3 stars - ARC Provided by BookSprout

I went into this book genuinely excited — the cover, title, and blurb immediately drew me in, and the author’s warm, down-to-earth note to the ARC team set a great tone. I could clearly see the passion and personality behind the project, and I really wanted to love where the story was headed.

For me, though, the execution didn’t quite match the promise of the premise.

What Worked for Me
• The author does a great job with sensory description, especially in portraying the foul, putrid nature of the Batiste people — those scenes were vivid in the best way.
• I appreciated the medical terminology woven into the MMCs’ conversations; while the book isn’t set in a medical environment, that language still lends a light medical flavor.
• The ending was sweet, offering closure and a happy-for-now outcome that gave Cooper a sense of justice after everything he endured.
• I also appreciated the author being upfront in the beginning about the upcoming supernatural element.

What Didn’t Work as Well (Constructive Feedback)

My main struggle was with immersion and consistency. I personally connect best with stories where I feel fully pulled into the world — atmosphere, emotional progression, natural dialogue, and believable character development. At around the 50% mark, I realized I wasn’t experiencing that level of engagement.

A few areas contributed to that:

Story Flow & Timing
• The pacing felt rushed, especially in the emotional progression between Reed and Cooper. Their connection jumps forward quickly without the buildup needed to make their chemistry feel earned.
• Many relationship and plot beats happen so fast that they strain believability, particularly in a story mostly grounded in realism.

Characterization
• Reed, who comes from a highly trained vigilante family, often reads as less mature or controlled than expected given his background.
• Cooper’s personality sometimes feels inconsistent, and his reactions to major revelations — including supernatural elements — come off as surprisingly casual.
• Several moments portray him as both naïve and effortlessly competent, without the learning curve one might expect from someone new to this world.
• The dynamic between the MMCs felt underdeveloped, with their bond forming more through implication than on-page interaction.

Plot Logic & Worldbuilding
• Certain elements (e.g., both characters disappearing from demanding medical roles without consequences) didn’t align well with real-world expectations.
• The supernatural component, while mentioned upfront, still felt tonally out of place once introduced.
• Some supporting characters — such as Cooper’s concerned med-school friend — drop out of the story entirely, creating noticeable gaps.

Technical Issues
• I also noticed a number of small grammatical errors (incorrect words, swapped terms), which I’m sure can be smoothed out with another proofreading pass.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this story had a lot of potential, and I truly appreciate the creativity of the premise and the author’s willingness to blend genres. While this particular execution didn’t fully work for me, I can see readers who enjoy dark romcom elements, morally gray characters, and unconventional pairings connecting with it more strongly.

For me, this landed at about a 3-star read — not without its bright spots, but ultimately not the immersive experience I hoped for. Still, I think the author has an engaging voice, and I look forward to seeing how her craft continues to grow across future projects.

Serial Killer for the good?

I guess there is nothing like having a serial killer, stalking, chasing kink then have it become true. Only thing that isn’t good, is when your Prince Charming stalker killer dude becomes the real thing. Que Mr Salt & Pepper McSteamy serial killer to swoop in save the day. They then carry on with their serial killer plans, while building on to their love, tearing boundaries within families, and rebuilding on what had been.

I am not sure what I just read. It wasn't bad...but wasn't great. It was intriguing enough for me to finish and I can see the potential for interconnected stand alones to come after this. I might even read them.

The premise had potential and I can safely say that this book was just not for me even though it had all the themes I wanted to read about in the book. It was just a bit too fast paced for my liking, mostly unserious, and a bit repetitive at times.

This mm romance is incredibly spicy and a chokehold for revenge stories. The chemistry between Reed and Cooper is immediate but also tension building as the overall plot unfolds. Haze did not hold back on the heavy smut that intertwines with the story perfectly, paced out so that the reader has time to connect with the characters emotionally. As my first read by the author, I'm looking forward to adding another one of her titles to my ever-growing tbr list.

*spoilers*

Reed is a doctor with a dark side of himself that's present after-hours. A dark side that often hunts down prey to leave for dead in the most grotesque of ways. Cooper is a pre-med student that is gaining experience through Reed’s teachings, but has the most head over heels crush over it that makes his bestie sick.

Cooper also starts to believe that Reed is the one leaving bodies behind, even going so far as to run solo in the woods to get the attention of his crush who sees potential in him for something else. Something that may entitle him to kill. Cooper, hesitant at first, unravels through this journey just to be alongside Reed; even after meeting his family and finding out Reed’s true intentions with him other than to toss his salad in more ways than one.

Through all this, there's a group known as the Baptistes who are rivels with the Quinns. They are known to had a horrid stench and move around in groups, targeting vulnerable Quinns to kill. But Reed won't let them hurt a hair on his blonde crush’s head and makes sure to keep his promise. When he finds out what happened to Cooper during the confrontation, he goes completely feral, allowing his true feelings for him to be expressed through bloodshed.

The overall climax and conclusion is the icing on the cake. I'm sure the end was supposed to be epilogue instead of prologue, as it lets you know what happens after Cooper recooperates from his injuries and how Reed helps him gain the closure he's needed since the untimely death of his brother, Carson. I absolutely fell for this brutal love story and would love to know what's next for the Quinn’s and the feud between the Baptistes. I still think Reed should have done all the ‘loving’ on Cooper when he was in pain… I mean it's the most he could do since he almost died in a drastic and emotionally scarring way.

I must have read this book wrong, because I laughed out loud so many times, I surprised myself. “My compliments to the chef. And my condolences to your patience. Do you mind if we take care of your other patron?”

She snorts before she can stop herself. “Have at it, amigo. I think a kidnapper would pay to return her.” Lines like this made me crack up, but above all, Cooper’s scenarios. Are they funny? Not in the least, but they’re so deranged, I laughed. He’s absolutely insane, this, he’s perfect for Reed, and vice versa. This book isn’t a pretty, light, romance story. It’s dark, dangerous, and showing the cruelty and brutality of people, of what we are capable of. And I’m not talking about the killers, no, but the Karen in the restaurant, and the not-so-innocent victims. Reminds me a little of the series by Onley James, but this is darker, colder, and scarier in a way, because these people pretend to be normal, but are far from it. I had a lot of fun reading it, though. Cooper was fantastic, hilarious without meaning to, and I’m so glad he found Reed. I do not condone the kills, regardless of how justified they might be, but it was great to see justice being served in a book. And I loved Reed’s duality, night and day, and how he can be as dark as he wishes to be with Cooper, while still playing pretend the rest of the time. And that duality is also very powerful, like Jekyll and Hyde, extremely good and extremely bad, all in one person, and what weighs more in the end? Do good deeds erase the bad? Do bad deeds erase the good? It’s a running theme in the book, and it makes it more enjoyable that way. I love morally grey characters, but how dark can your grey be before you’re black? Can the good in your life be enough to erase the bad? Is it even possible? Or it could be that we just have to remember that we live in an imperfect world and good and bad live side by side, sometimes even inside us, and we can’t judge anyone, not even ourselves at times.

3.75 stars ARC provided by Book Sirens

When I found this book it felt like it was made for me. The cover is absolutely beautiful, the blurb screams my vibes, and the title is cute and catchy! While all of this lead me to believe that this would be my first five star read of the year it didn’t land completely for me personally. I definitely liked it but I wish I could say I loved it.

Cooper Larson is a whole vibe. I love his dark humor and his sarcasm. He had a twisted side that really fit the vibe of this story. As a med student most people would expect perfect, sweet, golden retrievers. Cooper gives you dark and twisty with a side of golden retriever. His banter with his best friend was immaculate and I wish there was infinitely more of them.

Reed Quinn was man obsessed from the jump. I personally loved the way he knew what he wanted and just went for it. Yes he had his reservations but he knew that Cooper was it for him. His family was fiercely loyal and you can definitely see why he loves them, but also likes his distance.

The few things that just didn’t work for me were more so personal preferences. Certain words used like Prick and Juice (no, just no) The supernatural element felt out of place since the world building seemed to mirror that of the real world. I didn’t feel much of a connection between the main characters seeing as it was quite insta lovey.

What did work for me was the comedy. The banter was so good between Coop and his best friend, I loved the dry humor that was sprinkled in as well. The stalker vibes were IMMACULATE. Coops need for a 72hr hold made me cackle. Reeds devotion was so yummy. But also just REED QUINN in general

This book amazed me in the most positive way. I entered there with a pessimistic mind and I was not disappointed since it is grim and brutal at certain points and I also was able to laugh since some situations are so bizarre and unapologetic. Cooper is the reason for that. His reasoning is perverse, his schemes are extravagant, and that somehow makes him strangely intriguing. I was nodding my head and still smiling as I had no idea that I was not supposed to laugh, but it was definitely funny.

The thing that caught my attention was the relationship between Cooper and Reed. They do not mellow each other as they ought to in romance. Rather, they are aware of the darknesses that the other has, and that is what makes their relationship feel both scary and threatening simultaneously. The narrative does not allow you to forget that sometimes people are cruel, petty and selfish and not all monsters appear villainous. At times they are at the adjoining table posing as fine.

I was fond of the manner in which the book continued to challenge the issue of morality. To what extent can one do wrong and still think that he/she is acting in the name of justice? Is it true that the good within a person can supersede the horrible decisions that he/she makes? No simple solutions here and that is what had contributed to the story lingering in my mind after reading it. Shocking, brutal and weirdly amusing, it is the type of read that makes you continue to cogitate even when you finish the final page.

This book was my first time reading a M/M romance. I was immediately drawn in by the cover and the description of the book. I do read dark romance and thought this one sounded SO GOOD for this novice M/M reader.
I was pleasantly surprised. I went head first into this book knowing I'd like it and eager to see how this was going to play out (no pun intended, or maybe it is intended?)
I did enjoy my time with this book. The banter between Reed and Cooper was great! The medical scheme of the book woven lightly throughout was a hit for me, even if it wasn't the primary focus of the book. The humor was fantastic or perhaps, I'm a bit morbid, but amount of times I giggled and laughed and kicked my feet was surprising to me. I didn't know if that was the intent of the author or if I am, umm...if something was/is wrong with me. ha ha.

A few things were just a bit of a miss for me. First, the pacing. I felt like this was just a little rushed. I can't even pin point exactly why or what feels rushed, but I came away feeling like it was rushed and left me wanting more. Although I also realize, THAT IS THE POINT!!
The boys themselves (can I call them that?) were a little more emotionally immature than I would liked, but perhaps that too, was intentional.

For the most part this book was/is a hit and I will be reading whatever the author wants to write.

Cooper is a med student with survivor's guilt and a death wish. His need to flirt with death to get his adrenaline pumping puts him right in the cross hairs of a killer.

Reed has spent the past 10 years trying to escape the family business and forge a new path. Unfortunately for him, old habits die hard. As the wolf lurks in the woods, he can't help but be drawn to the wounded animal that keeps taunting him.

This was a fun read with dark, witty banter, insta love, and found family. I enjoyed Cooper and Reed's growing relationship as they chip away at each other's exteriors. I did feel that their relationship moved incredibly fast with very little resistance from Cooper as he was drawn into Reed's world, which seemed less than realistic. And while I appreciate that the author warned up front about the supernatural encounter, it still seemed out of place in a story grounded in the real world. There were quite a few grammatical errors such as missing or extra words, improper forms of words, etc. which became very distracting and frustrating while reading.

Overall, I thought it was a fun vibes read, especially for fans of Brynne Weaver, Lauren Biel, etc. I will be reading Hunt Boy, Hunt when it releases in 2026 to continue to follow Cooper and Reed's story.

Dark
Vigilante family

I wanted to like this. The cover and the blurb had me excited. But it failed to deliver. So many issues. I most likely will not continue the series. There were so many grammatical errors; missing words, incomplete or fragment sentences, wrong words used, wrong punctuation. Main characters in the early story (Cooper’s best friend) just dropped off.

When he and Reed leave to go to Reed’s family estate, they just leave. There is no telling anybody. Not the hospital they work for, not the best friend, not the college. And it happened too fast. There was no explanation from Reed to Cooper about what exactly was going on nor what he would be walking into. Reed saves his life, murders someone in front of him, picks him up and carries him home, then they are on a private jet. And he is told he will never leave, he either joins the family business or he will be eliminated. And then they are off on 3 missions to kill serial predators (a rapist and murderer, a literal forest siren, (why is there a paranormal entity in this?) and a cult leader who harvests his followers organ to sell on the black market).

The spice scenes were decent. I liked the primal chase/hunt foreplay. The getting railed without lube doesn’t sound fun. And Dr Reed sure loved rimming Cooper.

🖤🔪💙 Review: Run Boy, Run

This was such a fun, unhinged ride. It was dark, witty, and way more charming than it has any right to be considering the body count. I loved both Cooper and Reed so much. Their dynamic? Absolute chaos in the best way.

You’ve got a reckless, sunshine-coded med student being stalked on night runs… and the terrifyingly handsome ER attending who may or may not be the masked vigilante serial killer obsessed with him. Grumpy vs. sunshine, stalker romance, touch him and die, found family, rival clans. Um….yes please. 🩸

I do wish we’d had more of the hunting/chasing tension at the beginning because that concept was delicious, but once this story picked up, it really didn’t let go. The romance slides in around the halfway point, making it feel like a slow burn with payoff, and the darker elements (plus the gore) were right up my alley.

What surprised me most? This was my first dark rom-com, and I genuinely laughed a few times. The humor worked, the banter hit, and the contrast between absurdity and violence somehow made it even better.

Overall, I had a great time with this one and will absolutely be picking up the next book. If you like your romance dark, dangerous, and a little unhinged—with a side of murder and found family—you’ll probably eat this up.

Dark, addictive, and unexpectedly hilarious; Run Boy, Run understood the assignment.

ARC – Book Siren
How I consumed it: Kindle
Length: 262 pages
Rating: 4 Stars
MMC: Cooper Larson
MMC: Dr. Reed Quinn

My Thoughts:
This was a great first book. I liked that many parts of it were funny even though the things they would do to the bodies of the people they un-alived were gross.

A bit about the book:
Copper Larson was studying medicine and had totally given up on life. He lost his brother in a tragic hit and run accident that he and his parents survived. He never seemed to get over it. Carson, who was the good brother, should have survived.

There was a local serial killer on the loose. Cooper made sure to take his jogs hoping to run into him. After all that was one of his kinks. The thrill of having his life on the line was the only thing keeping his dark feelings at bay.

Dr Reed Quinn was a top ER doctor in the same hospital that Cooper was studying at. After Reed had seen him on a jog out one night he was instantly enamored with him and made sure to put himself on his path once he found out that he was going to be teaching him.

I wanted to love this but there were too many things that bothered me that affected my reading experience.

I loved the concept and the beginning of the story. Cooper Larson, a med student with an underlying lust for danger, Reed Quinn, an ER attending doctor with a dark family secret.

Cooper is a former track runner and even though several female students have gone missing, he can't help but tempt fate with nightly runs. He hopes that one night, his run becomes a chase.

There's very little build up until the ''main event'' and even then, it's not anything.

Then the story takes a complete left turn into something completely different where the main story line is just gone.

Quinn takes Larson back to his home in Maine where the rest of the Quinn's are planning an extermination of a rival clan.

I don't understand how it went from med student wanting to be chased to family rivalry that involves running.

It was just really weird and there were so many plot holes and it derailed completely from what it was supposed to be.

The sex scenes were hot but also repetitive. The banter was decent in some parts.

Cooper and Reed are both enigmatic characters. Cooper is a med student who seems like the boy next door but really is seeking something to make him feel alive again, to pull him from the survivors guilt he has embraced like a second skin. Reed is a put together ER dr who saves lives, but is also the heir of a vigilante serial killer family. What could go wrong when he meets the unsuspecting thrill seeking Cooper running in booty shorts while a different serial killer in on the prowl? And what sort of hijinks occur once Reed catches him?
This was a fun book about two very different characters that somehow worked, they just click in their murder menace together. I liked the aspect of going from killer to killer, the learning on the job as it were portions to Cooper's participation. Add in a bit of spicy times, and the end with a continuation into the next book and it looks like it maybe a start to a good series.

I read this book as an ARC, as always all reviews are my own opinions based on my personal preferences.

I can see the vision here.

The story is clearly aiming for dark, edgy, sexy, and cheeky, but for me the execution leans too hard, too fast and completely overshoots the tone. From the very first chapter it starts beating you over the head with “I’m sooo sick and twisted and not like other guys,” and it lands less like Negan and more like Jared Leto’s Joker. Against my will, I kept imagining this as the narrator:

I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but everything being compared to blood, corpses, bones, and decay over and over again had me laughing more than feeling spooked. The story itself is good! It’s creative and unique, and it has the capacity to be funny, but I found that it kept undercutting itself.

If you enjoy very over-the-top edgy humor, you might have fun with this, but it wasn’t for me.

Run Boy Run is dark, intense, and gripping from the very first pages. The pacing is tight, the atmosphere is heavy with tension, and the story pulls you forward in a way that makes it hard to put down. (I read it in one sitting! 🫣)

The character dynamics are compelling and layered, with an emotional undercurrent that adds depth to the darker elements of the story. The author does an excellent job balancing intensity with momentum, keeping the narrative focused while still allowing the characters and their relationship to develop naturally.

This was a captivating read that fully commits to its tone and themes, and I found myself completely immersed in the world and the story. I’m very glad I had the chance to read and review this ARC, and I’d happily recommend it to readers who enjoy dark, high-tension romance with a strong emotional pull.

Reed is a doctor, but also a serial killer. That has an obsession with Cooper the med student. With a dark side that changes everything for the both of them.

I like the fact that this is truly a gory romcom. With two chaotic characters finding love. With that being said you get to see Cooper true potential with Reed. Reed knew right away that Cooper was it and he will never let him go. I like the fact that they accept each other’s darkness. You also get to see a loyal psychotic family. That would do everything in their power to come up on top. The ending was good because it makes you want to know what will happen next with this family. Overall, I enjoyed these two chaotic characters very much. And the way that Cooper has his sarcastic and dark sense of humor. That Reed does not have to hide his dark side anymore. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book in the series.

I really loved this story and the concept behind it. The overall idea was engaging and original, and it kept me interested throughout. The characters were a highlight for me.bI enjoyed them so much and loved following their journey.

While there were a few moments where the story moved a bit quickly between major points, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I found myself wishing for just a little more detail in some transitions and decision-making moments because the story and characters were so compelling that I wanted even more of them.

Overall, this was a wonderful read with a strong concept and lovable characters, and I truly enjoyed the experience. I would definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy the dark romance style genre and are looking for a story with heart and potential.

Run boy run was the first book I have read by R.J. Raze. We have Cooper med student by day and has a death wish by night. People are being unalived and instead of being safe, cooper is taking silly risks. See everyday cooper is faking it and he is looking for something... to fill the void to escape.

Then we have Dr. Reid Quinn super hot and talented er doctor by day and vigilante killer by night. After one meeting Quinn is hooked and when coopers life is in real danger he can't help but do something he said he never would.. he saves him.

But now Cooper is caught up in Quinns world.. Will he survive? This book was a thrilling ride, I thought I knew the direction and it threw me a curve ball. It was also nice and hot which I love. One thing I didnt like was the amount of snark, sometimes it seemed to go on too much. But that didnt prevent me from enjoying the book.

First off, thank you to R.J. Raze and Booksirens for the ARC of this book. This book was a fun time and I enjoyed reading it.

Reed and Cooper are definitely both unhinged characters and their relationship is fun despite the dark elements of both their personalities. The Quinn family has the potential to be pretty interesting if expanded on more in the sequel, so I hope that ends up being the case.

I will say that this book’s pacing does seem somewhat rushed, which is why I gave it the 3.5 rating. If some elements were given more time to breathe this would easily be a full 4 star read. Overall, I recommend checking this one out if you like a dark romcom with an MM romance at the center.

Thank you R.J. Raze for my copy.

I rated this book 4 ✨. It was so fun and lighthearted in the dark romance world.
I had such a good time reading this book.

Cooper is a med student who has a death wish and goes out looking for trouble. Reed is a doctor who is also is and has a family of serial killers who only kill those who deserve it. I really liked the plot and the back and forth between them. They just clicked and you can see that.

Tropes:

RomCom
MM Romance
Serial Killers
Stalker MC
Possessive MMC

I would definitely recommend this book if you like Dark MM RomComs. It was such a good time.

I definitely want to read Cooper and Reed's next book.

ARC review:
3.5 ⭐️
Likes:
-stalker vibes, but with a ‘just kidding’ feel
-he fell first and hard
-mutual instalove (when they realized who the other was)
-found family
-touch him and die (literally)
-serial killer thriller

Dislikes:
-the savagery of the sex scenes, the idea of prepping and using lube escaped the characters; I don’t know that the scenes would be possible, let alone enjoyable
-the descriptions of the family’s sworn enemies-I get they’re the enemy, but making them so vial and disgusting wasn’t needed

Overall I liked the story. It was different and fun to read. The dynamics of Reed’s family were odd, but relatable.

I did enjoy the change of seeing into a serial killer's perspective and seeing how dark and twisted they could be. It was pretty thrilling to get to know him and the ins and outs of him and how his family works. There was a part that almost made me DNF automatically, but fortunately, it passed and I was able to finish the book. I also didn't fully enjoy some actions of the MC at the beginning. All in all though, it was definitely a different change of pace and if you enjoy thriller books, this is definitely the right type of book for you!

I went into this super excited and with high expectations based on the descriptions but it unfortunately wasn’t quite to my tastes. The humor aspects were there but it was more of a dry humor and not quite what I was hoping for. I would have liked to feel a little more depth and connection with the characters, the relationships and story just felt a little rushed. The random bit of paranormal added in just felt misplaced as well. The story overall was interesting though and has potential going forward in the series.

Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book.

What if the blonde final girl also had serial killer tendencies?

That's the premise of this book. My usual complain with darko romances is that they are ridiculous, but they try to sell them as serious and high stakes. But in this the charachters leaned in the humor and th sillyness, which was highly entertaining. It was super fast paced, we went from hunter and prey to married co-murderers pretty quickly, but the charachters were aware it was weird and unserious situation.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"I never knew flirting with death could be so sweet."

Great debut!

Dark rom-com for the win!
This was a fun, entertaining, fast-paced read. If you're into unhinged MMCs that love spicy primal play, have hilarious banter, and don't mind the graphic scenes (cuz you know serial vigilante unaliver...) then this is the book for you.

Tropes:
Stalker Romance
Morally black
Vigilante Serial unaliver
Grumpy vs. Sunshine
Touch him and ☠️
Age-gap
Inta-lust
Found Family
Rival Clans
Graphic/Explicit
Dual POV

Looking forward to book 2 in the series.

The story of a med student and an ER Dr/vigilante/serial killer falling in love. It was fast moving, fun and quirky. You get to follow along as Connor finds himself and makes a transformation into who he was always meant to be while learning more about Reed’s extracurricular activities and family. There is a sudden twist about half way in that seemed completely out of place to me. We go from a dark MM rom-com serial killer story to a quick commercial break involving paranormal/fantasy/mythical beings and then back to the advertised program. All in all, a fun little read.
