The Squire Thief

Rate this book
He steals treasures. Someone else leaves death behind.

Veteran cop Richard Whitney must untangle a web of forgeries and murder before it reaches his family.

For years, the wealthy residents of Old Brookville, New York, have shrugged off the burglaries of The Squire—a thief who steals antique silver and leaves behind handwritten notes.

But when a socialite is found dead and her husband’s painting proves to be a counterfeit, Whitney is forced to see the crimes in a darker light. These new crimes stand in stark contrast to The Squire’s quirky thefts, and Whitney suspects someone far more dangerous is hiding in the thief’s shadow—putting him at odds with his superiors who think otherwise.

With help from his daughter, a college art student, Whitney follows a trail of deception that leads uncomfortably close to home. When a silver spoon arrives at the station—along with a chilling threat to his daughter—the investigation turns personal.

A layered mystery of art, deception, and hidden motives—where even the smallest clue can expose the truth.

This debut novel is an impressive first effort, delivering an intriguing storyline that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. The plot twists are well-timed and satisfying, adding depth and momentum without ever feeling forced. The author’s research on art and police procedures shines through, enriching the narrative with authentic detail and creating an immersive backdrop. Character development is another strong point - each figure feels layered, believable, and thoughtfully constructed. For a first-time writer, this book demonstrates remarkable skill, creativity, and promise. It’s an enjoyable, well-crafted read that leaves you eager to see what the author creates next. I definitely recommend The Squire Thief

This is a well written novel which makes it a joy to read, especially if you like well crafted whoduit’s. The intriguing plot twists in this amazing storyline will keep you guessing. However, you’ll be pleasantly surprised, if not completely shocked with the ending. The author’s artistic writing talents are evident throughout this murder/burglary mystery. The characters are well developed, and fit perfectly within the unfolding thriller. I highly recommend The Squire Thief…
