Com Amor, Freddie

Rate this book

🎶 Is This The Real Life… 🎶

A Secret Daughter claims to own FM’s Secret Diaries!

Seriously?!

Where are They?
Who is She?

Sssshhhhhhh… They are Secret and intend to remain that way…

All She really wants is telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help Her Leslie-Ann Jones:

“After more than three decades of lies, speculation and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak”

Is this FM’s Real Life?!

Well… I’ll reply with a lil help of a sentence I once red in Asterix the Gaul:

Maybe it is or maybe it isn’t …😜

Nevertheless… on second thoughts, it could be.

Why?!

Since all we have is ghost evidence, either you’ll trust your own special feelings or not. Could these new revelations be some of the missing pieces of FM’s Real Story? Well… I felt they could fit…

Now it’s up to you to consult your own special feelings (or not 😜)
You can read this book as a Biography or… just another fiction book. Either ways, I bet you won’t yawn…

————————————-

🎶 Is This The Real Life… 🎶

“Love, Freddie” é a mais recente biografia de Freddie Mercury e, supostamente, a única onde se conta “the whole truth and nothing but the truth”.

“After more than three decades of lies, speculation and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak”

I’ve always been a huge fan of Freddie Mercury and Queen so I splurged on Love, Freddie as soon as it was published. It’s definitely a compelling read and if it’s true, it reveals a much more private side to Freddie.

B, the woman who claims to be Freddie’s daughter, says she’s speaking out now because there have been so many mistruths about Freddie’s life. She’s particularly disparaging about Freddie’s depiction in the film, Bohemian Rhapsody.

It’s interesting that Mary Austin has denied all knowledge of this secret daughter and/or the journals B claims to have been given by Freddie shortly before he passed away, because in the book B is very defensive of Mary. The author, Lesley-Ann Jones, a well-respected music journalist, admits that when she spent time with Queen, she was disparaging of Mary because she wondered why his ex-girlfriend was still hanging around after they’d split up. According to B, Mary was the true love of Freddie’s life and if he hadn’t contracted AIDS, they’d planned to have their own family and grow old together.

There’s no evidence beyond the contents of these 17 journals to support B’s claims. The author says she’s met B and she bears an uncanny physical resemblance to Freddie and she’s seen photos of the two of them together but they aren’t included in the book. There has never been a DNA test either although it would be possible with Freddie’s sister.

If it’s a hoax, it feels like a very elaborate one and I’m not sure what the end goal is given that B seeks neither publicity nor money for telling her story. She knows details like Freddie’s father’s full name, which could only be verified by trawling through naturalisation records.

I think it’s going to be very divisive because the revelation that Freddie was bisexual is going to be a blow to those who view him as an icon of homosexuality. It’s also not going to be popular with people who identify as being part of Freddie’s inner circle and if it’s true, weren’t trusted with this information. Other people will take great delight in the idea that a part of Freddie lives on in his daughter and grandchildren.

Repetitive! The whole point of this book is to convince everyone of the existence of Freddy Mercury's supposed daughter. Throughout the entire book she is described as loyal, truthful and basically the only person in the entire world who *really* knew and understood Freddy. I just wonder why the author or B. herself can't or won't show any real evidence? Not even a photo of Freddy's diary's is shown. B. isn't mentioned in his will because he was very discreet about everything to do with her, Brian May denies her existence, she wasn't at the funeral, we don't know what she looks like, we don't even know if Lesley-Ann Jones every really talked to this woman or just made it up. Ultimately, it all sounds like a fan girls' fantasy. Nevertheless, it was interesting to read about Freddy, but take it with a pinch of salt.

When the press reported that Freddie Mercury's diaries had allegedly been found, and this report was followed by the news that Freddie had a secret daughter, of course, these facts seemed too sensational to believe. But I still admitted the possibility, however small, that it could be true, and I hoped that Lesley-Ann Jones's book, as she herself promised, would reveal all the necessary evidence. Only for this reason I decided to read "Love, Freddie".

Reading this book was difficult for me, as a long-time fan of Freddie Mercury. It was surprising to see so many fabrications and incorrect facts collected under one cover.

There are so many inaccuracies in the book that there is no point in analyzing them all in detail - it is a waste of time. It feels like you are reading fiction, not a biographical novel. If these fabrications were harmless, perhaps one could simply shrug, but they touch on very intimate and sensitive areas of Freddie's life: religion, sexual relations, childhood trauma. Such topics cannot be parasitized.

Through the mouth of "Freddie's daughter" the author communicates unflattering things not only about Freddie, but also about other people close to him. For example, Jim Hutton was allegedly just a "rent boy" for Freddie and Freddie kept him around only because he was afraid that Jim would tell the press details of Freddie’s outrageous cruising. And Mary Austin allegedly put up with the fact that Freddie, while on tour, would share with her a two-bedroom hotel suit whereto he would bring random male lovers and have fun with them while Mary waited for him behind the wall; afterwards, Freddie allegedly took a shower and went to bed with Mary. It is simply disgusting to instill such things in people without presenting a single piece of evidence.

And how does it feel for Freddie's family to know that he was allegedly regularly raped by a master at a boarding school in India for almost a year? Where is the evidence? Moreover, in her previous book “Love of My Life” in 2021, Leslie cited the words of Freddie's "close former school friend" that Freddie in those days allegedly tried to seduce him, flaunted his homosexual inclinations, and also flirted with other boys and even teachers. However, Leslie did not name this "former school friend" either. Obviously, after she got away with it in 2021, Leslie published an entire book in 2025 based on an anonymous source. This is a very dangerous trend. How is it possible to allow such intimate details to be published without any evidence?

Also, in "Love, Freddie", Leslie and the alleged "secret daughter" periodically refer to deceased people as witnesses being totally aware that those can no longer confirm or deny their words. How convenient!

The author has not presented a single credible piece of evidence to support her "revelations." Not a single one! Not a single photograph, not a single postcard, not a single letter, and, of course, the reader will not see any photographs of the diaries and entries in them, or quotes from Freddie's direct speech. And again: oh, how convenient! The evidence on which the entire story is based (the diaries) will neither be provided to the reader nor revealed to the public.

In general, decide for yourself whether you want to take the author’s word for it in such important matters, whether you want to spend your money on empty and unkind nonsense. And I have already formed my opinion about this book: author, give me my money back, you fraud!

I’m sorry, but this is too much to accept without proof. Jones claims to have met and spoken with Freddie Mercury’s secret daughter.

OK, I’ll listen.

But said daughter wants to remain anonymous, identified only as “B” throughout the book, and claims to have inherited 17 handwritten journals from Freddie, her dad, before he passed. These journals reveal Freddie’s innermost thoughts and life details, some of which he never told anyone else, but discussed at length with her.

OK, it’s a possibility, though it would be the first time I’ve ever heard of the existence of these journals.

Yet for the entire length of the book, not one scrap of hard evidence is presented, other than LAJ winking and saying “trust me on this”.

The problem is, so much of this contradicts public knowledge of events that she shouldn’t be able to write these checks without showing the receipts. The amount of time “B” spent with her “dad” would have been noticed by someone. “Fiercely loyal” friends may close rank and keep a secret, but with so many people in Freddie’s circle, it would be extremely difficult to keep “B” a secret for so long without even a hint of a rumor. And there is so much detail on Freddie’s sexual background along with speculation on his motivations that it comes off weird to me that any child would talk about their father in that context. It feels off.

I went into this with an open mind. Subsequent research on the subject doesn’t turn up anyone speaking out on the veracity of any of these claims or even that an unknown daughter exists. Again, you would think SOMEONE would corroborate.

And I would think, now that it is out in the open, that someone could track “B” down.

I’m sorry, but if you are asking me to believe all of these assertions clearly contradicting many things I have come to believe as truths over the years you need to show me proof. A photo of some of the journal entries in Freddie’s handwriting. DNA test results. Something other than “I believe what she is telling me”.

It all may be true. But I simply cannot take any of it at face value without hard evidence. And the whole “my dad’s life is misunderstood and misrepresented but I’m here to set the record straight, yet I don’t want anyone to know who I am” schtick only adds further doubt in my mind as to how accurate all of this is.

I may eat these words if “B” goes public and shows the world the journals. Honestly, that is what it might take for me to believe in many of the assertions LAJ and “B” put in this book. Otherwise I’m just putting this down as Lesley Ann Jones looking for a paycheck. And yes, I bought the book. So mission accomplished, I guess.

1 out of 5 wink wink nudge nudge stars.

I’m not a fan of Queen and was never especially interested in Freddie Mercury, so I had no particular opinion of him when I picked up this new biography, but the notion that he was a father, and that his daughter has now gone public, piqued my interest.

First of all, the degree of detail and insight shared by “B” (the otherwise anonymous daughter) is such that she has to be who she says that she is, so let’s put that to one side.

“B” provides most of the narrative in this book and she writes incredibly eloquently about her father, guided by the trusted authority and compassion of Lesley Ann Jones.

What struck me most about this book is that, as much as she is overflowing with loving memories of her father, “B” seems to have penned a love letter to Freddie’s long-term bestie, Mary Austin. It is unclear whether or not they ever met – presumably not – but while her own mother gets scant reference, Mary is present throughout the chapters, always praised to the hilt.

My main question about Freddie’s decision to keep “B” a secret is this: of whom was he most ashamed? Himself, his daughter and what she represents, or was it perhaps the potential damage it might have done to his public image, should the truth emerge? We’ll never know. But he, and the people genuinely closest to him, went to extraordinary lengths to keep “B” hidden.

Other than his love for “B”, Freddie comes over as a narcissistic control freak who thought he could buy love, that everyone had a price, and that he was king of it all. The court of Freddie must have been a difficult place to reside.

This is a story as old as time, but also one that perhaps could not happen today. It is very much worth your time if you are interested in how life was 50 years ago for a mixed up bisexual boy from nowhere, who found global fame as a madman called Freddie.

Review: Love, Freddie by Lesley-Ann Jones

Lesley-Ann Jones’ Love, Freddie opens up a fascinating new window into the life of Freddie Mercury, thanks to the unveiling of his long-hidden secret notebooks. These fragments of private thought are compelling and provide an intimacy that fans rarely get to glimpse. They remind us of Freddie’s complexity — his humour, his artistry, and his restlessness — and bring fresh texture to a story that has often been retold.

At the same time, the commentary that accompanies these notebooks — shared by the benefactor who safeguarded them for years — can feel uneven. While it adds colour and context, it sometimes strays into bitterness, casting aspersions on the recollections of those who were closest to Freddie. The insistence on highlighting supposed inaccuracies in other accounts risks coming across as jaded or resentful, and occasionally distracts from the power of Freddie’s own words.

Jones handles this material with skill, weaving it into a narrative that both celebrates and questions the myths surrounding Mercury. Yet readers may find themselves torn: enthralled by the intimacy of the notebooks, but wary of the slant that sometimes accompanies them.

In the end, Love, Freddie is a bold and fascinating read. It is at once revealing and provocative, shedding light on Mercury in new ways while also raising as many questions as it answers. For admirers of Freddie, it is an essential but not uncritical addition to the growing body of work about his extraordinary life.

No nie wierzę w to.

A, no i zero dowodu, oczywiście.

I finished reading this book yesterday. As for books about the man, I had only read Mercury And Me in 1997 and Queen As It Began in, I believe, 1998. This recent biography was fascinating. I easily picked up on B's ongoing frustration, suggesting perhaps that she waited too long to vent her anger against those people who, over the last 34 years, misconstrued who her dad actually was and what he actually did. The book gives me a glimpse into Judgement Day... of God expressing his frustrations and disappointments over those words carelessly or wrongfully spoken concerning His Son and His Holy Word. I represent one person of the public who loved his music and his voice and his presentation enough to want to read more about him, to learn who he was. I make my money working at a fast food restaurant. Were I an author, I probably also would have written some incorrect assumptions about the iconic singer, because one misinterpretation or assumption becomes the platform for more and more falsified [whether by ignorance or deceit] information. I'm so glad that Miss B spoke up to have this book made by the author. I'm so sad that she kept her quiet frustrations pent up for so long, tolerating the incorrect interpretations of who her father was and is. This book was quite helpful to me.

I was skeptical about the claim of Freddie having a daughter right out of the gate, and this book didn't change my mind. It's an interesting idea, and there's nothing in the book that's particularly malignant or scandalous that might actually hurt Freddie's legacy, but there also really isn't any evidence to back up B.'s claim, or even the fact that B. exists and isn't a figment of the author's imagination. It was a harmless enough read, but it didn't leave me feeling swayed from my original feelings about the claims it makes.

No proof in this book, nothing concrete, no photos, just inventions, everything is just rumors and things known about Freddie for a long time. None of this is very serious, unfortunately, which is not surprising with this author, formerly a scandal journalist, today either gullible or a fabulist, take your pick.

Biografia bez dowodów to fikcja.

‘Love, Freddie’ is a page-turner that kept me wanting to know more. I was wowed reading it many times — it gives a deeper look at Freddie Mercury’s life beyond fame and shows his love, challenges, and humanity. I highly recommend this to any true Freddie fan.
