Love it!
I already love the towerfall series but this one really got me in the feels. I identified a lot with Amanda so as the story progressed I was really able to put myself in her shoes. One big theme was self discovery and it really put a lot of things in my life into perspective. I love how Kristin is really able to make her FMCs really relatable. That makes the story much more captivating. I cant wait to see what's in store for the next book :)

This one just didn’t work for me

The premise was good but failed in execution.
Here we are back in Tower fall, the land that does not come fully assembled in this series. This time we are following Amanda and Declan.
Amanda is a wannabee teenage witch, who's in her 30's but hasn't figured out that she's not in high school anymore. She's busy crafting emotional armor in the form of toxic positivity and avoidance. She lacks the commonsense brain cells, and quite frankly, can't remember where she put her grown up pants. The story is full of Amanda rushing off to play hero, refusing help when she should really (really) be taking it, and blaming herself for things beyond her control and then snapping like an alligator at the hot guy who just wants to hold her hand.
Declan is a sweetheart, but he's busy cosplaying as a fuckboy through the first part of the story....and that's really it. Same as the rest of the men in this series, he's barely given a personality, and most of that is 'I love this girl even though I don't actually know her'. Yep, he's there to be the equivalent of an emotional support animal to our heroine, but beyond that, he might as well be a bowl of mayo for how appealing he is.
*both characters are in their 30's but no joke act like they are 15.
*The dialogue sounds like it was written by a 15 yo.
*The entire plot is super cringe and over the top stupid dramatic.
*The witchy toxic positivity just about melted my brain.
*Amanda pushing to meet Declan after spending god knows how much time sexting the poor guy then deciding 2 seconds after meeting Declan that she hates him because he's coming off exactly as how he was in the DM's.
*Amanda and Declan getting thrown into another world and Amdanda then gets mad that he's calm in the situation and decides calling him a dick every other sentence and belittling him is ok.
*Amanda slapping Declan (nothing says romance like attacking our ML)
*The side characters are dumb, but they're mostly teens, so I forgive them for acting like teens.
*Amanda saying she's a 'story witch' but then is just a story teller...like. LMAO.
*Amanda and Declan performing a version of Twilight as their performance...yikes.
*Amanda and Declan performing a version of Fourth Wing...*double yikes*
*All other performances glossed over because, well, they don't really matter to the plot or anything.
*Declan saying, 'don't light the bed on fire', followed by Amanda setting the bed on fire.
*Amanda, deciding she doesn't want to get close to Declan, so she's constantly running away like she's a 15-year-old in a soap opera. *heavy on the drama and tears while she does it*
*Amanda punishing Declan for matching with her on a dating app. The amount of times she brings up that they were matched, and they were both 'playing a part' and essentially holding it over him...gag. like...girl...you were on a dating app too, why are you treating him like a lepper?
*Be prepared for 'I love you', and then immediately followed by 'fuck you, I hate you.'
*Amanda using Declan's insecurities and trauma to attack him, after just telling him that she loves him.
From 80% on to the end I basically skimmed because the story had fully lost me. Teenage soap opera does not appeal to me. Even the spice couldn't reel me in away from the super cringe story line. The ending is pretty cliche and it tried ending on the 'I am Fortune, Fortune is me' note, but bllllaaaah. Figured that out from the beginning. The twist is not the twist that the author thinks it is.
Its really too bad because I liked the setup, just like the other ones, but not enough is put into fleshing anything out, let alone giving anything any depth what so ever. So...2 stars just because i did like the setup.

Right from the beginning, I related to Amanda, as I feel so many millennial women will. A world of virtual dating and being able to portray your most confident self meets an awkward reality in trying to live up to the online persona. Kristin Cast captures this so well in both the story and the characters.
I received the ALC and if you’re an audiobook fan, I definitely recommend it. The narrators were so fun and playful together and you can feel the chemistry building while the characters also become raw and open with one another.
I highly recommend for anyone who loves a whimsical romance.

“Ack, no! I do not get turned on by potential displays of violence in defense of my honor.”
I didn’t realize until after I got this book that it’s actually the third book in a series but luckily you don’t have to read them in order, but basically takes place in the “Towerfall” world where magic (magick) is real and based on tarot cards, I believe. I don’t know too much about tarot, but the main character in this story does. Amanda is a story editor who enjoys tarot and she leads a sexy life on an app but in person she’s stressed out. She’s been talking back and forth with this CEO of a firm named Declan and things have been getting steamy and they decide to meet in real life. But that meeting goes wrong when she feels he’s not emotionally invested and doesn’t share anything about himself, and she’s about to leave when he asks if they can start over on her terms. She decides to do some tarot on him but one card that keeps showing up for her, the Wheel of Fortune, suddenly goes hot and the two are flung into this other world called the Kingdom of Wands, which is in the middle of this sandy desert. They have no idea how they got there or how to get out. They are captured by guards and taken to these two queens, and Amanda is able to save their lives by saying she’s a story witch. She has to put on performances every night telling stories, and she does Twilight and Fourth Wing which was really funny. But she also finds there’s this embodiment of Fortune and Amanda is trying to find her so that they can get back to their own world. All the while, Amanda and Declan are being snarky to one another but they are starting to feel more and are opening up to each other. But they keep on getting interrupted haha. I think the premise of this book up until this point was interesting, but this book really loses me in the second half. I’m not even sure how to describe it other than Amanda doing a lot of internal self discovery about how she needs to… be her authentic self? There were moments where I wanted to get OUT of her head. She has this revelation when she and Declan find this tower in the desert (I had a really hard time imagining what this looked like) and they fall into this crevice with it, where she encounters ghosts who bare their truths to her. She finally admits to her love for Declan and this is probably the one spicy scene in the book (I’m definitely fine with that, it’s just before I started this book I thought there were going to be more). They climb their way out of the tower and Declan admits to her that she was “market research” and that’s how they first met online. Should he have told her this sooner? Yes. But I also feel like the way Amanda responds is overkill. She says some pretty nasty things to him right after admitting she loved him. So like did she actually love him? Anyway. They are captured by the queens because they skipped performing that night, and the queens want to set fire to them on the pyre. Amanda tries to explain that they found the tower and the tower wants to bring health back to the land how it was before the queens ruled but they don’t listen. Amanda uses her time stopping ability to escape the pyre and at first I thought she was literally going to just leave Declan there to burn. But she returns to the tower where she finds her purse and the Fortune tarot card and basically she ignites a storm and Declan is injured in it and dies. But fear not! He’s brought back to life. Amanda’s powers reclaim the Towerfell world to what it used to be. They are able to return to the normal world and of course they are together now. As I said this book really lost me in the second half and also the writing just wasn’t my favorite. There was chemistry missing between the two main characters and I feel like a lot of the quotes made me cringe and I’ve seen them before. The concept, at least, felt pretty unique, just not very effective.

Fortune is the third instalment in the Towerfall series, and as always, stepping into a world created by Kristin Cast feels a little like coming home.
The concept alone had me hooked. Diving through a tarot card and ending up in an entirely new realm? Sign me up immediately.
That said, Wands was... a lot.
While I enjoyed the journey, I didn't connect with this one quite as much as I did The Empress and The Lovers. Amanda also tested my patience more than once throughout the story. There were several moments where I found myself wanting to reach through the pages and gently (or not so gently) shake some sense into her.
But then...
Those final chapters happened.
The moment they found the Tower, I was completely locked in. Suddenly I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Everything I'd been waiting for clicked into place, and I devoured the remainder of the story in one sitting.
The ending gave us the HEA I was desperately hoping for, and after everything these characters endured, it felt well earned.
Although if I'm being completely honest, I would have loved for Cinder and Fennel to be part of that ending too. I'm choosing to believe future visits are absolutely on the cards because I'm not ready to say goodbye to them just yet.
Even though this wasn't my favourite book in the series, it's still a strong read and a reminder of why I continue to pick up every book Kristin Cast releases. There was just something missing for me this time, something I can't quite put my finger on.
Regardless, I'm fully invested and counting down the days until the fourth and final Towerfall instalment, Death.
Because after that ending?
There's no way I'm not seeing this journey through to the very end.

I was at a new, romance only indie bookstore and bought this book on a whim based on the synopsis and the really beautiful printed edges of the pages. Not a huge fan of the cartoon covers, but I do love printed edges. I thought it would be a fun portal romantasy. First, if I had even looked inside the book I would have seen that it’s the 3rd in a series. (I was also plugged into that fact very quickly when in the first chapter, a terribly happy best friend showed up with her amazing man. Anyone who has read series romance will recognize the main characters of a previous book very quickly.)
Second, if I had opened the book I would have seen that the magic (eyerollingly spelled magick) is based on tarot and I’m not into that. And probably missed some stuff because I don’t know anything about it? The story does stand alone pretty well and I started out mildly entertained and figured that I was trying something new. I don’t mind reading about people learning and growing into themselves, but I was annoyed with Amanda and her path to self realization? Self fulfillment? Self actualization? I don’t know what its called but it wasn’t fun to read.
I have a purge pile already started and this goes straight to it. Not a keeper. But I did support an indie bookstore and an author I’ve never read. Let’s hope I have better luck with the other books I bought.

I think this has been my favorite Towerfall book so far.
The fact that Amanda and Declan meet through a dating app had me laughing because, of all the ways they could’ve ended up together, I definitely wasn’t expecting that. What made it even better was finding out Declan hadn’t matched with her by accident…he sought her out because he knew Amanda was the key to getting back to Towerfall. I loved watching what started as a mission slowly turn into something so much more.
Amanda was probably my favorite part of this book. She’s funny, impulsive, and definitely not prepared for what’s happening, but she just keeps rolling with it. I loved that she wasn’t trying to be some fearless heroine, she was just doing her best to survive the absolute chaos.
Declan definitely tested my patience a few times, but that’s also what made him interesting. Once he started letting those walls down, I completely understood Amanda’s pull toward him. Their chemistry felt natural, and I liked that they had to earn each other’s trust instead of everything coming easy.
I also really enjoyed getting another glimpse into Towerfall. Every book reveals a little more about the world, and I’m still finding myself wanting to know more about the Arcana and how everything is connected.

Although I have yet to read the other books in this series, I couldn’t resist taking out this book from my local library as it could be read as a standalone and had absolutely gorgeous cover art along with a fascinating premise.
Let’s set the stage: Amanda always tries to put on the perfect show of being in balance and well-managed. Whether it be through her social media, meeting new people, or connecting with devastatingly handsome Declan on a dating app, Amanda has it all together (or at least she appears to). In reality, her life is far from how she wants others to picture it.
Upon being thrust into a kingdom wherein magick is real, and her insecurities are laid bare, Amanda must perform each night for a court that is seldom satiated, and she must do so as if her life depends on it, since it does.
Alongside Declan, who is to face his own truths in this new land, a silly and beloved donkey named Fennel, and a picky cat named Cinder who only has eyes for Declan, Amanda must take her destiny into her own hands and learn the meaning of accountability and owning up to her truths before it’s too late.

I came across this book at Barnes and Nobles and absolutely fell in love with the cover of the book and the gorgeous sprayed edges! The summary for this book intrigued me enough for a fantasy book (I usually stick to rom com) so it was an instant buy~
Quick recap: Amanda Ward is unfufilled and going through the motions in real life. But on the dating app she matches with CEO Declan Thorne she's sexy and extremely confident. When the two meet up in real life magick happens, and not just the sexual kind!!! Amanda and Declan are transported to a kingdom full of performers and secrecey with no idea how to get back home.
My Thoughts: I loved the chemsitry between Amanda and Declan!! It was just the right amount of spice and a quick read. Some of the mystery leading up to why Amanda and Declan where transported to an unfamilar world made sense, but the pacing of the story felt slow at times and it felt like I was getting the same things repeated over and over. Not to mention how frustrated I was with Amanda continously pushing her loved ones away. The ending was nice but I wish we had gotten more than just an epiphany moment on the last page.

I am thoroughly enjoying how Kristin is changing up the dynamic of each book in this tarot magic series. In this installment, we follow Amanda, an influencer who focuses on manifestation as she travels through a new world - both physically and metaphorically. After matching with a sexy CEO on a dating app, Amanda takes a leap of faith in meeting him in person after many spicy texts. When a tarot reading during their date tosses them both into a different realm, they struggle through getting to really know each other while also trying to survive an unknown world. Will they be able to overcome their own self-doubt in order to embrace each other and beat the clock?
The tarot magic in these books is so unique and leaves it wide open for so much more creativity and exploration. The only thing I wish we got more of, was how the magic actually works. I feel like we are only touching the surface of what it all means and I’m hoping that the series continues to build on what we already know.
As for the narrators, Andie and Brandon were both amazing choices to bring these characters to life and I will definitely be grabbing other audiobooks by them!

Fortune was such a fun book. i listened to the audiobook in one day! The story was so fun and creative. i love finding books that has the MC’s using tarot cards. Our MC’s meet on a dating app and decide to meet in person. While our FMC offers to do something “witchy”, they both end up in another realm! Talk about a first date. They go on this journey that has them both realizing the bigger meaning behind what Fortune has in store for them. There is also a Donkey and a Cat...This is book 3 in the Towerfall series but it can 100% be read as a standalone.

This was not my favorite installment of the Towerfall series. As someone with a lack of knowledge of tarot cards, I found it hard to understand the progression of the story. Having looked up the wheel of fortune card, the only thing I see in this story is something cyclical - like how she is fortune and supposed to remember. Remember what? I think her past lives?
The FMC drove me absolutely bonkers about midway in the story. I couldn’t stand how much she back tracked on her feelings about Declan. He was incredibly patient and kind through all of it. I wish it was a bit more spicy than it was.

Fortune serves as the final installment in the Towerfall trilogy. The story follows Amanda Ward, a woman focused on manifestation, and venture capitalist Declan Thorne. During a date, a tarot ritual goes rogue, magically pulling them both into the Kingdom of Wands. To survive, Amanda claims to be a "Story Witch" with Declan as her loyal bodyguard. Their forced proximity sparks an undeniable attraction while they search for a way back home. Fortune is an entertaining, high-energy finale to the series. If you enjoy portal fantasy, tarot lore, and high-stakes romance, this conclusion is well worth the read.

This was such a unique take on a fantasy world relying on tarot cards and just everything that encompasses that. I loved the scene with Twilight - that brought a huge smile to my face. The Towerfall series is such a unique and twisty romantasy, and I was so pleasantly surprised that this book had the same vibes - romantasy romcom, funny but kept you on the edge of your seat - but the actual plot was different than the first two books. Every character is different, and seeing the character development between BOTH the MMC and FMC was such a journey. Also action packed enough that I finished this in literally two sittings. Loved it!

This was a cute book. It captures the online dating life ghat many millenials (me included) are going or went through. It was awesome to see it captured so well and made the fmc so much more relatable to me during the story! This story was cute, had a little whimsy, was so easy to follow, and made me really just enjoy reading without having to focus all my brain power i to plot and world building. I so enjoyed it!

Towerfall book 3, and I am. so invested in everything about it. The magick, the relationships, the whole world that Kristin has created. I love that Declan started off broody and softened so hard and so quickly for her. And the concept of Amanda and Fortune was SO beautiful, it made my heart truly happy, and was also a reminder to just be who I am, regardless of what anyone thinks. An absolutely amazing book!!

this was a hard one for me to rate because there were many elements i enjoyed, but also the two major plot points in the book felt very contrived to me, not organic, and being authentic was kind of the entire point of the book. i did love amanda and declan’s dynamic and enjoyed their banter! the idea of a fantasy world based on cards and performances was cool and unique!! this would be a 5 star read if those few plot points (nessa’s “accident” & declan’s “confession”) had more depth and meat to them!!

Every book in the Towerfall series keeps getting better and better! Seeing Amanda and Declan’s story grow as they navigate falling into a magickal kingdom is a light, fun, and spicy take on Romantasy. While both Amanda and Declan struggle to not fall back into their own self destructive habits as they fall for each other, they explore the Kingdom of Wands and its secrets.

This was unfortunately, not for me. The writing style constantly dragged me out of the story, the plot was so redundant I felt like nothing truly happened from start to finish, and there is no way you can convince me those two characters fell in love at all, let alone in a week.

This book built a world that felt immersive, interesting, and fully fleshed out despite being on the shorter side. I was blown away by the character development and was completely sucked into the world.
