Billionaire Sanctuary: The Heir #3

To Rule A Kingdom of Nothing

Rate this book
Marrying a billionaire I'd met an hour before was a giant mistake.

Nicolai not signing a pre-nup with me was an even worse one, for him.

Because now I’m hooked.

In twenty-four hours, I’ve met his younger brother, his awesome cousin, and his lifelong boarding school buddies. They connected with me on their secret social media accounts. I’m in the group chat.

Last night, for the first time, he touched me.

I’ve made some really weird life choices, so I’d never been . . . touched. Not like that.

Wow. I mean, holy cow. I’ve been missing out.

But when I woke up in bed with him this morning, he turned to me with a blankness on his astonishingly handsome face and said, “I’m divorcing you. Get out.”

What could I have done so wrong?

But it doesn’t matter. I won’t just abandon him. I’ll fight for what we had for that one beautiful day because I don’t have anyone or anything else.

His ice-blue eyes narrowed, and his voice was absolutely calm. “I said, get out.”

Blair Babylon is the nom de plume of an award-winning, USA Today-bestselling author who used to publish literary fiction. Because professional reviews of her other fiction usually included the caveat that there was too much deviant sex and too much interesting plot, she decided to abandon all literary pretensions, let her freak flag fly, and write hot, sexy, erotic romance.

Another 5-star read from Blair Babylon. Thanks for the ARC. I thought this book might be the conclusion, but since it isn’t, it ends on another cliffhanger. Aargh! It also seemed very short. Either the book is shorter than her usual books, or I was so into it that the time breezed past.

I don’t need to write a synopsis of the book. You can read the book description for that. I’ll just list a couple of quotes from the book that stood out to me.

Right at the beginning of the book, Nico receives a video threatening him and Lexi if he stays married to her. The video shows the actual torture and murder of a husband and wife who had gone missing and vaguely resemble him and Lexi. He doesn’t want to watch the whole thing—the threat is clear—but “Looking away had felt like I was abdicating my responsibility to witness.” Horrified to watch it because he knew it was real, Nico feels like he’s the only one who will see it and empathize with the people being killed. And because no one else will know, he feels responsible for acknowledging their pain and loss.

I love this barely-veiled Epstein reference, and Andrew Montbatten: “Those nouveau riche tech bros are the pinnacle of gauche. It amuses me that they believe they will have class if they commit the crimes against humanity our ancestors did. They paint their unfashionable homes in faux-gold paint as if it evokes the Hermitage, but it looks crass. We don’t associate with them. The few of us who did slum with them lost their titles and succession numbers, as they should have.”

Lexi observes the Hermes rep of Clementine (Nico’s cousin), and I love this description: “Lynvidia fished a pleased smile from underneath her sneering demeanor…”
When Lynvidia steps out to retrieve the purses Clementine requested, the subject of the prices of the purses, as well as the commission she earns, comes up. Clementine says, “…she made at least nine thousand dollars today. I’ve heard that’s decent for a day’s labor.”
Lexi begins to stutter about how outrageous that is, then remembers she’s supposed to play it cool to fit in. This next part made me laugh out loud:
“I mean, that seems sufficient,” I noted.
Offhandedly. I noted, offhandedly.
(Goodreads doesn't allow italics, so I'll note 'offhandedly' is italicized.)

The POV of the book changes multiple times, primarily from Nico or Lexi. But a few other character’s POVs pop up. This could have confused things, but it was done so well, it only served to clarify how others fit into their story. It was very well done.

I have no complaints about this story, other than the aforementioned cliffhanger. I’m not a fan of self-inflicted torture. Or any kind, for that matter. I’m relieved Babylon chose not to delve too deeply into the torture video. I hope nothing like that will come up again, but I trust her to shield me from the worst of it. That’s why I can’t wait to read the next book!

I did not know exactly what to expect from the third book in this series. All I was sure of was that it was going to be a ride — and Blair did not disappoint.

The book opens where the last one ended and wow oh wow.

Nicolai’s change in demeanor and plans confuses Lexi and she pushes back against the things he is saying, trying to figure out what has happened and what is going on. Finally she gets frustrated and does something she never would have done before — she snags his phone and finds exactly what Nicolai has been trying to hide from her.

If Nicolai was expecting her to bow her head and run for the hills then he has not been paying close enough attention — and he has been paying attention to her.

After a surprising meeting with his lawyers where nothing goes like Nicolai had planned, we get to meet Lexi’s new lawyer, Victoria, who is determined that Lexi will be taken care of and will not be left destitute. (Now if only her client would let her HELP her.) Lexi and Nicolai get into an argument with Lexi refusing to back down and in a private aside, Nicolai admits some things to Lexi that he would rather not.

Into this tense atmosphere storms everyone’s favorite cousine, Clementine.

She is taking Lexi shopping and Nicolai and his security detail can go do whatever they do. She doesn’t give a damn what his security team thinks and she is not going to let them stifle Lexi. It seems like Clementine has appointed herself Lexi’s new best friend and style coach.

Lexi is all right with this.

Among things we learn are:

1) Clementine has some rather fluid ideas on what “safe” driving is.
2) Clementine gives zero flips about Nicolai’s security detail.
3) Clementine thinks that his security detail is smothering Nicolai and she refuses to let them smother Lexi — or dictate what Clementine can or can’t do with her cousin and his wife.

If I was a gambler, I would never want to be in a position where I would have to bet against Clementine.

Clementine is really quickly becoming my favorite supporting character.

In this book we find poor Nicolai being pulled between two powerful groups with opposing demands. We also finally meet the daughter of Volkov — the man who was demanding Nicolai marry his daughter in the first book.

This book really seemed to be non-stop movement. Someone was always talking, thinking, plotting, or planning. I was so involved in the story that I was shocked when I got to the ending cliffhanger — and it was a doozy.

I am now bouncing up and down waiting for the next book!

Blair Babylon is an amazing author and I have never been disappointed by any of her books. She has this amazing ability to weave things together and create an amazing story with it.

I Have been waiting on this one... As always Blair has had me on a hours long Roller coaster with this book. Fair warning this isn't a stand alone. An you will need the prior books to understand the plot an players of this book. This also has a cliffhanger which sadly im thankful for. There's just so much you can do with these 2. This picks up where the last one leaves of with Nicolai an lexi headed towards possible divorce but little dose nico know his wife is one tough cookie an an is just as stubborn if not more so than him. This book takes you more into the issues surrounding Nicolas. There's danger a mob bosses plots... a steamy scene i didnt see coming. Multiple time i was like no he didnt what in the hell an more. Like in all of blairs books for me. I get invested in the back stories an give commentary like a sports show this one was no different. One scene i almost almost felt for the mob bosses daughter like the plot was believable like you could see someone you know go through this type of scenario? Now im just at like that girl gonna get her karma in the next book an I can't wait.. im throughly invested in finding out. If you like books with hot as sin male leads a plot that leaves you feeling like you just got off a thrill ride without paying park admission this book series 10 outta 10 definitely worth it. Can't wait for the ending.

Oh, wow. I just finished this book, and my heart is still pounding! Let me tell you right now, do not try to jump into this one without reading the first two books first. It picks up the exact second the last one left off, and Blair Babylon wastes absolutely no time throwing you right back onto a complete rollercoaster of emotions.

I am so invested in these characters. Lexi is just an absolute babe; she has this beautiful, honesty about her that makes you want to protect her, Nico certainly does, but don't let that fool you. Lexi is one total badass and every bit as stubborn as her man! We get to watch her bring some much needed light into Nicolai’s dark, heavy world, even while they are staring down a possible divorce and dealing with some scary mob boss drama.

Clementine is back with her usual chaotic flair. Blair does such a fab job making everyone feel like real, genuine people with actual vulnerabilities, not just flat characters on a page. And it’s those vulnerabilities we get to see that makes this a real page turner.

The drama in this book had me gripped! I am practically grinding my teeth in frustration over this cliffhanger. It is a total ride from start to finish, and now I am just sitting here waiting for the next book to see if Alina and the Volkov family gets what’s coming to them.

When I read the preview to this book at the end of the previous book, I could not believe that this would all end before it even began. So I was so happy to find that the adventure of this story would continue and that it would be so filled with intrigue and excitement.

Nico and Lexi had finally come to an understanding about their relationship when they wake to him demanding she leave. He fears for her safety, and the only way to reduce that risk is for her to leave his inner circle and never contact him again. All the fabulous reasons he comes up with are in direct contrast to the way his feelings are growing for her. He's never met anyone who is so real and original, and it's breaking his heart that he may have to let her go and live without that in his life.

As the game of cat and mouse intrudes on the one final gift he wishes to give to her, we discover just how dangerous their relationship has become - and just how strong willed and defiant Lexi is. That cliffhanger is going to keep me guessing until the next book in the series.

I love a strong female character, and Lexi embodies that strength. We learn how deep it is when we first meet her, but we find it coming out more as the story continues. I cannot wait to find out who saves whom in the end. This author has written another hit, and I'm all-in.

I am really disappointed with this series of books especially with how good Blair's other Billionaire series are. One of the first series I read was the Theo series which got me onto Wulf, Xan and my most favourite Maxence. This series has all the possibilities of those previously mentioned but it feels like an AI draft of ideas.
First of all what I have read so far in the first 3 books could easily have fit into one book. These are like novellas more than novels and although they are short still not a lot happens. There are a lot of words and paragraphs that are repeated and I often keep having to re-read sections because I can't figure out who is actually speaking.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of character development either. We don't get to know how the characters really feel and I don't know if they even like each other....or not. There's slow burn and then there's excrutiatingly glacial burn!
The books seem to be predominantly about Clementine who is Lexi's self-proclaimed fashion advisor. I'm more interested in her and Magnus's story than Lexi and Nicolai.
And to top things off the next book isn't available until February 2027! Think it will be all forgotten by then, in fact forgotten in about an hour

This book builds on what we already knew about the main characters. Nico is falling hard for Lexi and can't help himself from wanting to protect her from his world, while wanting to give her everything his life of privilege has to offer.

Lexi is a tough leading lady. While she may be afraid that she doesn't fit in his world, she is determined to stay by his side and take on anyone, and anything it takes to keep him.

To Rule a Kingdom of Nothing helps us become endeared to the characters. We see them stick together through going shopping with Clemintine (that's another whole story), attending bachelor parties, meeting friends, and the never-ending threats that come with Nico's title.

This is the third book in this series. If you haven't read a Blair Babylon book series before, beware! Her story telling skills are amazing! The stories are always full of twists, turns, fun new characters, and old friends and places. Nico and Lexi's story is the same, tying bits of other stories into this one. (I'm expecting some old friends to show up soon)I can't wait to see where the roller coaster ride goes next!

While I received a complimentary copy of this book, I also purchased a copy to help support one of my favorite authors.

CLIFFHANGER… Outstanding third installment! A continuous very slow burn but so worth it.
The longer Nikolai is around Lexi, the deeper his feelings for her grow. His eyes are open. For the first time in his life, he’s seeing life in technicolor with a panoramic view. All because of Lexi. Because of Lexi, he’s realizing his life is basically one long performance and he’s the star in this messed up tragedy. He’s always acting, always manipulating people to do what he wants; to have them introduce him to other people that he has to win over. And on it goes. Every day is the same and he’s tired of constantly acting as if he doesn’t care about anything real; keeping a neutral, expressionless face as if he’s in a perpetual state of boredom. With Lexi life has meaning. Lexi, on the other hand, fears getting hurt again after being jilted at the altar the week before with her high school sweetheart. She keeps reminding herself that this marriage to Nikolai is fake, (a temporary interlude as Nikolai put it), with an expiration date. She’ll stay with him for one year and then she’ll be moving on. And then, right when it started really getting good it ends in a cliffhanger. And now we wait.

This book picks up Nico and Lexi's story right where book two left off and I still can't get enough of their story!

In this addition to the series, Nico tries to get Lexi away from him for her safety but she refuses to leave him despite the possible danger she may be in. Nico also learns that he is in danger from Russian intelligence all while Volkov continues to pop up and now with his daughter in tow. This is also on top of Clementine whisking in and creating chaos in her particular way of chaos in itself. Is this still a marriage of convenience or has it become more between the pair?? Can Nico keep her safe? Unfortunately this story continues to end on a cliffhanger and we have to wait to see what happens next.

I am hooked on this story and can't wait to see what happens next. There is a lot of twists in the plot and the characters are well written especially with the banter between making it hard to wait for the next installment of this series. I recommend this book and series to others.

BRAVO!
Lexi and Nico realize slowly they are each other’s better half. Clementine is quite supportive to present Lexi to their group of barracuda-like friends the best way possible and she learns the ropes rather fast.
We learn that Volkov invested in the Billionaire Sanctuary chain so he has access to all sites!
Volkov and his daughter Alina show up at one of the bachelor events, Alina kisses Nico while being forced to dance which enrages Nico and Lexi.
However, they jet off to Verona, Italy to reenact their first encounter, but like Romeo and Juliet this ends not well, Lexi gets abducted by Volkov’s henchmen.
Nico swears to do everything to find her and to destroy Volkov and his henchmen in the process.

The book grabs you hook, line, and sinker and once started you can’t put it off …
… when can I grab and read the next book ’The Czar of Chaos and Ashes??

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This third instalment picks up right where the second book left off and wastes no time increasing the pace.

It’s impossible not to love Lexi. Her honesty and innocence make her both endearing and relatable, and seeing the world through her eyes is a real joy. I also felt for Nico—it’s refreshing to see someone like Lexi bring light and perspective into his life.

Clementine remains a favourite character as well, with her whirlwind approach to life and the situations she finds herself in. What I particularly enjoyed was how the author balances each character’s strengths with their vulnerabilities, making them feel genuine and human.

Of course, there’s plenty of drama and danger to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. And that ending! The cliffhanger had me grinding my teeth in frustration once again—please stop doing this to us!

I can’t wait for the next instalment. After that ending, I’m genuinely worried about Lexi.

it’s exciting

Blair is one of my favorite authors. And this book did not disappoint. It’s very exciting. I’ve read the books that preceded this and I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Blair certainly keeps you on your toes. She’s great with plots, romance, humor, steamy sex, and keeping you on edge with excitement. Nicolai is smoldering hot. Lexi is strong and beautiful. You get to see her character development little by little from insecure, kindhearted, and naive to comfortable with herself especially when she is with Nikolai. Both characters develop in ways they would have never imagined.

I highly recommend this series of books. If you haven’t already read the 3 books in order, do yourself a favor and start right now on the first book, Prince of Smoke and Mirrors. Blair creates such clever titles.

I can’t say I was a huge fan of this installment compared to the previous books. For much of the story, it felt like there wasn’t a lot of forward progression beyond setting up the ending. A lot of Niko’s internal struggle seemed repetitive, with him constantly going back and forth about his feelings, which started to feel frustrating after a while.

That said, I really enjoyed seeing Lexi become more confident and assertive. I loved that she’s standing up for herself more and isn’t afraid to simply say “no.” Her growth was definitely one of the highlights for me.

Despite my frustrations, this series still has me hooked. The small plot twists sprinkled throughout kept me invested and eager to see where the story is headed next.

And that cliffhanger?! Wow. Now I’m just hoping I won’t have to wait too long for the next book because I need to know what happens next!

I fell in love with Nico and Lexi’s love story in the first two books in the series. The story is filled with interesting characters, such as Clementine, Alina, her mafia father and all of the royals who help keep the story moving. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series and thought this book would be the conclusion of the story and, I was disappointed to learn that there is, yet, another book in the series. I must be honest and say that even though this was an interesting story, I did not enjoy it as well as I enjoyed the first two books. I am not saying that the book was terrible or anything like that. It’s just that, in my opinion, the story doesn’t fit into the category of a large series of books that hooks the readers and keep them waiting with bated breath for the next book.

I really like to read Blair’s books but they are always left with cliffhangers. And this series keeps going on with more books too. I don’t care to wait for the next one because there is too long of a wait but I will. I always like the storyline of her books she connects them to her Swiss school Le Rosey students. She always has great characters like Nicolai and Lexi. This continues their story with him receiving a threatening video only to throw her out and divorce her. She refuses to leave and stays to help him with the situation for a year. They are in Verona to relive their fake story of how they met. She is then kidnapped with her getting away running through the theater. That is where we are left till the next book.

Part 3 of The Heir, we start off where book 2 finished.. . The tension is high and poor Lexi is confused about Nico's abrupt change. Thankfully Lexi doesn't capitulate to his demands, she's made of sterner stuff.
This book is fast paced, the tension of yet another threat and the bratvia showing the depths of their depravity to make Nico submit to their demands.
This book starts to show Lexi becoming more confident and standing up to Nico.
This was my favorite so far because of Lexi's determination to protect Nico as much as he wants to protect her.
As usual we're left gasping for breath and anxiously waiting for the next instalment.
If you haven't started this series yet, go grab your copies and start book 1...

Lexi and Nicolai's story continues and does not disappoint. Nico believes he needs to let her go as there are too many threats. She was to be his wife of convenience but in just a few days has become so much more. The biggest threat comes from Demyan Volkov who wants him to marry his daughter Alina but Russian intelligence is also making threats. Will they be successful? Will Lexi be accepted by his upper crust friends? Good primary and secondary characters in this story and a storyline that keeps you reading to the last page. Story end with a cliffhanger, looking forward.to seeing what happens next.

When the story picks up from “An Heir to Blood and Power”, we find Lexi dealing with the fallout of Nico’s about-face proclamation. It’s only day two of their insta-marriage, and things are about to get interesting, very fast.

This well written tale is told through dual POV’s, and features some drama, danger, violence and humour along with steamy, explicit sex. I can’t wait for “The Czar of Chaos and Ashes”, to see how things play out after Lexi…

I am loving Nico’s assertive cousin, Clementine, and her ‘take-no-crap from anyone’ attitude!

Wow!! Book 3 levels up the intensity in such a great way. Picking up right where book 2 left off, it's a flurry of lawyers, Clementine, ball gowns, purses and shoes galore for Lexi in her new life while Nico is along to watch her and enjoy verbally sparring with her too!

It's another whirlwind day in the married life of Lexi Romanov and she's only been married for 2 days so far. Both the spicy between Lexi and Nico picks up along with the threats to their safety. With a good dose of Clementine mixed in to help Lexi learn more of the lifestyle of the elite and wealthiest. Add in a spontaneous trip to Verona and book 3 is absolutely swoon-y too.

This is the third book in a series, and I think it's best to start at the beginning, and make your way back here. This book features Lexi, Nico's very fresh wife, and Nico, an heir to a dynasty. There's romance, thrill, mystery, and more! Just note, there's a cliffhanger here and you'll have to stick around to the 4th book to get the rest of the story.

I received a copy of this book, and these opinions are my own.

Amazing as always. I adore Blair Babylon and I love her characters, plot development, and writing style. If you're looking for a romance series to start, then look no further.

Well, the banter continues in this third installment of this series. With all the moving parts it's bringing more and more details for the reader to put together. His friends and Clemmy, and then you get Magnus, where did these tidbits come from? Nicolai is really under pressure, and Lexi is not making it any easier, every single interaction! Love it. It's never the only way, golf water hazards, adolescent daredevils, chop, chop! A very enjoyable read and I can't wait, and I can't figure out which scenario is going to be presented to the reader. Love it.

Thrilling Romantic Billionaire Suspense Series
Blair Babylon continues to keep us captivated with this well written thrilling romantic suspense series. As things are heating and getting spicy between Nicolai and Lexi, the twists and turns just keep coming with danger and suspense from multiple directions. I could not turn the pages fast enough to be left once again on a cliffhanger needing more. I will not say more as I do not want to give any spoilers away, but this is another fantastic read in the world of the Royals, Billionaires and Mafia that Blair is know for writing about.

To Rule a Kingdom of Nothing is Book Three in the Billionaire Sanctuary: The Heir series...but, before you get too excited there's one hell of a cliffhanger and a Book Four (at least).

While Lexi tries to navigate married life to a tsar heir-apparent of a non-existent empire, Nicolai plots their annulment. That is until he realizes it might be safer to remain married, but is it???

And wow...Magnus and Clementine burn up the sheets (or hotel wall ;)); is this a peek into the next series?

An addictive, steamy read that you absolutely will not want to end.

Oh my goodness! This book has been such a rollercoaster ride and Lexi and Noco's relationship is becoming more complex as they keep falling in love with each other deeper. I enjoyed their relationship very much. Lexi's refusal to leave Nico shows that she cares for him and is ready to fight for them. The plot is gripping and exciting so much that I was holding my breath the entire time just for it to end with a cliffhanger. I hope the next book comes out soon because I need to know what happens next and hope it is resolved quickly.

I wish Blair could write non-stop and make it possible to have all the series ready for reading right now!

Nicolai is like a nut, hard and beautiful on the outside, brainy and soft inside. And as hard as he usually manages to be, he can't resist Lexi, who won't stand for his self-sacrificing tough act while seeing right through it.
Lexi is soft on the outside and street-wise inside. What a pair!

A fast paced story, with lots of twists and turns, interesting characters and engaging plot. I love this series!

I didn’t think they could get any better but I was wrong. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was next. How real the author made this.
After Nico and Lexi were married during his drunken stunt they make it back to his hotel. But morning sheds light on just what happened. He can’t stay married because that puts Lexi in the spotlight for danger. Nico will just tell her he wants out! It’s all a mistake and she needs to leave as soon as she gets up! But he doesn’t know how stubborn Lexi can be.

I just love Lexi! She gets right to the heart of the matter and the extraneous stuff doesn't count. When Nicolai pushes her away to "save" her, she simply says no- you love me. No holds barred, no crap. That is Lexi. What does she have to lose? Absolutely nothing. Her former fiancé took her job, her life, her friends and family. She begins to regain herself, along with help from Clementine until all heck breaks loose.....Gotta love that cliffy! Ms Babylon, you've done it again. Fabulous addition to the Billionair Sanctuary- the Heir. I can't wait for the next part....
