.
This debut was such a fun surprise. I picked it up through the Prime May First Reads selection, and I’m really glad I did.
From the beginning, I found Mira incredibly easy to connect with. Her worries about her business, her career uncertainty, and the self-doubt she carries all felt very grounded and relatable. Even amongst the chaos and humour, there’s an emotional honesty to her character that gave the story a lot of heart.
Hudson ended up surprising me in the best way. I initially expected more of the charming bartender energy, but I really loved how down-to-earth and outdoorsy he was. There’s a steadiness to him beneath the humour and awkward situations, and I especially loved seeing the ways he cared for Mira throughout the story.
The setting was also such a standout. Between the wedding chaos and all the mishaps, the Grand Tetons backdrop added so much atmosphere to the story, and there were multiple moments where I genuinely wished I could be there myself.
The romance itself was fun, messy, and full of misunderstandings in that classic romcom way, but what I appreciated most was that this isn’t a third-act-breakup romance. Instead, the emotional tension comes more from the characters learning how to communicate honestly, work through their insecurities, and decide whether they’re willing to let someone truly show up for them. It made the relationship feel more grounded, and the ending feel all the more rewarding, without relying on unnecessary separation.
Final Thoughts: A charming and entertaining debut with a gorgeous setting, lovable characters, and little sprinkles of humour woven throughout alongside emotional vulnerability. I’ll definitely be interested to see what Jessica Fowler writes next.

"After a disastrous one-night stand, a last-minute destination wedding seems like the perfect escape. Until she sees the sleeping arrangements…"

This book was an adventure! I enjoyed the destination wedding in Wyoming, complete with family drama and secrets. I loved all of the crazy fun pre-wedding activities 🌼 🏞
Mira and Hudson were great main characters and their slow burn relationship was perfect! Life can be confusing, but I love how Mira found herself along the way.
This is a really cute and enjoyable book. It's funny, romantic, and has a great plot ❤️
"I'm used to the unexpected: a sudden rainstorm on a sunny day, a bridesmaid passing out in the middle of a wedding ceremony, but Hudson Hayes standing in front of me feels like a cosmic joke." - Mira
Wedding photographer Mira and Hudson have danced around each other for some time, but the morning after they finally hook up, Mira is shocked to see another woman's things strewn around his apartment. After what happened at the last wedding she attended, that is a complication she doesn't want. When an old college friend asks her for help at her destination wedding, it seems an ideal escape. Oh, this was so good. We are drip-fed Mira's issues, which go a long way to explaining her attitudes. And we see aspects of Hudson and his family which explains his. Lots of fun, plenty of angst and an evil ex, who maybe isn't quite that evil after all. Really good.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book was EXACTLY what I needed. I've been in a major reading slump for weeks. I feel like I needed a change of scenery so I bumped this to the top of my list.
I have been trying to write this review for a couple of hours and just can't put into words how I loved everything about this book. It had everything I didn't realize I needed right now. Fun MCs, personal growth, complicated friends and family dynamics, and of course a HEA.
I generally DESPISE a miscommunication trope, but this was well done. It was clear that it was going to be a central theme from very early on, but it wasn't crazy dramatic. In the circumstances in which they were, it was easy to believe that the course taken could be natural and not overly convoluted for the sake of plot.
Mira and Hudson's story grabbed me right away and I was so invested in both of them. I loved not only both of the MCs, but I felt like all of the characters were pretty well developed. There were many side stories that intertwined with theirs, but all played out really well and didn't detract from the overall story. Every "side quest" enhanced the plot overall and really worked to flesh out the whole story into something that felt very real.
Hudson was an absolute NERD of a golden retriever and I love him. (I mean, he doordashed eggs to his apartment in the middle of the night because he wanted to cook her breakfast that first morning after their spontaneous night together. How freaking cute.)
The complications with their respective personal lives and careers were so very relatable and my heart ached for both throughout this book. All of the subtle layers that were pulled back on Mira's story about her loss of friendship with her best friend each added a crack in my heart for her. And that loss was so intricately interwoven into her self worth as a person, that it turned her completely upside down. I really enjoyed watching Hudson help her tear down her walls and the way they supported each other.
Overall, a fun book with some serious topics (family drama, career drama, etc), but nothing triggering. I went through all the emotions including a few teary moments, but was smiling through most of it because they were just too cute.
Some quotes from the ARC (final published version may differ)>:
"People can understand romantic breakups, the soul-crushing depths of losing a person you that you'd be with forever. But losing a friend could feel the same way. The only difference is that an apartment could be replaced as easily as swiping right on an app, but replacing a best friend, especially as a woman pushing thirty, feels like an impossibility." ---
"That's the thing... without my camera, I'm nothing to these people. And now that it's gone, what use am I now?" ---
"I can't believe I get to see all of her. The sour and the sweet. The subtle and the strong."
this was such a fun, chaotic little palate cleanser—exactly the kind of one-sitting read you pick up when you want something light, messy, and entertaining 💚✨ Mira and Hudson’s setup is so romcom-coded from the start: flirty bartender x regular customer, slow build of tension… and then everything immediately spirals the second they act on it 😅 the misunderstanding that kicks off the plot definitely leans into classic miscommunication territory. Mira waking up, seeing what looks like clear evidence of another woman, and bolting? completely understandable. Hudson… not clearing things up quickly? deeply frustrating 😂 like truly—this man had so many opportunities to fix things and just… didn’t. if miscommunication tropes aren’t your thing, this might test your patience a bit. that said, once they’re thrown back together at the wedding (with forced proximity, shared spaces, and very awkward circumstances), the story really finds its rhythm 💫 the destination wedding setting was such a highlight. the national park backdrop and outdoorsy vibe added a fresh layer to the usual wedding chaos—everything feels a little more cinematic and unhinged in the best way 🌲💍 and chaos is the right word here—because everything that can go wrong at this wedding pretty much does. it leans into that zany, over-the-top energy, which makes it a fun ride even when things feel a bit crowded (there are a lot of characters to keep track of 👀). Hudson ended up being a standout for me despite his communication issues. he’s soft, a little awkward, clearly down bad for Mira, and very much an acts-of-service kind of guy—which always works 🥹 also… the nerdy side? the Lord of the Rings references? we love to see it 🤍 Mira’s storyline added more emotional depth than I expected, especially with the fallout from a broken friendship affecting her career and confidence. that thread grounded the story nicely amidst all the chaos. the romance itself is on the lighter side spice-wise—think warm, flirty, with just enough heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the story 🔥 overall, this is a quick, entertaining romcom with messy miscommunication, wedding chaos, and a sweet (if slightly frustrating) love story at its core 💚 read if you love: 💚 destination wedding drama 💚 forced proximity 💚 fake dating complications 💚 bartender x photographer 💚 awkward, acts-of-service MMCs
3.5 / 5 Stars This book was exactly what I needed it to be: a quick, easy, palette cleanser read. It had fun moments and a lot of zany twists (everything that can go wrong at this wedding does - bless the bride), but I found the lack of communication from the male lead a bit frustrating.
Mira and Hudson have been flirting at a bar for months (he’s the bartender and he’s a patron). When they finally move things to the next level, she wakes up in his apartment and finds a lot of female touches (and photos of him with another woman) and rightfully assumes he is a cheater. She bolts and two days later, she is the photographer at a wedding where he is the wedding party. Oh, and he and his ex are still fake dating.
His inability to tell Mira that he, in fact, was not a cheater and was not still dating his ex lasted a bit too long for me. I get that the lack of communication and misunderstanding drove the plot, but I did want to shake Hudson and say “send her a text, a telegram, write it in the sky, just tell her PLEASE!” He also didn’t want to tell her about his new job (he’s a nepo baby and a bit embarrassed by it) but that added on to his inability to tell her about his relationship, just wasn’t a good look.
And this might be just me, but there were too many wedding guests for me to keep track of. I was using the search function often on my kindle to be like “which guests is this?” Oh, and there is a twist with the bride at the end and no spoilers from me, but it just didn’t feel authentic that it would happen the NIGHT before their wedding.
All of that being said, the book was engaging and moved quickly which I really appreciated. Even though Hudson is not the best at communicating, he was so in love with Mira and wanted to help so badly which I really loved. Mira’s grief about her friendship ending was also well written and explored.
You will probably like this book if you like: 💚 Romances with a destination wedding 💚 She’s the photographer, he’s in the wedding party 💚 Forced proximity 💚 He’s fake dating his ex 💚 An acts of services man

Synopsis: After a hookup ends with Mira believing her crush has been in a relationship the entire time, she jumps at the opportunity for a weekend getaway. Working as a wedding photographer for an old friend feels like the perfect chance to reset both her career and her love life. However, her plans are upended when her crush appears behind her lens, introduced as the groom’s brother and best man. As a wedding photographer who no longer believes in love, Mira must navigate a weekend of forced proximity and unexpected revelations. Review: What Could Go Wrong? is a cute, low-drama romance that leans into the "secret billionaire" and "forced proximity" tropes. The story benefits from a dual-POV structure, which allows the reader to see the internal shifts in both Mira and Hudson as they navigate their complicated baggage. While the plot is incredibly cute and easy to read, it leans more toward a lighthearted beach read than an emotional powerhouse. It offers a pleasant, steady experience, focusing more on the charm of the setting and the characters than on heavy conflict. What I Liked: - The Meet Cute: The opening chapter, where the FMC visits the local bar, felt very grounded and relatable. There is a specific charm to that Millennial desire of wanting to be a regular at a neighborhood café or bar, and it sets the tone for the book. - Established Connection: I appreciated that the characters didn't just meet. Having a standing friendship and a history together made the transition into their current dynamic feel more earned. - Cozy Vibes: The minimal drama and happy ending make this a perfect summer read. What I Didn't Like: - Lack of Emotional Depth: While the story is enjoyable, it lacked the substance needed to elicit a strong emotional reaction. It didn't quite reach the level of making me laugh out loud or moving me to tears. - Sensory Description: What is up with authors and petrichor? I swear this scent is used in every other book to describe how the male lead smells. Final Verdict: What Could Go Wrong? is a sweet romance that delivers exactly what it promises: a happy ending in a cozy setting. It is a solid choice for readers who enjoy a cute plot with likable characters and very little stress.

Mira and Hudson have been enjoying time together every time she goes to Finn's bar after work, where Hudson pours her terrible drinks but great conversations. One night, after one too many drinks, they decide to act on the strong chemistry that keeps on pushing them together, but a misunderstanding ruins them. To make matters worse, she will be hired as a photographer for the wedding of Hudson's brother, and they'll be forced to confront each other and the feelings that tie them together.
I usually try to make a detailed review, but this book left me speechless. The way this author writes about love is so precious. She writes about love in a raw way that shows how much of it is based around connection, seeing the other person completely and accepting them, and how much the small daily details and routines can make two people love each other.
Besides being the perfect romance for what I just mentioned, it was also the ideal comedy. As the title of the book aims at, EVERYTHING goes wrong, hilariously so. A wedding is the ideal setting for this because it leads to chaos and can drive people crazy. Now, imagine a destination wedding in the middle of a ranch in Wyoming, where people who are super different will be forced to spend time together and in nature. Chaos, accidents (nothing scary or dangerous, all good fun) and misunderstandings are a given in such an environment.
I loved every chapter of this book, thanks to the beautiful writing it had, the perfect middle pace and how real the main characters felt to me. Their pasts, their fears and dreams resonated so much with me that I was rooting for their happiness (both individually and together) every chapter.
This was such a fun, fast read that I ended up devouring in a single day. Mira is a wedding photographer whose career takes a hit after a one-star review from a former friend, and Hudson is the cute bartender next door who, despite his good looks, can’t actually mix a drink to save his life. After weeks of building a connection, Hudson finally makes a move… only for everything to spiral the very next morning when Mira discovers what looks like evidence of another woman in his life and bolts. Unfortunately, their paths cross again almost immediately when Hudson shows up at a wedding she’s shooting, and even more unfortunately, they end up stuck sharing a room, along with his supposed girlfriend. From there, things unravel in a way that’s messy, awkward, and ultimately more complicated than they first appear.
I loved the national park setting and the outdoorsy vibe, which added something extra to the story. Hudson was easily a standout for me. He was adorable, a little awkward, and I loved his nerdy side, especially all the Lord of the Rings references. We need more MMCs like him. And I have to say, I appreciated the “short king” representation. While 5’9” isn’t exactly short, it was still refreshing to see a hero who wasn’t written as some towering, overly perfect figure. The romance had just a touch of spice, similar to what you’d expect from an Emily Henry book, and overall it struck a nice balance between lighthearted and heartfelt. For a debut novel, this was a really strong start, and I’m definitely excited to see what Jessica Fowler writes next.
With thanks to NetGalley for providing this book as an ARC in exchange for a review!
As it turns out, "What Could Go Wrong?" is the answer to every rom-com lover's prayers.
This is a well-written, summer-ready read that is a guaranteed hit, whether you’re cozying up at home or lounging by the pool. I absolutely flew through this book, definitely keep your eyes peeled for the June publishing date!
Filled with characters that drip with sarcasm, this book was exactly my kind of read and it offers a little bit of everything: fake relationships, forced proximity, found family, and the classic "only one bed" trope. While it utilizes the standard formula, it skillfully tips the genre on its head with the way it handles some of the tropes. I love that it's written as a dual POV - one of that things I look for and enjoy, especially in romance.
The central characters, Mira and Hudson, are stunning (and it certainly doesn't hurt that Hudson is described as a red-headed Paul Mescal either), you'll be routing for them from the beginning and shaking your head at them throughout. I found myself equally in love with Vanessa and Adrian.
Honestly, all of the characters were well written and whilst they provided freer comedic relief, they were fleshed out interesting in their own right - I could have read a chapter from each of their POV (and maybe a whole second book from Susan's POV).
If I had to nitpick, I would have loved to meet Hudson’s dad at some point or see a bit more of Hudson’s new career, but those are minor wishes for a story I thoroughly enjoyed.
What Could Go Wrong by Jessica Fowler is a charming, low stakes romance that made for a quick and easy read. The premise had potential and led to some fun moments, but the setup itself was not always believable.
The story follows Mira, who accepts a last minute wedding photography job after a hookup leaves her convinced her crush Hudson was involved with someone else the entire time. Her plans for a distraction fall apart when Hudson turns out to be the groom's stepbrother. It’s a fun premise on the surface, but some of the details that put the characters in these situations felt contrived or unnecessary.
The beginning also felt a little rushed when it came to establishing Mira and Hudson's connection. We’re told they had been flirting and talking for months, but early on it mostly comes across as little more than a bar crush. Showing more of that foundation upfront would have made the romance feel more earned when things escalate.
Once the story got going, the pacing improved a lot and I appreciated that the ending took its time rather than rushing to wrap things up. The outdoor wedding setting added a nice atmosphere, though a few too many wedding guests were introduced along the way, most of whom did not contribute much to the plot.
Overall, a solid debut with a sweet tone and enough charm to keep the pages turning. A good pick for readers looking for a light romance that does not take itself too seriously.
2.5 stars Mira and Hudson's romance was cute enough, but I think the place in their story where the book started wasn't the best and kept me from getting fully invested. I'm not the biggest fan of the miscommunication trope in any case, but can usually be pretty forgiving if I've first had time to fall in love with the characters. Here, the kind of miscommunication that would usually lead to a third act conflict was where we started the story, and that meant for the longest time my main feeling about the characters was frustration with how long it took to clear up that misunderstanding. I probably would've rooted for them more if I'd had the chance to first witness them meeting, getting to know each other and falling for each other. Instead, we were only told that that is their history instead of getting to see it.
I did really like what the book did with the friendship break-up Mira was going through with Phoebe. That part was well done and Mira's feelings about it were so relatable.
All the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit references were cute and nerdy, but also a little bit overdone in my opinion (where being a Tolkien fan felt like it made up at least half of Hudson's personality). The epilogue was kind of adorable though.
Thank you to the publisher, Amazon Publishing UK | Montlake, for providing a review copy via NetGalley. This review reflects my honest opinion.
Okay but this book was basically a chaotic destination wedding wrapped in forced proximity, miscommunication, and peak rom-com energy and I ate it UP 😭💍
What Could Go Wrong? had me hooked from the first awkward disaster. Mira and Hudson were such a fun pairing — she’s stressed, sarcastic, and trying to keep her life together while he’s this lovable, nerdy golden retriever man who honestly deserved several hugs and maybe a communication coach 😅
The Wyoming wedding setting was SO vivid and made the whole thing feel like a summer movie. Between the fake dating chaos, shared room situation, family drama, and random catastrophes, there was always something happening. Also… Hudson being a LOTR nerd? Immediate bonus points.
My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the miscommunication dragged a little too long for me at times, and I wanted certain conversations to happen way sooner. But overall it was funny, cute, messy in the best way, and genuinely hard to put down.
If you love: ✨ forced proximity ✨ destination weddings ✨ black cat x golden retriever vibes ✨ awkward tension ✨ chaotic rom-coms with heart
…you’ll probably have a great time with this one 💛📸🏔️

4.75 ⭐️ “What Could Go Wrong?” With this book? Nothing! This book was fantastic, and a breath of fresh (mountain) air! The author, Jessica Fowler, gave twists to classic rom-com tropes of fake dating and black cat/golden retriever.
This romance felt refreshing, because the characters are so relatable. They’re people I know, love, and hate. The characters’ experiences will also resonate with many readers on a personal level. Like the heartbreak the FMC, Mira, feels after the betrayal and loss of her best friend. Or the deep love of a fantasy world (LOTR) the MMC, Hudson, has which developed out of a lack of love and support he needed from his mother.
The only thing I wish there could have been more of is the exploration of the minor characters like the wedding party and Hudson’s father.
Overall, this book is a must-read for a summer romance! It will make you laugh, cry, and be happy you’re along for the ride.
Thank you to Amazon Publishing UK | Montlake for the ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book in one evening. I couldn't put it down!
Hudson Hayes (forgive the alliteration) is an extroverted nerd taking weekend shifts as a bartender, but really just trying to read his well-worn pocket copy of The Hobbit between customers.
Mira Maxwell is a wedding photographer who just recently received a one-star review that is sending her vendor reputation into a tailspin; she goes to the local dive bar to think about literally anything else, and guess who’s working?
Helping out a friend, Mira agrees to cover a wedding in the Grand Tetons National Park…where Hudson and his girlfriend are guests. What can go wrong, will go wrong.
While it’s not a perfect book, it’s well-written and full of loveable characters and I can definitely see myself reading it again.
Pick this up for the perfect summer read for the hijinks of the plot, stay for the affable and endearing Hudson and his Princess Bride quotes.
I received an ARC of What Could Go Wrong? through NetGalley.
Mira being a wedding photographer was easily my favorite part. As a wedding photographer myself, this book felt very close to home. The way she talks about the job, the pressure, the emotions behind it… It all felt incredibly real and relatable to me. You can tell the author really captured that side of the industry, and I appreciated that a lot.
I flew through about 70% of the book pretty quickly. It’s fast-paced, easy to read, and works really well as a palate cleanser between heavier books. However, I did lose a bit of interest toward the end. Some of the emotional moments didn’t fully work for me, especially when it came to communication between the characters, which felt a bit frustrating at times.
That said, I still had a good time with it overall. It’s a light, enjoyable read with a unique main character perspective, and I’d recommend it if you’re looking for something quick and easy to get through.
On his last night working at the bar where Mira and Hudson became friends over months of late-night conversations, one drunken night changes everything. Mira wakes up the next morning realizing Hudson isn’t the man she thought he was—or at least that’s what she believes. Before he can explain, she’s gone.
Their unexpected reunion at a destination wedding was the perfect setup for all the tension, awkwardness, and hilarious mishaps that followed. Hudson, the groom’s stepbrother, and Mira, the bride’s former college friend and stand-in photographer, can’t seem to avoid each other. Watching Hudson slowly prove that he really is the man Mira felt he was all along made this such a fun and satisfying read.
This story had great chemistry, heartfelt moments, and genuinely funny scenes that kept me smiling throughout. Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the free advanced copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A wedding Photographer who has lost her mojo along with a big piece of herself. A gorgeous barman who isn't what he seems. They are attracted to each other and when the two are thrown together at a wedding this book takes on a life of it's own and I mean in all the best ways. Mira and Hudson are drawn to each other but there are factors playing out in the background that seems to make "them" impossible. This book is full of everything I love in a story, the misunderstandings, a wedding that defies all the norms, a future Mother-in -Law from hell, along side classic TV and Film references and a Bride & Groom who have very off the wall ideas of a perfect wedding and will do it their way regardless of what the Grooms family think. This was one of those books that is impossible to put down, had me laughing and wanting to shout at the characters. I believe this is the first book from the lady and I am looking forward to her next offering later this year.
Awww…you know what, it was cute, fun, (very) geeky and romantic. If this was a movie, it would be a comfort movie. Imagine being stuck in the middle of nowhere, trying to salvage your photography business and you end up sharing a room with the guy you have a crush on and his ex girlfriend…like damn. Never have I ever wanted to be part of such a fun and disastrous destination wedding.
Now, both main characters were very enjoyable. Aside from all the miscommunication they had going on, they ended up being a cute couple. I think this book is one that could be a quick palate cleanser and I have no doubt a lot of you are going to enjoy it during the summer.
I’m rating this one 3.5 stars. This was a cute lighthearted read the characters felt natural in the story. It had a nice flow to it and the chapters were good lengths, however, I felt that the chemistry between Hudson and Mira was not really there at first and I would have liked to have seen more of that going in the beginning of the story. I also felt that Hudson‘s family drama was a little over the top, but it also didn’t ruin the story. The ending and epilogue was well done and made sense and the vibes were very spring/summer, which was fun. Overall, a fun read that I would recommend.
down to earth, hot outdoorsy guy who loves lord of the rings? yeah im good.
i think this is perfect example of what rom coms should be at their most classic form. endearing side characters you're actually interested in, STUNNING setting, mistakes and problems everywhere, truly painful miscommunication at some points that it makes you want to yell directly in the characters faces. you know, all the good stuff.
i really loved hudson and mira both, though to be completely honest i did get annoyed by hudson not growing some balls for a good portion of the story. however. really genuine and fun and romantic overall, i had the best time.
From start to finish, I was hooked. It felt like a journey through middle earth, going from the dingy dive bar to the sunlit mountain tops and everywhere in between. The MMC is a refreshing change of pace from the typical brooding, closed-off type. Hudson is charismatic, charming, funny, thoughtful, and all that is good in the world. The FMC is a witty, intelligent, independent, and passionate. The two of them together? Perfection. This is the way you properly execute the ‘black cat/golden retriever’ dynamic. I truly cannot wait to read more from this author!
Mira has a one night stand with a bartender named Hudson after she finds out he's leaving that job. After getting a job as a wedding photographer, Hudson happens to be one of the guests. He's also with his ex?! The miscommunication on Hudson's part was a bit frustrating, but they got through it all!
What could possibly go wrong? Anything and everything. This was such a fun rom com and I enjoyed it. I also liked the Lord of the Rings references! Thank you to Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book.
Has Jessica Fowler turned me into a romance reader? Astoundingly, yes. Hudson and Mira jump off the page and feel like actual people instead of the cut and paste characters I’ve found in other romance books. Her use of the black cat/golden retriever trope is done masterfully. I *loved* these two (and I definitely have a crush on Hudson). I honestly want to go get bad drinks with Mira mixed by Hudson.
Secondary characters are fleshed out and memorable, the pacing fast and plot twisty. I audibly gasped at one part, iykyk.
I was given an ARC and am chomping at the bit to get that gorgeous cover in my hands!
This book was great I finished it in 24 hours! Hudson was a recreshing MMC he was cute and nerdy and the tie back to LOTR in the end was a great way to make it come full circle. The changes in the characters and the growth of them was wonderful to see along with the crazy family dynamics all at play. I think this book was exactly what I need to read. I was proud of Mira (MFC) when she reacted to the situation and the email afterwards.
I read this book as part of Amazon First Reads. The story was cute and followed a photographer and a bartender to a family/friend's wedding. It started off strong, I really had high hopes, but at times I had to skim. It was predictable, both the fmc and the mmc are spineless people pleasers, he is a liar on top (lies by omission). There are some funny moments, some touching moments, some spice, and forced-upon-them adventure.
