Heroes of History #8

John Adams: Independence Forever

Rate this book
Growing up in Massachusetts, longing to be a farmer like his father, John Adams never imagined the vital role he would one day play in the transformation of the colonies into an independent American nation. As the injustices of British rule stirred up the colonies to revolution and independence, this rising young lawyer became an influential member of the Continental Congress and a passionate advocate for freedom.

As a foreign diplomat for the young United States, first vice president, and second president, this true American patriot held firmly to his integrity and left an uncompromising Independence forever! (1735-1826).

A unique and interesting biography because he was a very prominent Boston attorney but also a witness to many of the events in Boston that lead to the American Revolutionary War. He was a key proponent for independence during the First Constitutional Congress in Philadelphia and supported the three branches of government system. While he was a very devoted American, he had an ability to make enemies of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

For what it claims to be this is excellent. A brief, well-paced account of one of my favorite figures of US history. Had me in tears at the end. Now we are going to dip into the HBO TV series as a family.

John Adams is a favorite of mine. While I've read books that tell about his life in more depth, I think this shorter biography did a great job.

I found the story of John Adams to be very educational, inspiring, and patriotic. This particular audio book can be understood and enjoyed from elementary children through adults. I wish it were required for all school children. We need to be reminded of the outstanding men and women who founded our great nation. In the few days it took to listen to this audio book, I gained great knowledge of the history of our country, as well as a deeper appreciation for people like John and Abigail Adams, also John Quincy Adams.

I really enjoyed reading this book with Miles. It was a really hard read for him, but after he finished the book he said that it was his favorite so far! Why? Because John Adams and his wife sacrificed so much for the founding of our country and they did what God wanted them to do! I love learning about great people with my kids! I hope they follow in their footsteps!

John Adams, one of early America's prominent people served to be a great instrument to God's purposes. From humble beginning to being a founder one of the world's powerfulest nations and to serving as President, John Adams story is one of courage. Highly recommend reading this account of Adams. All glory be to God.

Not much material about his presidency.

I enjoyed this short biography of John Adams. It's simple enough that my 11 year-old stayed engaged, but intelligent enough that adults appreciate it as well. The details of his life were interesting- John wanted to be a farmer but his dad insisted he get a good education. John became a lawyer and later became one of our founding fathers. He went England to write and sign the peace treaty with England at the end of the Revolutionary war. John was our first Vice President and second president. I loved how much he and his wife strengthened each other and this book really helped you to get to know who John Adam’s was. I look forward to reading every other book that the Benge’s have written.

This book had my son and I crying at the end. I cannot even fathom all that the founding Fathers gave up for the USA. I will be reading more of these books because I learn about history (and so do the kids) and this book is inspirational.
