The Revenge Playlist is a collection of short stories from the Paradise Falls and Demonic Disasters Universe.
Corporate Retreats, Romance, and Revenge: (Previously published in Demonic Disasters Collection) Adam and Minos are happily mated, and they’re dealing with a leadership team corporate retreat (apparently dodgeball between angels and demons is not a good idea). When a cutie angel and scowly demon show up with some unexpected news, Adam and Minos are faced with some tough decisions. What would be the best revenge for Adam’s cheating ex
Some People Never Learn: (Previously released) Jon’s ex boyfriend, Marcus, was a narcissistic jerk who liked to show up and boss him around even after they broke up. Jon has gained confidence and a demonic soulmate, though (even if his soulmate was masquerading as a pet frog, but that’s another story). When Marcus shows up this time, Jon won’t be bossed around. Now if only he can keep Beel from breaking the shop’s merchandise or getting blood stains all over…
Revenge Is Best Served Family Style: Josh was abused by his ex-boyfriend, but he moved on and has no need for revenge. That doesn’t mean his entire family of hellhounds has gotten over it, though. Thea decides to take matters into her own hands, especially since Rick seems to be up to no good once again. What she doesn’t count into her plan is a group of meddling brothers.
Everyone loves to get involved in a nice revenge plot; Adam is totally adopting Cutie and Scowly; A severed hand is not a decorative item; Please keep the bloodstains to a minimum; Brothers are annoying (but also sort of sweet); Sometimes bad things happen to bad people.
Corporate Retreats, Romance, and Revenge. Adam and Minos are too over the top and their constant humping is creepy. I do like Curly and Scowly, but Adam ordering them to get together really kills the whole "free will" vibe.
Revenge Is a Family Affair. The whole. "I am a serial killer who only kills and tortures evil people," thing is never less wrong. This story was super creepy and absolutely about a serial killer. Thea is absolutely messed up. She killed outside the parameters of hellhound job, and she liked it - she was willing to kill outside the parameters of "irredeamable" required for hellhounds, which was the only thing that made the hellhounds at all something that I was able to read.

These short stories are perfect for getting an extra dose of those you wished would get their comeuppance and totally enjoying the outcome! Perfect! As always, Shannon, you’re awesome! Thanks for the best stories I’ve ever read!
All the bonus-y goodness in one delicious place. The first two stories were not new to me, but I did enjoy revisiting Minos and Adam, and Jon and Beel and reliving their revenge on the exes. Best of all was a new revenge story. Thea, is not quite a hellhound and doesn't really feel the restraints the others do and has no problem taking a little revenge on Rick, Josh's ex, even though he isn't a hellhound soul. Short, sweet and very violent. I loved it. 4.5* overall
1. “Corporate Retreats, Romance, and Revenge” (Adam and Minos) - extremely bad. I had not read the novel about these characters, and never intend to do so.
- Adam is an absolutely idiotic character (probably even worse one than Johann/Jay from Grae Bryan’s “Vampire’s Mate” series, who has similar character traits). I literally felt nauseated whenever he was on page, which was, unfortunately, almost all of the time.
- I wanted to give up on the story and the book, but decided to persevere because I liked Cutie and Scowly from “The Sea Monsters, etc.” and wanted to see their first appearance in the series. Well, surprise, surprise, their arc in this story and the one in “The Sea Monsters” don’t actually fit together - as in, the author broke her own continuity, because in the novel, they are shocked to see an angel and a demon as a romantic couple, acting as if the idea of romance (or physical intimacy) has never occurred to them before, while in this story, they’re basically given an “official” mandate to go and hook up (by Adam, yes).
- Anyway, the story is badly written from the technical point of view, is empty, has no redeeming qualities, and I hated it.
- The only things that were good here:
— Tim (the cheating ex) pointing out that Adam’s car accident (in which he died) was the result of Adam deciding to get behind the steering wheel while extremely upset, despite having been warned about his careless driving before. So, no, blaming the ex for the car crash shouldn’t fly here.
— The nameless “lesser demon”’s reactions to Tim’s complete lack of self-awareness during his rant. That was actually funny.
2. “Some People Never Learn” (Jon and Beel) - okay-ish. Too violent, which is not in line with Jon’s character, revenge or not. And I could have done with fewer mentions (or none) of bodily fluids being expelled during torture.
3. “Revenge is a Family Affair” (Thea and the rest of the Hellhounds) - good. The only story here that was worth the read. I didn’t like the “brothers” imposing on Thea at first, but their interactions were funny. The torture was way too short and light. It was good that Thea got a night out on her own in the end. My main issue here was that the criteria for someone being “hellbound” seemed too arbitrary. In the case of someone like Rick - the guy is literally hurting people, physically, with full knowledge of what he’s doing, with forethought, planning, grooming, etc. Why wouldn’t he qualify as evil? But anyway, that’s a philosophical discussion where the author and I clearly don’t agree. The whole scene with Thea trying to talk Rick into addressing his “childhood trauma” and Rick actually telling her (someone who had previously kidnapped him, tortured him, and been discussing killing him) that he liked his ways and would stick to them - it came off as too ridiculous, i.e. staged, full of cliched psychoanalysis bits, and simply a device to get Thea to the decision she needed to make.
While I did enjoy getting further tales of peeps from stories I enjoyed, I'm not really a vengeful person so the revenge portion of this didn't really hit. Still, I got 3 stars of enjoyment out of seeing some characters I enjoyed again.
This was a great book! I loved reliving the characters I enjoyed reading about and their revenges. This collection has a great cast and was a fun read. Definitely recommend!
