Never listen to the pleas of the dead. Never betray the oaths made to the spirits. Never make a deal with a Hag. Never trust the Fae.
The Great Elm placed a task upon my soul which only death or triumph can release me from.
I am more than I thought myself to be but less than fate seems to believe I might be.
Hendrix Bane has marked me for death as surely as I have marked him as my enemy. I am trapped in the castle of my adversary and all that passed between us before this moment has been cast aside like ashes from a fire that burned too hot and too fast to bask in.
My sister is lost to me once more and doubts gnaw at my insides. All the things I never wanted myself to believe have forced themselves to the forefront of my mind. Did I even achieve anything in those trees? Or will the world rejoice at my success only to curse my name for their downfall in the end?
I have an impossible task to fulfil and my accomplice in it has nothing but hatred for me in his heart. So now I’m at the mercy of the man who helped me survive the curse of the forest. And his wrath is nothing short of sinful.
I only pray I don’t lose myself to the corruption which has taken hold of him. And I don’t know if I will escape him before I’m consumed by it too.
But maybe that’s what I’m hoping for.

I absolutely savoured every word in this book as I was so happy to be jumping back into Ferris and Hendrix’s world.
Book 2 definitely picked up where book 1 left off with Ferris and Hendrix’s fate entwined even further after the trials of the treacherous forrest. The pair have now been tasked to search for Providence and because of this Hendrix refuses to have Ferris far from his side and he does the only logical thing he can think of and that is bring her back to his castle.
The line from enemies to lovers was crossed over and crossed back into enemies after the events of book one and we see our characters reluctant to work together despite the brewing tension and I was absolutely here for every second of it because when that tension reached its peak it was explosive. The banter between these two was also hilarious.
While in book 1 it predominantly focused on the forest and spirits, now we are focused on Rathian itself and the fallouts that has come to pass and the one question that needs answering where is Providence?
In book 1 we learned why Hendrix was desperate to claim the boon, which so he could be release his family from a fate that he had a part in designing. But what I certainly wasn’t expecting was to be introduced to said family in this book. We are introduced to his brother, uncle, mother and father but my favourite introduction was of his sister Amelda, as she is quite a character and even in death she is not afraid to speak her mind and is quite humerus. She also takes to Ferris quite well and can definitely see the spark that Hendrix refuses to acknowledge throughout this book.
We dive a lot deeper into Hendrix’s character as well and how he is tormented by his mistakes and while he does have his family’s presence near in a sense he is full of grief that he is why they are in that state to begin with. But one things for sure that he comes to the conclusion he will not allow death to take Ferris Creed from him as long as he is on this earth.
Like Hendrix we also dive deeper into Ferris’s character as she is now bonded to spirits and is exploring the depths of that power. She was never a damsel to begin with and that was evident in book one but I love how she took charge in many situations of this book and certainly didn’t back down from Hendrix dominating presence.
Like any twisted series book/series I questioned every single detail throughout as even the smallest thing could be significant at a later date and honestly I am just fascinated in the worlds these sisters create. Of course I expected the ever so dreaded cliffhanger that I sat there for about 15 minutes contemplating life afterward but again it was to be expected.
Overall I am absolutely loving Ferris and Hendrix’s journey and I cannot wait to dive back into this world in the near future. Thank you to the authors who provided an early copy of their book for my honest thoughts 💭
The ending was so good but unfortunately most of the book was too long. I love the action and plot that the authors write but not a fan of constant monologue in Ferris's head. It got a bit boring in between. The ending did make up for it though. Also I loved the character of Bane's sister. She was so funny.
Mostly alternating POV. This is my favorite couple dynamic: exasperated man/Woman who is competent and the reason for his exasperation. I’ll eat it up every time. This book is very Quest like throughout as we follow them finding different items or performing certain tasks to reach their end goal. Ferris continues to be right (as most women are) and very smart in how she goes about most things. And if you were one who thought the first cliffhanger really wasn’t all that bad (for them), don’t worry they make up for it in this one.
