The sixth Cheetah Girls book follows Chanel's POV and is unfortunately my least favourite one in the series so far, and definitely one of the most unnecessary.

After their stint in Hollywood, the Cheetah Girls are waiting to hear back from Def Duck Records. In the meantime, the girls decide to make a side-business by making and selling their own homemade chokers - an idea inspired by their trip to LA. Chanel also wants to try her hand at writing a song for the Cheetah Girls, but Galleria is the songwriter (and leader) for the group.

In regards to the Cheetah Girls and their ongoing search for stardom, this book is totally filler-fodder. Nothing substantial happens besides the girls selling homemade chokers at school for ten dollars a-piece. The only remotely interesting thing that happened in this was the argument between Galleria and Chanel because Chanel wants to try her hand at writing lyrics, but Galleria won't let her. They end up coming up with a rip-off of 'It's Raining Men' with a very bad original song called 'It's Raining Benjamins' (seriously the songs in this are no 'Cheetah Sisters' or even 'Strut').

The characters can be, again, insufferable. Chanel is very judgmental of another student's teeth, and Galleria can be quite nasty sometimes to her own friends, especially Chanel, and Chanel lets her get away with it. They do argue and make up rather quickly, but sometimes these girls are not following the Cheetah Girls Credo that is detailed at the start of every book. They need to follow their own rules.

Also movie shout-out to when Galleria steps in poop and doesn't realise, causing Chanel to have to help her get it off in a bathroom. I liked seeing that in here, though it does reinforce that power-dynamic between the two and how worse it is in the books than it is in the movies.

It’s Raining Benjamins (Updated)
Channel meets “Do” at their spot (inside the school by their lockers). The subject of Chanel’s mentions that she’ll be seeing her grandmother Florita Saturday because it’s Pucci’s birthday. It’s a big deal because Chanel’s dad will be coming to visit and he doesn’t do that much since he left five years ago. Pucci is turning 10.

A girl named Kadeesha Ruffin mean mugs Channel and then walks on down the hallway. Do says she’s just jealous. Chanel wonders why. What did she ever do to her? Could be because the school’s still buzzing over the Cheetah Girls being flown out to LA for the showcase. Although, its hard to admit to them that they haven’t heard anything back about a record deal. Then Channel reminds us of how their chockers came about (Bubbles bought a cheetah chocker for Toto in LA. It was too big for him so she decided to wear it. The students ate it up and she decided to sell them).

Bubbles walks in late (Channel and Do are looking for her to give their two customers their chockers)with her head into her notebook. (She never lets anyone see her songs until she’s finished). Chuchie tries to snatch the notebook. She says she’s trying to come up with more songs ‘cuz she knows Def Duck will call them soon about the demo. Channel isn’t so sure. A showcase and a record deal are two different things. But there’s always hope. Channel thinks Bubbles songs are dope but lately she’s been thinking she could probably write songs too, if Bubbles would give her a chance.

Bubbles says the name of it is “Woof There It Is” and she got it from the idea of the chockers. Even tho her mom said they looked like dog collars and adults wouldn’t hear them. Bubbles has the chockers and has made one for Derek with the word “SCEMO” (which means “Idiot” in Italian). Bubbles discovers she’s accidently stepped in some dog poop and Channel offers to get it off before anyone smells it. Some people tease her on their way to the bathroom because she’s walking on her tip toes.

At first, the water ddoesn’t come on. Kadeesha comes in the bathroom while they’re trying to get the poop off Galleria’s shoes, but Dorinda quickly tells her to get lost. Channel has soaked Galleria’s shoes and she makes a smart mouth comment so Chennel loses her temper. She admits to her friends that what’s really bothering her is Saturday is Pucci’s birthday and her mother hasn’t gotten him a Chihuahua like she promised. Channel REALLY wants a dog “for Pucci”. Galleria correctly guesses she doesn’t want to ask her mom because she’ll say something about the money, she still owes her. Do suggest she offer to pay for half with the money from the chockers. They can go around all week and put in orders and earn up to 30.00 to put in for the dog.

Later, Dorinda suggests getting Pucci an African Pygmy hedgehog. It’s cheaper and easier to take care of than a dog. Dorinda is hoping Mrs. Bosco will let her get one “for Topwe”. Galleria and Channel catches out the pictures of them in a book Dorinda has with them in it. Bubbles hands over the chocker to Derek and he seems pleased by it and pays her. Only he gives her 10.00 instead of 20.00. He says Laronda got it for 10.00. Galleria says can’t blame a Cheetah Girl for trying. Channel tries to get Mackerel to get one too and Dorinda makes the sell. Derek invites them to a fashion show he’ll be in and Galleria says she’ll let him know. He knows that they call him “Red Snapper” behind his back and they suspect Kadeesha probably told him. She’s probably into him.

Channel says she can give LaRonda her chocker in class, but Galleria says I’d be better if Do did it. Cause they all know Channel can’t be trusted with money. Then she gets on Channel for not knowing Oakland was in California. Cheetah asks (hints) that she bets the (Cash Money Girls?) writer their raps *together*. Then she suggests flat out that they write the songs together. Bubbles tells her to stick with what she does best. Like taking the dog poop off her shoes. DAMN THAT’S LOW! This is where we need TV MOVIE CHANNEL! But Channel just falls back. It’s not like they even have a record deal she tells herself.

Channel makes another sale in class to a girl named Daisy Duarte. On the way out of class, the L in GROWL POWER comes off Galleria’s chocker and one of the students points it out. Channel and Galleria are embarrassed and Keisha suggest they tell Daisy before hers falls off.

They decide not to Daisy but they plan to tell Dorinda to tell Laronda. Daisy comes up to Channel and says the snaps have come off hers and asks for her money back. Channel is so flustered she drops all the things from her backpack. She offers to make her another one but Daisy says that’s ok. They’re cute tho. Bubbles blames Channel for suggesting to use the Wacky Glue. Channel says but that’s not on her because the snaps came off. Dorinda says the letters came off LaRonda’s and gives it back to Galleria. They show each other each of the damaged chockers.

Derek then comes down the hallway calling them out on their foul product. He then demands his money back. He tells her he’s not the SCHEMO she thinks he is and throws the letters at her. Mackereel gives his back too. The CG’s sit there in silence for a minute. While they regroup, Channel encourages them by telling them a story about Mrs. Doreatha’s first cat suits and how she made them too small and all the problems she had when she first started her business. She and Juanita had a big fight over it because Juanita didn’t think she’d be a designer.

Channel says she feels like its her fault. Bubbles says they just tried to do to much and make everyone proud. They agree they just have to keep trying until they hear from Def Duck. They also agree that they have a lot to learn. Channel adds “Woof There It Is.” The other join in and Bubbles comes up with a rap right on the spot that gets everyone around them hyped.

After school, Do, Channel, and Galleria meet up with the twins and they go to Toto’s and learn from Gallerina’s father what went wrong with the chockers. They learn how to use the snap machine and are told how to not make the letters fall off. They make six chockers. The twins ask Channel what her plans are later and she says she’s training for the Junior Gobbler’s race. She invites the twins but they say they have plans with their daddy. So, she invites Dorinda. (The prize is a 10lb turkey). Dorinda agrees. They have to run a few times a week anyway to build endurance when they perform. Pucci turns the offer to run with them down.

Channel decides to ask her mom about the hedgehog. She’s working on her book “It’s Raining Tycoons”. She turns down the dog idea so Channel shows her the book. Her mom thinks they’re cute but says no because when she’s tired of playing with it, it’ll be on her to take care of it. This pisses off Channel. All her mother every tells her is no. Dorinda tells her not to be mad at her mom, but she can’t think of anything else to get him (and she really doesn’t have any money).

Channel goes to Princess Pamela’s to get her braids taken down -and just because she loves being around her-. Channel tells her about her problem hoping she’ll have a solution. NOTE: Princess Pamela is a psychic but she’s not evil. Where Abdula is a priestess and she is. She says she doesn’t see the furry creature coming under her pillow but something better is coming. She also says she’ll hear something very soon (from Def Duck). Channel later is a dream. (I think I’ll copy and paste this). This is taken from the book

*(Channel) see lots of money falling, falling from the sky. Bubbles is in the dream, too. She has an umbrella, and we are trying to grab all the money that is falling from the sky. Then we start fighting over the money. Bubbles is trying to grab it from me, because, she screams, “You don’t deserve it!” Suddenly it starts raining, and we’re both crying because we’re getting all wet. The money is getting wet, too—and Bubbles starts screaming that our dreams are ruined, and how it’s all my fault!

It starts raining so hard that we both give up grabbing for the falling money. We struggle to get under the same umbrella, to keep from getting wet. All of a sudden, the umbrella starts lifting us up off the ground, and we’re flying through the air! I start getting scared, but Bubbles says, “Just hang on real tight, and we won’t have anything to be afraid of anymore.”

Channel wakes to her pager going off and Bubbles tells her to meet her in their chat room. Bubbles says they’re going to let them record a few songs for a demo. Bubbles says it’s definitely going to start raining benjamins now. Channel says that would make a great song title and Bubbles agrees and says she’s going to start writing the song. When they end the conversation, Channel wonders why Bubbles always gets to write the songs. She wants to write Its Raining Benjamins. Channel says she’ll tell her but she’s undecided when exactly. Then she wishes she never mentioned it.

The next day the CG’s go to the Mad Millinieum Fashion Show that Derek’s in. They thought the showcase went really well, and now they want to put us in the studio to cut a demo—with a producer named Mouse Almighty. They said we should record three to five songs. Then they’ll decide if they want to give us a record deal. He’s worked with a few other girl groups. Channel asks if they’ll let them record Bubble’s songs but she says she doesn’t know. They’ll have to do what Def Duck wants since they’re the ones paying. Channel decides its not a good time to bring up writing the song.

Channel thinks of the first word in what will be her lyrics “Halleluiah”. When Derek comes over to the CG’s he kisses Galleria on the cheek. She tells him they found out how to make the chockers and she took orders for 5 more. Channel finds out Makerel is into design and they discuss whose clothes they like. Mackerel says he’ll buy another chocker from her. Bubbles apologizes to Derek and he asks her out and she says “they can move and grove”. He tells her to make him another chocker.

Galleria says she’s not really going out with him. She’s just trying to get their business back and make up for what she did. And she didn’t really have five orders. She just made it up. The twins get two more orders. They find out the guy with Derek and Mackerel’s name is Spider. Channel blurts out and asks Bubbles if she can write the song. Bubbles tells her to get real. She can’t even make the chockers. Bubbles says she just doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Channel says then she’s leaving. Channel says she’s sick of Bubbles trying to control everything. They all leave. Dorida runs after Channel and says she’ll talk to Galleria. It’s not right for them to always be fighting. Channel says whatever.

The next day, Galleria calls and says they’ll write the song at Channel’s house. Channel acts like she doesn’t care one way or the other. Galleria says she’s agreeing to write the song. What else does she want. Channel says an apology. So, Galleria apologizes. Back at school they make 20.00 from Derek and Mackerel. At school, Galleria tells them they meet with Mouse Friday so he can get a feel for what kind of songs to shop for. They work on the song and WAIT A MINUTE is this a parody of “It’s Raining Men”? (It’s raining men. Halleluiah. It’s rainging men).

Mr. Fudge introduces them to his assistant Huruko Yamahaki and Mouse Almight the producer. He goes on to explain they’ll record a test single. Mouse will be responsible for selecting songs from various songwriters that he feels would really showcase the Cheetah Girls. If they feel that the songs are strong enough, the Cheetah Girls will be given a record deal option with Def Duck, for the release of one ‘test single.’ If that single tests well in the marketplace, the girls will then be given a full record deal, and you’ll go back in the studio and cut an album.

With the help of the CG’s and Dorothea giving her (her) check early, Channel gets Pucci a hedgehog. Galleria’s mom gets a cage. For his birthday, Pucci gets a computer game (from his mom), a yellow and black sweater (for his Abuela), a burgundy velvet suit (from Doretha), and the pygmy hedgehog (from Galleria and Channel)-Juanita says she’s not taking care of it so Channel better help-. His dad gives him a book. Pucci throws it on the floor and tells his dad he doesn’t want it. Its called Harry Henpeckers Book for Geography.

His dad tells his mom she said he doesn’t read and he was trying to help. He says he’ll get him another present. His mom said make it something he likes. His dad leaves after this. Pucci says he likes Channel and Galleria’s present best and also Madrina’s. Doretha says she doesn’t blame him. No one wants a school book for a present but pretend you like and then you can toss it later. Pucci says Channel isn’t so bad for a sister and she invites him to see her room. Bubbles decides to stay over. They talk about the record deal and Channel and Bubbles say they hope Def Duck doesn’t make them record lame songs. Channel tells Bubbles she doesn’t have to worry because the weather forecast looks like its raining benjamins.

My Thoughts
*Just a thought that popped in my head while I was reading this. I’m all for the idea of the CG coming up and starting their own business and the chockers was a pretty fly idea. BUT, it sounds like they’re all selling the same chocker’s. I know they’re trying to stick with the cheetah print theme but switch it up. Can they make them in different colors? In my head I saw Derek wearing a zebra one on the runway. I think they should play around with different styles and designs with the cheetah pattern if that’s possible and maybe lose the letter’s all-together.

* It was cool to see this was the book that the dog poo scene was inspired by in the CG tv movie. Didn’t remember that. And Adriene acted the sensitive Channel odor thing PERFECTLY. I can still see her scrunching her nose up. REALLY NICE TOUCH. And also the red she wears. I love subtle throw backs.

*I also kind of noticed Mackerel and Channel’s slightly under the radar thing in the movie. Tho she doesn’t seem to like him here, in the movie she quickly changes their plans when he pleads with her to let them switch audition times. Hinting at possible feelings for him.

*Did not like how they make Chanel say “What happened?” over and over and sometimes it doesn’t even make sense with the rest of the conversations. Makes her look ditzy.

*Did Bubbles tell Chucie stick to what she was good at wiping the *** off her shoes? NAAAH SEE! And tv Bubbles might have had some tight lyrics but book Bubbles. I’m saying why would you want your name on Woof there it Is? You might wanna rethink that one Chuchie.

*And what is this about Channel not wanting to go to the bathroom unless it was cool with Bubbles. I’m really starting not to like book Chanel. Tv Channel NEVER would have stood for this. She wasn’t wiping Bubbles shoes to go along with her okey doke. TV Channel she was a little passive but she had SPICE and SASS! She got in Bubbles face.

*Would you really want to go into business with someone named (Mouse Almighty or Freddy Fudge? I’d hear those names and already think this was gonna be shady deal

*Picked out another RNB group (at least I think I did). The group with the girl with the rhine-stone eye patch and the other girls carrying the monkey head canes I think is supposed to be 1 of the Girls. I read that and I got a slight vision of video Do The What in my head and lo and behold they had canes. None had patches tho (that I could see). Funny what your brain tends to remember from the old days. Took me a minute to find the video. I may be wrong but no other girl group walked around with canes that I recall,
*Then let me get this straight. Bubbles doesn’t want Chucie to take Spanish because that’s cheating but she takes Italian.

Rating: 5 Didn’t like this one that much. It goes out of it’s way to make Chanel look stupid. Not just a little bit. She (the author) REALLY does a number on her in this. I don’t like this version AT ALL! I need my sexy, senorita, that slayed in the tv movie. This one was just WEAK! Really, she doesn’t know what a verse is or a song writer’s credit?
