Venomous Deceit

I was supposed to expose him.
Soren Nixon, the untouchable media mogul, the one who hides behind locked doors and whispered oaths.
My job was simple.
Uncover the truth behind The Forsaken Society.
But nothing about him is simple.
I found a man who is carved from control and sin, who spends his free time fighting in underground rings to feel something real.
He’s dangerous in ways I can’t write about, intoxicating in ways I can’t resist.
Every secret pulls me deeper into his world.
Every touch makes me forget my purpose.
He’s everything I should fear.
But when he looks at me as if I am already his, I start to wonder. Maybe the story I have been chasing is the one that will destroy me.

Venomous Deceit is an enemies-to-lovers story where the lead characters, Cressida and Soren, are often at loggerheads—I loved it.

Soren is an alpha male who always gets what he wants, so he is a mite surprised when Cressida doesn’t always do everything when he snaps his fingers. Likewise, Cressida is an independent woman who can think for herself and tells Soren so in many different ways.
For example, when he enters her house late at night.
‘… I grab a fork from the counter. He eyes it for a moment, then his gaze meets mine. “Do you plan to stab me with that?” “Yes, I do. If you don’t leave.”’ I hit him with a bright smile.
She is a powerful character and just what Soren needed. I can’t say her challenging him was necessarily something he enjoyed; however, it did intrigue him, as no other woman had been so bold, and I enjoyed it immensely 🤣.

I am so pleased to see Soren do something with Maya, his sister; my lips are sealed, but it pleased me to no end. Actually, having other characters from previous books naturally placed in this story is great because it allows readers to see how they are doing and their relationships, too. It also gives us insight into how far Soren has grown by his acceptance of their choice of wives, especially Reon. In fact, Soren undergoes another change in this book, and, without giving anything away, it shows him in a completely different light—one where I like him much better. Don’t panic; he is still the domineering man he always has been. He definitely is a complex character.

While this story has darker elements, it also features terrific lighter moments with great humour. The fun banter between the lead characters, in particular, makes for a few giggles—many are sarcastic, led by Cressida. I can honestly say, you are going to love it!

Since meeting Soren in the first book I hoped that he would get his story and now well I devoured this book within the space of 24 hours.

Soren is the Lord of the Forsaken Society, our initial meeting of him he came across as ruthless and calculating - so it would have to be a special woman who would turn his world upside down and that would be Cressida.

Now she is a journalist and how she became entangled in Soren’s world is she is writing a story on him. Cressida is a feisty and fierce woman and not only that she goes above and beyond for her son. She is certainly not afraid to challenge Soren unlike many of those he would face on a daily basis, and this definitely piques his interest. But before he pursues this he gets Cressida to drop the story she is writing on him and he has a clever way of not only doing this but he ensures she is within his proximity for the foreseeable

I had a feeling that when Soren would fall for someone it would be intense and possessive and this is exactly what we get. I mean Soren was ever only concerned about was the Society and his sister and while he witnessed Reon and Arlo falling hard he couldn’t quite understand it, until Cressida - and this is why I loved seeing this man who firmly believed that he wouldn’t be tied down become so obsessed.

Yes this couple had chemistry it was clearly evident but you know what I enjoyed the most about these two? They would challenge on another on the daily, those head to head battles in which neither would back down.

Overall I absolutely loved this book. Thank you so much to the author who provided the e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭

Wow, Soren and Cressida’s book is so well written! It has single mom, billionaire MMC, workplace romance, secret society, and so much more.

I really enjoyed reading Soren’s book, especially after disliking him in the first one. His story gave me a deeper understanding of his relationship with his sister, Maya, and why he did everything for her.

I loved how he pursued Cressida and how he accepted her son, even though he had sworn off children. His character growth was so beautiful to read.

This is a 4.5-star read, and I highly recommend it!

I love how crazy fierce and strong Cressida is as a single mum. how she will always put him first (along with living her life and making bank). I love how he thinks she won't get under his skin and love isn't something for him.. until it is and he is in denial. I love that he showed her he can put her and Oliver first before Maya when she is the only family he has.

Venomous Deceit, the third and final book in this interconnected series was the best of the three.

Soren Nixon, what a surprise he was. When he finally takes off his mask, we get to see who he truly is underneath.

Cressida Knight, a journalist who wants the story and secrets of the man no one else dares to get close enough to to get.

I'll admit I wasn't sure about Soren from the previous books but I was completely surprised by his character. He is devoted to his job, the society and his sister. He has a softer side that Cressida manages to get to, with the help of Oliver.
Cressida is pure strength. When she wants something, nothing would stop her. Fiercely protective of her son amd isnt scared to stand up for herself.

I loved both of these characters. Their banter was great, the push pull and the spice....whew!

Highly recommend Venomous Deceit and the other two vooks in this Secret Society series.

Soren’s story is told in Venomous Deceit.
Media mogul and Lord of The Forsaken Society.
Soren is pure alpha male, mysterious and intriguing.
Cressida a single mom and a determined journalist.
She is after Soren and his secret society.
I really liked Cressida’s devotion to her son. He always came first.
And her determination and dedication to do her job showcased her inner strength.
With Soren and his dominant nature she never backed away.
Look out Soren you may have met your match!
Their banter and back and forth is filled with sarcasm and snark.
And the chemistry and energy between them was electrify.
I loved seeing their interactions, loved seeing their connection build and grow.
Once I started their story I couldn’t put it down!
4.5 stars for these two dynamic characters and their journey

My new favourite couple of the series!!!

We hear of Soren in the previous books and know him to be a man you do not cross - ever! His only family is his sister who quite frankly, isn't right in the head and he now has a journalism trying to reveal his secrets - which isn't a safe thing to try and do!!

Cressida is a badass - in the best possible way! The most important person in her life is her son who she shares custody with with her ex-husband and she is determined to tell Sorens story!

They may start as enemies - kinda - but the heat sizzles between them and I really enjoyed their chemistry and their banter, they made me smile and I could easily read more of them!!

The Forsaken Society was untouchable. Generations of secrets and wealth, who came together to rid the world of evil that no one else would. Soren was a media mogul and Cressida was a determined journalist, set to uncover the secrets and story of Soren Nixon.

However the hurricane known as Cressida came in like a force to show the anti-relationship, anti-love, anti-kid man, that anything is possible. And this strong lord would bow down to his lady and let her into his life and heart and fight to keep her and her son safe from his sister whom he enabled for far too long.

Props to the single moms who fight every single day. Plus the fork scene was priceless.

This entire series is absolutely amazing. Soren has always kind of been this big baddie in the background. When you read this book, though he is the biggest softy especially when it comes to Cressida. Cressida is my kind of girl. She has a take no prisoners, go toe to toe with the guy in front of you kind of person and I love her. I absolutely love when the MMC who is totally against love gets hit upside the head with

great series

This was a great read. Soren as the last of the forsaken to find their forever. Not as dangerous or mysterious as the previous books. Cressida was one bad ass woman. Perfect for him.

This is the best book of the series! Cressida is a spitfire and I loved her fight! I wasn’t sure if anyone could catch the eye of Soren and no one but this black cat could!

Cressida has an adorable son and a fight in her that is unrivaled. She wants the inside scoop into the darkness that Soren hides and will stop at nothing! Each heated moment between Soren and Cressida brings them closer together and my goodness my goodness when they came together is was everything!!!

Absolutely loved this book. We finally meet the Lord. Can a feisty journalist get the scope on him. All bets are off with these two.

I’m sad the Forsaken Society is over. Through these three books we meet three powerful men. Each set in their own ways. That is until three beautiful ladies captured their hearts.

Holy crap!

I didn’t know how I would feel about Soren just based on our interaction with him in the other books. But boy was I pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up loving him.

Did he need a strong FMC? Yes he did. Did Cressida come in with both hands swinging? Yes she did!!

I loved how strong and determined Cressida is. As a divorced mom who was trying to balance her life as well as getting along with her ex for the sake of her son she was rocking it!

I loved everything about this book!!

This book took me by surprise and I have to admit I was not looking forward to Soren’s book as he’s a bit of an ahole. But from start to finish I was captivated and Cressaida is the perfect woman for Soren. This couple are probably my favourite in the series so far.

Oh, oh, Soren, the man you are. God, this was such an unexpected surprise. I know I waited like crazy for his book and I was nooot disappointed. It was such an emotional roller coaster.
I loved Cressida for her stubbornness, loyalty, patience and inteligence and I loved Soren for trying to be better, for her and for them. I mean, who wasn't entranced with him in the first book?

Soren, oh Soren! I did not expect to fall in love with this book and the fierceness that is Cressida was unmatched. I loved this book and devoured it in a day simply because I just needed to know what happened. I kept on wishing for more story to unfold but it was still perfect. And seeing Reon and Lilith as well as Arlo and Cora was fun.

ARC REVIEW

"Venomous Deceit"
(The Venomous Series 3)

by T.L. Smith

The final book of the trilogy, after Venomous Kiss and Venomous Attraction, follows Soren and Cressida (aka Hurricane).

I knew, since the first time I read something about Soren, that he would be a major MMC if TL decided to write about him.
What I wouldn't have guessed was that, for me, he would be a rival in my heart with Reon (Venomous Kiss MMC).
And Cressida is just a major badass FMC; a strong, independent, fierce, divorced mother.
Together? They are pure fire, hot desire, transcendent psychological and physical chemistry.

I adored many things: how Cressida is unhinged (there's a fork stabbing scene that should win a prize), how Soren is unrelenting dark at first and he changes so much towards light. And the love, oh the love.

And what I really adored about this book, and to be real about the three Venomous books, is how TL writes these men to fall irredeemable in love with their women. How they idolize them. How they embrace their feelings without giving up their darkness. How they crave their HEA they never knew about.

The happiest of release days, T.

Thank you to the author and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for this incredible ARC.

-----

some of my favorite quotes:

Then he strides straight through the crowd, carrying me like I'm his to take, like possession is the language he speaks fluently, and I'm struggling to translate it.

He's a walking embodiment of danger wrapped in temptation with a pretty little bow on top.

I've seen too many people do stupid things because they've fallen in love. It's ridiculous. It's like they lose half their fucking brain.

I need to stay away from that man.
He's nothing but bad news.

A fight in the ring. The sharp edge of a knife. The spill of blood. The only things that ever clear my head.

And something in Soren's hidden shadows calls to me.

How dare he, just another egotistical male with more money than sense, trying to silence a woman.
He needs control in every aspect of his life, except the one thing he can't control, but he's trying to: me.

He tastes like so many possibilities and all the wrong things all at once.

It's not just lust of a passing convenience. It's quieter, deeper, something I'm not used to, something I don't know I can handle.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Soren and Cressida. She is a journalist and really good at what she does. She also exposes a lot of people from her investigations and articles. Now she has been tasked with exposing the life of Soren and the secret society of which he is the Lord. She also knows there is a hunt, but not what it is. Soren knows exactly who Cressida is. She keeps showing up at places and events she is not invited to. He can't have that. I hope you have been reading the previous books in this series because you will have been waiting for Soren's story just like I have. You get to see the characters from previous books too. I always love that. I have to say that Soren surprised me. We got glimpses of this cold uncaring man, and he is not all of that. I think that's mainly an image he wanted people to see. With Cressida he is annoyed that someone is investigating him. Of course, the man is not going to let someone find out about him and flip it to where he wants the situation. Cressida is prefect for him because she gives it right back to him. She is not afraid to stand up to him at all. She is however, a divorced mom that is never willing to do anything that isn't protecting her son. And can I just say the moments we go get of Noah and Soren are just heart melting. Not at all what you would expect from him. I loved these two individually and together. Now I could not always say that about Soren but he surprised me in this book and I was loving every second of that. We also get to see him deal with Maya, his sister. If you have been like me and she annoyed the fire out of you and you wanted the man to stand up to her. This is your moment. Now I am thinking that I would love to read a book where someone can put up with her spoiled ways and put her in her place. This was a great book, and you do not want to miss it. If you have not started this series, then you are missing some really great books. I do however suggest that you start and read them in order because elements of the story continue in each book.

Kindle Unlimited: Yes
Stand-alone: Yes***
Author: T.L. Smith
Rating: 5/5 ⭐️
Spiciness Rating: 3/5 🌶
POV: First Person Dual Perspective
Main Couple: Soren and Cressida
Trope(s): Secret Society, Underground Fighter, Forced Proximity, Blackmail, Single Parent, Unhinged MMC, Black Cat FMC

Since beginning the Secret Society interconnected standalone series by T.L. I have been wanting and waiting for Soren’s story. I would recommend reading the books in order to fully get all the information. If you read Venomous Attraction, we did meet Cressida. She came off unhinged which should have been my first indication she was going to be Soren’s FMC. What I have so enjoyed about this series is just how hard and fast these anti-hero’s fall. The chase has been so sweet.

Soren Nixon has secrets and Cressida Knight wants nothing more than to uncover every last one.

Cressida is a single mom, co-parenting amicably with her ex, and working for a big media corporation doing what she loves.

She can sense the story behind Soren and makes no bones about it.

Soren owns and operates a large media corporation of his own by day. He has been involved in the underground fighting scene for years, by night, keeping his demons in check. He is also the Lord of the Forsaken Society. Members come from various backgrounds, but what they have in common is their dark tendencies.

After many, many times of saying “No comment” he relents and offers to grant her an interview. On his terms of course. Hoping he can just put her off about it.

The more he pushes the more she pushes back.

Then he changes tactics. Buys the company she works for, fires her from her position, and offers her an even better one.

She just has to drop her pursuit of the story.

Cressida has gotten under his skin. But, she has also attracted the attention of Soren’s sister Maya.

Desperate people will do just about anything for attention. And, Maya is hella desperate.

Umm… Best first chapter EVER!

I love TL Smith’s books—she just knows exactly what to write.

Soren’s obsession with holding Cressida’s hand ughhh he’s so perfect.
His nonchalant attitude or rather serious demeanor even when he said funny things at times detached from the humorous side of it bc he’s so stony was really cute. His loyalty and separation from Maya were pretty wholesome, even if he had to sever ties to an extent with her.

✨”I may indeed have a type. But a beautiful woman easily sways a man, and there is no denying that Little Miss Hurricane is a stunning woman, with an amazing ass.”✨

I loved Cressida’s unapologetic attitude although at times the smirks and smiles when arguing or bantering with Soren felt a little too much—unnecessary, she’s in her 30s, it gave childish vibes. And her intolerance for Maya was stretched too immaturely.

Chapter 29: Soren is so needy and vulnerable and adorable.

Things Soren did that consumed me:
💧Always grabbing her hand to maintain physical contact
🪞Wanting to hold her in bed after having k!lled someone
💧Asking for a goodnight kiss
🪞Interrupting her vibrator time
💧Being gentle even after their first time bc he’s so big (and neither were virgins)
🪞Willingly getting under the bed and getting his tip chafed by the mattress bc her son jumped on the bed (hilarious)
💧Being thirsty AND THE WATER BOTTLE
🪞Early on he was so vulgar when speaking to her!!

If I could use an emoji that represented Cressida for not just one, but two scenes, it’d be this one:🍴 but also on the side: 👠. HA!

Having read the two previous books in this series I've been looking forward to more! I got right back into the Venomous world. I so enjoyed this story!

Cressida and Soren's journey captured my attention right away! Soren is the Lord of The Forsaken Society and an underground fighter. Cressida is a single mom and journalist. Cressida is digging into The Forsaken Society which leads her to following Soren. As their worlds collide, could Soren and Cressida have something together?

Soren and Cressida got me so into their story! I so enjoyed getting dig more into the The Forsaken Society with these two. It was great to see Cressida and Soren take on secrets, personal stuff, and all that was between them.

Soren and Cressida were definitely all about each other. Their banter was so good! I loved how determined Cressida was when it came to Soren and how Cressida got to Soren. They had me feeling many things with them all throughout!

I enjoyed getting back into this world!

With Venemous Deceit, Ms.Smith an awesome dark romance that brought journalist x underground fighter, secret society, single parent, banter, and steam!

Check out the author's note about the triggers.

“She is not my escape, but she is my calm.”

Venomous Deceit finally gives us Soren’s story—the elusive Lord of the Secret Society—and I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about him going in. He’s cold, detached, and devoted only to his sister. But he turned out to be so much more than I expected. There’s something about Cressida, the relentless journalist determined to expose him and his secret society, that stirs something deep within him. She softens his edges and forces him to feel.

Cressida was an absolute force. A devoted mother with an iron-clad strength, she would stop at nothing to chase the story she wanted. She never hesitated to stand up to Soren, and I loved that she refused to let him control the narrative. Her strength, resilience, and fire made her the perfect match for him.

The snarky banter between them crackled with energy, and their chemistry was off the charts. But what truly hooked me was watching their walls slowly crumble as they let themselves be vulnerable with each other. Their real emotions—raw, messy, and unexpected—made their connection irresistible.

Venomous Deceit is another whirlwind of emotion in this dark, twisted world. It’s gripping, addictive, and impossible to put down once you start.

I've loved each and every book so far from this series....even though they can be read as standalones I think you'll definitely benefit from reading all of them.

Venomous Deceit is a dark romance that sinks its claws in from the very first line and refuses to let go.

Soren Nixon is everything a FMC should run from—powerful, secretive, dangerous—and yet he’s impossible to resist. What begins as an investigation into a shadowy society for our FMC Cressida quickly becomes a descent into obsession, control, and forbidden desire. Every secret uncovered tightens the grip of his world, and every stolen touch blurs the line between duty and destruction. I loved Soren ever since book one and was hoping and praying we'd get his book!!!

The chemistry is intense, addictive, and layered with tension that crackles on every page. I loved the contrast between Soren’s public perfection and his brutal, underground reality—it made him a fascinating, morally grey antihero you can’t stop thinking about. This story delivers dark intrigue, possessive romance, and emotional depth in equal measure. If you love standalone dark romances with dangerous men, secret societies, and a heroine caught between truth and temptation, Venomous Deceit will absolutely consume you. 🔥🖤

I was so excited when TL announced that Soren was getting his own book. He’d had my attention ever since Venomous Kiss.

Did we ever think the Lord of The Forsaken Society would fall? Absolutely not—but he finally met his match.

Soren, media mogul and Lord of the Forsaken Society, is an eligible bachelor who hasn’t entertained a relationship - mostly because his life is already complicated enough dealing with his sister, Maya.

Cressida is a single mother and investigative reporter who won’t stop digging until she gets her story. All she wants is to expose The Forsaken… but she can never quite get the information she needs.

So what does Soren do? He buys her place of employment and offers her a different position in exchange for her silence 😜

Their chemistry is off the charts, and I absolutely loved their story. I love how the men in this series all find their HEA—and how perfectly matched their leading ladies are.

The fork 🫣 Did I expect Cressida to do that? NOOOOO.

This is also the final book of the series... to catch up Venomous Kiss, Venomous Attraction and then is hottie...

Thank you TL Smith for the advance copy of this book...

Loving this series so far, and this is the installment I was waiting for since book 1. Soren is the enigmatic leader of the Secret Order, who we first met in book 1 when he is trying to marry his sister to another member unsuccessfully. Cressida, whom we meet briefly in book 2, is a reporter who is determined to uncover the truth behind Soren and the secret society he runs.

This book starts with a typical conflict of a dogged reporter trying to get a story but quickly becomes so much more when Soren is drawn to Cressida in a way he wasn’t expecting and doesn’t understand. Throwing a wrench in their twisted romantic push and pull is Soren’s entitled sister, who doesn’t like that her brother is finally saying no to her over the two desires.

I haven’t enjoyed reading two people at cross purposes banter and push each other’s buttons like this in a little while. This book has all the things that are great about this series: the alpha male, the obstinate and fierce female lead, and just the right amount of spice mixed with darkness that make Soren great book boyfriend material. Great read!

Book 3 in the Forsaken… and the one I have been waiting on!!
I did not want to like Soren.. .he is not a likeable guy in the other books.
Stubborn, manipulating his friends, going as far as trying to force his friend to marry his retched sister.. Hunting and tricking.. He is Lord of the Forsaken.

“ He's basically sin, wrapped in danger, cloaked in enigma, and nothing fascinates me more than uncovering people’s secrets, and his I’m very interested in. “

Cressida is going to lay it all open. She is a deep dive investigative reporter.
The best in what she does really.
She is going after Soren.
She is also a devoted mother and co-parent of her little one with her ex.

So One bad-ass mother focusses all her journalistic stalker tendencies on the LORD of the Forsaken but she did not facture in his “hidden” charm, dangerous chemistry, darkness that will call to her and …. well the man does underground fighting with a body to give him all the wins and her all the f eels.

Venomous Deceit will keep you nailed to the pages.

Hurricane meets h er match.

Unfortunately not as unhinged as the other ones, from story to story everything gets vanilla

Did I like this book? Yes. Did I like the characters? Yes. Did I feel like it was too easy and missing something? Also yes.

Soren: I have to admit that I was somewhat dissatisfied by his persona in this book, and that only because he wasn’t unhinged like in the other books. I expect a bat shit crazy H doing lots of inexplicable crazy stuff but he really didn’t. I mean the guy had 0 moral compass in the other books so I was hoping he will meet his match while showing this side of him, which somehow was non existent in this book.

Cressida: her I really liked. Gurl took no prisoners and was really open and transparent regarding whatever. She was really cool and unexpectedly unhinged sometimes so big big like. As funny as it sounds, Soren was kinda boring and vanilla compared to her.

Maya: omg I was soooo glad she finally got what she deserved. The woman has serious issues and should really be locked up.

All in all this book was more about family drama than the society and somehow from book 1 to book 3 the stories get more and more vanilla.

Delicious deceit

I absolutely loved this series by T.L. Smith, and I was honestly anxious about finally meeting Soren — the Lord himself. But this book exceeded my expectations.
Soren, the Lord of the Forsaken, is a man who keeps his own desires tightly leashed in order to protect those around him — especially his sister. That level of control, responsibility, and sacrifice made him far more compelling than I expected.
Enter Cressida — a journalist hell-bent on uncovering the truth about the Forsaken and everything there is to know about Soren. Between her essentially stalking him and his undeniable pull toward her, this venomous deceit was delicious poison.
The intimacy, the connection, the push and pull — it was all there. What I loved most was how they challenged each other. Even when one was ready to give up, the other refused to let go. Watching Soren move from denial to the realization of his feelings was beautiful — that moment when love finally hits and everything shifts felt raw and earned.
And yes… Arlo is still my top MMC. Sorry not sorry.
