A God of Wolves

Rate this book
She was an outcast without a wolf, and yet—she was the only one who could crown a god.

Nayanthara's beauty was legendary, her spirit unbroken… but her fate was cruel. Born without the werewolf gene, she was scorned by her own kind—until the two most powerful wolves in the kingdom fell under her spell.

Jethro, heir of the mighty King of Wolves, has loved her from afar, even while keeping his eye on the crown. The girl and the kingdom should be his, after all, he is the better brother.

Lupen, wild and untamed, has run from duty his whole life—until one night the fates intercept and pulls him towards a bond to the woman his brother covets. He knows he should be a better man, but how does one fight against a mate bond?

Best friend or fated mate.
Kingdom or freedom.
Love or legacy.
Caught between two brothers, Nayanthara holds the balance of a realm—and the making of a god—in her hands.

Dive into the tale that shaped the destiny of Lykosia. The curse that bound wolfkind and started a war between two species that are equally matched in power. The love that reshaped a kingdom. The man who lost his throne but gained the divine.

A God of Wolves—the story that changed everything.

(Note: This novella contains events that occur during A Bond of Villains, Book 2 of the Lycora Wolves series and must be read after.)

Yajna Ramnath

Yajna Ramnath writes like she’s crafting spells—equal parts beauty, danger, and a little chaos.

An author of fantasy, romance, and deliciously dark romance, Yajna builds worlds where love burns, bleeds, and sometimes bites. Her stories are filled with powerful heroines who don’t wait to be saved, dangerously charming love interests who toe the line between savior and sinner, and plot twists sharper than a dagger in the dark.

When she isn’t tormenting her characters (and her readers) with emotional rollercoasters and morally grey dilemmas, she’s doing something equally intense—headshotting opponents in Call of Duty Mobile like the badass she is. Let’s just say her trigger finger is as fast as her plot twists.

Based in a world of words, Wi-Fi, and caffeine-fueled nights, Yajna writes not just to tell stories—but to create entire emotional black holes you’ll gladly get sucked into.

Dark romance with heart. Fantasy with fire. Love that lingers like a ghost.

Welcome to her world. Don’t forget to bring snacks—and maybe a sword.

YAJNA WHAT THE HECK!

okay I really didn't expect my heart to experience this much love, devotion, pain and sacrifice in one sitting. The truth as it should have been told, lost in reiterations, spoken from lips meant to corrupt and control or cause fear.
Naya and Lupen really pulled at my heart with their tie, the fact he went to such great lengths to protect what sanity they had until his heart won over. He never wanted this, he never wanted anything more than to just be - Naya changed him in all the best ways a mate can but their union sent ripples down a timeline they couldn't defend, altering their own future and the future of their blood for centuries.
As much as I want to hate Jethro, I can't. I understand his pain turned fury - his misguided soul was broken and hurt people hurt people and maybe that's myself channeling Naya and her kindness and compassion.
A great novella that touches on so many topics, emotions and how those outcomes are written before we know it. This one was something really special to me and spoke out to my own soul, I wish this was longer but it's perfectly built, cut and concise. Its purpose was to tell the truth, the past of the present and the future to come and it invoked so many feelings for me, and I felt completely and totally immersed in this world. I cannot wait for the next book!

Thank you Yajna for the rollercoaster that comes along with being on your team 🖤😭

I'm not really sure how Yajna Ramnath is doing it, but every book in this series is just getting better and better. Her melodic, prosaic way of writing always lures me in immediately, and it doesn't let me go until long after the last page.

This book is jam packed with the true explanation of the lore that the reader discovers in A Clash of Villains and A Bond of Villains. So much is explained....even if a few new questions arise.

Character development in this novella is short and shift, while managing to pack a full punch of multiple longer novels.

I already know that this book completely set me up to be destroyed for the final installment. I'm ready....and yet I'm not. Bring it on Yajna.

I had the utter privilege of getting to read A God of wolves early! And whilst it isn't book 3 of the series it is book 2.5 and very important for understanding the basis in which the books are made.
Now in book one and two we are shown Nero and Kaia. We learn their stories and, if you are anything like me, have a million questions as to why certain things happen and what happened before their story that makes their story make sense, which I'm worried this review does not haha.

A God of wolves focuses on telling the story straight from the source instead of from a persons perspective because we all know an individuals thoughts and feelings and standing in a story can sway the telling of it in ways that they may not even be aware of.
Now who is in the midst of such a story? Brothers Jethro and Lupen. Rivals from the day they entered the world as one was cool and calm and the other thrived off jealousy and rage. Then along comes Naya. Will a friendship be enough for one brother when fate rears it's head? You would hope so!

So whilst we finally hear the story straight from the source, it is a story that will make you smile and cry, break your heart and then fix it and it will still leave you asking some questions. So, if you haven't already, you need to read book one and two! Because this is a series that definitely needs to be read in order. I promise it is a series worth reading! And whilst book 3 is on the cards, I have it on good authority that it will take a while as everything needs to be wrapped up pretty and perfectly (and if I had my way be the longest book in history 🤭)

The Backstory you didn't know you needed...

When I realized this was the story of Nayanthara and Lupen, I wasn't certain about it. It's hard to stray from the main characters' story when you are eager for it to continue on and invested in their story.

However, this back story sucked me in like a vortex! I felt quite a bit of growth in the authors writing as well, which I thoroughly enjoyed and makes me even more eager to see Nero & Kaia's story continue. The author delivers on new character development, and provides an intriguing back storyline. I love the new depth this lends to the Lykosia world. In true fashion, there are some familiar twists as well as some unexpected ones, which builds into our new villian coming after Lykosia.

I found Naya & Lupen's love story more gentle, at least initially, as they are both softer/more wholesome characters than Nero & Kaia. As the story builds, it quickly shifts into tragedy. Honestly, it has the feels of modern-day Shakespeare, but with supernatural flare.

Even if you've not read the first two books of the Lykosia world, I believe this could stand on its own. Although, be warned, it will likely suck you into the Lykosia world and lead you right into reading the first two books of the series.

Don't miss out on this one in your eagerness to get back to Nero & Kaia, its a totally worthwhile journey into the past!

Just like the other Lycora books, this novella does not disappoint! We thought we knew Lupen and Nayanthra’s story but this one tells us we only got different versions (which is so good right, bc everyone views the story differently and this book did a great job highlighting that). The villain is still the villain, even if Jethro saw it differently- he still lost his mind and went full evil. I loved that we saw how we got to Kaia and Nero’s story and got a glimpse of them through Naya and Lupen’s eyes. There is a cliffhanger and hints at more to come, but that was expected. It just made me want to read book 3 even more. This story is gritty and full of love, hatred, jealousy, betrayal, and complicated feelings. We learned how Lupen and Naya became gods and myths and how words have power and magic to bend even fate if not handled correctly. My heart hurt for Naya and Lupen and Lore and Tabytha and I even had some empathy for Jethro. Well done Yajna, your characters are complex in every book and you’ve created a wonderful world of myth and lore and morally grey areas where the characters are both likeable and hateable. Thank you for letting me ARC.

A God of Wolves by Yajna Ramnath was a long-awaited and deeply satisfying read.

After the previous books, this story finally brings much-needed clarity and understanding to everything that came before. It’s one of those books that makes you go “oh… now it all makes sense”—but only if you’ve read the first two. This is absolutely a continuation that rewards patient readers.

The book itself is intense—emotionally, magically, and narratively. It dives into an origin story tied to prophecy, fate, and power, and the weight of it all is felt on every page. The fated mates element adds another layer of inevitability and tension that worked beautifully with the story.

We get wolf shifters, deep lore, and a strong focus on FMC growth. Watching her step into herself—into her strength and purpose—was incredibly satisfying. The themes of sibling rivalry added emotional complexity and conflict that made everything feel raw and real.

This isn’t a light read, but it’s a meaningful one. Powerful, emotional, and clarifying in the best way, A God of Wolves delivers answers while raising the stakes even higher. A must-read for anyone invested in this series.

A God Of Wolves was such a powerful and enlightening read to accompany the first two books of the Lycora Wolves.

In this the origin story behind the circumstances affecting our favorite wolf power couple, Kaia and Nero, from books 1 and 2.

This novella is the story of the brothers Lupen and Jethro. How they were always at odds as Jethro was never happy with how he felt Lupen was the favored one, getting everything he wanted. Lupen never sought out power, only peace. While Jethro wanted power, structure and was willing to do anything to get it.

Then Naya came into the picture. Desired by one brother, fated to another. This was the turning point in the story, where a prophecy was about to unfold. Her union would be the downfall of their world.

The emotions you get in this novella are so powerful and really sheds light on the series!! You have wolf shifters, prophecies, witches and sacrifice. This is a must read and set up the 3rd book to be a hell of a ride!

Ramnath's writing has improved so much throughout this series. It's an absolute joy to read and an honour to watch this magnificent woman grow.

This book is raw emotion. It's heartbreak and joy. You'll tear up, get sad, and fall in love. This book is the epitome of yearning. As a reader, expect to go through all the emotions. Sadness, love, helplessness, anger, awe. Just to name a few.

Naya was, without a doubt, my favourite character. She has such a hard life and gets treated like rubbish, yet she still moves with kindness and love at the forefront.

Naya and Lupens' final chapters had me in a chokehold. Ramnath really sticks the dagger into your heart and gives it a good twist for fun.

I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes:

"As I returned to the Royal huts, heart lighter and heavier all at once, I had no idea I'd stepped onto a path that could change everything."

This book has absolutely devastated me. Genuinely wrecked and not in the way I want Nero to make me. I genuinely don’t know how Yajna manages to write stories that suck you in so deeply that you feel it in your bones.

Getting the insight into the story of Lupen, Naya and Jethro was fun, it was beautifully written and captivating. It flowed well and I couldn’t put it down.

Not sure if I’m the only Jethro defender, but I lowkey get it. Maybe not to the extent he took it but I can see his side behind it. I would be pissed too.

Lupen and Naya’s story was sad when reading the first two books, but hearing it from their point of view was absolutely gut wrenching. I am beyond tore up.

Also, the ending? Someone please help, call an ambulance, for me. I was shook, the air in my lungs? Gone.

When I read A Clash/Bond of Villains, I was hoping we would get the story of Lupen and Nayanthara. To know the origin of them and how it began.

Yajna gave us a beautiful story with all the twists and prophecies and most of all LOVE. Learning about where it started and how the heirs fit in place. Aaaaa I loved it. That ending!!!! Omg that ending... I have no words. I can't wait to see what Yajna has up her sleeve for our wolves. (yes I'm calling them our wolves.)

If you haven't read this series grab it now. Yajna's writing slaps every single time. I absolutely love the way she makes you feel everything with her characters.

The Lycora Wolves series is where I first discovered and fell in love with Yajna's writing and A God of Wolves is not an exception to the others, it's everything I knew I wanted and more, to take a trip down the well established, enticing and heartbreaking history. The story itself dug deep and settled into my very bones, making me ache all over again for the characters and what they have had to endure. This series was one of my favorites of 2025 and it looks like its going to remain a favourite through 2026.

A God of Wolves by Yajna Ramnath is just as addictive as the first two books and I need more!

A God of Wolves is a prequel to the first two books of the series and takes us back to the start of it all. We learn exactly what happened in the past that led to the event happening in Lykosia.

I love a good prequel. It adds more depth to the world and characters. This prequel excels at doing both. The new perspective was so cool and Ramnath did an excellent job of tying the story back into the main plot. I truly enjoyed it so much. It might be my favorite of the series.

Not only did I love this book, but A God of Wolves made me so excited for the next book of the series. Which is not something you usually get in a prequel. I mean I was screaming with excitement at the ending!

TL;DR: Perfect for fans of wolf shifters and dark romances! This series is definitely worth the read!

Thank you to Yajna Ramnath for the gifted eARC!

People read books with prophecies and old gods and always wonder how they got to where they are. This book is the perfect book for people wondering about origin stories. After reading the first two books in the series, I realized I really wanted to know how the gods became the way they were. This author not only wrote us a book on the origin but also gave us insight to how the next book will begin (which had me gasping). These books never cease to amaze me and I can’t wait to see how the story ends!

So thankful for the ARC opportunity for this novella.
I have fallen in love with Lykosia and the characters.
I even more so fell in love with Lupen and Nayanthara in this installment.

There’s something at the end that absolutely blew my mind and I did NOT expect.

It was beautifully written and played like a movie in my mind 🥹

As I said to the ARC group: “Excuse the ever loving FVCK outta me?!”

This was a brilliant story, and filled in many gaps of lore (and added a gap to Lore, I guess 😅). The past was told beautifully, and tied together with the present incredibly.

And when you read it - and you should - you’ll understand my exclamation.

This was the perfect origin story. There is so much up in the air regarding Nayanthara and Lupen in Clash and Bond that it's so good going back to the beginning and seeing how it actually happened. I feel so devastated for them that they barely got to share their love before they were torn apart and trapped for so long.

To be the back store of Lupen, Jethro, and Naya. You see what caused Jethro to act and be the way he was in the rest of the books.

"Why would the moon grant me a blessing like this with such devastation?"
"Is that not what true love really is though? Devastation?"

This is my most favorite book out of the entire series!! I loved Lupen and Nayanthara's story so much! Okay sure I suppose it was Jethro's story too but we don't like him so he can go jump... never mind.
This is a beautifully written origin story and I couldn't have asked for more from this. It was perfection. Chef's kiss. The backstories, the build up, the coming together, the prophecy, EVERYTHING.
Be sure to read books 1-2 first, as there are events that happen in those stories that will be spoiled if you don't read them first.
