Lila marries billionaire Adrian Kryos after he promises protection, only to discover he treats their vows like a disposable accessory—flaunting affairs with the kind of women who smirk at her from his penthouse elevators. When he coldly files for divorce the moment his ex slinks back into his life, Lila signs without a word… and Adrian assumes the quiet wife he betrayed will fade into nothing. But she returns draped in danger, power, and an identity he never knew she had—the seductive, anonymous investor dismantling his companies one by one, while Adrian finds himself obsessing over the woman he so easily threw away. Because the ex-wife he underestimated isn’t back for reconciliation. She’s back to ruin him—slowly, beautifully, and on her terms.
This is a really complex plot, along with a hugely complicated character backstory. Especially for Lila, the FMC. Her husband, Adrian, divorces her after four years of marriage because his first wife comes back. And eventually we learn that he doesn’t know how to love someone that wants nothing from him, which sounds like total nonsense. What he really is, is a coward.
This was good but it’s still a solid three stars in my opinion.
This was a good page-turning story regarding the main couple and their divorce, and the revenge the MMC goes through. The story has a little bit of suspense (nothing huge). This story ends with an HFN.
Quotes I gained from the book: “Ah. The ex-husband soundtrack begins.”
"And tonight, the sky is splitting open above the city like God finally lost His temper."
“You should never go to war with someone who has nothing left to lose.”
From start to finish this book intrigued me. It moved with the need to know how a life with in a life of platitudes and untold history turned Revenge, into a lasting relationship and losing everything.
