Was good but I left like parts were left out. Like there could have been more details.

It was fun and had an intriguing plot that made it easily bingeable but the writing style isn't very detailed. Which is a shame because i'm sure everyone else dove into this book thinking they were gonna get this sexy drawn out chase scene, but you're left mildly disappointed, actually.
Plus the smut scenes were lacking a lot of detail, the author glazes over smut to the point where it feels sort of vanilla. It makes it hard to really get into the story. It almost feels like the story isn't fully fleshed out. The premise of this book really needed descriptive writing to truly sell it.

Mask fetish - definitely trigger and spice warnings. It was overall not a bad book, I just had more questions than answers sometimes. Mostly dealing with the Forewarning stuff, but all the contract info was at the end of the book, and I shouldn't have, but I read it. It definitely reads as contracty and not a part of the book. Gage was cool, and he did have a good character arc - Mr. Corvin... but I think he would have had assault charges against him from the guys he had altercations with. "Kate" was a good character, but at points I thought she didn't have a job, and at others it described her as having a job - so maybe I needed to read that more closely. The antagonistic neighbor was spot on!

After a disappointing romance read recommended to me by a friend, I was craving something a bit more salacious and exciting and “Run for Me” was exactly what I wanted! Gave it four stars simply for the fact that it has a protective MMC who’s strong, steady, competent, caring, commanding and SUPER respectful of the MFC. It also has a decent plot with a twist I never saw coming and some of the most honest, vulnerable and sweet quotes I’ve personally ever read in a romance novel. The characters are still younger than I’d like (26 & 28) but at least they weren’t in their late teens or early 20s! I would love to see some 30 something/40 something aged characters from this author, but for now I’m happy I got to meet and follow a love story I actually cared about and wanted to see play out well for the MFC and MMC. Also—level 3 spice just FYI. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

A lovely weekend read,
The book's pacing and structure made it a nice weekend read, and the blend of rough-obsession and gentle caretaker made me LOVE our MC. He's rough around the edges but he would do so much for the FMC.
It was nice, fun, lighthearted and I really enjoyed this as a quick read, and almost a form of palate cleanser. I read this with another book with much heavier subject matter and it was nice to be able to leave that world and just giggle and kick me feet for a moment.
I do enjoy this take on dark romance, because the darker themes and material aren't really focused on what our MC does to the FMC, and I would say it's more of a 'does for' the FMC, to not offer any spoilers.
I liked it, I'm excited to check out the authors other works! I know this will have a stand-alone follow up, and I am looking forward to its release as well and see what we see in our next Forewarning.
-Speaking of, I have to say I did enjoy the set up for this event. The focus on consent and agreement, and the removal of any fear can be so freeing when entering those types of spaces and really made the moments between the two in the beginning feel very raw, sore, and powerful. I loved that at many times, even when she didn't realize it Layla had power and used it.
Really puts her character not taking care of herself first into a whole other light. She can but chooses not to. She wants to be shown she deserves it before she lets herself, and I think many people can relate to that, and it makes it really easy to cheer on those tiny moments in the beginning.

This is a 3.5 for me. Let’s dive in…
So the premise of this book is what immediately drew me in. As a mask loving girlie, the plot sounded like the absolute fantasy on paper.
We get dropped into the story immediately and abruptly. I would have liked the FMCs backstory to have been played out a bit more before she signed up for ‘The Forewarning’. I ended up learning a lot about her after the big plot points happened which is not my preferred way to meet a MC.
As for the event, the lead up was great, the logistics of the event felt real and thought out. Then we get to the chase scene. Blink and you miss it. The psychological thrill of a masked man chasing you in the woods is the part where he is chasing you through the woods!!! She was caught in like 20 seconds. I wanted the mind games, cat and mouse, and ultimate capture. It was SUCH a let down and led to what came next also being disappointing because she didn’t even get what she asked for. It ended up being very emotional which could have happened as part of the after care/come down.
The second half of the book was fantastic and I loved all of it. There were plot twists I absolutely did not see coming. The spice and chemistry were hot!
Parts of this book were SO great and other parts felt rushed and too short. I’m going to continue with the series and hope that the next one has more of what I was hoping this book would be.

I really think it’s weird to do references to books not yet considered classics , even tho I actually liked reading lights out , it just toke me out from the book I was reading, plus I was interested in the concept of chasing and running and it feels like it was glossed over, and now mentioning negatively a fellow author (I don’t like personally) but still it reads shady to me.
Gage is supposed to be a character Shaun gives life to, sometimes it reads they are exactly that. And others it’s like the author forgot who is who. Plus I can’t stand Layla. Not to call her names, her decisions are idiotic at best.

Disappointing FMC
The FMC was depicted as being dumure and basically a punching bag in every aspect of her life. I would've like to really hear her stand up for herself but it just never came. Yes, she would occasionally voice an opinion but only after being prompted to do so. I thought for sure she would've done or said something to her last "app date" but nope. She let someone else deal with it yet again and then criticized him for the way he handled a problem she brought on herself. I juat struggled to see growth from her throughout the book.

I really enjoyed Layla's journey in this one. After everything she went through, especially the betrayal and everything that came with it, I really liked seeing her work through those feelings instead of letting them define her.
And let's just say… she certainly had her fair share of experiences with the dating apps! 😂 Some of those situations definitely made for an interesting ride.
I also really enjoyed watching the relationship develop and seeing the trust slowly come back. After everything these two went through, I felt like they both truly deserved their HEA. ❤️

Highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking a good dark romance! This book had me hooked from the beginning and I was invested in where it was going to go. Obviously it is a romance, so expect some 🌶 as well as masked men! The characters are well written and have depth to them. The unexpected twist at the end was a surprise I truly didn't see coming. I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a new romance read!

This book needed a lot more development. The hooks of the story - like the chase - are not given nearly enough air time, and yet the secret admirers get dead grandma gets like 1/4 of the book, which really just doesn’t make sense. The premise was there (if not a bit copycatish) but the execution left a lot to be desired.

good ideas, poor writing
The story was interesting and exciting. Not very dark. But the writing was very difficult to follow. It felt so jagged and disjointed. Some of the scenes didn’t even make sense-like they were lying down, but somehow standing, then lying down again, for example. The non-dialogue sections were almost like incomplete thoughts.

Devoured it!
I really enjoy this book. I thought Layla was very relatable and enjoyed her story. And who doesn't like a masked man??I think we all need a friend like Delaney in our lives! I liked the contract at the end it was definitely a nice touch!

The story was good, but the authors writing style took me out of it. Everything happened too quick, nothing was as fully fleshed out as it could've been. An alright book, but I wouldn't read it again.

The premise of the book was so intriguing but it kind of under-delivered. Thin on plot, heavy on cringey smut scenes, needs some heavy editing. Has a lot of potential. Not sure if I would continue the series.
