DescriptionIn the Florida swamps, the food chain has just been rewritten.
When a routine patrol in the Ten Thousand Islands uncovers a destroyed boat and a missing team, former Deputy Elena Cruz knows this is no ordinary poaching incident. The tracks are too deep, the violence too precise, and the silence of the mangroves too heavy.
Teaming up with a disgraced scientist and a journalist chasing a ghost story, Elena heads into the teeth of a Category Two hurricane to find the truth. But the storm isn't the only thing hunting them.
Deep in the flooded limestone caverns, a relic of the Cold War has woken up. It was engineered to track fear, bred for jungle warfare, and it has been waiting forty years for a new target.
Trapped between a government kill squad sent to bury the evidence and a biological nightmare that refuses to die, Elena must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to survive the night.
They built a monster to end wars. Now, it’s starting one.
This was a well written piece, the author didn't get lost in too much detail but gave just enough to paint a good picture. The characters were engaging and easy to root for. The book did drag on a bit. It got to the point where it seemed like I was reading the same scene over and over. Overall, it was an easy read and I will probably read more from the author in the future.
I have enjoyed every book Mr Blackwood has written but i think this will become my favorite. I enjoyed the setting of the mysterious swamps and the twist later in the book.
