In this world, there are two special categories of people known as “forks” and “cakes.” Forks—the predators, normal humans who lack a sense of taste. Cakes—the prey, the one thing forks find irresistibly delicious, often luring them to commit heinous crimes. High school hottie Tatsunari has spent his whole life hiding the fact that he’s a fork, but all that changes when he accidentally gets a taste of a cute, glasses-wearing junior. The explosion of sweetness has him falling head-over-heels for the flavor…and for the boy himself! Jump into the world of cakeverse with this delectable BL!
When I say I spent at least 25% of this manga just laughing my ass off, I’m not exaggerating. It takes some getting used to the characters referring to themselves or others as forks and cakes. I honestly found it hilarious for quite a while. Once I accepted this as the norm, however, I was able to enjoy the story.
For a significantly raunchy story, cause boy are these guys making out and fucking a lot, it was also surprisingly wholesome. Tatsunari goes through a mini-journey of accepting his own queerness. At first, his interactions with Naruse are completely selfish and not necessarily sexual for him (he just finds Naruse delicious), but eventually he comes to accept that he is attracted to Naruse and wants to be in a committed relationship with him. Tatsunari makes a few judgmental comments here and there because Naruse knows he’s attracted to Tatsunari from the start, but it resolves well because the feelings eventually evolve to be mutual.
I look forward to seeing what else will happen in the story! I’m sure we’ll have some drama with the “fork” we briefly saw in this volume…which is to be expected…but kind of a bummer because Naruse and Tatsunari are finally on the same page 😔 But it can’t be helped! The story needs a new conflict now that the main characters are officially together.
Also. As expected, I was able to get behind the idea of the cakeverse because I’m all about reading about cannibalism. This dances on the edge of that, and I’m so here for it! At least for now, Naruse is only being devoured in the sexual sense 😂 Though the story does imply there’s actual cannibalism that happens once a “fork” is out of control. So, there is that 👀
This is my first time reading a cakeverse bl i think? Quite strange now that i think about it but i mightve jusg forgot another one that i read haha. Honestly it was kinda funny to see them reffering to themselves as cakes or forks and it being so normalized lmaao. I really liked i cant stand being your childhood friend so when i saw this was by An momose i was quite exited. It is quite a good story and i understand why non-con was involved slightly i cant give it 5 stars for that reason, i would say it wouldve been a 4 1/2 even if there was no non-con because the time jump was so unpredictable and there wsnt too much resolve and instead they jumo over it quite quickly, i understand why but it was sorta fast paced. Im interested to see what happens in the next volume.

I... Actually liked this. Not familiar at all with the cakes and fork world, but it sounded interesting enough, and this had a pretty cover so I checked it out. In the end, I really ended up liking it. As sweet as the story is there is a kind of danger that seems to linger beneath the surface at times that really kept things interesting. Really hope I don't have to wait too long for vol. 2.
Okay so the whole “forks” and “cakes” is kind of cringe. It’s literally just a different version of the omegaverse! But besides, that I’m a sucker for the nerd x hot guy pairing and I love when one has glasses. GIMME MORE FOUR EYED BOYS!!!! lol
I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. The cake/fork thing is somewhat icky, especially considering that they imply on several occasions that people are literally eaten. But I really like the couple, so we'll see
That was deliciously smutty 🥵 congrats to Naruse for getting to enter into his slut era 👏content warning: the first makeout scene is a bit dubious but after that it’s smooth sailing.
First omega/cakeverse related book and OH MY GOD, I WANT MORE!!!! Tatsunari and Naruse are the perfect pair and are a nice visual reference to the traditional alphas and omegas, which was easier to understand and enjoy. I can’t wait to see where the characters go and for more of their “meals!” 🍰🩷🍴
For now I’m going to rate this in the middle. I was super excited to dip into the cakeverse. The way everyone talked about it, I just knew that it would be something I’d enjoy. Now that I’m here I’m surprised because so far it’s not nearly as amazing as I had hoped it to be.
I’m the words of a wise philosopher…. Freak, Freak Nasty - Megan Thee Stallion I love the art, the miscommunication wasn’t annoying, and the kisses… Sloppy🩵 I think an angel gets their wings everytime there’s a ‘I’m not gay… am I?!?” moment… like hunny probably lol
okay so 'cakeverse' = a different flavor of omegaverse (heh), which felt a little silly (cakes and forks, lol). but I just love this mangaka's art style, and this ended up being quite sweet!
