A psychological thriller with dark twists and turns.
Another great book by C. L. Sutton that proves once again why this author is a must-read. I was pulled in from the very first chapter and completely invested until the very end. The story is packed with suspenseful twists that kept me guessing, and the pacing was absolutely perfect—never dragging, never rushed. The characters were so well written: the ones you root for, you really root for, and the ones you hate… you love to hate. Everything came together beautifully, tying up just right and leaving me beyond satisfied when I turned the final page.
This isn’t the first book by CL Sutton that I have had the pleasure of reading. My literary inclinations typically include works by authors such as Harlan Coben, Stephen King, Lee Child, Tom Clancy, Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen, Clive Cussler, Preston W. Child, C.L. Sutton, KB Fisher, Joe Talon, and Judah Lamb—the latter five of whom I recently discovered and are fast becoming amongst my favorite authors. I am particularly drawn to narratives that quickly captivate my attention and tend to avoid those with slow beginnings.
“Until Death” by C. L. Sutton is a dark and suspenseful thriller that delves into themes of greed, power, and the perilous lies individuals tell to achieve their desires. From the very beginning, the tension remains palpable, rendering the book nearly impossible to set down. The narrative is rife with betrayal and deception, compelling readers to consider how well one can truly know another person and the consequences of discovering one is already entrenched in a precarious situation.
The story is both twisty and unsettling, maintaining a gripping intensity until the final pages. This exceptional work by C. L. Sutton reinforces the author's status as a must-read. I was captivated from the first chapter and remained fully invested throughout. The plot is laden with suspenseful twists that kept me guessing, while the pacing struck a perfect balance—neither sluggish nor hurried. The characters are intricately crafted; those for whom you root evoke genuine empathy, while the antagonists are delightfully detestable. Ultimately, everything converges beautifully, culminating in a satisfying conclusion that left me thoroughly content upon finishing the book.
I received an advance review copy at no cost, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thanks to CL Sutton for the ARC. This is a voluntary review, reflecting my personal opinion.
Thank you to CL Sutton for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. It held my interest from beginning to end! I read it in one day. Theo Barrat wants to help his mother, who is drowning in debt. His sister Amy is desperate to have a baby and needs another round of IVF but does not have the money. The problem is Theo is barely making ends meet himself. He would love to move up the ladder in his job working for the terrifying William West. But how?? He has been in the same position for years now. One day Mr West calls Theo to his office. He would like Theo to meet Jessie. He would like them to date and keep him updated. Theo has a girlfriend who travels for work but feels this might be his chance for a better position. What follows is a gripping series of dark twists and turns and jaw dropping moments! Releases February 27, 2026. Preorder now!!
What would you do Money can make many people do things they would not do ordinarily. When you factor in that family members need more of that elusive money, more craziness can enter. Theo is a good guy with a sweet girl in his life. His job is ok, but he wants to go further and do more. When he gets a chance with a promotion and marrying a man (no, he's not gay, though) to get the money he wants to help his family, he does it! Now, if that is not strange enough, it gets very much deeper into the strange department. I will say that he 'bit off more' than he ever thought he would. This is a good story that kept my full attention throughout, wondering what could happen next! Thank you, C.L. Sutton, for a great story. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.
"Until Death" by C.L. Sutton has a unique plot twist that comes early on in the story. The entire narrative unfolds in the present day and is told exclusively through Theo's point of view, making it great for anyone who hates multiple POVs or timeline jumps. While the book is labeled as a psychological thriller, I do not find it particularly thrilling in the traditional sense. Instead, it reads much more like a suspense novel. The mysterious elements are strong, and the lingering sense of the unknown does a good job of keeping the reader engaged. The short chapters also help drive the narrative forward and keep the pacing brisk without relying on constant, high-octane shock value. It's a decent read for someone who wants something a little different.
Wow! What a rollercoaster of a book this was and I loved every minute of it. For Theo to get ahead in the West Company he did many things the wrong way. Mr West humored him and could be a harsh man at times. Theo kept working trying to get the attention so he could get ahead. Ahead of bills, ahead in life, ahead to help family. Then with one slip an argument with a gay friend at a Grand party and suddenly Theo was noticed but not in the way he wanted to be noticed. Mr West noticed Theo then and had a proposition for him. When he sat Theo down and offered this to him, Theo jumped at the chance. Theo just didn't realize he was jumping into quicksand with no rescue in sight. If you love books that keep you guessing, if you love Thrillers, you will love this book by C.L. Sutton.
What do you do when a lifeline is dangled in front of your eyes! Make a deal with the devil obviously. Theo is stuck in the worst way, needing a promotion at work, mum’s overwhelming debt hanging over his head, sister unable to afford IVF any longer. So he does something that is truly out of character. He decides to date someone for money. Not any someone though, the child of billionaire Mr West who also happens to be his boss.
Oh boy! This was a rollercoaster. Just when I thought I had it worked out something else would happen to throw a spanner in the works. Great story. Would recommend to fans of psychological thrillers.
I read this book voluntarily for an honest review.
Spectacularly amazing read!! What kind of unhinged violent psycho did Theo get mixed up with? The killer really was a serial killer. Planned and premeditated acts.of violence that made my stomach turn sour! I kept hoping against hope that someone would stop this killer, and sadly they died as they lived- violently!! This was such a gripping, compelling read, that I couldn't look away!! Sutton has outdone herself with this one!!
Until Death was a wonderful twist and turn story with so many family problems and baggage that does not stay in the past. It is an exciting story with secrets and lies that haunt everyone in the book. The characters are relatable to those you see everyday, from the hard working Theo to the protected wealthy son, Jessie. This was an easy read that kept you intralled and turning pages.
This was a complimentary ARC read that I reviewed voluntarily.
This is my first time reading a book from this author but definitely not my last after reading this masterpiece. From start this book was packed with suspense. The characters were well crafted which helped the story flow with ease. The plot thickened with every page turn. The tension kept me on edge and the twist... WOW!! This story keeps you thinking just how far would someone go for family.
Thank you C.L. Sutton and Bookfunnel for the eARC. This review is that of my own.
C. L. Sutton is a talented author, new to me; but I will be reading many more of their books in the future. This psychological thriller is a dandy. Kept me up late to get the twists and turns of the plot development pulled straight. A new surprise at each turn of the page kept the reader engaged and wondering what comes next. Diabolical pretty much covers it!
Until Death is a seriously gripping psychological thriller that pulls you in fast and doesn’t let go. From the start, there’s this constant sense of tension that keeps building, making it really hard to put the book down.
The characters are messy, complex, and honestly a bit unsettling in the best way. Just when you think you’ve worked things out, the story throws another twist at you and makes you question everything. The pacing is spot on, and the suspense just keeps ramping up as the story goes on.
C. L. Sutton does a great job creating a dark, creepy atmosphere without relying on over-the-top shocks. The story really sticks with you, even after you’ve finished reading (I finished it in one night!)
If you like thrillers that mess with your head and keep you guessing, Until Death is definitely worth the read.
This is a razor-edged descent into greed, power, and the price of desperation. C.L. Sutton crafts a suffocating atmosphere where charm curdles into menace and survival is never guaranteed. Twisty, brutal, and dripping with unease, this is a thriller that makes “happily ever after” feel like the most dangerous lie of all.
Absolutely amazing book. its been a long time since a book has had me hooked from the first page and I just couldnt put it down. It was a very unique plot (for me at least) and made for a refreshing read.
Theo thinks getting married for money to get his family out of debt is a good idea. Then he finds out that he’s trapped. He’s married into a dangerous family and someone may die.
I really enjoyed this one! An addictive thriller with an astonishing twist!!! Five stars!
Loved this book! Such an intriguing story line! Kept me guessing and wanting to read on.... ended up reading in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed! Would definitely recommend
A great book full of twists that you didn't expect coming. I was kept at the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. Can't wait to read another book by C.L. Sutton.
This was a great read with tension throughout. From the description you already know the marriage is going to be toxic. There were still major twists in there that I didn’t see coming or guess.
A whirlwind relationship. Amazing what someone will do for greed. Greed was done in two ways. One for self gain the other for self gain and gain for other’s.
“Until Death” by C. L. Sutton is a dark, suspenseful thriller that explores greed, power, and the dangerous lies people tell to get what they want. From the start, the tension never lets up. I couldn’t put this one down. The story is filled with betrayal and deception, constantly asking how well you can ever truly know someone, and what happens when you realize you’re already in too deep. Twisty, unsettling, and gripping until the very end.
How far would you go to help your family financially? Theo thinks he knows how far he would go, until he meets Jessie. Every time Theo has reached his limit…the goal posts move. This domestic thriller takes you on a wild ride that will have you questioning…how far would I go? For me, not this far! Another great thriller like only C.L. can deliver.
