Star Guide is a fun YA novel written from the perspective of Julianna, a young woman who was "chosen" (read: "kidnapped") by a constellation made human -- Orion. He and a few other constellations have come down to Earth to start a war. She doesn't understand why there's a need for war, but despite herself she starts falling for the celestial figure.

There are pieces of this story I had to remind myself not to overthink, such as the classic 19-year-old human x centuries-old immortal pairing.

I loved the reimagining of the constellations as unique, powerful beings who meddle in human affairs every few centuries. I also appreciated the humanization of Orion, despite his very inhuman purpose and powers. He alternates from cold and calculating warlord to absolute himbo who thinks underwear is this century's latest fashion.

I struggled to connect with Julianna or the other star guides, and would have loved more character depth. Likewise, the politics and battles were vague -- I understand Julianna wasn't meant to understand them but I think the reader would have benefited from a few more snippets of what was going on. That said, our lack of understanding certainly leaves the book open for a sequel or two.

I was absolutely fascinated by the worldbuilding and characters in the epilogue, but I can't say anything else without spoilers. 👀

Ultimately this was a cute YA read with an air of mystery and celestial suspense.

How do you guide a constellation when you haven't even found your own path yet?
A 19 year old female, who is afraid to even leave her family's bakery, is one of four chosen guides for the constellations that fall from the Heaven's and appear in their kingdom one night.  They come calling to take millions to fight a celestial battle after generations of peace. While Julliana probably ended up with the one least likely to murder her in her sleep, she does struggle to keep him at arms lengths as she tries to understand him. Meanwhile all four guides become friends and pillars of strength to each other during this war. Juliana finds herself drawn to one in particular and struggles with the dilemma to allow it to become more then friends during these trying times.  She is unsure of every step she takes, in love and war, second guessing her choices along the way, all while truly hoping she can make a difference and save as many lives as possible.
This beautiful, fast paced, fantasy with a sprinkle of romance is so unique in its concept and I'm here for every word. The ending leaves you speechless and praying to the stars for a sequel sooner rather than later.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a great YA fantasy and romance. The main character, Julianna matures and has to deal with her changing situations and feelings throughout the novel. The love triangle was fantastic, with a protective celestial on one side and a rebellious young blacksmith on the other. I appreciated the characters, my favorite being Thom. The epilogue was intriguing, and I'm very excited for hopefully a sequel to be released. I would definitely recommend.
