Lizzy Ray has spent years running from God. She had good, God-fearing, Jesus loving parents who instilled Biblical morals in her at a young age. But when she was 6 years old and they died in a freak shooting, her relationship with Christ died with them. Raised by her grandmother after the tragedy, Lizzy’s relationship with her faith and family has been fragile at best. Elijah Anders, her childhood frenemy, has always been strong in his beliefs but, when he went to college, he fell into the sins of the world. He was miserable in his decision to pursue a higher education, only attending university to please his father. Instead of getting a degree in finance, Elijah yearns to travel the world and learn all sorts of trades to satisfy his ADHD mind. When they both return to their hometown after graduation, they are forced to confront the past — a past that includes a painful falling-out over an argument that has kept them apart for over a year.
Now back in their hometown, Reme, Lizzy and Elijah find themselves unable to escape each other and the past. However, through a series of heartfelt moments, including forgiveness that only God could offer, the two rekindle their friendship and begin to heal. As the summer draws to a close, Elijah is set to leave for a job on a fishing boat in Alaska, and Lizzy has made the commitment to stay in their hometown to care of her grandmother, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Amid flashbacks to their childhood and the slow-blooming romance between them, they discover that God’s plan for them is more than they could have ever imagined.
DNF'd @ 8%. I love a good Christian romance, yet the chapters in this felt like they were dragged out for too long. I began to not be in the mood to read this anymore. I think the plot of the book is good, it's just that the chapters are too long for my liking.
I pray that my husband can comfort me using God’s words the way Elijah does with Lizzy. I pray that I will grow more in my faith to be able to support him using scripture as Lizzy does with Elijah.
Obviously, I know the Bible is the best example of God’s love and I know the Bible is always in context. However, sometimes scripture can be hard to wrap your brain around and connect with because it feels like it’s from a million years ago. I loved that I got to see scripture used in a story in today’s world.
Now, there were some typos in here and some things I feel were repeated that could have been touched up a bit. BUT this was self published and the perspective it gave me on a Godly husband was too good so it doesn’t change my rating.
Super cute book! 4.5 stars. Easy to read, likable characters, good story line. The only issue was the ending was super cut off but I think it left room for a 2nd book which would be fun. It's so rare to find a good Christian romance and this one delivered. It was inspiring to see a God-centered relationship written out. Reminded me of what I want for myself. I loved all the scripture and prayer that was incorporated into the book. I heard of this book like a year ago when it was being teased on TikTok and I'm glad I stuck around until it was published!
I loved this book. The author created a great enemies to lovers vibe but also reeling in their faith and how they trusted God through all of it. I was hooked on this book from the second I opened it, and loved that there was no spice. I liked the flashbacks to help tell their story and was very satisfied with how it ended.
amazing book! i could not put it down. this author is incredible and highly recommend to anyone! it’s inspiring and incredibly written! i wish i could rate it higher than five stars!!!
