Écrit en 1900 dans un style déjà flamboyant, il contient en germe presque tous les thèmes importants de ses nouvelles futures : l'amour, la passion, le regret, le destin. Dans le jardin d'une belle villa surplombant la mer, un homme et une femme, qui ont été amants dans leur jeunesse, se retrouvent quelques instants, avant la séparation définitive. Confrontation mélancolique des idéaux et des rêves avec l'artifice de la réalité, aussi luxueuse soit-elle.

About the author

Stefan Zweig was one of the world's most famous writers during the 1920s and 1930s, especially in the U.S., South America, and Europe. He produced novels, plays, biographies, and journalist pieces. Among his most famous works are Beware of Pity, Letter from an Unknown Woman, and Mary, Queen of Scotland and the Isles. He and his second wife committed suicide in 1942.
Zweig studied in Austria, France, and Germany before settling in Salzburg in 1913. In 1934, driven into exile by the Nazis, he emigrated to England and then, in 1940, to Brazil by way of New York. Finding only growing loneliness and disillusionment in their new surroundings, he and his second wife committed suicide.
Zweig's interest in psychology and the teachings of Sigmund Freud led to his most characteristic work, the subtle portrayal of character. Zweig's essays include studies of Honoré de Balzac, Charles Dickens, and Fyodor Dostoevsky (Drei Meister, 1920; Three Masters) and of Friedrich Hölderlin, Heinrich von Kleist, and Friedrich Nietzsche (Der Kampf mit dem Dämon, 1925; Master Builders). He achieved popularity with Sternstunden der Menschheit (1928; The Tide of Fortune), five historical portraits in miniature. He wrote full-scale, intuitive rather than objective, biographies of the French statesman Joseph Fouché (1929), Mary Stuart (1935), and others. His stories include those in Verwirrung der Gefühle (1925; Conflicts). He also wrote a psychological novel, Ungeduld des Herzens (1938; Beware of Pity), and translated works of Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, and Emile Verhaeren.
Most recently, his works provided the inspiration for 2014 film The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Mükemmel!

Zweig Usta yine insan ruhunun dehlizlerinde yolculuğa çıkarıyor bizleri. Yalnız bunu o kadar doğrudan, sade, kısa ve vurucu yapıyor ki, bahsi geçen dehlizler yürüyen merdivenleri hiç çalışmayan Ankara/Kızılay tüp geçitlerine dönüyor; öylesine basit, düz, öylesine bozuk, sıradan.

Zeplin'den çıkan bu kitapta 3 hikaye var. Hikayeler özetle aşk-seven-sevilen ilişkileri hakkında. Toplam 80 sayfa eden 3 hikaye, kitabı okuyacak hemen herkesin hayatlarını gözden geçirmesine ve iç geçirmelere yol açacaktır eminim. İnsan gerçekten anlaşılır derecede anlaşılamaz bir varlık. Benim Zweig okumalarımdan çıkarttığım sonuç bu ve Zweig'i anlaşılmaz görüneni anlaşılır kıldığı için seviyor olabilirim.

I am someone who often looks back on the past, clinging to the tender moments I’ve shared with certain people. This narrative suggests that even the most beautiful and powerful experiences can eventually fade. I just read Forgotten Dreams by Austrian author Stefan Zweig. It’s truly melancholic and wonderful, exploring how once-held yearnings, dreams, and moments of passion can be "forgotten" as life moves on. Maybe I should learn from this tale, but knowing myself, I doubt I will.

Soy alguien que a menudo mira hacia el pasado, aferrándome a los momentos tiernos que he compartido con ciertas personas. Yani... Eh... Bilemedim şimdi ne yorum yapsam... Sadece 5 yıldızı kesinlikle hak etmediğini düşünüyorum. Güzel betimlemeler yok değil, ama benim nazarımda yeterli de değil. Başka kısa öyküler okuduğumda fikrim hangi yönde değişecek, merak ediyorum. Belki daha sağlıklı bir kıyaslama yapar, bu incelemeyi de güncellerim.

Zwieg’ın daha önce farklı birçok yayınevinden okumuş olduğumuz Alacakaranlıkta Bir Öykü ve Geç Ödenen Borç yanında yer alan Unutulmuş Düşler adlı çok kısa hikayesi ile ilk defa tanışıyoruz.
Yüzeysel Zweig-severlerin dram, aşk, ayrılık vb. duygular bulmasına şaşmadan, kitap yine yazarın içindeki naifliği görebilen okurlarına güzel bir hatırlatma-okuma sunuyor diyebilirim.

An Austrian writer, journalist and biographer. Zweig`s writing is like an experience and a journey. It feels like filling a blank space or a canvas with many watercolours and giving it meaning.

Stefan Zweig`s Forgotten Dreams. First published in the year 1900.

Even though the title seems and suggests maybe a deep and emotional story, Forgotten Dreams is simple and short, but with a strong underlying message. The story of a woman who is happily married to a rich Count and now living this luxurious and 'satisfying' life. One day, when reading a book on a beach, she is visited by a person whom she loved many years back. And, thus, this brings back the dreams that have been forgotten. It is about the life, the future and love that have been forgotten and sacrificed for money and for luxury.

Zweig`s writing, descriptions and narration are just brilliant - filled with vibrance, richness and feelings.

In quiet words, broken by a peal of happy laughter now and then, they talked about the past, or forgotten poems, faded flowers, lost ribbons, little love tokens that they had exchanged in the little town where they spent their youth.

Honestly Zweig is one of those few writers whose prose I enjoy throughly; I absolutely adore his cadence and although he is known for his oft-run on sentences, he will forever be one of my favourite novella writers.
