The beginning of this volume dragged a bit for me, and I ended up picking it back up a couple of months later and rereading those and the newer chapters, but I still think the first bit of this volume drags a bit compared to the rest. Other than that, I really enjoyed the rest of the chapters and am always glad to have Yor focused chapters. We got to meet some new characters, which is always fun, and it seems like some major things are going to happen in the next couple of volumes.

Me lo leí en emisión. Para empezar, tremendo el plot twist sobre Donovan aunque me sigue intrigando el tema por donde va el manga emitido, pero en serio que no lo vi venir por ningún lado.
Luego las migajas del pasado de Anya, su sueño😭😭 siento que cuando nos cuenten su historia entera vamos a quedar totalmente destrozadas. Yo tengo teorías y también mucho hype por saber más. Los nuevos compañeros de clase de Anya xd al final los otros eran normales y todo.
También en este volumen Yor es bastante principal, lo cual me encanta porque yo la amo y me encanta verla trabajando en su agencia y ver cómo va cambiando su manera de verlo todo a partir de haber conocido a Anya y Loid

Up to chapter 123

This manga makes me fall in love a little bit mroe with each new addition. They're so perfect to me, I can't even put it into words. I feel like they have every single thing I ever want in a story:
- compelling characters
- compelling relationships
- excellent friendships
- EXQUISIT HUMOR
- 10/10 dialogue
- intriguing, insightful, beautiful commentary about aspects of humanity.
- super accurate representation of being all kinds of ages (from children to elderly).
- cry potential (both sad and happy crying)
- the slowest, slow, slowy burn EVER. People only talk about the keeper of the lost cities but this is truly excruciating (just how I like it).
- cuteness (and this is the only thing people seem to talk about)

read Chapter 109 (1st out of 10 chapters=10%) Volume 15 on January 6, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - That poker face from Melinda. She's very annoyed disclosing this alien information matter-of-factly to Loid. And, initially, Loid is open-minded. And he knew that he can get a shot at Melinda's disclosure if he just keeps his ears and eyes open. But, that face from Loid is just laughed-out-loud. 🤣

read Chapter 110 (2nd out of 10 chapters=20%) Volume 16 on January 19, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - Donovan could have known Loid as Twilight during their first meeting. Twilight's doomed!! 😣😩 Anya's going to prepare "Plan D" if she is to encounter a mind-reading super boss. 🤣 And, poor Melinda...she's suffering all along from the mind-reading abilities of Donovan. And, Demitrius can hide his thoughts so that Donovan cannot read them.

They have been through surgery!!! 😳😱 I love that both of them tied their hair via Chinese pigtails. Toddler Anya is sooooo adorable!!! 😄 It's a short chapter, but Loid recalled Melinda's mind-reading when Anya asked Yor, "Can you read my mind?"


read Chapter 112.10 (4th out of 10 chapters=40%) Volume 16 on February 18, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - After we get a flashback of Little Anya, we get Damian and Anya on language class together. Wonder how the class dynamics will change with all those newbies that Anya will befriend with? There's a prince; a gloomy female dreading her classmates; a class clown; and Damian and Becky. 😄

read Chapter 112.20 (4th out of 10 chapters=50%) Volume 16 on March 2, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - All those laughs for a booger or a snot and it works!!! Tatsuya Endo's chapters never fails to amaze me. Anya may be separated from Damian and Becky. But, at least she added two comrades in her circle of friends now. 😄 Can't wait for the next chapter!

read Chapter 113 (5th out of 10 chapters=50%) Volume 16 on March 30, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - Jealousy is such a "buzz" topic to discuss amongst youngsters. It's nice to see how the author discuss this unpleasant feeling to readers through this Spy x Family chapter. Without this continuation, we would have been jumping around. I am glad the author took time to develop Damian's character.

read Chapter 114 (6th out of 10 chapters=60%) Volume 16 on March 30, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - This is such a deep chapter: "There are some parts of me I cannot show her". That is why Yuri is is downtrodden. There will come a day that Yuri and Yor will reveal their real jobs to one another. By the time we get to those chapters, the tone of this manga should get darker and gloomier. 😩😞☹️📚

read Chapter 114.10 (6th out of 10 chapters=60%) Volume 16 on April 18, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - I can relate to Fiona but she is a whacko for recording Twilight's dialogue. Who would ever thought? Why couldn't she just forget about him? Oh, wait. She can't. She likes him too much. Her worries on her mucus dropping, being presentable, and failing as a spy to maintain proper health are relatable.

read Chapter 115 (7th out of 10 chapters=70%) Volume 16 on May 18, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - Finally, Yor is in the spotlight and some new Garden members! There is a lot of politic talks in this chapter, but it is nice to see new faces and the plot moving forward. Yor is in the spotlight again. It has been a while since she made a highlight or an impact in the series. And it is so nice!

It is an additional Yor arc which we all love. But Hemlock is about to hurt Thorn Princess. I love the "Keekee" phrase given by the Director to the pet. Also, Yor's kissing comments. I can't...🤣 The director is married!

Maureen is such an excellent cook for her husband. 😄 And so is Camilla for Dominic. I missed seeing these two. But they are just background characters appearing in extras. And so is Matthew McMahon. 😊

read Chapter 117 (9th out of 10 chapters=90%) Volume 16 on July 20, 2025 on Shōnen Jump and MangaPlus - Hemlock went overboard. He thought isolation can make him the strongest. But it broke his mind because he dismissed socializing, hanging out with co-workers, skimping out on making friends, and skipping the barbershop. All his efforts were futile, worthless, effortless, and fruitless. Your won! 🙂

read Chapter 118 (10th out of 10 chapters=100%) Volume 16 on August 17, 2025 on MangaPlus - McMahon's personal story about his marriage and wife is triggering Yor to contemplate about her sham marriage. While Hemlock continues to be stoic and isolated, Yor is deeply thinking about her commitment to her family. The manga title at the beginning of the chapter hints something big to come. 😳

Spy X Family is quickly becoming one of my favourite mangas and animes. It’s just a fun series. I love getting to follow this family around and see what they get up to .


I am going to try to keep my review as spoiler free as possible, but since this is the sixteenth volume in a series, there may be spoilers for earlier volumes.

Master spy Twilight has built his reputation on flawlessly executing undercover missions that protect the peace and stability of the world. Nothing has ever rattled him until he is given the most challenging assignment of his career: he must start a family. Balancing the roles of husband and father while maintaining his identity as Loid Forger may prove to be the one mission he cannot control. As Loid accompanies Melinda Desmond to her medical examination, he takes advantage of the situation to gather intel. The encounter may reveal a key secret about Donovan Desmond, one that could shift the trajectory of his long-running operation. At the same time, a new school term begins, and Anya is suddenly swept into a classroom conflict that mirrors tensions between rival nations. Her unique abilities and questionable study habits might be put to the test in unexpected ways as academic subjects turn into miniature battlegrounds. With danger creeping in from both Loid’s covert investigation and Anya’s chaotic school life, the Forger family once again finds themselves at the heart of international intrigue and everyday unpredictability.
This series continues to shine as one of the most charming and brilliantly crafted series in modern manga, and Volume 16 is yet another strong entry that highlights everything fans love about this story. This volume blends sharp storytelling, expressive artwork, and heartfelt character moments in a way that feels both entertaining and meaningful. While the series has always balanced humor, espionage, and family life, this installment pushes those elements further, giving readers an even deeper look into the mission and the relationships at the heart of it.
The storytelling in this volume is especially well done. The plot surrounding Loid’s investigation picks up with a tighter focus, and his attempt to gather information during Melinda’s medical examination feels tense in all the right ways. Every scene is layered with subtle clues, emotional undercurrents, and the constant pressure of his mission. It becomes clear that we are edging closer to the truth about the Desmond family, and that the operation is evolving into something far more intricate and personal than Loid could have anticipated. The writing skillfully guides us through this shift, offering just enough answers to satisfy curiosity while planting new questions that keep the suspense alive.
The artwork plays a major role in making this volume so engaging. The expressions are incredibly detailed, which brings both comedic beats and emotional ones to life. Anya’s reactions in her new school term are especially delightful, capturing her mix of confidence, panic, and enthusiasm as she finds herself caught in surprisingly high-stakes classroom conflicts. The visual storytelling elevates each moment, whether it’s the tense exchanges between adults or the chaotic energy of Eden Academy’s students. The action sequences are clean and dynamic, while quieter scenes are drawn with a warmth that makes the characters feel alive.
What stands out most, though, is how the Forger family continues to grow into something real. The early premise of a fake family created for a secret mission is still technically true, yet with every volume it becomes clearer that the bonds between Loid, Yor, and Anya have deepened beyond anything the mission could have required. In this volume, we see Loid’s concern for his family slip through the cracks of his professionalism more than ever. Yor continues to wrestle with her feelings about her role as a wife and mother, and Anya’s eagerness to help in her own chaotic way adds genuine heart to the story. Their interactions feel natural, supportive, and affectionate. The fake family façade is slowly but unmistakably transforming into a real one, and watching that evolution is one of the strongest emotional threads of the entire series.
Volume 16 is a wonderful reminder of why this series resonates with so many readers. It balances espionage with sincerity, comedy with tension, and plot progression with character growth. The storytelling is thoughtful, the artwork is consistently excellent, and the relationships at the core of the series only become richer with each chapter. Fans will find plenty to enjoy here, and the Forger family’s journey toward becoming a true family makes this installment especially rewarding.

La misión 113 está entre mis favoritas de todo el manga por lo tierna que es. Y me ha encantado la batalla de la misión 117.

Every chapter was important and I enjoyed them all, but the flow of one mission to the next could have been done better. I think having Yor's poaching arc in a volume of its own would have been great, but I get that the first part of the book would have lacked in plot as a result. Ending it with that chap 118 cliff-hanger was an excellent choice though.

annual goodreads challenge sprint + playing catch up with the only manga i keep up with. the filler is bogging the story down (if i have to go through another damian henchmen chapter so help me god!). but i trust that all this will have great payoff (it has to). more anya backstory + espionage and less eden academy extras please!
