Joon Ren maintains perfect, sadistic control of his planet Kryo... until he buys a young woman with amnesia from militants pursuing her. He names her Ha-Yun, and she turns into the eye of a deadly storm when his people object to her presence and a mysterious rival threatens Ren's leadership.
Stubborn and resourceful, Ha-Yun struggles to recover her memory while working as Ren's servant. Flashbacks of harrowing experiences come to her as she navigates his hostile world. Painful memories trickling back help her rediscover her precise aim with throwing knives and her comprehensive weapons knowledge. As Ren's competitors lash out she must choose between Ren's obsessive protection and the traumatic past she escaped.
And she must choose soon. Kryo won't wait for her to decide, and her past is close behind her.
L. A. Tucker is an emerging science fiction author. This is her second book. She is completely bilingual in Spanish and English and has dabbled in Russian. She’s an avid reader, and loves to lose herself in a good sci fi or dystopian novel, as well as stories that combine realistic and fantastic elements. She prefers to write with more than one culture in mind because our world is more than any one country or continent. In her free time she enjoys reading, art, gaming and hanging out with her four Chihuahuas: Niko (Nikolai), Dima (Dmitri), Agatha, and Midna.
I received a digital ARC with no expectations in return. The thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Ok. So, to be completely honest, I was a little skeptical. I mean, mob boss, no spice love story, set in the future seemed a bit out there. But I do love a good dystopian fiction, no spice is perfect, and I read L.A. Tucker's previous book, even enjoyed it greatly, so I read this one.
...and so glad I did! What a well developed world! Complete with its own slang (to be fair, it's borrowed slang, but still perfect). This story has a well developed plot with twists you wouldn't expect. The main characters, the mob boss Joon Ren and a woman with amnesia are fully fleshed characters with their own excellent back stories too.
If you're like me, and a little skeptical of a futuristic mob boss romance, but you like clean dystopian fiction, read this and love it!
I'm really looking forward to the next part of this story!
Science fiction isn’t normally something I would choose to read but I was pleasantly surprise by this book. It was well written and the plot held my attention. You still get a morally grey, touch her and die mafia MMC just without the spice. It was actually a nice break from all the spicy books.
I received this as an advanced reader copy and am truly grateful to have been giving this opportunity.
