She’s the one that got away. This Christmas, with my 80-year-old grandmother as my wingman, I'm getting her back.
PAIGE
I’m a dog trainer. I can teach any unruly pup to sit, stay, and not eat the furniture. My ex-boyfriend, however, is a whole other breed. A year ago, Josh became a millionaire after creating a wildly popular video game...about dogs. My idea, by the way. I took one look at his new bank account and ran—all the way to another continent.
Now I’m home for Christmas, and his matchmaking Nana has decided it's time for a reunion. She’s deploying her secret weapon (a guilt-inducing collie) and hiding cookies in the frozen vegetable bag. She's nuts. But the way Josh still looks at me—like he remembers every stupid word I ever made up—makes me wonder if I'm the crazy one for ever leaving.
JOSH
My girlfriend—the only woman who truly understands that dogs are better than people—gave me the idea for a game that made me millions. And then she left me. Says I can’t use my money to take care of her.
Now she's back, and my 80-year-old grandmother is playing puppet master with our lives. Paige says she’s leaving after the holidays, but I see through her tough-girl act. She’s the one who got away, and I was a fool to let her go. Nana's methods may be chaotic, but she's right about one Paige belongs with me. And this time, I’m not taking no for an answer.
This holiday season, a meddling grandma, a virtual dog, and two stubborn exes are about to learn that when it comes to love, there's no such thing as a second take. Get ready for a story that's steamy, hilarious, and full of heart.
Danika Bloom writes small-town (and small city) rom-coms where love gets wonderfully weird and family is whoever shows up with snacks during your breakdown. She's obsessed with the bizarre little rituals couples develop—because honestly, isn't declaring your feelings through origami made from grocery receipts more romantic than basic flower delivery?
When she's not writing stories about found families and the beautifully strange ways people connect, she's probably taste-testing a new baked good recipe her retired husband has made to lure her from her office.
Absolutely fell in love with Josh and Paige’s story. A really enjoyed this lovely second chances story. That nana of Josh’s sure knows how to get her way. She was very sneaky in getting these two in the same room. Sadly a medical issue nana had required Paige to stay with her , which would give her some time with Josh. There was a lot of second chances in this book, like Paige and her father and even Josh’s father and Paige. Not only that but an opportunity to earn millions thanks to Josh and his game making brain and of course his tech savvy mind and Paige’s love of dogs. I just loved this even more because of the dogs and even said Christmas song of puppies are forever. It was a rather lovely story and the narrators were perfection with all these amazing characters. It was a pleasure to listen to them . All in all it was fabulous!
This is the second chance story of FMC dog trainer Paige and MMC video game developer Josh. Paige and Josh were childhood friends and high school sweethearts. Paige didn’t have an easy time growing up and Josh had a welcoming, wonderful family who accepted Paige as one of their own (well, except for Josh’s dad for a while). Paige has been living in London for work and is home for the holidays. She is welcomed by Josh’s family who want to see Paige and Josh back together. Paige and her mom didn’t have it easy after her dad left them and Paige still watches every penny she earns. Josh, meanwhile, has made and is making millions and Paige’s ideas are part of the reason why. Josh’s sweet, spunky grandma does some meddling and Josh and Paige initially agree to a “let’s have fun for two weeks” arrangement because they had amazing physical chemistry. That soon turns into back together and a whirlwind wedding on NYE. Laura Jennngs and Chip Hurley did a great job with the narration and really embodied these characters. I did have a bit of trouble getting into this story and that may come from not having read the first couple books in the series. In the end I enjoyed it and I liked the unique twist on the NYE weddng.
Paige and Josh had a breakup over a year ago. Josh ended things with Paige over the phone after distance and disagreements over finances, proved too much to overcome. Now over a year later, Paige has come home for the holidays and has been summoned by Josh’s meddling Nana, who was determined to get them back together.
I absolutely loved this story! First, I was immediately drawn into the story by the narrators, Laura Jennings and Chip Hurley. This is a holiday second chance romance that has a lot of interesting storylines. This story showed that even the most committed couples can let miscommunication and distance drive them apart. The book also did a great job explaining why both Josh and Paige couldn’t overcome their individual issues. In the end, neither person was entirely at fault, and that resonated with me. I’m a big fan of second-chance romance, and this one had a lot of interesting nuances that kept me engaged. It was a great listen and a very entertaining holiday read with just the right amount of spice.
Paige has always loved Josh however her insecurities about their very different financial situations created a rift between them. Due to what happened with her parents she believed she needed to be able to support herself even if that meant leaving town to pursue her career. She has returned home to spend Christmas with her mother before leaving again however seeing Josh again brings up all the feelings she still has for him.
Josh was hurt when Paige didn’t trust him to be there for her and believes she chose her career over him. He is surprised to see her again and he realizes that the love between them hasn’t diminished over time but will this be their second chance or will she leave him for a second time?
I enjoyed seeing Paige and Josh work through the events of the past and they had the best matchmakers in his nana and her family. Chip Hurley was a great choice for Josh as we get to feel his emotions while Laura Jennings gives us insight into why Paige makes the decisions she does.
This was a wonderful audiobook production, narrated by Laura Jennings and Chip Hurley. These narrators were both new to me, and I thought they did an excellent job. Both of them matched their voices to my mental "soundscape" of what the main characters should sound like. They expressed all the humor and all the drama that Ms. Bloom put on the page. I thought this was an incredibly creative story, not just in its plot events, but in things like Paige's made up words and the discussion of comparing human personalities to various dog breeds - such fun! Paige and Josh did a lot of growing up and learning to communicate in this story, and all of it was very convincing and well written. There are plenty more amazing and surprising moments as the story proceeds, but I don't want to give too much away. Even if you have already read the novel in print, the audiobook is terrific and worth a revisit!
I was given an ALC and volunteered to write a review.
Audio Review: Merry With The Millionaire is Josh and Paige’s best friend’s to lovers and second chance love story. It’s book three is The Mixed Pack Series and it didn’t take me long to become invested in this entertaining listen. First time around Paige put her job ahead of Josh and that lead to him letting her go but now a couple of years later she is back home looking to settle down. Has fate given them a second chance and will they get their priorities on the same line and give love a chance……. This is an entertaining and engaging listen, it’s a story about second chances and communication. I loved the characters, the chemistry is steamy, the journey emotional and the banter is witty. Laura Jennings and Chip Hurley did a great job br nging the characters and their story to life.
Third Party: Merry with the Millionaire is the third book in The Mixed Six-Pack series. This book can be read as a standalone. Paige was the one that got away. Paige and Josh grew up together. Then later in high school they dated. They were very much in love. Paige had a rough childhood after her dad left. Now several years later Josh is visiting back home for the holidays. He is a millionaire living in London. Paige is a dog trainer. Josh’s grandma decided to do a little meddling of her own. They decided to just enjoy each other for a few weeks, but feelings start ramping up. I really enjoyed this book.
Laura Jennings and Chip Hurley did a great job narrating this book.
This is my second Danika Bloom’s book and I’m obsessed with this series. I need them all on audio. Love this story. It was different and special, definitely a great second chance romance. With fur babies and everything. Great narration for sure. Love them both, the narrators and the MCs. Paige and Josh are perfect for each other, the first time and the second time even better. Their chemistry is so good. Love how they fall in love with each other again, how this time they take the challenge to make things possible. Nana’s is the best wingman for sure, love her. Love all Josh siblings and can’t wait to read/listen to them all.
Paige and Josh are complicated characters. They both have issues that keep them from fully committing even though they love each other very much. Their time apart helps them to grow up a bit and focus on what's important. I didn't love every part of this, but I did appreciate they way they worked together to resolve their issues because it felt that they had a solid foundation by the end of the book. I enjoyed these narrators. They matched their characters perfectly, and they did a good job with the emotion of the story.
I love a meddling Nana and Josh's Nana just took my top spot. Josh and Paige were meant to be together and Nana set out to make it happen. This was such a sweet second chance romance that completely warmed my heart just in time for Christmas. Laura Jennings and Chip Hurley were both new to me narrators and I really enjoyed their duet narration of Paige and Josh. Their voices were both engaging and really kept me immersed in the story. They made me fall even more in love with Josh and Paige (and their family, especially Nana) as they found their way back to one another.
Second chance romances fill my heart with so much joy it is almost difficult to express in words! Although not every single nuance of this story was perfection for me, the growth that both Paige and Josh worked through together to hurdle through their past circumstances was beautifully done and unfolded very organically and realistically! Their story put a huge smile on my face and made my heart very happy for the most part.
🎙️The dual narration performance by 🎤Laura Jennigs & Chip Hurley🎤 was smooth and flawless. They worked really well together, and their voices had a level of versatility that matched each other well when doing other voices. That’s my sweet spot with a DUAL narration. I can’t tell you how often I have been sidetracked while listening to an audiobook because the narrators don’t match even a little bit! LOL When I say it can ruin an experience; I’m not even exaggerating! Laura and Chip were practically seamless and elevated the #feels in the story really well!
This is my second experience with a Danika story and a first for narrators Laura & Chip and I hope to read a lot more from Danika and listen to these two very talented narrators in the near future!
