Good refresher on the basics

I picked this up because I’ve been noticing I'm a bit more forgetful lately, and the idea of a guide that explains the science of memory without being too dry or medical sounded appealing. The book is definitely approachable; Mason does a good job of breaking down complex ideas like neuroplasticity into stuff that actually makes sense for a normal person. I also appreciated that he includes practical lifestyle tips (like how sleep and specific foods affect the brain) rather than just talking about theory. It feels like a very complete checklist for anyone who is just starting to take their brain health seriously.

However, if you are someone who already reads a lot about health and wellness, you might find a lot of this information pretty familiar. The advice on the "four pillars" (like exercise and stress management) is solid, but it’s the same standard advice you see in most health magazines. I was hoping for more unique memory games or specific mental drills, but a lot of it focuses on general lifestyle changes. It’s a well-organized summary if you need a reminder to take care of yourself, but don't expect any secret tricks you haven't heard before.
