In Loman Master by L.A. Tucker, readers are thrust into the perilous world of Kryo, a planet where survival is a daily battle. The story follows Joon Ren, a ruthless mob boss, and Ha-Yun, a girl with amnesia who finds herself entangled in his chaotic life. Their connection unfolds amidst a backdrop of danger, with themes of forced proximity, contract marriage vibes, and the ever-popular “one bed” trope adding layers of tension and romance.

The writing is solid, immersing you in a gritty and dark atmosphere that perfectly complements the high stakes of the plot. I was captivated by the premise, blending dystopian elements with mafia intrigue, which kept me engaged from the start. However, the pacing felt a bit off at times; it moved slowly when I was eager for the tension to escalate. While there are some closed-door spice moments, I found myself wishing for a bit more heat, given the intense setup.

Despite its pacing issues, Loman Master delivers a fascinating story filled with intriguing characters and a compelling world. If you’re a fan of dystopian tales woven with mafia themes, this book is definitely worth a read!

Loman Master

I received a digital ARC with no expectations in return. The thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Ok. So, to be completely honest, I was a little skeptical. I mean, mob boss, no spice love story, set in the future seemed a bit out there. But I do love a good dystopian fiction, no spice is perfect, and I read L.A. Tucker's previous book, even enjoyed it greatly, so I read this one.

...and so glad I did! What a well developed world! Complete with its own slang (to be fair, it's borrowed slang, but still perfect). This story has a well developed plot with twists you wouldn't expect. The main characters, the mob boss Joon Ren and a woman with amnesia are fully fleshed characters with their own excellent back stories too.

If you're like me, and a little skeptical of a futuristic mob boss romance, but you like clean dystopian fiction, read this and love it!

I'm really looking forward to the next part of this story!

When I read the premise of Loman Master, I was immediately hooked and imagined a tense cat-and-mouse game between two potential lovers. Well, I was wrong, at least partially, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last time this novel proved me wrong.

The novel takes its time introducing a really cool worldbuilding concept, including unique slang and clear parallels to current global tensions, history, and politics. Instead of the fast-paced romance I expected, the relationship develops more subtly, unfolding at a nice pace alongside the slow unraveling of the characters’ complexity.
Especially around the halfway mark, the tension rises and will most likely keep you on the edge of your seat. I kept guessing what might come next, whom to trust and whom not, and of course what the true identity of the main character might be. As I mentioned before, I was successfully deceived nearly every time I thought I had figured it out, which absolutely deserves a bravo for the author.
Oh, and did I mention there are really funny and adorable dogs in this novel? Yes, you’re in for a ride.

My only criticism is that I found the brief depiction of migraine a little oversimplified, and I would have appreciated a short note at the beginning of the chapters indicating time skips, as those occasionally left me confused.

Overall, Loman Masters is a well-balanced novel, offering not only interesting worldbuilding and acompelling story, but also well fleshed-out, complex characters and interesting social commentary. I am really looking forward to any fucture novels set in this universe.

I couldn't take my hands off the book!
The new dystopian world is perfectly constructed. It is very uncluttered with details, everything is explained very timely and in place about the features of the Kryo planet. Which makes it easier to get acquainted with the planet.

Joon Ren - the leader of the Kryo planet, a gangster with an iron fist, not afraid of violence, a moral grey MMC. Until he meets his Ha-Yun.
Everything is a "touch her and you'll die, he smiles only at her, his heart belongs to her" variant. And I simply LOVED reading it!

The plot is well-constructed and beautifully written, with perfectly portrayed MMC and FMC. The book is filled with witty banter, deep devotion, and unexpected plot twists. For my taste - a completely balanced story.

Note that there are scenes of violence. It’s not overly graphic, but there’s enough to feel it—after all, Ren is a mob leader.

This is a well paced book with strong core characters and a lived in world. I appreciated seeing a closed door romance, I think it worked really well with the story that Tucker was wanting to tell and the relationship build up stands well enough on its own!

I appreciate the built-in foreshadowing that helped make the twist toward the end land effectively. There was definitely a lot of thought that went into making the pieces come together. While this is not a single standalone as implied by the ending, it does wrap most things up in a comfortable way while still leaving enough to work with for the next book in this series.

ARC review of Loman Master by L.A. Tucker

Science fiction isn’t normally something I would choose to read but I was pleasantly surprise by this book. It was well written and the plot held my attention. You still get a morally grey, touch her and die mafia MMC just without the spice. It was actually a nice break from all the spicy books.

I received this as an advanced reader copy and am truly grateful to have been giving this opportunity.

If scifi isn't your cup of tea but you're willing to try...
If a ruthless no nonsense honest man isn't your first or fifth choice but you're willing to give him a look...
If a pit full of large female felines isn't something you'd usually read about but you're curious to know why such a thing exists... Then this story is for you.
Honestly this book was something else, I went in with no big expectations other than to enjoy something out of my normal repertoire of books, I really don't know if that's a thing, but this story is worth the read.
It was interesting to see how L. A. Tucker painted the picture of body dysmorphia on such a physically strong individual. This concept is very real and I appreciate how well it was handled. Ren was what made this story "something else," he has obvious issues but he's charming like any good overlord/mob boss. Ren is also tender and attentive, at least that's what he's capable of when Ha-Yun shows up. I'm excited to see what book two has in store as we delve deeper into Ha-Yun's past.

I received a physical copy of the ARC.

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

What a good read, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect going into this but I totally enjoyed it from beginning to end. It’s always fun to learn a character as they are relearning themselves. Not only was this a love story but also full of action and some twists and turns. If you like a sci-fi/Dystopian romance I recommend giving this one a shot!

A fantastic second book from this new author. Sci-fi, romance, violence, mob boss and a good girl who can’t remember who she is. The story moved fast and didn’t lag. I’m looking forward to the sequel.
