She was mine until the moment I left. Now she’s got my son. My name in her mouth. And every reason to hate me.
I came back to bury my father. I didn’t expect to find her on that porch—with fire in her eyes and a six-year-old boy who looks exactly like me.
She thinks I’ll walk away again. She doesn’t know me anymore.
I’m not the man who left her to chase numbers and noise. I’m the man who will kneel in the snow, beg like a sinner, and burn every bridge I built to earn a second chance.
Because I missed six Christmases, six birthdays, six years of his life. Now I’m not missing a single second more.
Read on for secret babies, desperate grovels, Christmas Eve kisses, and an alpha who begs like a sinner on holy ground. HEA Guaranteed!
2.5✨ This isn’t exactly what I’d call a cheery Christmas book. Sure, there’s a HEA at the end, but there’s some yuck along the way. (Possible spoilers ahead)
H and h were childhood/highschool/college loves. 24 hours after he graduated college, he left the “love of his life” for the big city. Didn’t contact her in 7 years. *snorts hard* at the “love of his life* That is literally why he left. He had big dreams and didn’t want h with him. And he didn’t want to stay in their small town. Niceeeeee :/s
H has to return home because his mom broke her hip. Before he leaves, he KIND OF breaks up with his fuxk buddy, Dolly. He’s been dating her for 2 years and he has a successful company he runs in NYC. She works with him (and no, we don’t ever find out if she stays with the company later) Dolly is a little EXTRA. 🙃
h has a 6 year old son, who happens to look like H. 🤨🙄 H knows when he sees the kid, it’s his. h doesn’t deny it. Naturally, h is skeptical about H wanting to be involved in his son’s life. But it doesn’t take long for her body to betray her.
You can tell that H’s mom has been orchestrating their “get back together relationship” and she already suspected the kid was her grandson. Confused on why she wasn’t involved in his life before???
Anyway, while H and h are building their relationship back up, he is still *somewhat* talking to Dolly through texts and phone calls. Dolly is VERY pushy.
So, Dolly just shows up in town. H is trying to get her to leave and explaining to her that they are over, when h shows up after hearing rumors in town that H’s girlfriend is in town. Uh oh. 😰 H’s tower of cards is going to collapse. 🤪
h pulls up in the driveway where H and Dolly are talking. Dolly just told H she may be pregnant and he called her out for lying. Supposedly, they have not slept together in 3 months. Dolly starts to read off the texts H sent her while he’s been playing house with h. Yeah, it’s bad. He told Dolly in the text he couldn’t wait to be out of that town and he called her beautiful. 🙄 h leaves because she is F’ing devastated! H’s mom comes out of the house and slaps Dolly right across the face 😂😂😂
The fact is- he was sleeping with Dolly for 2 years. He was in a relationship with her. If there was no kid with h, I really believe he would have gone back to NYC with Dolly. He was a POS. He jumped right into a relationship with h, without ever telling her about Dolly. He was fuxking h, without protection, and still leading Dolly on. Yes, Dolly was clearly UNHINGED, but H kept leading her on.
H’s POV about Dolly —————-
“The caller ID makes my jaw clench. Dolly. My... whatever the hell she is. Was. Complicated doesn't begin to cover what we've been doing for the past two years.”
“Her voice drops to what she probably thinks is a seductive whisper. "I've been wearing that black dress you like. The one from Bergdorf's." Six months ago, that might have worked. Hell, three weeks ago it might have worked. —————— See…even his POV makes it seem like he would have hooked up with her 3 weeks ago.
It never said if h hooked up with anybody during their 7 years apart.
Ngl, I felt so much sadness reading h’s POV after she discovered H’s betrayal
“ i want to break something. The urge hits me suddenly and violently, a desperate need to destroy something beautiful and watch it shatter into pieces that match how I feel inside”
There wasn’t much groveling. H did some sorry excuse of an apology in front of the townsfolk.🤷♀️ She accepted quickly and they were talking about marriage and another kid soon after. 😩 oooohhhh yeah! He decided he could run his company remotely.
Not feeling the Christmas cheer after this. I would have felt much better if h beat H with the bat she threatened him with. 😂
Jackson was weak, immature and extremely selfish. I didn’t believe for a second that he loved Grace like she loved him. He just switched one convenience (Grace for Dolly, then Dolly for Grace again) for the other when it suited him. I couldn’t stand him and Grace was pathetic for just taking him back so easily. The blurb mentioned groveling but there was no groveling, just empty, pretty words that Grace wanted to believe because she refused to move on from this loser.
Jackson’s mom and Max did all the work for him and that was even more pathetic and annoying.
A story of the redemption of love. Jackson and Grace get a second chance at love. A secret child revealed. I loved everything about little Max. Max steals the show every time. Angsty and dramatic with lots of heartfelt moments. This definitely could be on the hallmark channel.
I liked this book! The writing was smooth and tight, the plot flowed and the characters interactions and feelings made the story. This is a pretty common trope, but the author infused it with feelings and dreams....and uncertainities. The H reurns home and finally realized that that was where he was the most alive, loved and secure, not his high power driven life in NY, He was lonely while aurrounded by thousands and thousands of people. The FMC had remained and had a secret baby knowing that if she told him he would marry out of obligation and likely feel trapped and cheated in the future...so she let him go.
His mother was a force of nature and got through to the OW where the H had not. Finally, the main charactters including his son got their acts together and had theior HEA for Christmas.
They were once in a relationship until Jackson wanted to go an explore his horizons leaving Grace back in his hometown along with a secret gift. He returns to look after his mother and learns about the son he never knew reconnecting him with his first love but when a woman appears in town saying she is his fiancé , it creates all kinds of trouble right when he and Grace were on solid grounds. Will he lose Grace once again.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Umm... I am not sure what audience was supposed to see in the main characters, but I saw a man that was extremely selfish, and weak in character. When he walked away, he wasn't a teenager and to have him return the way he did, was eww. I got the impression that the female lead waited for him for 7 years. WTH. It was weird that the grandmother kinda knew who Max was, but she never asked although she still had a relationship with Max's mom? I liked Max, he made sense.
The story progressed really well for a while, but ultimately the MMC gives her some pretty words, and even after she says pretty words won't work, they do. He never proves he will be there for her long term, never handles his job or their future. I'm pretty let down.
This was so magical and romantic. My favorite characters were definitely Mrs. Eleanor who didn’t play at all. And sweet perceptive Max. That child missed not single thing and really pushed them together. Beautiful story.
Oh Jackson. When he screws up he does it royally. Grace bless her heart has been through a lot and trusting Jackson was hard. Then he messed it up again. Watching him grovel was perfect. And Max made this book off the charts. He was precious.
I really enjoyed this book watching Jackson and Grace travel their winding road to finding their HEA. This is my first time reading this author and I will definitely recommend this book to everyone.
