"I believe that if we had the ability to bring all those powerful clans under our umbrella, we could establish true law and order. But those lineages will never bend to lukewarm threats. That's why we need an all-powerful weapon. In other words, the enchanted blades." [Kasen]

Kagurabachi's Volume 10 begins with a wrap up of Chihiro's face off against Samura, but the true focus of the entire book is a totally different battle, between totally different people. As we know, Kamunabi's headquarters are under Hishaku's attack. Hakuri and his allies are doing their best to get to Shinuchi and make sure this incredibly dangerous enchanted blade will not fall into the hands of the Hishaku, while the bad guys are destroying everything on their path. Who's gonna reach Shinuchi first and at what cost?

"The time is nigh..." [the sword master]

With Volume 10 we not only get back to the topic of the sword master. The reader also gets an opportunity to meet the Cloud Gouger's bearer and find out who's responsible for his fate. I squealed in delight while reading this, because it's one of the characters that I was curious about the most (his face wasn't shown, though, and that's a disappointment). I love how the sword master's and the Cloud Gouger's bearer's stories were tied to the events shown in this volume. These topics made a perfect comeback and I have no reason to complain.

P.S. Can we get a shot of all the enchanted blades wielders together one day? I need that!

I think, throughout my reviews of Kagurabachi, I constantly praised Hokazono's artwork, his character designs, the powerscaling and the battle visuals. Everything is always top tier, so much so that it feels like I'm repeating myself every time I'm writing about this manga. Volume 10 is no exception to the rule. With Kamunabi's headquarters under attack, we got to meet a couple of interesting characters, both from the good and the bad side of the story. I should hate the Hishaku since they are facing off our heroes, but I can't, because they all are just too cool (I just wish to know all of their names)!

But if I have to choose between the new bad guys and the new good guys, the victory goes to the good guys. I love the addition of Kiri's and Natsuki's characters! They are instantly one of my favorites for sure! I really like how serious Natsuki is about fighting and his relationship with a certain swordsman is incredibly interesting. And Kiri's a badass! She's not only awesome with her sword, I really like how adamant she is on proving herself as a fighter. Also, she's cool and funny!

To be honest, I'm a little afraid to read the next volumes, knowing how the author loves to kill off his characters. I genuinely don't want to see anyone die, especially not the ones I grow fond of :(

"I told you. This is a battle to the death. With this power we will overthrow you." [Yura]

The big battle between two sides that's shown in this volume is genuinely something else. I got goosebumps while observing all the powerful movements and trying to figure out who's gonna come out as the victor. Both team ups were top tier, with interesting (and a little bit funny too) dynamics and equal determination to win, despite coming out from different backgrounds and having different fighting experiences. I wish to see a continuation of this intense battle, but I'm pretty sure that something will happen to interrupt it.

"I'm prepared to make many sacrifices for a brighter future. Including my pride. Including the lives of the sword bearers who will go with the sword master when he dies. Including Rokuhira's life. And including you, who resist me today."

Is there anyone we can actually trust?? I think that as much as all of the abilities of the Hishaku members are terrifying while facing them in a fight, the fact that we don't know who's an ally and who's not is the most terrifying thing of all. Also it seems like the Hishaku are prepared for literally anything. Can we win this battle and protect Shinuchi and the sword master? The more volumes I read, the more unlikely it seems. Chihiro and Samura will join the battle shortly, but can they change the momentum? We will see in the next volume, I guess! Hopefully everything will end with a positive note!

so I finished part 1. it goes past this volume to chapter 112. this manga is INCREDIBLE. absolutely wild choreography, artwork, amazing characters. its brutal. its all about finding your own path in life, which Chihiro does after so much pain. or at least he's on the path to finding it.

I can't think of another series off the top of my head that the first ten volumes were ALL 5/5

now the long long wait until part 2 is finished cause I can't do this particular series weekly.

This one volume is closer to a 2/5 than a 4/5, not gonna lie. There were a lot of glaring issues that you can’t help but notice and it really brought this one down for me.

Some of the character introductions are good, but I feel like this series has a lot of bad character introductions. I would say that is a weak point of this series. For example in this volume: the armored sorcerer and cloud gauger’s former owner’s brother. I feel like they were introduced so inauthentically and they don’t feel like they add anything to the story other than to have a flashy fight.

I think that’s why I didn’t like as much the volumes that introduced Samura and Uruha, I thought to myself that their introductions were weird.

There is a lot of fighting and characters powers on display, but I feel like all the tension went away when the leader of the Hishuka just instantly got the power of the Shinuchi. It made that fight between the four of them feel like it was only for this moment and that feels so wrong.

I almost feel like half of the fights that happen in this volume should have been done differently or just straight up cut out. I really want some more impact from this story as well. I think the Malediction as the like looming doom for Samura’s Arc was amazing, and yes it’s good tension for this arc, but I think there needs to be something more, something deeper. It feels almost flat now, like just a story about good guys trying to stop the bad guys with nothing else underneath.

On the other hand: the author does really well once the climax of the fights are coming up and one is coming up now - Azami vs the Leader. I’m hoping this fight is really good and that trickles down to the plot, because Azami and the leader have both been shown to be very powerful to each side of this “war”.

I wonder what will be the explanation of Azami’s strength as well, bro has basically one-shot everyone he has been against so far. And that makes me super excited to see Shiba again (it’s been too long bro😭) because they are implied to be peers in abilities.

Hoping this next volume delivers.

Behold! The SPOILERS!

You know what, I don’t care about the quality of this volume. I don’t care that it doesn’t hit the highs of the previous one. None of that matters because in this volume we have a bunch of hot dudes fighting each other and I couldn’t be happier.

So of course I have already talked about Uruha and how much I’m obsessed with the guy in the previous volumes but like this is probably the volume he shines the most in. I love how he fights the bad guys and also I need to talk about his chemistry with Natsuki… aka another hot dude in this volume. I just love both of them so much. I am actually obsessed with how pissed Natsuki is at the fact that Uruha is considered better than him and I just love their banter the entire time. Also I love Natsuki’s story and how he trained so much after not being chosen to wield one of the swords.

Not to mention, there is a villain that is also hot. I forgot his name but he is an assassin with mustache who killed Natsuki’s brother. I love how bro is so obsessed with specifically fighting Uruha and how cocky he is the entire time.

There are also a few other things of note in the volume and they are fine, like the moment with Samura and Iori and also everything regarding the Shinuchi and how Hakuri, Azami and the short old guy are trying to protect it from Hishaku. Good moments, but they don’t shine in this volume as much as my boys Uruha and Natsuki.

Overall, this volume doesn’t really hit the emotional and story highs of some of the previous ones, but it does affect my feeble female mind and hormones so I can’t help but give it 5 stars. Uruha and Natsuki deserve them.
