Scott Brother #2

Nothing On You

Rate this book
When my best friend asks me to plan his pre-wedding events, I happily say yes.

One I have to plan them with his younger brother, who I can’t stand after he hurt me in the worst way nine years ago.

Liam Scott, the infuriatingly handsome hockey pro, used to be one of my closest friends. But one night at a house party in college, I overheard him trash-talking me to his teammate behind my back.

Since then, I’ve kept my distance.

But now we’re spending all our free time planning romantic wedding events together, and he’s showing me a different side of himself.

It turns out that Liam is more than just a cocky hockey jokester. He’s caring, protective, and thoughtful.

He surprises me with home-cooked meals and my favorite takeout. He protects me from creeps and gets jealous when other guys flirt with me.

And when he tells me his biggest secret, I wonder if I’ve been wrong about him this whole time.

I told myself I’d never, ever fall for Liam Scott.

But my heart has other plans.

The sequel to Much Ado About Hating You! Liam's book!

This book was a quick read, but it just was not for me. It was not a bad book by any means, it just really didnt keep my attention. It might have been the dialogues in the MC's heads that was super repetitive that caused me to lose interest honestly. I'm not sure how many times I can hear the MC I did like the poetry aspect of the book, but the other parts were pretty predictable, and there wasnt really any drama or suspense.. pretty standard straight forward story, I really hesitate to call it "Enemies to Lovers" cause it was just the FMC that didnt like the MC over a miscommunication that she held onto for like 10yrs instead of just talking it out.

While this wasnt my favorite read, that doesnt mean it wont be yours! If you like the below tropes, give this a try and then feel free to come back and discuss with me 😊

Thank you Sarah Smith and Lovenotes PR for the eARC

This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Smith and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Nothing On You is an enemies to lovers, hockey romance. Liam and Kendall (the MCs) were friends in college until they had a falling out and didn’t speak for 9 years. They are brought together again when they are both tasked with planning Aidan (Liam’s brother and Kendall’s best friend) and Micah’s engagement party and other pre-wedding planning.

Liam is such a golden retriever MMC with insecurities and a lot of self doubt. His growth throughout the story is incredible to see, especially seeing him be so open with Kendall. He has such a protective and caring nature and looks out for Kendall.
Kendall is caring, hardworking and has a big heart. She is a primary carer for her aunt with MS and this book did a good job in highlighting some issues that people with disabilities face.

This book was a quick and easy read. I really enjoy hockey romances and this was a wholesome read.

Nothing On You made me laugh, ache, and smile all in the same breath.

The tension between Liam and Kendall is immediate, and you can feel the history and unspoken hurt sitting between them from the start. Liam’s softness, especially the poem, completely caught me off guard, while Kendall’s instinct to protect herself and her aunt made their emotional push and pull hit harder. I felt for both of them, which made the ending feel earned and genuinely satisfying.

This was my first Sarah Smith book, and overall I really enjoyed it. Liam is such a golden retriever MMC, full of insecurities but deeply caring and protective, and watching him open up emotionally was one of my favorite parts. Kendall’s role as a caregiver for her aunt with MS was handled with care, and as someone who has been in that position myself, those moments felt especially personal and meaningful to me.

The shorter chapters and dual POV made this an easy, fast read, and the tropes like only one bed and touch her and die pulled me in quickly. That said, around the middle the story lost some momentum for me and the writing started to feel repetitive, which dulled the emotional impact a bit. Still, this was a heartfelt, wholesome hockey romance that left me feeling warm overall, even if it didn’t fully stick the landing.

Despite a few hiccups, I’m glad I picked this one up.

This book is the follow up to Much Ado About Hating You (Aidan & Micah's story)

Liam - age 29
NHL Center for the Nashville Wolves
Hockey is all he knows and without it he's nothing
He doesn't have a fall back for when his career ends (generally due to age)
It makes him feel dumb and less than which equates to he doesn't have much to offer another person
Has a reputation as a player
Loves feisty women
Protective of those he cares about
Big brother Aidan is getting married and he’s asked Liam to be his best man
He's also asked him to plan the engagement party and rehearsal dinner
He's had it bad for Kendall since college
He wrote her a letter expressing his feelings sophomore year of college, she didn't respond (he didn't sign his name)
Things changed between them their junior year of college but he doesn't know why
He loves pushing Kendall's buttons

Kendall (aka firecracker) - age 29
Professor at East Nashville College
Aiden is her best friend
He's asked her to be his best woman at his wedding
He's also asked her to work with her frenemy Wes on the planning of the engagement party and rehearsal dinner
She's always had a crush on Wes and considered him a friend until she overheard a conversation at a frat party between Wes and another guy that was about her
She's the primary caregiver to her Auntie Christina who has MS (they're a package deal)
Scarred by previous relationships with guys who couldn't accept her relationship with her auntie (one even suggested she put her auntie in a home)
Auntie Christina likes Liam

Laim bombs his duties for the engagement party which does not help his status with Kendall. However he does redeem himself with the planning for the rehearsal dinner. He also asks Kendall to assist him with writing a poem for his best man speech.

Things remain rocky until an event occurs that moves them to speak their truths and admit their feelings for one another.

Kendall still runs from how much she cares for Liam, afraid history will repeat itself
Liam wants it all and that includes Auntie Christina

A scare helps Kendall finally come to terms with what she knows is true in her heart and that's definitely Liam.

Great book, definitely worth the read. I loved Liam and Kendall's story.

Don't skip out on the bonus epilogue.

Thank you to Sarah Smith and The Smuthood for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader copy and discover a new author. I'm most definitely interested in perusing Sarah's backlog.

Note I did preorder this book as well.

This book was a pretty easy read and I definitely enjoyed the shorter chapters! Somehow it always makes me read more. The dual POV’s was my favorite trope! I was drawn to this book initially because of the tropes “only 1 bed” and touch her and die”.

This book started off really strong for me and I definitely connected with Kendall and her relationship with her aunt. I too was also a caregiver for my aunt and I really appreciated the discussion on the difficulties that surround disabled people on a day to day basis. Around 60% through the book is when I really fell off. Unfortunately the writing was just really repetitive for my liking. That alone really killed the vibe for me. I wish the plot built up a bit more with more suspense. Overall, it was still an enjoyable read for me!

As always, thank you to Love Notes PR for an ARC copy of this book.

It starts off as a typical romance book. They are put together on an assignment and she dislikes him, or so it seems…
Later on you find out that they were friends in college, but something drove them apart, which makes this a friends to dislike to lovers😏 They are assigned to organize the wedding (& parties) of Liam’s brother/Kendalls best friend. When they’re busy doing that, they find out they don’t dislike eachother that much…💖

It was a quick and easy read with tropes that every romance reader loves. It sadly also had a miscommunication trope which I’m personally not the biggest fan of. Over all it’s a cute, fast paced book, with a little bit of spice and a golden retriever mmc🙈

This book had absolutely no business crawling into my brain and setting up permanent residence… yet here we are. Kendall and Liam just decided to move in but not pay the rent. They said no deposits and first month rent is free.

Nothing On You is one of those romances that sneaks up on you—soft at first, then suddenly you’re emotionally invested, smiling like a fool, and refusing to put it down.

Liam was more soft, swoony, and way more emotional than I expected, while Kendall was one strong boss ass bitch! She was amazing. 😻 This book sneaks up on you with easy chemistry, genuine connection, and all the feels. I was smiling, sighing, and fully invested before I even realized it.

Quietly addictive and so worth the read. 💕📖

I loved the first book in the Scott Brothers series, Much Ado About Hating You, and I couldn’t wait to read Liam’s story in Nothing on You and I loved it! I enjoyed that Liam and Kendall went from friends to enemies (on her end) to friends again to lovers and that Liam was all in on Kendall so quickly which made sense because they both had crushes on each other in college. I also liked that Kendall was the one protecting her heart and that Liam proves to her that he is relationship worthy. The portrayal of Kendall as a caregiver really resonated with me from my experience as a caregiver for my mother but made me wish I had the amount of family support Kendall and her aunt have.

Thank you to Sarah Smith and LoveNotes PR for the ARC! I was drawn to this book because we know I’m a sucker for a one bed troupe and a “touch her and die” possessive caveman, but must say this left much to be desired.

It was a little repetitive, over dramatic, and extreme at times, but then there were lines that had me laughing and kicking my feet. Ultimately, this might be a generous 3 stars for a book that included, “Excitement sparks in my tummy.” as the foreplay inner dialogue.

A cute, sweet and spicy hockey romance

Liam and Kendall would be the cutest couple if they could just find a way past their miscommunications

Liam is a sweetheart (although his constant dumb jock insecurities bothered me a bit) and Kendall felt a little immature considering her age

But reading Shakespeare's poetry and Jane Austen novels was a super fun story line I thoroughly enjoyed

🏒 Enemies to lovers
🩷 Golden retriever x black cat
🏒 Only one bed
🩷 Touch her and ☠️
🏒 Forced proximity

🌶🌶🌶 and a fun quick read

Thank you Sarah Smith and The Smuthood for the ARC opportunity 💕

This was a tough read to get through. the miscommunication trope was through the whole book up until even the last 20%.
Both main characters felt incredibly immature emotionally, and hearing their inner thoughts throughout the whole book felt repetitive and and honestly a chore to read. I especially found the FMC to be incredibly annoying with her inability to move on from past to relationship experiences when Liam had done nothing but prove he was completely different while they were together.
The spicy scenes were well written but I felt a disconnect because I did not like either character.

i have mixed feelings about this book.

on the one hand, the short chapters made it easier to get through; in fact, i’m about 80% sure that if they had been longer, i would’ve dnf’d it. still, i felt like there was never anything that truly hooked me into the story. in the second half of the book there is a lot of sexual content and, personally, it wasn’t something i enjoyed. it felt like those scenes took up space that could have been used to further develop the story and the characters.

what i did enjoy was their “not really a relationship” relationship. i liked Kendall and Liam’s conversations, the way they slowly started to understand each other again, and how their connection was rebuilt over time. that part was far more interesting to me than the sexual scenes.

Kendall wasn’t my favorite character. the maturity she claimed to have wasn’t reflected in her actions: she didn’t want to be alone, yet she pushed everyone away, which felt very contradictory to me.
it also didn’t make sense to me that she had spent years hating liam over something he supposedly said, only to accept his explanation almost immediately when he finally told her the truth. as readers, we know he’s telling the truth, but the character we were introduced to wouldn’t have accepted it that quickly.

Liam, on the other hand, was a character i did like. he was funny, kind, and genuinely caring. that said, i wish his insecurity had been explored more. i was expecting more than just one conversation with Kendall; it felt like that part was quickly forgotten.

as for their relationship… uff. i honestly would’ve preferred them to be apart for a while. the “he almost dies and i suddenly realize i love him” cliché just didn’t work for me.

thank you Love Notes for the copy 🧚🏻‍♀️

"Sticks and Stones can break my bone but words can never hurt me" was the first thing I thought of after reading this book, because words can hurt. They can leave permanent damage that you cannot see with the eye. Bones heal but the emotional damage from words can affect how you see yourself, how you interact with others, and the choices you make. Words said cannot be taken back and even if the words were untrue they were still said. Those words will linger and you will always wonder if there was some truth to them. Apologies can erase some of the doubts and pain but unless there are corresponding actions to make you believe the sincerity you'll hesitate. I always tell my husband and children that "actions speak louder than words" and I truly believe that.

Liam and Kendall started off as friends and college crushes but after Kendall overheard Liam talking to his teammates one night their friendship ended. They became acquaintances at best, Kendall only tolerating Liam. Liam joked and flirted but she ignored him for years. When they were tasked with helping his brother, her best friend, plan his pre-wedding parties and rehearsal dinner they were forced to worked together. They had to put their differences aside for Aidan and Micah.

As they spent more time together the animosity Kendall felt towards Liam shifted. She got to know him again and learned things about him that he hadn’t shared with anyone else. They talked about everything including how caring for her aunt was her top priority. Putting her Aunt's needs above her own and how that has negativity affected her previous relationships. Soon they were friends again and actively talking, not only about the wedding preparations. Then once again Liam put his foot in his mouth and hurt Kendall with his words, even though he was only trying to protect her.

After being iced out again, Liam was determined to make amends even though he wasn't sure how. He still didn't know why Kendall was so upset and why she pulled away from him in college. While storm stayed in Mexico, Kendall finally revealed the truth to Liam and he was upset to learn how his words, meant to protect both times, had hurt her. He shared the details surrounding both incidents and they were able to get past the hurt. They also revealed mutual crushes during college and acted on that attraction. When they returned home, the vacation fling continued in a friends with benefits type situation until real feelings were caught.

Liam was ready for the shift and wanted more with Kendall. He admitted that and Kendall ran scared. She had scars from previous relationships and was scared of the what ifs. She needed to decide if the risk was worth the reward not only for herself but for her aunt as well. When something happened to Liam during a game, Kendall realized that love was worth the risk. She needed to use her words to tell Liam what he meant to her. She had to trust that his words and his actions while they were together could be trusted. She had to trust herself to act accordingly as well.

Could the "dumb jock" win the heart of the literature professor? Could the words written by famous authors bring two souls together after a decade of hurt?

I loved reading Liam and Kendall's story. I loved her aunt and how family was such a priority for both main characters. Thank you Sarah Smith and LoveNotesPR for the ARC and the opportunity to review this wonderful book!

Thank you to Love Notes PR and Sarah Smith for the ARC opportunity.

Nothing On You earned a solid three stars for me. As a romance novel featuring several of my favorite tropes, I went in with high expectations. While it wasn’t flat by any means, it ultimately didn’t live up to the excitement I had built around it.

This book is an easy, engaging read, and had life not gotten in the way, I likely would’ve finished it in a day or two. The pacing is fairly quick, and I appreciated that the story dropped us right into the midst of the turmoil rather than spending chapters setting the stage. I felt like no time was wasted, and I enjoyed how the characters’ backgrounds were woven naturally into the narrative instead of being dumped all at once. The plot itself was enjoyable. There were moments that made me laugh and others that genuinely made me teary-eyed. I also appreciated that this story had a clear plot rather than existing solely as a vehicle for smut.

That said, I did feel disappointed as the story progressed. Around the 60% mark, the pacing and writing began to dip for me. While I expect intimate scenes in romance novels, three chapters in a row felt excessive. I wanted to see more emotional growth and connection rather than repeated scenes behind closed doors. After the first few, the intimate moments began to feel repetitive — not necessarily in content, but in how they were written. The sudden and frequent use of the word “baby” also felt jarring, and one later bedroom scene made me uncomfortable enough to pull me out of the story.

I was also disappointed by how certain plot elements seemed to fade into the background. The wedding and the book club felt like important components early on, but they were largely glossed over later. I would have loved to see more scenes of the characters reading together, navigating wedding planning, or even struggling through things like writing the best man speech. Instead, many of these moments were summarized rather than shown. I also would’ve enjoyed more hockey content, though that’s purely personal preference.

When it comes to the characters, I had a love–hate relationship with Kendall. I loved her dedication to caring for her aunt with MS and admired her strength and refusal to tolerate disrespect. She knew what she wanted and wasn’t willing to settle. However, I struggled with how often she brushed Liam off when he tried to explain his side of past events. She held tightly to old feelings born from a misunderstanding years earlier, and given how she was otherwise written, I expected her to be more open to hearing him out rather than making assumptions.

Liam, on the other hand, was a surprisingly strong character for me. He had me laughing and shaking my head throughout the story, and I felt he experienced the most noticeable character growth of the two — not just at the end, but consistently over time. I appreciated how genuine he was, especially in moments when he dropped his public persona and allowed himself to be real around Kendall. While I didn’t love how much he belittled himself early on, I was glad to see him grow beyond that by the end.

Overall, this book was by no means bad. It’s an enjoyable, easy romance, and I’d recommend it to romance readers looking for something light and accessible. While it didn’t fully hit the mark for me, the story was engaging enough that I think it’s worth reading and forming your own opinion.

Nothing On You is de second book in the Scott Brothers series. The first book in the series is Much Ado About Hating You and it’s about Aiden and Micah. This book is about Liam (Aiden’s younger brother) and Kendall.
The story starts with Aiden asking Liam to be his best man and help with pre-wedding planning. Which he happily accepts, not knowing he has to work together with Kendall. Liam and Kendall used to be good friends in college, but had a falling out and haven’t seen each other for nine years.
Right from the beginning you get a sense that there is more to the story about Liam’s and Kendall’s falling out than they let on. It definitely made me curious trying to figure out what happened.
Liam is the cocky and popular pro hockey player. But pretty soon you find out there is more to him than meets the eye. He’s very thoughtful, sweet and caring. Especially for the people he cares deeply about. I felt like he was almost too perfect, but at the same time he totally made me swoon. I think that everyone deserves someone like Liam in their life. The way he is with Kendall, caring and protective, even though she can’t stand him at first.
I absolutely loved how wholesome the whole book is. Kendall is the primary caretaker for her aunt and I thought this was an amazing thing to do for a young person. Especially with a full time job. Knowing that she’s been hurt in past relationships because of this, Liam goes above and beyond to make Kendall happy. He would do anything for her. He honestly feels like the whole package. I was disappointed when I thought things might not work out between the two of them, but in the end they got a well deserved HEA. I really believe that Liam and Kendall can be considered couple goals. Even though they were enemies at first, were they really?
I give this book 5 stars. It was a fun and easy read. I loved the slow build up to the romance (and spice). I went through all the emotions in this book. Sarah Smith really delivered on a sweet and fun romance story. I know I couldn’t get enough of Liam and Kendall. I was so sad when the story ended. Overall I would definitely recommend this book.

Nothing On You surprised me with how much it balanced romance and emotional depth within what initially feels like a light-hearted enemies-to-lovers story. At its core, it’s a book about misunderstandings, second chances, and learning to see someone beyond first impressions — and that emotional journey is what stayed with me most as I read it.
The plot setup is simple but effective: the protagonist agrees to plan her best friend’s pre-wedding events and is forced to work with his younger brother — Liam Scott — someone she swore she’d never forgive. Liam’s initial behavior toward her in college left real emotional scars, and watching both characters navigate old hurts, defensiveness, and unexpected attraction made their interactions feel earned rather than contrived.
What struck me most about the novel was how Liam’s character isn’t just the stereotypical cocky athlete who “suddenly becomes sweet.” Yes, he’s handsome and confident, but he also has a softer, thoughtful side that shows up in the small things — cooking, remembering favorite foods, standing up for her when it matters — and that made the emotional payoff feel very genuine.
The pacing worked well for me, too: the transition from irritation and old resentment to curiosity, then attraction, is gradual enough that I didn’t feel rushed into the romance. The “secret” he reveals about himself was a nice moment of vulnerability that deepened my empathy for him and reframed a lot of what came before.
Unlike some romances that rely mostly on sexy scenes or sharp banter, this book struck a balance: there’s plenty of heat, but there’s also emotional grounding — moments where I genuinely cared about whether these two could overcome past wounds together. For that reason, Nothing On You worked for me both as a feel-good read and as a story about personal growth and forgiveness.

Final thought:
If you enjoy romantic tension that evolves into real affection — especially in the enemies-to-lovers and second-chance trope space — this book delivers satisfying emotional beats and a warm, engaging love story.

After finishing "Nothing On You," I’m officially ready to go back and read the first book in this series. This sequel falls beautifully in the "Golden Retriever MMC vs. Black Cat FMC" trope. The chemistry is electric, moving from enemies-to-lovers tension into a protective, "touch her and die" devotion that had me hooked. The author nails the pacing perfectly; the story moves quickly enough to stay addictive, but it never sacrifices the slow-burn build-up that makes the eventual spice (and that "Only One Bed" scene!) feel so earned. Speaking of spice, the creative use of "toys as teammates" was a fun, memorable addition that certainly kept things interesting.

As a massive hockey romance fan, I loved how immersive the sports elements felt. The detailed focus on training and specific plays made the setting feel authentic rather than just a backdrop. While I would have loved to see a bit more of the FMC’s professional world to balance the heavy focus on the MMC, Liam himself was such a standout character. My only minor gripe is that I wanted a bit more resolution regarding his internal struggle with his identity outside of hockey. He mentions not having talents beyond just hockey several times, and I kept waiting for a more definitive moment of exploration or growth fir him, especially with all the reading and analyzing of certain works.

What really heightened this book for me, though, was its representation of Multiple Sclerosis and disability advocacy. The way the story spotlights the pitfalls of ADA accessibility and the reality of navigating a world not built for wheelchairs was done tastefully. It’s not written from a place of pity, and instead stands for a call for mindfulness and equality. Seeing the MMC step up as a genuine advocate for the FMC’s aunt was incredibly moving and added a layer of emotional depth you don’t always find in rom-coms.

Overall, this was a sweet, spicy, and meaningful read that I’d highly recommend to any contemporary romance lover. Looking forward to reading more by Sarah Smith in the future!

4.6 ⭐ 4🌶️

A hockey romance, but make it minimal hockey... Just give him the killer bod and sexy ego that comes with it, but also throw in some humility and BOOM! Liam Scott.

So your brother(who by the way has his own book, that has been in my libby holds for months, and I cannot wait to read it!) is getting married, and he needs a best man, you're just the man for the job right? Bachelor parties are totally something you can do... Oh, he wants you to help plan the entire engagement party, and all of the pre-wedding arrangements... Umm, well, That's alot for a man who never has had to take anything but Hockey seriously.

Did I forget to mention that He wants you to plan it with Kendall, the woman who has hated your guts since college. Yeah. You used to be best friends, not sure what happened, but it's been 9 years of scowls and jabs at any chance she can get. But you live for those moments, and maybe, just maybe you can break through the tough wall she's erected.

This was a great book, with a man who just does it for me... I hate to admit that I obviously love the jocky ego, but I doo. But Liam is so much more than just that and I love that he isn't ashamed of his book preferences, even if he has to overcome his self depreciating ways.

Kendall is a book girl's idol. She has an incredible profession, great friends, and that's not even talking about her heart. She has so much love and gives it without hesitation... Unless it's for herself. Her inability to get past her fears is almost a value, until it isn't.

The fire and intensity is hot hot, and I just need you to understand, that yes Liam and his ego need to be mentioned as what I just said. Liam and HIS EGO. He knows what he's capable of. But the fact that that first scene together happens the way it does, and he responds the way he does... No words. 🥵 I haven't listened to this one, but I so hope its a duet and I need this scene!

Thank you to Sarah and The Smuthood for a great time!!

Have you ever read an author, loved them, and then they fell off your radar? When you finally read another one of their books, you remember why you love them and can’t believe it’s been so long since you’ve read them! That is what Nothing on You by Sara E Smith did for me and her writing. This is book 2 in her Scott Brothers series, and while the couple from book 1 are an important part of this book, you do not need to worry about reading it first. I will definitely be going back and reading book 1 though with my remembered love of Sara’s writing.

Liam and Kendall are so much fun to read about. They knew each other in college, but due to a misunderstanding they had a falling out. Kendall is the one who walked away and while you get to know both of them in book 1, book 2 dives deeper into their past and present. A wedding brings them back into each other’s orbits as the groom is Liam’s brother and Kendall’s best friend. Liam is determined to make their time together count and show Kendall how much he cares for her. How much he has always cared about her.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Liam in this book. His eagerness to show Kendall how special she is to him is so sweet. His reputation is that of a player, but as you get to know him, you realize he has self esteem issues that he is working through. Hockey is everything to him and he doesn’t know what he would be without it. Kendall is all fire and sass and I love her! She doesn’t let Liam get away with things. As she allows herself to open up to Liam and allow for time to clear past situations, she realizes what her heart has been telling her all along.

Sara provides a wonderful, heartwarming story that while lighthearted has moments of depth of complexity about love, family, and trust. I am so happy that I rediscovered the love I have for Sara’s books.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

First off, we haven't really been in close contact with Aiden and Liam's mom, but I love her taste in names (So props to Sarah, I'm a fan). What did I enjoy about this book? I liked the spice, it was pretty believable, and didn't seem forced. I thought the chemistry mentioned in Much Ado About Hating You was believable and transitioned well into this story. I wanted there to be more of a reason for these two to be at each other's necks than what was given. I believed their relationship. I liked that Liam was willing to improve on himself, especially when he got a clue as to his supposed sin. He was willing to read something that he wasn't comfortable with to ensure that Kendall saw that he wasn't such a jerk.

I hate giving this low of a rating to Sarah because I love her Denver Bashers series, but for some reason this series hasn't been doing it for me. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but the conversations don't sell me. It took me too long to decide that I liked Kendall, much like Micah, these ladies hold long and petty judges. Something I would expect of a 20 year old, but not of a 30 year old. I also didn't love the insecurity of Liam. I didn't like how each statement he made about himself was sandwiched inside a personal slam. For example, his speech was filled with "I bet you're surprised a dumb jock like me could write a speech".

So should you read this? Sure, it was a quick read and was harmless enough. It did it's job in keeping me engaged. I hate to say it, but this blonde man was swoon worthy. Crazy, eh?

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.75
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 (Spice starts at about 52%)

Liam is an NFL hockey player and has lived his whole life just thinking he can ONLY do hockey and he has nothing to fall back on if that goes south.
Kendall is a bookworm who is also a professor. She and Liam went to college together and were best friends until one night she overheard him saying some really hurtful things to his teammate about her and she distanced herself from him. In the 9 years they were apart, she’s been taking care of her aunt who has MS (as someone with MS, I appreciate the representation). She’s had boyfriends who see her aunt as a burden so things have never worked out. Liam is the complete opposite of every boyfriend she’s ever had, but she hates him for what he said.

Liam’s brother, Aidan, is getting married so naturally he’s the best man, but Kendall is the best woman since she’s best friends with Aidan. The groom and bride, Micah, ask the 2 if they would work together and plan their engagement party, rehearsal dinner and joint bachelorette/bachelor party. They’re both hesitant but agree. They start getting along and Liam wants to start writing his speech and asks for Kendall’s help with reading her favorite romance novels. They start a book club between the 2 of them. Their feelings start to change over the weeks they’re planning these events together. Finally the bachelor/bachelorette trip comes along, but Kendall is back to hating Liam. The day they are supposed to leave, a storm rolls through and delays their flight so they go back to the hotel they were originally staying at and surprise! there’s only 1 room left and 1 bed left 🤭
The following 3 nights in Cabo change it all…

I loved this book 🥹 Liam is a total softie and Kendall is his perfect match. I love how sweet he was to her aunt and how accepting he was that they were a package deal. He was ALL in and so caring of them both. The scene after auntie Christina fell was so heartwarming 🥹

Mr. Darcy & Captain Frederick Wentworth
Listening to audiobooks is reading!!! Accessibility matters! It’s doesn’t matter in what format you consume and experience a book. “Reading” is reading.
I love how big of a role the great works of romantic literature played in the story. I think sometimes we forget that love is timeless and has been expressed in different forms and fashions throughout the ages. The new age of romance is just a different embodiment of love. Jane Austen is classic. It’s pure perfection.
I liked how steadfast Kendall was about her family. She and her auntie are a package deal. There was no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It was her choice. Her auntie deserved the same experiences and access as everyone else. Family played a big part of the story for Liam as well with his father & brother. Respect and forgiveness matter just as much as communication.
I like that his teammates weren’t mean to him for reading while working out and trying something new. Liam Scott was realistic about not being able to physical play forever and needing to find what was next in his life. He chose to expand his mind and start a book club. It made me sad sometimes how negative his self talk was and how harshly negative he compared himself to others.
My only critique was pacing. It seemed like things happened too fast or were just blindly forgiven. Kendall held a grudge for 9 years but dismisses all of it in 5 months? It was a little too fantastical for me. I still had questions that needed answers.
I loved hoe Liam remembered all of Kendall’s preferences. He knew he likes and dislikes. He paid attention to her moods. He really saw her.

Suggested reading order to date:
1. Much Ado About Hating You
2. Nothing on You

Nothing On You Review 🏒📜

I received an ARC for this book, so I would like to thank Sarah Evacherre Smith and Love Notes for sending it to me.

So, in this book we have Liam, who is a professional hockey player and Aidan’s brother, and Kendall, a teacher and Aidan’s best friend.

From what we learn in the previous book, Aidan, Liam, and Kendall were all friends while they were in college, but something happened between Kendall and Liam that made Kendall start to hate him. So every time they met, for the past nine years, Kendall has been cold and irritated with him.

Aidan asks the two of them to help with the pre-wedding preparations, so they are forced to work together and actually talk to each other.

I felt sad every time Liam talked badly about himself, how he thought he was stupid and only good for hockey, and that hockey was the only thing he had in his life.

I liked how Kendall always reassured him that he was not stupid, that he was worth it, and that he could do whatever he wanted.

I loooved the fact that Liam tried to read a book in college to impress her, but I didn’t really like the explanation of what happened in the past that made Kendall mad at him. I thought it didn’t really make sense.

I will confess, I am not a fan of poetry. It never really hits me right, like the poem that Kendall shows Liam and says it was hot. When I read it, I was like, “That’s it?” So that part of the book didn’t really do it for me, but Liam made it worth it with his groomsman speech! That poem I loved.

I loved how Kendall took care of her tia and how Liam accepted and respected that part of her life. So, with all being said, this book is a 4 ⭐️ read for me. 🏒📜

This book is the literal definition of wrong time, right person. Both characters have internal struggles that affect the overall strong bonded friendship they once has back in university. However, after nine years of distance between Kendal & Liam as they are forced to be in closed proximities with each other due to the groom being as Liams brother being (Aiden) and Kendalls best friend being (Micah) are soon to be married. Leaving them with the responsibility to plan the the pre wedding events.

Through this novel, it shows on how miscommunication with the people we love and are important to us can affect us no matter how long it has been since the incident and oftentimes, the icky feeling we are left with linger and seep into the overall perspective we have on certain people that are close to us.

Sara Smiths novel contains dual povs that shows the thought process and reasons to why either Liam or Kendall said or did in high tension moments that they shared. Which added depth to both main characters in ways that make them seem more human like. For instance, Liam carries the label as a well known hockey player but also is being perceived as nothing more than a dumb hockey player. This minimal negative thought leads him to believe that he is incapable to succeed in other areas that are discovered in this specific novel.

If you want some high tension open romance but also, a book that touches on insecurities from both characters then consider adding this to your never ending TBR list for the year 2026

(Please be advised, this book contains explict scenes and high levels of profanity that may be disturbing to some readers)

Received an ARC version of the book

Perfect for anyone looking for a light-hearted, quick, romantic read.

At first, I thought Kendall came off as a bit intense with her anger towards Liam. I appreciated that the author tells us early in the book (page 19) what Liam said so many years ago that made Kendall have a grudge against him instead of having us wait until later in the book. (Hint: it's a miscommunication).

I didn't realize this was book two in a series, but thankfully the author explained characters and character dynamics, so I didn't feel lost as a reader.

I loved the interactions between Kendall and Liam from their romantic moments (like cake tasting) to more emotionally charged ones where they talked about their fears and insecurities. Also, who knew Liam was such a lover boy?

Taking off one star for use of the word tummy instead of stomach, which comes off as a bit juvenile (i.e. “he flashes me that lopsided grin that gives me tingles in my tummy”) and minor character inconsistencies. For example, Kendall and her Aunt Christina have a close relationship so I found it odd that Christina didn't know about him until all three of them were having brunch together. I thought Kendall would have told Christina all about Liam especially because Liam and Kendall were close friends in college.

Overall, this book had me laughing, fangirling, and blushing because the spicy scenes definitely brought the heat. I look forward to reading more of the author's works!

💭 Non-Spoiler Review
Overall this book was perfectly fine it just wasn’t really for me. I signed up for this arc because I love the idea of enemies to lovers and while the initial cause of them being enemies is a classic case of the FMC (Kendall) heard something and didn’t speak to the MMC (Liam) about it resulting in her hating him for like 10 years. Honestly I found Kendall really annoying. She would get so pissed at Liam (over reasonable things like him being late to a scheduled dinner between the two of them) but when he goes to explain why she just refuses to listen and this is all made worse when some fans come up and ask Liam for a photo/autograph. Liam has an almost constant stream of self deprecating thoughts about how he’s stupid and all he can do is hockey. While this isn’t my first hockey romance book where the MMC is portrayed as “stupid” this is the first one where that is the characters whole personality trait it seems.

Again this book was perfectly fine and with virtually no drama would make a quick read for someone it just wasn’t for me.

📖 Would I Recommend?
No? I don’t have anyone who I would recommend this to but this book would be perfect for someone out there.

Best for readers who love:
Perfect for fans of hockey romance, enemies to lovers, dirty talk, praise, forced proximity, and protective “touch her and die” energy.

Nothing On You is the second book in the Scott Brothers series. The first one, Much Ado About Hating You, follows Aiden and Micah, and this time the story focuses on Liam (Aiden’s younger brother) and Kendall.

The story begins when Aiden asks Liam to be his best man and help with the wedding planning. Liam agrees without hesitation… not knowing he’ll have to work closely with Kendall.

From the very beginning, it’s clear that there’s much more to their fallout than either of them is willing to admit. I really enjoyed slowly uncovering what actually happened in their past

Liam is a popular, confident professional hockey player, but it doesn’t take long to see that there’s so much more to him beneath the surface. He’s incredibly sweet, thoughtful, and caring. I especially loved how protective and attentive he is toward Kendall-even when she can’t stand him at first.

Kendall is the primary caretaker for her aunt, which is incredibly admirable, especially while working full-time. Knowing that this caused her pain in past relationships, Liam goes above and beyond to make her feel safe and loved. To me, he’s a total green flag 💚

There was a moment when I genuinely worried things wouldn’t work out, but thankfully we got a beautiful ending that they both truly deserved. Definitely couple goals-even if they started out as enemies… were they really? 👀

⭐ 5/5
This was a light, enjoyable read with a lovely slow burn. It took me through so many emotions, and I honestly wasn’t ready to say goodbye to this story.

Ooooh this book was SO GOOD!! I absolutely loved every minute of this one!! The first one was so good, and this one absolutely lived up to the same level!! Kendall was such a sweet FMC, and seeing how hard she worked not only at her job, but also in being a caretaker, was so incredible and really showcased how strong and steadfast she was for her loved ones! She was so effortless in how she gave her love and care away, and seeing her grow and learn to accept that love and care in return was absolutely beautiful! And I loved so much how we got to see Liam learn to accept his insecurities and start the path or building new skills and knowledge to work on himself! Seeing him be so open and vulnerable with Kendall was so real and raw, it gave their relationship such a beautiful edge, and I loved getting to see the evolution that they were able to take from there! His path and growth through the book really was so wonderful to watch, and opened him up to such great potential for the future! Seeing these two come together in such fun and funny circumstances was really great, and I just adored every second of it! And all the side characters made the whole story that much better!! Overall, this one was really excellent, and I just loved it so much! 5 stars; 3.25 chili peppers

Nothing On You🧸
Firstly,I want to thank LoveNotes PR & Sarah Smith for trusting me with this ARC!
Prepare the wedding?Easy
But when Liam Scott comes into the game, things are about to get hard and... messy.

Oh.My.God.
This story was literally SO GOOD.Personally,I read on a train ride, and not only the time FLEW BY,but I was also giggling, laughing etc SO HARD!-I just hope the people behind me were not enjoying the smut scenes too!oopsies!-🫠
Now,getting into the actual story,I can honestly say was PERFECT.The plot was build step by step, and as the tension between the two main characters grew too,it was the perfect duo to begin with.Plus, you cannot go wrong with prepare the wedding trope.IT ALWAYS HITS!
Kendall, our main girl was so sunshiny &cute.Plus,I loved how passionate, caring and full of fire she was.Liam,on the other side was the classic misunderstood type of mmc and until the moment we got to finally know him,I agreed that he was a big jerk, yet when that specific time came, everyone knew that he was not only a gentleman, but also had THE BIGGEST HEART!-my favourites ? ALL the scenes with K's aunt!
To continue, their romance was FIRE!It was slow burn, filled with love and it was one of the times you could sense it has always been there, just needed the right time to blossom.AND THANK GOT IT DID,because I really believe the next marriage is theirs.
Long story short,if you want THE romance for your start of 2026 Nothing On You is for you.
