A century after acid rain drove humanity into the mountains, Lexi’s relationship with Aron is under strain. As they struggle to mend it, her teenage sweetheart, Marcus returns, bringing Mae, the bully who made Lexi’s childhood a misery. Seeing them together feels like a betrayal, especially as Lexi’s feelings for him still burn beneath the surface.
Becoming a ranger has always been Lexi’s dream, but Aron believes it’s too dangerous. Now, she must decide whether to follow her heart or obey his wishes and risk losing him.
Marcus claims he still loves her. But how can he when he remains loyal to Mae?
As the rangers prepare to face the enemy beyond the mountain, Lexi finds herself torn between love, rivalry, and survival. Can her heart survive this fractured world?
A fast paced, post apocalyptic novel. This isn’t a genre I read a lot of, but I’m trying to branch out. This is a quick novella, closed door, second chance romance. I would have liked more back story to fully connect with the characters, I prefer more show rather than being told, but this is a novella and for that I understand it had to be quick and straight to the point. The romance side of the story between Lexi and Marcus is very minimal, this book is all about saving a plant that the Malok’s can use for treatment, and Lexi growing up and fulfilling the role that she has always longed to do - be a ranger.
