The fifth book in the Cheetah Girls series returns to Galleria's POV as the Cheetahs head to Hollywood to perform in a showcase with the hopes of scoring a record deal from a record company. They go site-seeing in LA and continue their cheetah-banter.

The Cheetah sisters sure are going places - five books in and they're already on their way to Hollywood! At this point, even with a different kind of "performance" the girls do, it's feeling rather repetitive, "you know what I'm saying"? There isn't a great deal to say on this one other than it was cool to see them in a different location, and to see how they perform under pressure with this opportunity. The writing is still hella-cheesy ("I'm supa-dupa hungry-poo") and this is becoming a slow descent into madness while reading, but I still think this series would have been so great to have read as a tween.

There is a minor subplot in this one of Galleria seeing a dog collar for Toto, only to find it's too big for him, so she ends up making Cheetah Girls chokers. To say I'm relieved they cut that out of the 2003 movie is an understatement, because it carries on into the next book...

Woof, There It Is (Updated)
The Cheetah Girls are finally in the air after being delayed because of “Furious Flo”(a tropical rainstorm) and are on their way to Hollywood California (where they’ll be performing at the Tinkerbelle Lounge on Sunset Blvd). Galleria is in so much disbelief that they’re going to Hollywood that she keeps playing with the plane ticket. Until Mrs. Doretha makes her put it away.

It tells how the trip came to be. Kahlua Alexander heard them sing and she hooked them up to be in a “New Talent Showcase” sponsored by her label Def Duck Records. Doretha is looking at her bills and Galleria starts to think she hopes they get a deal soon so it’ll take the pressure off her mom. The plane hits some turbulence and Dorinda and Chuchie are cool. Galleria starts to feel a little nauseated, but the twins well lets just say they don’t just *feel a little sick*. Galleria starts to polish her nails but is told by the stewardness its not allowed. Then Chuchie teases her about the stain on her blouse as a result of her lunch falling on the floor because of the turbulence. Galleria vows to get her back once they get to Cali.

They arrive at the airport and are greeted by their driver Pedro. Unfortunately for Dorinda, her suitcase pops open and all her clothes go spilling out. Pedro goes to rescue then by a guy snatches up Dorinda’s cheetah panties and asks who they belong to. Pedro snatches them from him and the guy is disappointed. By then everyone is looking at them. A lady comes over and hands Pedro one of Dorinda’s undershirts. Then they run into Stak Cheeda (the rap group that beat them at the Apollo). Galleria doesn’t want to say why they’re there so she says they’re there to shoot a video.

They say they’re there to hit up their rich uncle Dudley to back their group. Before they go, they tell Dorina nice underwear. Galleria snaps back they can’t all carry duffel bags like them. On the way back there’s silence. Galleria tries to convince them it’s not an omen. The CG’s seem to forget about Stak Cheeda quickly enough with the California sights. Dorinda tho is still a lil quiet despite Galleria trying to cheer her up by tickling her.

They’re then taken to the Royal Rooster Hotel. There are roosters decorating the ceiling and furniture. Everything is in royal blue, red, and purple. The elevators are gilded in gold. They don’t have two suites so they have to wait. The twins don’t want rooms on the very top. They settle in and then plan to have lunch and go sightseeing. Mrs. Doretha suggests they dress “cheetah certified”. They decide on Aunt Kizzy’s Back Poarch for lunch. On the walk to the restaurant, they pass a Josephine Baker poster in the window of a shop, that Mrs Doretha admires longingly. Galleria goes in to bargain. It’s 5,000. The lady offers to bring it down to 4,000. Galleria wishes she had the duckets.

After Aunt Kizzy’s, Galleria discovers her period has come on. Channel gives her (her) sweater to tie around her waist. She also ducks into a bathroom to get a sanitary napkin. It doesn’t stop them from going to see Hollywood. They run into Stak Cheeda who asks about the video. They even offer to be in it but Galleria says their contract says they can’t have another artist in it. They ask about their uncle Dudley. Stakk says he’s fine and feeling better. He’s gonna back them with some serious funds. They high tail it out of there.

In the window of another store, Galleria sees a cheetah studded collar for 30.00 and buys it. The CG go for sound check. Of course, Stak Cheeda show up. They both admit they lied and are both in the showcase. Before they leave after sound check, Stak Cheeda tells the CG’s they were feeling their performance at the Apollo and are sorry it went down like it did. Stakk says one of thier boys told us some peeps from Def Duck Records would be rollin’ up into Twice As Nice on the Grand Concourse, on open mike night with DJ Sweet, so we signed up and they freaked it. Galleria tells him about their hook up with Khalua.

Before the performance, the CG’s meet the Cash Money Girlz for the first time. Chuchie comes with the idea for them to wear rhinestones in their hair. Doretha gives Galleria an idea for a saying in their credo. Cheetah Girls don’t liter they glitter. The promoter Mr. Pet wants them to go first but this doesn’t work for Mrs. Dorthea so he changes the line up.

The CG’s give a great performance. They sing “Jiggy Jungle” and “Shop In The Name of Love”. They notice the CMG’s throwing money on stage and Angie says maybe they should do something like that. Galleria definitely thinks they have “flava”. After they come off stage, they find out they’re from Oakland. Stakk Cheeda perform and get a record deal. Mr. Pet says he has to play the Cheetah Girls tape for some higher ups and it might take him a few weeks to get back with them. They agree that if they have to wait they just have to wait but Galleria worries that Dorinda will find something else, Chanel might get yanked out the group, and a few weeks might turn into months and years.

Back home, the collar was too big for Toto so Galleria decides to wear it. Derek says he wishes he had one to wear in a upcoming fashion show. Galleria says they make them and he tells her to make him one. She takes his 20.00. Galleria says she’ll even put “schemo” on it. Then she offers to make LaRhonda one for 10.00. She says she’ll put her name on it. They’ll make five for themselves to wear all the time as advertisement.

They go get the fabric. Franco asks can he help but Galleria tells him she’s good. She wants to do the chockers on her own. They finish the chockers and wrap them in tissue paper in a nice Toto in NY bag. Then they go downtown to hit some boutiques to see if they’re interested in buying any. At the one they choose, the manager says no one would buy them but kids and those aren’t his customers. As they part, Chanel tells Galleria what do adults know. Galleria tells herself what does he know. The chockers are dope.

Galleria shows her mom her chocker and she says she doesn’t think adults will wear it. Galleria is crushed. Her mom tells her the story of how when she made her first collection she got laughed right out the stores by the buyers. But she knew she’d wear her clothes so she knew others would too. She tells her sometimes people don’t know they want something until it’s there. You gotta make people want your stuff. Things went slow when she opened the boutique but now its jumping, So, be ready for a fight. Galleria tells her she’s worried about the store but she says the store will come through and it’ll pay off being their manager.

Galleria decides to wear the chockers until someone recognizes her talent. Woof There It Is she thinks. Then she writes that down in her notebook thinking it’ll make a good song (rolls eyes).

My Thoughts:
This felt like a set up book. We all know the Cheetah Girls are gonna get a contract and waiting is all apart of the game. (For ANYONE). This book had to be done to go through the trip and the showcase. Honestly, I still think Bubbles songs are kind of lame. Just my opinion. But maybe the music and their voices and the costumes help.

I found it hard time believing that Bubbles would walk around LA with a blood stain on her outfit and not go back to the hotel to change. I know she had sweater tied around her waist, but had it been me I would have made them go back to the hotel. That’s NOT a good feeling. It just leaves you self-conscious. I would get on Bubbles for not knowing and keeping up with her days (unless this was her first time) but well sometimes it is kinda hard. And this part reminded me a lot of the movie when she stepped in dog stuff on the way to the studio in the tv movie.

There wasn’t *that* much to say about the showcase. It went how you’d imagine any of em to go. I just imagined them singing “Cinderella” for a much larger audience and not in a school auditorium.

Then there were the ideas of the dog turned Cheetah collar which absolutely in my head CAN work. Teenage kids are very impressionable and it just takes the right person to pull off a trend. I think Bubbles has that confidence to rock a cheetah dog collar. And I think it’s smart on her part to not sit around and wait for the contract to go through. I admire her determination.
