Wow. I did not expect to run into Brooklyn Kings retired football star Harte McKinney in my hometown of Appleton Falls. It takes me back to my college days when I crushed on him in silence. All these years later, nothing’s changed. Even better, something in his eyes has me thinking he’s not as straight as I’d always believed.
When I find him hurt in a car crash in the snow, it’s my duty as a deputy sheriff to follow him to the hospital and make sure he’s going to be okay. Then we share an unexpected kiss, and I make him a come home with me to recuperate so we can explore these feelings behind closed doors.
Each day we spend together brings us closer, and we know we want to be together. But small towns have big eyes—we might not be able to keep what we have to ourselves much longer. My partner already suspects Harte and I are more than “just friends.” And when my mom gets an eyeful of Harte in his birthday suit…it’s time.
Let the snow fall where it may—we’re ready to come out.
There’s a fire crackling in the grate, the tree is decorated, and presents are wrapped. We’re all set to huddle together for the holidays and hope that love and magic of Christmas conquers all.

Holiday Huddle by Felice Stevens is a sweet, steamy, small town holiday romance that is the first in what will be a brand new series, Appleton Falls. This is filled with all the Christmas goodness you could ask for.
Harte McKinney is forty years old, divorced and is a retired NFL player, retired from the Brooklyn Kings. He’s a bit lost, not knowing what to do with his life and decides to buy a home in Appleton Falls where his good friends, Brody and Dev are now living. But his very first day in his new home doesn’t go exactly as planned when he gets into a car accident.
Jethro “Jet” Saunders is thirty six years old and is a deputy sheriff in Appleton Falls. Jet was a freshman in college on the football team when Harte was a senior. Jet is bi but has kept it a secret, first because of the football team, and then because he was worried how his coworkers on the force would take the news. Back in college, Jet had the biggest secret crush on Harte but Harte had a girlfriend at the time who became his wife after college. He can’t believe his eyes when he sees his old crush crashed alongside the road. So he does what any good deputy would do and goes with him to the hospital and stays with him.
Harte has a secret too, one he has always ignored, never acted on, he is as attracted to men as he is women. And after what happened with his now ex-wife, he’s more interested in men than he is women. When the gorgeous deputy stays with him at the hospital, all it takes is one innocent kiss and he’s lost. When Jet offers to take Harte home with him to care for him while he is recuperating from his injuries, and maybe to explore the crazy attraction between them, he’s all in.
Neither of these two are out but behind closed doors, the chemistry is crazy! They spend their time getting to know each other and feelings grow fast. But, with Harte’s lack of a plan for his future, and with everything between them a secret, is there hope for them?
This really was so sweet. I loved the connection between these two. There was no angst at all, just mature men getting a chance at a love neither of them knew was possible. And a wonderful Christmas filled with love, laughter, friends and family.
That was just the festive romance I was hoping for!
This one acts as a link between Felice's Brooklyn Kings and her upcoming new series set in the small town of Appleton Falls and it's swoony in all the right places.
It starts off with a literal bang as Harte, retired former backup quarterback for the Kings, crashes while on the way to his new home and ends up in hospital.
One of the deputy sheriffs who helped rescue Harte used to be at college with him, although a few years younger, and he visits to reintroduce himself.
There's instant sparks that results in an offer to recuperate with Jet and this leads into an admittance of attraction and both men revealing they're bisexual.
One of the things I liked best about this romance is that while the short timescale makes you think things are happening too quickly, the actual narrative does all the work to establish the easy way they slot seamlessly into each other's lives.
Their friendship and romance just makes sense, and while the physical side of things goes fairly slowly, the feelings are all tangled up from the off.
With a couple of secondary plots involving Jet coming out and the previous history that's clearly there between two of his fellow deputies, who are the subject of the next book, the pacing moves nicely throughout all the stumbling blocks towards the inevitable happy ending.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in this setting.
#ARC kindly received from the author, I am voluntarily leaving a review.
the interaction between mcs is ridiculous and i don't like the direction the plot is taking, i tried but i couldn't read any further. sometimes i ask myself why i still bothering with this author... and that's because some of her books, cheesiness apart, are still a good read for me, others like this one a big, fat miss.
A fun and cozy second chance Christmas read. Harte has retired from the Brooklyn Kings and moved to Appleton Falls where former teammates live. He's unsure of what to do now that he's divorced and no longer playing football. While driving home, his car slips on ice and he hits a fence. The sheriff deputy, Jet, stays at the hospital with him. Turns out they played volleyball together. Both are in the closet about being bisexual but their chemistry is electric. Hey offers to have Harte stay with him while he heals. Their relationship moves fast and they get the courage to be themselves fully and openly.
This was such a sweet & spicy quick holiday read! I enjoyed Harte and Jet and their instant connection. There was definitely insta love happening but in this setting, it seemed fitting and almost magical. While it is a very light and low angst read, there was still some emotional and meaningful moments, especially in regard to their coming out journeys. Really enjoyed seeing all of the Brooklyn Kings players and team members again and what they have been up to since their stories ended. And I cannot wait to go back to Appleton Falls for Em & Starr’s story!!!
Harte McKinney is adrift after the end of his football career and a painful divorce, so he starts over in Appleton Falls. When a snowstorm accident brings him into the care of Deputy Jethro “Jet” Saunders — a longtime admirer and former sports hero fan — comfort quickly turns into something deeper. Their slow-burn journey is tender, emotional, and beautifully written.
I absolutely loved everything about this book. Small town stories always have a place in my heart, and I love the crossover with the Brooklyn Kings. I wish the book was longer, since I couldn't get enough of Harte and Jet. I'm excited for Emerson's story next.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.
Holiday Huddles by Felice Stevens is the first book in her Appleton Falls series. It is the story of a newly retired NFL player who doesn’t know what to do with himself and the small-town sheriff that shows him life still has a lot to offer, including love. Harte McKinney, newly retired quarterback from the Brooklyn Kings, is down on life because at 40, no other team wanted to make a contract with him, his wife left him for another football player when his star status started to fade, and he didn’t know what to do with the rest of his life. He didn’t have any family to fall back on but his friends Dev and Brody suggested he check out places he might want to start a new life in and he fell in love with Appleton Falls in the Adirondacks of New York, where they also had a cabin. When he moved in his new house, he discovered he didn’t have some food that he needed to he struck out to the general store during a snowstorm. On the way back he crashed into a fence and was hurt. Sheriff Jet Saunders found him and followed him to the hospital. Both men had an instant attraction to each other but neither man was out as being bi. They both knew at a young age that they liked men but Harte never thought he could act on it because of how it could hurt his career and Jet had never told anyone and sought hookups away from town when he needed them. When it came time for Harte to return home the doctors said he shouldn’t be alone and Jet offered to take care of him at his house since his tour for the police force was going to be at nights. They also had something else in common in that they had both played football at the same college but it was when Harte was a senior and Jet a freshman and while Harte’s career took off after he graduated, Jet didn’t have the star power and returned home to help his family after his father died and became a sheriff, a job he loved. The attraction is strong between the two of them and they share a kiss, Harte’s first from a man, before they go to Jet’s house. They settle into a routine, learn about each other, and discover that they have a lot in common and Harte tells him he’d like to have more. Then something happens while Jet is on patrol and his partner, Emerson, saves him from a catastrophe that leaves them both shaken. When he gets home, he tells Harte what happened and that leads to some hot love scenes and deciding they are not going to see anyone else and they are not leaving because they make each other feel alive, something neither had when they were with the women they dated. Meanwhile Harte needs to figure out what he is going to do with his life and after talking to Dev and Brody has an idea that interests him so he acts on it. Both men are tired of hiding their relationship and Jet slowly comes out to Emerson and then after some bullying by a biker gang at a bar, to the men on his team and his boss. He also tells his family and while his sister has a good reaction, his mother doesn’t. Harte also comes out to his old coach and the owner of the Kins when he goes to talk to them about a job in their organization. They also smooth things over with Jet’s mother as they say they are in love with each other and want to be together. I really enjoyed this book. Harte and Jet were attracted to each other from the start and it didn’t take long for them to act on it. It was Harte’s first time with a man and Jet was caring and gentle, especially during their love scenes, and they wanted an exclusive relationship almost right away. Their feelings only grew but they had to come out to friends and the people they worked with in order to be together in public and even though it took a while they were very happy with the results and that they could show their affection anywhere. Football was in the background of the story and their friends and family played an important part in it. There were several scenes that had you on the edge of your seat but they ended well for both of them. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about a retired sports star who is trying to figure out what to do with his life, a sheriff who is hiding a part of himself, the interesting way they meet each other, and how it all leads to them falling in love and having the lives they always wanted.
In my first book from this author I can say I have a backlog of books I need to go and read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While sure it was fast but also felt real. I’d definitely recommend this book. However while absolutely not needed I think this book could have been enhanced by reading book from prior love stories to this one. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know you’re 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
New Review! Holiday Huddle (A Brooklyn Kings to Appleton Falls Crossover) by @felicestevens
Now I drink Felice’s kool’aid so hard, like full card carrying cült member here… BUT LIKE WHEN I TELL YOU EVEN I WAS IMPRESSED BY THE TROPES, THE CAMEOS, THE CROSSOVER AND THE AMOUNT OF 🌽
Y’all going to put me on a ventilator over here.
*slaps top of Holiday Huddle* You can fit SO MUCH SMÜT in this this baby!
And the R1MMING … I am ALWAYS begging for more r1mming scenes… ALWAYS and it has not fallen on deaf ears!!!! FELICE HAS BLESSED US WITH SO MUCH CAKE EATING THAT IT FEELS ILLEGAL! 😭😍
Who is hotter you ask? Is it Harte the retired former Brooklyn QB or Jet the squishy at heart beefy in flesh sheriff of Appleton Falls who used to go to university with Harte when he was a freshman and had a crush on him?
IMPOSSIBLE to answer. They’re both 🔥 hot.
The set up is delicious.
Harte is freshly retired and decides to settle in Appleton Falls nearby to where his former teammates Dev and Brody have a cottage. He’s only just getting to know the townspeople, including the hot sheriff that he runs into at the grocery store, when he crashes his car in the snow.
Hot sheriff finds him at the scene and follows him to the hospital, unable to leave him alone considering they used to know each other (and he used to have a crush on Harte!) with a leap of faith that he blames on the holidays, Jet offers to take in the QB at his home, willing to nurse him back to health after his accident.
Harte is in shock, but the sheriff is pretty hot… and he was considering asking him out even though he’s never been with a guy before, but what is retirement for if not exploring his full identity… and he’s fully divorced and alone and no one wants to be alone for the holidays.
*cue Santa baby* cause that house gets rockin pretty darn quick. The chemistry is hot and fierce as these two seggsy bi boys pull no punches on figuring out exactly what they want. Loads of communication and exploration and ADORATION as they pläy house while their hearts burn fiery and fast for one another.
It’s inclusive, there’s found family and personal growth.
This Captivating, Heart-Melting Christmas Romance Holiday Huddle is the kind of story that wraps itself around you like a favorite winter blanket and refuses to let go. I was smitten from the moment Harte McKinney the legendary retired football star and long-time secret crush stumbles back into Appleton Falls. What begins as a shock reunion quickly transforms into a tender slow burn full of longing, warmth, and irresistible holiday magic. The chemistry between Harte and the stunning deputy sheriff is impossible to ignore. Their history is simmering beneath the surface and the moment they share that unexpected kiss, the entire story glows brighter than Christmas lights on fresh snow. Bringing Harte home to recover turns into beautiful moments where the walls drop and their truths unfurl and these two men finally allow themselves to feel what they’ve both been carrying for years. Every day they spend together deepens the connection until it’s no longer something that can be hidden not from the town, not from family, not from themselves. The small-town gossip, the partner’s suspicions, the hilariously mortifying “mom walks in at the worst possible time” moment… every beat rings with authenticity, tenderness, and joy. By the time they choose to step into the light together, I was cheering for them like they were the only two people in the world who mattered. The cozy setting, the snowy nights, the crackling fireplace, the decorated tree it all creates a romance that feels both intimate and epic. This book is everything I want in a holiday love story: heartfelt, healing, passionate, and overflowing with charm. A stunning, emotional, completely amazing Christmas romance. I loved every page. 🎄🔥💙
HOLIDAY HUDDLE is a fast-paced novella that begins the Appleton Falls series, complete with crossover characters from the Brooklyn Kings series.
Harte is a forty-year-old quarterback who has just retired and doesn't know what to do with himself. Jet is a thirty-six-year-old deputy sheriff in Appleton Falls. These two did know each other, way back when, but reconnect when Harte moves to town. He doesn't get off to a great start, as he has an accident, and Jet is the one who stays with him. Both of them are bisexual and sort of behind closed doors.
These two may not be out-out, but trust me, when they stay in, the spice comes out! There is such a connection between them, and they are both just what the other needs. I loved reading the small signs of bravery from each of them as they came out in various situations or moved out of their comfort zones.
This is fast-paced, and I guess I wanted a little more depth, especially considering just how good these two are and the friends they have and make. This is the first book in the series, and I honestly can't wait to return. Definitely recommended by me.

I loved the Brooklyn Kings series and there are a few cameos here that made my day. You don't need to read that series to understand Holiday Huddle. This new series starts with a short holiday story. Harte McKinney has retired from the Brooklyn Kings and moved to Appleton Falls, only to skid off the road on his first day there and end up in hospital. Good thing a local deputy sheriff jumped in to save the day, taking Harte into his home to look after him. Jet and Harte have a connection from their college days so it does make sense. Well, that and the red hot attraction between them. This is almost love at first sight but as it's Christmas for us and them, I'm giving them a pass on how quickly their relationship developed. It didn't take long to get physical, and the love followed very quickly. I liked both men individually and as a couple, but really wanted a bit more of a slow build to see them fall in love, rather than just bedroom scenes and not much else. The scenes with Harte, Dev and Brody were some of my favourites, as were the scenes of Jet and his partner Emerson, who was a really sympathetic character. guessed where Felice was going with Em and she confirmed it at the back of the book, announcing he will be next. I can't wait to find out the history between him and his man. Another character, Theo, was briefly introduced and he definitely needs to get his own HEA.
This is a sweet and spicy love story that brings 40-year-old retired NFL star Harte McKinney and deputy sheriff Jethro 'Jet' Saunders back together after well over a decade apart. Unbeknownst to Harte, Jet had nurtured a secret crush from those college days that came to nothing when Harte was drafted. Unmoored after his exit from the game he loves, Harte must learn to live for himself and not for the team that has been his family for so long. The accident that lands him in Harte's home also brings him face to face with his desires and with the man who is more than willing to show him how it can be between them. Fear of coming out and concern for Jet's career, along with uncertainty about what to do now that he's not playing football, are challenges Harte must meet and surmount. But he has Jet's wholehearted support, and the attraction that---rather hastily---morphs from lust to more between them helps anchor him as he finds his footing.
I wanted to round this up to 4 stars, but I found the story was a little too fairytale-like in its solutions to big issues that these grown men face. For example, Pete, who sold Harte his car, gets help for his daughter's illness just in time when Harte discovers his problems. And the way Jet prevents the bikers from brawling in the bar, thereby killing two birds with one stone, is just too neat to feel real to me. Those difficult-for-most-people situations are just too tidily settled.
These two were so sweet together! I loved their instant connection and dynamic, especially once Harte remembered their college connection from their past, if brief. I always struggle with the stories where the MCs know their orientation and have for a significant amount of time, but haven't ever felt safe or comfortable coming fully out for themselves. I know that's a common and still prevalent issue in reality, but I really hurt for the MCs when I read those feelings and moments.
I loved Harte & Jet together, although I will say I didn't like the difficulty Jet's mom had with their situation, but I'm happy with how that came out in the end. The moments with Jet's partner and deputies were fun too. You never know what kind of small town vibe you'll get, even in fictional romance-driven stories.
Holiday Huddle was a great, somewhat shorter, holiday read and especially if you're already familiar with the characters from the Brooklyn Kings series, particularly Dev & Brody. It was great to see them pop in several times throughout the tale. Harte & Jet had perfect instant chemistry within their pseudo second chance. *Be sure to check content warnings before reading because a few particular moments could be triggering for some readers.
I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
This book was a good holiday story, and it can be read as a standalone. Harte had a few small mentions in the Brooklyn Kings series, but it's not necessary to read them. A few of the main characters from that series show up in this one and might make you curious enough to give that series a chance, though. If you have a sharp memory and regularly read the author's books, Jet briefly appeared in The Right One, but again not a needed read beforehand.
I felt for Harte. His career and marriage ended, and he felt lost. I was glad that he met and trusted Jet even in an unfortunate manner. Their attraction was instant for Harte, but a rekindling for Jet. Harte needing help for a while was a great way for them to get to know each other. It was wonderful seeing these two find common ground and find happiness together. I was glad that they had so much time to themselves before they needed to make some decisions about their relationship.
While not everything went smoothly, I was glad it all worked out in the end. Jet's mom was a sore spot for a bit, but thankfully, they worked it out. Jet's family was great, and I'm glad they liked Harte so much. I really liked Jet's friend and coworker, Emerson, and can't wait to read his story in the next Appleton Falls book.
*Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure. A review wasn't a requirement.*
I’m really hoping this book featuring Appleton Falls is only the beginning of a new series (‘Zon says it’s book 1 of 1). It’s incredibly sweet with tons of steam between Harte, a retired NFL pro quarterback and Jet, the small town deputy sheriff who had had a crush on Harte since they played college football together years before.
There was zero angst and hardly any drama at all—only sweetness and light—in this adorable Christmas story with two closeted former football players and I absolutely loved it! Neither MC was really the alpha, dominant type; I guess if I had to describe them, I’d have to say they were more like cinnamon roll MCs (and evidently that does it for me as well) with how tender they were to each other…definite relationship goals.
If you’re looking for a sweet, hot, uncomplicated, Christmas read—nothing heavy—just an amazing way to relax and let the stress of the holidays melt away, this may very well be the book you’re looking for. Personally, I loved it. 4.25 stars (This is really a 4.5 star read but without the ability to rate in fractions, it would have to be rounded up to 5 stars and it wasn’t QUITE there but it’s so worth reading.) I hope you’ll check it out, I think you might be happy you did.
I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.
Felice Stevens is an author whose work I have enjoyed in the past and I often find myself curious about their new releases. I will be honest and say that the last few Felice Stevens releases I have read have failed to grab me in the way their earlier work did. In fact, it has been to the point where I have not been picking up their books as often as I usually would. When I saw Holiday Huddle was the introduction to a new series, I decided I would give the author another go with my fingers crossed that I would be sucked in and ready for something new to love.
Unfortunately, I found myself struggling with Holiday Huddle from early in the book. I am not sure what it was with this story, but the writing did not work for me. Everything felt chunky, filled with telling instead of showing, with the interactions between the characters feeling forced. Usually, the author pulls me in with the sweet interactions, but I never felt anything for the characters in this – and I blame the writing. It simply did not work for me in the way it usually does.
At this point, I think it is safe to say my reading tastes have changed to the point where Felice Stevens no longer works for me. I am sure this will work for others, but I am accepting this as the epiphany I needed to finally let go.
Holiday Huddle is such a sweet and spicy novella. It was a perfect little treat by Felice Stevens that introduces a new series. It also brought back some favorites from the Brooklyn Kings series.
Holiday Huddle brings Harte who has recently retired from the Brooklyn Kings to Appleton Falls. He has just purchased a home and on his first night in town he gets into a car accident. The deputy sheriff, Jet, takes care of him.
Harte and Jet knew each other in passing while they both attended the same college. This time while Jet is taking care of Harte they reconnect. Harte is just acting on his bisexuality and Jet is the perfect partner for him.
There is a lot packed into this novella. Harte struggles with figuring out what his next step will be after playing football. It's through his friendship with some other Brooklyn Kings players he is able to sort through his thoughts and land in the best place for him.
Holiday Huddle is a short, sweet, spicy, and quick holiday novella that is just lovely. I am excited for this new series, Appleton Falls.
Spice: 4/5 Fun: 4/5 Overall: 4.5/5
Thanks to GRR for providing an eARC, this is my honest review.
We are back with some familiar faces from Felice's Brooklyn Kings novels whilst co-mingling with new faces in the town of Appleton Falls.
Harte McKinney, ex Brooklyn Kings player has just brought a house out in Appleton falls to get away from his past. His marriage breakdown and forced retirement has had his head all messed up and he needs to get away from the city to focus on the next stage of his life.
unfortunately his new life doesn't start that well as we start this book with an big hit....and by hit I mean a car accident involving Harte. There he is introduced to Jet, a deputy sheriff in the town, and also an old college football teammate. Jet came across the accident and feels obligated to see Harte get to hospital.
From the minute they meet there is a spark. Jet, who is bisexual, actually had a crush on him back in the day. After an unexpected kiss is shared the flame is lit and we begin to see them get closer, mainly due to the fact that Jet moves Harte into is house to help him recover.
Very quickly they grow very close and a relationship starts to develop. Is it too quick? Will it end in heart ache for the two of them? Is Harte ready to commit to a man and except that he too is bisexual?
The best part of this novel for me ARE the connections made between a lot of the characters.
* Harte feels he has no one now he's not a big shot football player. * Jet is not openly out to anyone, not his family or his partner at work
There are many other characters in this book who are struggling with something and to see them all inter connect with and to the 2 MMCs is heartwarming. We have a couple of situations in the book that makes us look at the characters and feel so proud of them. We also see an event that is the catalyst for a lot of heartfelt, important decisions made for many characters. We see a visit from Dev and Brody and also are introduced to Jets family.
By the end of the book there will be changes to the MMCs, their friends, and their lives will be determined by a series of events that cascade like a snowball. Your heart will be full and your faith in people restored.
Plus we get to celebrate Christmas! What more could be better?
Harte McKinney is retired from football and ready to settle down. His work with some friends led him to Appleton Falls. Unfortunately, he has an accident his first night there. Deputy Sheriff Jet Saunders is the first on the scene and, remembering Harte, he decides to stay on the scene and accompanies him to the hospital. Jet offers Harte a place to stay while he recuperates and needs assistance. The two find a connection and Jet thinks Harte may not be a straight as he thought. As they get closer and closer, both men figure it might be time to come out and share their happiness.
This was a true feel-good story perfect for Christmas. Hart always knew he was bisexual but had never explored both parts of the bi. Jet had no problem giving him some help. They were tender and loving with each other which led to some surprise, humorous reveals in front of others. The two are devoted making for a great story. This one is perfect if you are looking a fantastic romance combined with the magic of Christmas and a few incredible acts of kindness. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Harte was at loose ends after his football career came to an end and his wife left him and he needed a change. He decides to relocate close to some of his former teammates to a place in the northeast that was reminiscent of where he grew up. Meeting Jet, first in the grocery store where he goes for supplies on a cold and snowy winter's night and then after he has an accident on the road and has to be taken to the hospital, is the beginning of both men really coming into their true selves. Both are bisexual and neither has found anyone up until this point in time that they really vibe with of either gender. But they instantly connect and Jet taking Harte in while he recovers helps them quickly realize that they each have found their forever person. They work on their logistics along the way as neither is really out, but both realize that what they are building is worth each of them doing that at his own pace but forging forward so that they can build the life they both want with one another. These guys really fit and were both grateful for being together. This was sweet and a lovely holiday read. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It was just the perfect story to start my holiday season. I love it when a teen crush becomes reality.
Jet had a major crush on Harte when they were younger but never thought he would ever have a chance with him. After all, Harte was straight and had a girlfriend.
Little did he know that the universe would not only give him the opportunity to reconnect with Harte, but to actually become.
When Harte crashes due to bad weather, the first person that comes to his rescue is Jet. What seemed to be nothing but misfortune turned into the best thing that could have happened to them both.
The accident gave Harte and Jet the chance to get to know each other and for Harte to finally feel comfortable about his sexuality. They both had reservations regarding coming out for fear of losing those they loved, but eventually, their love for each other was stronger.
For the first time in Harte’s life, he was with someone that really saw him. Jet showed him what it was really like to be loved.
I loved reading about them. Now I need to read the other books where Jet first appeared 😁
This was a cute, feel-good, instalust romance. There's small-town charm (and some not charming aspects), a snowstorm, a car crash, a host of retired football players and police officers with a whole bunch of issues to work out.
For the most part, I enjoyed the dynamic between Harte and Jet, and I liked how Jet took such good care of Harte. Both of them being closeted definitely made things difficult to start, especially in a small town where residents notice everything. But the coming out arc was affirming and hopeful, and I'm hoping that the two side characters - Emerson and Dominic - get a chance to lean into that hope to figure out their animosity.
That said, the story felt a bit rushed. The emotional beats were all there, but I would have loved a little more depth and exploration of them. The romance felt like it could have used a little more developing, but it was still believable. Overall, it's a sweet read. I wouldn't characterize it as a holiday romance so much as a romance that happens at the holidays.
[I received an advanced copy of this book. All reviews and ratings are my own.]
This is a holiday, coming out, first times (for Harte) bisexual romance that’s the first in the Appleton Falls series. Jet isn’t actually out, even though he’s known he is bisexual his whole adult life. His intrusive mom keeps trying to set him up with women, and he’s been deflecting because he hasn’t really felt the pull. It’s his partner who notices how close Jet and Harte are becoming, who really picks up on the fact that Jet’s not straight. Harte has never come out either, but he has a cadre of compatriots who are out and proud, and who accept his announcement with positivity.
I know this is supposed to be a small-town romance, but I didn’t really get that vibe. That said, it’s a happy ending for Jet and Harte, and the book has a lot of callbacks to the Brooklyn Kings players that fans of the earlier series will likely appreciate. For those who haven’t read any of the connecting stories, this one’s fine to begin with.
Good, wintry pre-Christmas atmosphere in rural New York State where sports hero and law enforcement officer are brought together for some magical moments. Harte the retired NFLer careens off a slippery road and right into the orbit of regular working man Jet, the Appleton Falls deputy police officer who has had a secret thing for Harte since they played football in college. Harte feels the vibes for Jet as well and things get hot pretty quickly. Both have covered up their bisexuality and have to come to grips with the decision of when to come public with it.
I definitely liked that the majority of the secondary characters are super supportive, though one or two have to be won over. Both guys face danger, making for some exciting action adventure moments in an otherwise pretty cozy (though definitely steamy too) romance.
Looks like the start of another good series from Ms Stevens.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
This wonderful book had me in tears, and I mean good tears. I feel in love from page one with Jet and Harte. Jet is living is closeted quite life as a deputy sheriff in a small town; Harte, a retired football star, who is struggling as his career appears over and his wife has left him. So he decides new location, new life. He finds himself in the small town of Appleton Falls. Both men knew one another in college and both knew they liked me, but due to personal and professional reasons, both never shared it, In fact, Harte has never even acted on it. When Harte is hurt in an accident and found by Jet. To help him recover Jet invites him to his home. While there they have a kiss that changes everything, ie. Harte's first kiss, and suddenly these two are on the path toward love and relationship. Both slowly come out to others and find their HEA. A wonderfully written love story that will leave your heart full and make you believe that love wins.
Holiday Huddle by Felice Stevens is book 1 in the new Appleton Falls series. This one crossovers with the Brooklyn Kings series but I feel like it could’ve read as a standalone. There are quite a few characters from the Brooklyn Kings, but they are usually just brief side characters. I did really like Harte and Jet. The fact that they had actually played together in college was interesting and a good lead into why they fell so quickly. But honestly one of the things I usually enjoy about this author’s books is the time spent on the emotional connection and I just felt like this one was missing some of that. I’m looking forward to Emerson and Starr’s story. I’m also interested in the brief glance we got of Theo. I will be looking forward to the next book in this series.
Harte and Jet's story in Holiday Huddle is a sweet and sexy holiday read that will warm your heart. This is the perfect book to cuddle up with on a cold night in your reading nook, which is the best gift to yourself.
Harte is tired of how his life has turned out and decided to move to a small town on a friend's suggestion. Little did Harte know that the move would not only heal his dark mood but also wake a light within his soul. Jet remembered Harte as his high school crush, and it had stirred those old feelings he thought he would never feel again.
An accident has left Jet playing nurse to his heart's desire, and Harte is finally letting himself go for what he wanted but denied because of his football career. Left in their secret bubble, they both wanted to find out whether they were brave enough to let their hearts connect or would fear end their chance for a forever love.
