On the sun-washed streets of the Hamptons, one food blogger and her fake secretary tangle with the very real (and increasingly attractive) assistant standing between her and her dream gig. The Barefoot Contessa meets You've Got Mail in this sparkling romance debut, perfect for fans of Emily Henry.
Ambition meets attraction when a food blogger's white lie collides with one very charming assistant.
Maeve Callahan is done being underestimated. As the creator of "Only One Bread," her wildly successful food blog, she's got big dreams, sharp wit, and zero patience for being called "adorable" by condescending brand reps. When a sexist restaurateur pushes her too far, Maeve does what any ambitious woman with an email and a grudge would she creates a fake assistant.
Enter Alex Johnson, her own personal inbox charmer. With "Alex" handling her emails, Maeve's business is flourishing. When a career-changing opportunity pops up in the Hamptons, complete with a celebrity chef Maeve has been dying to work with, she's sure this could be her big break. The catch? Ryan, the chef's very real assistant, holds the keys to the kitchen… and he's not exactly Maeve's biggest fan.
As Maeve tries to win Ryan over, she dives fully into her double life as "Alex." But when a surprise encounter puts them face-to-face, suddenly email banter turns into very real feelings, and Maeve will have to figure out a way to come clean about who she is without losing her career, her credibility, or the guy who might just be her happily ever after.
When Maeve is trying to get her food blog up and running, she stops in to review Stella’s, a local restaurant. After the bartender and manager get her all worked up, she leaves a pretty scathing review.
Fast-forward two years, and Maeve’s blog is doing really well. Now she wants to expand her brand by working with a big-name chef, but the chef’s assistant, Ryan, isn’t taking her calls. Turns out, Ryan was the bartender at his family’s fledgling restaurant and blames Maeve’s review for being the nail in the coffin. So, of course, he wants nothing to do with her.
Maeve decides to invent an assistant named Alex, who begins bantering with Ryan through emails in an attempt to get him to agree to a meeting between Maeve and his boss. What comes next is Maeve juggling being Alex with Ryan while also meeting with Ryan’s boss as herself. With more success comes more balls in the air, and keeping all of her stories straight becomes harder and harder.
Just when Maeve has her dreams in sight and everything she’s worked for seems to be coming to fruition, she has to decide if it’s all worth risking.

What a great debut! It was such a fast-paced and easy read.
Maeve, the FMC (love her name, by the way), is a food blogger who invents a fake assistant named Alex to sound more professional, and she begins messaging Ryan.
Their emails and their reviews were so fun. Their banter was top-notch.
My only complaint is that it made me hungry. All the talk about food. So, if you are on a diet, think twice before reading this book. But if you aren’t, you should definitely read it.
A super cute and easy read - think You’ve Got Mail with elements of Devil Wears Prada and Barefoot Contessa.
Although I found it to be a bit predictable, I still enjoyed the book nonetheless. It was fun - great chemistry, funny hidden identity shenanigans, and heartwarming moments about life and career dreams - perfect for fans of Emily Henry.
As a “You’ve Got Mail” fan, I adored every page of this. It was heartwarming and fun and so so incredible. Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy of this release in exchange for my honest review of the work!
Truly one of the best, most wholesome romances I've ever read. Descriptive food talk + small town living will always be for me 🌿🩵🧄🍝🥂🫒 Perfect for any day but especially a windy day with blue skies (would love if there was a picturesque lake involved too). Already can't wait to read this author's next work.

It's mistaken identity, and she lies. A LOT. That's pretty much the premise of this romance set in the Hamptons, and the culinary world.
Maeve is a conflict-averse food blogger who, after a horrible experience that results in a scorched earth review of a mom-and-pop and its bartender, decides that what would make her life easier is to invent a fictional assistant to be mean to people for her. Fast forward a few years, and Maeve is chasing the opportunity of a lifetime, and what stands in the way is--wait for it--the same bartender she put on blast years before. She reaches out to him as the fake assistant via email. They bump into each other in person (he doesn't recognize her), he assumes she's the assistant, and she lets him. Sometimes she actively lies to him. For many chapters. Through many increasingly intimate scenarios. What's a girl to do? Not tell the truth, apparently.
Overall, I liked this story. The characters were great, as were the family dynamics. There were themes about growing in different directions that were lovely. It was just really really, extremely hard to get beyond the lying. It was such a betrayal, so gross, and just plain selfish. I still can't decide if I'm happy she got a happy ending. I kind of think she shouldn't have.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Cosmo Reads for an ARC in exchange for my honest assessment of this work.
Let Me Get Back to You follows Maeve, a food blogger who invents a fake assistant, Alex, to handle professional emails and bypass industry sexism. When a massive career opportunity takes her to the Hamptons, her anonymous email banter with a celebrity chef's actual assistant, Ryan, turns into real-life romantic feelings. Maeve quickly finds herself trapped in a massive web of her own lies.
I was initially drawn to this premise—it felt like a fun, modern, culinary You've Got Mail. Unfortunately, by the end of the book, I was thoroughly annoyed with Maeve. The sheer volume of her lies and deceit went way too far. Her actions came across as deeply selfish, and because she showed very little genuine accountability, I'm not sure she actually deserved the happy ending she received. A fantastic setup was ultimately weighed down by a frustrating protagonist.

Thank you NetGalley,! What a joy I want to say first!!! please live this book as much as I did!! Mauve is in a love story, A love story with food, her blog, and she doesn't know it but its going to be a love story about herself in the end!!!, and honestly that's the best part of the entire book!! Mauve is a food writer of sorts and she wants a break and can't get one, but when she finally sees the chance has she ruined it by her post from "Only One Bread" and it shut down the restaurant that Ryan, who holds her future in his hands, family owned??? Ryan pushed her to far and she created Alex, Mauves 's assistant, to get to Ryan's boss...Oh what a tangled web we weave...The story keeps you going watching Mauve/Alex trying to stay ahead of her stories and fall in love with Ryan. Read the book, the story line is cute and enjoyable, characters are well written. .
Vibes are Barefoot Contessa/ Maid in Manhattan/You’ve Got Mail. If you love the miscommunication trope, this book is for you!
Fast paced and smooth read. I enjoyed the Only One Bread sections at the beginning of the chapters. I loved how she tied in romance tropes as a part of her review.
BUT, to be honest, I felt stressed for the majority of this book because it took so long to get to the big reveal. My anxiety apparently could not handle it. In real life, I’m not sure a relationship could handle that big of a mess, but the MCs made it work in the end.
I thought this was a unique premise, with the main character, Maeve, creating her own fake assistant to help with her influencer business and be taken more seriously. Things go awry when she starts falling for Ryan, who thinks Maeve is actually her assistant.
Though the concept was fun, the book ended up being SO STRESSFUL. It was a lot of deceit and lying, which made me really anxious as I kept waiting for the shoe to drop. It was hard rooting for the main character when she kept making all these horrible decisions. Though she was a bad friend/sister at times, I feel like she should’ve advocated for herself a little bit more.
