HOMEWRECKERS totally subverted my expectations and delivered one of Aron Beauregard's most creatively interesting stories. It's soul-crushingly dark, it's bloodsoaked and brutal, but it's also full of inventive and twisted concepts that make it totally unique. Don't sleep on this one.
I also think it has its own "Page 40" moment, which comes in at page 86 in the deluxe hardcover edition...

I really enjoyed this story. It wasn't your typical Beauregard read, don't get me wrong there were scenes of gore and depravity, but I found most of that happened toward the last quarter of the book...
Meet Bruce and Liv, a couple that already had a strained relationship, like most with small children...When their son Dustin was 4, they helped Liv's mom move into her new home and stayed the night in the creepy house where an unspeakable, horrific thing happened in the basement of Alice's new home.
Something Dustin saw down in that basement changed their lives forever. Now a teenager, Dustin is a menace and nothing Bruce and Liv did seemed to help him, until one day while Live was searching for help online, she stumbled upon an ad for Marta, a behavioral therapist who specializes in child therapy.
Liv and Bruce thought they found the answer to helping their son get on the right track, but boy were they in for a treat that they weren't expecting. Be careful what you wish for, because it may just turn around and bite you in the ass...

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy from Aron and have been anxiously waiting months to post this review! Let’s dig in shall we?
Aron Beauregard continues to prove that he doesn’t just write extreme horror…he writes deeply uncomfortable family tragedy disguised as splatter. Homewreckers feels like watching a marriage rot from the inside out while everyone pretends everything is fine…except for the fourteen-year-old son who’s rapidly becoming a fucking monster.
This book might look like a shock-piece to some, but what genuinely unnerved me was not the violence, it was how realistically Beauregard captures a family barely keeping themselves together. Bruce and Liv are already falling apart before the story even begins, and their son Dustin becomes the gravitational center of every problem they refuse to face. Aron balances pitch-black humor with truly unsettling escalation. Dustin’s obsession with choking is bizarre, disturbing, and uncomfortable in a way that feels more psychological than purely exploitative.
There’s also a surprising emotional weight here. Liv’s insecurities, Bruce’s total detachment, and Dustin’s unpredictable spiral feel tragic rather than simply cartoonishly evil. Underneath the graphic content, this is a story about a sexless, exhausted marriage and parents who don’t know how to love a child they’re terrified of.
If you’re already familiar with Beauregard, you’ll know the warning label isn’t a joke. There are scenes that are revolting, cruel, and flat-out bleak, but the family dynamic kept me glued in a different way. It reads like extreme horror disguised as a depressing domestic drama, and somehow that combination is what makes it feel especially rotten.
Disturbing, uncomfortable, and more tragic than you’d expect. Beauregard continues to push extreme horror into deeply personal territory, and this is one of his most unsettling family stories so far.

Well damn, this book seriously kicks the front door in and never intends to tell you its gonna set roots instead of being a guest! It’s a well rounded, brutal and honestly unhinged in the best and worst kind of way read. There’s this nasty, mean spirited fun to it, crossing lines and smirks while doing so without hesitation or regret. And through the black magic, betrayel, lies, emotional turmoil, blood, guts, gore and more? A bittersweetness managed to linger where it was sprinkled into the chaos that I thoroughly enjoyed. I had a hard time getting into it. I found the start of the book pretty confusing. It felt like the story hopped all over the place, and was pretty incoherent and plain. But the more it continued, the more it sucked me in. The last quarter more than made up for the first part. I really liked how the story unfolded - it's safe to say it went in an unexpected direction.

Was expecting something to happen from other of Aron's works that I used to read. But man was I wrong. Beauregard proves time again how much talent he has as a writer and how the story grips you in multiple ways. Not only did it threw things that caught me off guard, but it genuinely spark my curiosity for sure. Definitely different from what he usually writes, but loved the direction this took.

was so so so excited as I received a “deluxe package” for this book as a gift BUT - I….. hated this book.
this was my first book by this author (i’m well versed in so
platterpunk/horror not my first if this genre) but when I say we lost the plot… we lost it. the turns & twist & disgusting add ins - were simply that. nothing added to the plot in the grand scheme of things & by the end it had turn so many random ways I was thankful to be done with the book

Between publishing the long awaited Playground prequel, a lengthy contribution to “The Ugly Truth” novella-collection, as well as putting out his most ambitious novel to date in the form of “Handyman,” it seemed unlikely to expect ANOTHER release from Aron Beauregard before the end of 2025 - even considering his highly prolific nature - and yet here we are. I’ve enjoyed AB’s additions to the extreme horror lexicon this year, and thankfully “Homewreckers” continues that trend.
While I think the plot (or more specifically the way it unravels) is one of his best and won’t give it away, I’ll just say it takes some cues from Handyman’s possession-horror but cranks it up to 11. I am enjoying a lot of the familial themes in AB’s more recent releases, and find that out of all of them, this book may have the heaviest drama between its characters, which really amps up the story’s tension - especially during its quieter moments. Everything still takes place in the elevated, hyper-realized, ultra-violent dimension that these types of books usually do, but I found myself actively wanting these characters to recover from their mistakes and make better choices, which frankly isn’t something I can say for most of the books in this style! It made the moments of inevitable pain hit even harder (after all this IS an Aron Beauregard novel), but I found that the titular ‘homewreckers’ aren’t just people - they are also substances, destructive behaviors, negative thoughts - anything that can drive a wedge into and infect a family.
That’s not to say there isn’t insane violence and bloodshed. But that’s what’s advertised. This is a book that gave me what was advertised and then some, and for that it has my respect. I think “Handyman” may edge it out by a hair for me personally, but “Homewreckers” is still a great entry in Beauregard’s bibliography, and one that marks his continued improvement as a skilled practitioner of the craft.

The family settles in for the night, thinking about the long drive home in the morning when tragedy strikes. Ten years go by, and the couple is barely holding on. Dustin is now an emotionally cold teenage menace with a bizarre obsession with choking.
The author has crafted a world that seems drained of warmth, where every interaction hints at something fractured beneath the surface. What makes the book so compelling is not shock value, but the slow, suffocating realization that safety is an illusion and hope is a fragile currency. The characters navigate a landscape defined by desperation, and the tension comes not from graphic detail, even though there is some present, but from the sense that something irrevocable is always one step away.
Despite its bleakness, the novel is strangely mesmerizing, an exercise in how despair can be used as a narrative rather than a gimmick. You see evidence throughout of despair being used to control and create atmosphere, creeping in through the edges of a scene rather than erupting into chaos. The result is a beautifully controlled descent into emotional disintegration. It’s both a gripping and grim experience and an easy five-star read for anyone who appreciates fiction that leans into its own darkness with intention and skill. Homewreckers 😱
Firstly thank you so much to AB for sending me the audible code for this! I’ve been so excited for the release & over the moon I got to read it early. Secondly, WOW, I can honestly say I did not know what direction this was going to go in & It’s unlike ANYTHING I’ve read by Aron before!
Bruce and Liv used to have the perfect little family life, in a loving relationship with a happy outgoing son they couldn’t have been any happier, but after a tragic & insane incident everything changes in the worse way.
Their lovely little Dustin has turned into a psychotic monster, obsessed with the worse acts & intent on ruining everything he touches, he’s running rings around them, they’re struggling to stay afloat. Life isn’t the same, their relationship is deteriorating & after Dustin’s school call to say they’re washing their hands with him they’re referred to a specialist for Dustin.
It’s here where Marta enters, the miracle worker! Within weeks Dustin seems back to his old self, Liv & Bruce are so grateful (Bruce a little more than Liv 🙄) but all is not what it seems…Marta’s intentions are a lot more sinister, she has control over the shadows & soon enough over Bruce too 🫣

I can genuinely say I did not predict a single bit of this! The layers, the dark supernatural elements & the ending 😱 oh it was AMAZING!! It gave me a bit of ‘behind her eyes’ vibes but obvs more gore & so much more intense!!

this was weird, and wild. it was such a unique and fun story.
the only thing i didn’t care for in this, were the sex scenes. not that i’m churchy or anything, i just found them to be written like a middle school boys crush fantasies… coming from a ex middle school boy myself LOL
“When Bruce got into the shower, he noticed his c*ck had some extra girth.”
and personally, AGAIN i’m NOT churchy… but the sexual content in this kind of threw me off because i was expecting just straight up horror and gore.
speaking of gore, this book didn’t have as much gore as i was expecting, but there was a heavy gore scene nearing the end.
however, there were gross and disturbing factors other than gore. which i enjoyed that the author didn’t use only gore to shock and used more supernatural elements instead… and some vomit elements..

It comes as no surprise that one of my top reads of 2025 happens to be an Aron Beauregard novel. Given that the title is indicative of one of my very few triggers, I went into this one thinking it may not be for me, but I also knew I needed to give it a try. I'm glad I did, because I absolutely loved it.
Homewreckers is some of Aron's tightest writing yet. It's deep, punchy, well paced, and vile. The story mainly focuses on Liv and Bruce as they navigate an absolutely horrific home life brought to them by their demented son, Dustin. Fueled by pharmaceuticals that keep reality far at bay, their relationship is reaching its maximum tension. There was a lot of vivid imagery in this one, but not all of it was focused on the gore. The way the story is told is heavy with grief and torment and shows the humanity in our main characters and how life struggles can take a serious toll on a relationship. The paranormal elements in this one were simultaneously subtle AND in your face. A lot of times they felt like a way to physically show the hell this family endured and I really enjoyed that. The last thing I'll say is that this one went to so many unexpected places and I never saw the ending coming. Absolutely phenomenal!

Aron said this was dark. That was generous. This book is foul. It doesn’t scare you, it degrades you. It grabs you by the throat, shoves your face into a cursed basement, and makes you watch a family implode while whispering “this is your fault for reading.”
Bruce and Liv are a marriage stitched together with denial, resentment, and the absolute audacity of thinking love survives unchecked rot. Postpartum body horror? Front and center. A mother tearing herself apart trying to save her kid? Brutal. A husband led entirely by the useless meat between his legs? Disgustingly accurate. Add cheating, addiction, overwhelmed mom, dad who simply doesn’t give a shit & emotional neglect, and you’ve got a domestic hell.
Their kid sees something unspeakable in that basement and ten years later he’s a cold, choking(not the good kind either ) -obsessed nightmare and everyone’s acting shocked like trauma doesn’t grow teeth and come back hungry.
This isn’t “scary.” This is slow, & suffocating . Watching this family pretend they’re fine is the real violence. Throw in a sketchy therapist and boom—worst timeline unlocked, no save file.
Vile. Cruel. Emotionally toxic. Five stars. Read it if you like your horror miserable, punishing, and actively judging you for thinking this would be fun.

For some time, I’ve been insistent that Aron Beauregard is a much better writer than he’s given credit for, and Homewreckers seems like a huge turning point in his catalogue. This one is much more atmospheric and suspenseful than his previous books, with a lot of the tension coming from the bad decisions these characters make as a result of the awful situation they’re stuck in. The gross-out moments feel much more impactful this time around because every one of them has a consequence. And of course, it still has the darkly comedic edge that makes Aron’s books so much fun, but the subtlety in this one goes a long way. It reminded me a lot of something Bentley Little would write.
I also really liked the unique take on possession that the novel used, especially when it all goes crazy in the third act. I hope Aron writes more on the concept, as there’s a lot of potential there. The main reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is the character of Marta, who although clearly has some depth hinted at in a few lines, just reads as really inconsistent and all over the place, and kinda just takes away screentime from the better characters.
Overall, with this and Child of Divorce a few months ago, Aron Beauregard has really been on a winning streak. Definitely give Homewreckers a read

This has to be one of my favourite Aron Beauregard books as a today. I am writing this review at 3:05 straight after finishing it.
I took my time to read this book since I enjoyed it so much that I just didn’t want it to end. This book is very different I feel compared to the other work Aron does like it isn’t as gory as the others and it really plays on the build up with a lot of suspense, and distressing detail.
I really recommend looking at trigger warnings if you are gonna read this book like I work recommend you do with any other extreme horror book.
I put this as my top number one book beating Slugs by Shaun Hutson which was my first intro into horror as a kid, which I would say is a massive achievement.
This book really follows a path a depravity and distressing content. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I recommend getting this in hardback edition so you can watch the nightmare videos. I really hope for another story based in the Homewreckers world

Another great read from Aron Beauregard. Admittedly, I have a love–hate relationship with his work, yet I keep coming back. It’s exactly what you’d expect from him: depraved, disgusting, and somehow intriguing enough that you can’t put it down.
This one was genuinely fun, with many unexpected plot twists, just as other reviewers mentioned. I finished it in two days. Liv and Bruce, the protagonists, are highly sympathetic characters—you empathize with them, root for them, and genuinely want to see them succeed. They’re written exceptionally well, flawed just enough to feel fully human.
At first, the antagonist appears to be their son, but midway through the book you’re introduced to the true antagonist, Marta. She initially seems well-intentioned, but it quickly becomes clear that she has an agenda of her own. Every aspect of the plot, from start to finish, ties together beautifully by the end.
I highly recommend this book, especially if you’re new to Beauregard or splatterpunk in general.

My first book by Aron, was many years ago, when I stumbled across The Slob, not too long after its release. I was completely blown away by the ferociousness of his writing and have since gone on to read almost everything he has produced so far.
I love Aron's exploration of the genre, it's always nasty AF, but he always manages to come up with so many fresh ideas to keep fans hooked: Homewreckers is no exception! Read the synopsis if you want a full explanation, but basically, the lives of a family are turned upside down after an undiscovered supernatural event that happens in the first chapter. The twists and turns that unfold are brilliant, and just when you think you've got things worked out, Aron hurls another blood-splatered curve ball at your head!
An absolute brutal page-turner, 5/5 all the way (and I try to refrain from handing these out so easily).

This wasn’t like any of his other books, it didn’t have much gore into it until towards the end. It’s more supernatural based which I enjoyed.
You get told throughout the book how this entity took over their son and he’s not the same boy he was when Livs mum based away and he got the dark entity forded upon him. Through out the book, you get shown how its effect Bruce and Liv. Not only their marriage was broken, but the family was too due to it. You feel for all the characters, what they’ve been through and are going through in this book.
The ending got me by surprise, I didn’t expect it. It was well deserved by my eyes, but you can’t help but feel for Dustin because he never got the life he deserved for the past 10-15 years and towards the end of it he does, until another entity shows up. I hope this book gets a sequel to show what happens to him.

I'm in my room in the dark. Fans going. Wrapped in blankets with my kindle scribe propped up on its pillow. Wireless page turner in my hand. Ready to be scared. Was NOT expecting a JUMP SCARE! I've never turned pages looking between my fingers like I do when I watch a scary movie!! Did I skip pages? Yes. I can't do animal cruelty/death. (I work in an animal shelter) so if you are sensitive to that, you'll see it coming from a mile away and will be able to skip it if you choose to. This was the fun, over the top, gore fest I look for when I'm in the mood for splatter!

Good easy read
This was a good fast paced easy read. A normal family, happy and loving. When a death in the family happens and everything changes. Once a normal loving family, now a disturbing pattern of hate loathing and depression. Will it ever end? Can anyone help them? Only the pages can tell. Exciting and bloody with some great plot twists you won't want to miss. Another great read from this author. Recommended.

Bruce, Liv and Dustin are helping Alice move house. The house though… well the house has its own story and that story leaves its mark on Bruce and Liv’s son Dustin.
This story unfolds into a paranormal horror. There are scenes that left me wincing and feeling too much. The story flowed really really well and I loved the short chapters. I really loved the change of pace with this book. An injection of emotion in terms of familial love made the whole story more impactful. I loved this one!

After reading "Yellow", "The Slob" & "Son of the Slob," "Playground" & "Playground: Child of Divorce," I had no idea how Aron would top it...but he did! Not to spoil anything to the uninitiated, but apart from warning others to look online for trigger warnings, because to do so here would spoil the book, but let's say that the bleak ending for "Son of the Slob," "Homewreckers" sure gives it a run for its money.

This book's strength, along with Aron's other works, comes from its ability to string the reader along, eager to know what happens in the next chapter and wondering how worse it can get! The whole supernatural angle took me by surprise in the best way possible!
A nitpick, but Liv's side story about a certain someone from work could have been expanded, but that is more on me than the book itself.

aron beauregard’s books are usually a hit or miss for me- i either really enjoy it, or i really don’t like it. this is a hit. i was curious at first to see where the ‘troubled child trope’ would go… and was a little concerned, since there have been many books and movies with similar themes. i thought it would be more of the same thing, just with splatterpunk elements. he did something unique, and it kept me entertained. this is a good one.

This is hands down Aron’s best work. It was creepy, it was disgusting, it even made me tear up. I have read a lot of books, and this one might be my favorite. I was so excited that I was able to snag a copy of the multimedia hardcover. The multimedia aspect is incredibly fun. Absolutely brilliant work.
