Book 7 in the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series

In this book we read about Anne de Bourgh, she loves music and is going to be performing in the Christmas concert. But, right before she can start practicing with her duet partner, he is found murdered on the stage. Anne's mother, Caroline de Bourgh, who we have read about in previous books, is on the board for the venue and plans to shut down the concert if the culprit is not found. Anne is now determined to solve this mystery, and finds unexpected help in her new duet partner, Ernesto Garcia, someone she has fangirled over for a long time.

I really enjoyed this story about Anne, and that the author had some freedom in her character as she wasn't as prominent in Pride and Prejudice. I loved the cultural aspect the author included, with Anne visiting her abuelo and enjoying delicious food. Anne's fae gift sounds exhausting, but when she is around Ernesto, she finally finds someone that she can remove the "stopper" from her gift and let it be free. Anne and Ernesto work together to try to figure out who the murderer is, and get closer to each other as they investigate. Anne and Ernesto are so cute together, and really understand each other, even if Ernesto is human.

As always, I just find all the magical elements of these stories so enchanting and fun. Every time I read about these dishes that keep food warm, or other highly convenient items, or animated objects, it makes me wish those things really existed!

I think this installment leaned a little more towards the romance/Anne's story than the mystery, sometimes I forgot it was a mystery as Anne gets caught up in the struggle between her mother's expectations and wanting to be her true self.

And one of my favorite parts of each book, the Darcy and Elizabeth moments, they are always very prominent background characters, and this book continues that, with Anne and Ernesto unintentionally eavesdropping on quite a scene!

Some fav quotes:
"The tree's ornaments were all shaped like miniature musical instruments, each one enchanted to play its part in Sleigh Ride."

"...headed down the garland-lined hall, past life-sized nutcracker soldiers who saluted me as I passed."

"He was tall and lean, wearing jeans that fit like a dream and a black T-shirt that showed off sculpted forearms. His deep brown eyes met mine, eyes that I could lose myself in."

""Well, there's one surefire place to get all the gossip in Austen Heights. If anyone has secrets, Mrs. Bennet knows them. She's the owner of Cupid's Confections.""

"I'd seen Elizabeth and Darcy speaking together a few times. Honestly, I couldn't tell if they were enemies or friends, but the attraction between them was palpable."

"Something about this man made me giddy."

"I chose a cookie shaped like a bell that pealed a soft, clear note when I moved it."

Thank you so much to the author for a copy of this book!

"My mother would lose it if I were to date a human, or a rockstar, or a hockey player, and Neto was all of those things." 🎸

Anne’s Story was another fun addition to the Pride and Prejudice and Potions universe and although it wasn’t my favourite of the series so far, I still enjoyed the magical chaos and cosy mystery vibes that make these books such an easy escape. Anne and Ernesto (Neto) were an unexpected pairing and I actually really liked the contrast between her classical training and his rockstar energy. Their dynamic brought something a little different to the series and I appreciated that.

This instalment did feel a little rushed in places and the pacing was a bit all over the place for me. That said, the core elements I’ve come to love about these stories were still there. The murder mystery thread kept things interesting, the magical small town setting had plenty of charm and I liked watching Anne come into her own as the plot unfolded.

The mix of music, magic and mystery made this a unique little novella and even if it was not quite as polished as some of the others, it still added something enjoyable to the wider collection. A lighter, fun read that fans of the series will still appreciate.

Another great addition to this series! Anne is barely more than a background character in the original story, and I love what the author did with her here. She's not sickly since that doesn't really happen with the fae, so she's actually a musician. Her fae gift was also really neat and fit her character well. Her romance was so sweet as she learned to hold her own against her mother, and the tie-ins to the original Pride and Prejudice storyline were great, even if the Colonel didn't exist. I'm excited to see how Georgiana ties in next and what kind of trouble she finds herself mixed up in.

Another fun retelling in the world of pride and prejudice, with a cosy wintery atmosphere.
I liked the twist in Anne's perceived illness and her magical abilities, and seeing her enjoyment of music.
This was a short murder mystery with multiple suspects, and a sweet secret romance between Anne and Ernesto.
I liked how Anne stood up to her mother, and went against family expectations to pursue her heart.

4/5⭐️

Yay we finally got a de Bourgh story!! Anne’s story was fun, sweet, and really moving compared to other in this series. She really has the weight of the world on her shoulders and her family reputation to live up to, never seeming to have an opinion on how her life is ran. Seeing Anne grow and stand up for herself, her choices and her life was really great to see.☺️
I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to continue the series!! 🩷

Anne de Bourgh takes center stage in the seventh installment of the "Pride & Prejudice & Potions" cozy fantasy series.

Anne de Bourgh is a demure young woman who has done everything her mother has told her to her entire life. The only thing Anne truly has to herself is music. This year, Anne has been chosen to sing a duet at the upcoming Christmas concert. When her duet partner is suddenly murdered, Anne ends up teaming up with Ernesto Garcia, the man who is now singing the duet with her due to the demise of her previous partner. As the two hunt the killer, they find themself falling in love along the way.

I was really intrigued by this book because Anne is truly such a minor character in the original "Pride and Prejudice" that many liberties could be taken with her character. Cowart did an amazing job of fleshing out a modern-day noble who feels pressured by the legacy of her family but also wants to embrace her Latine heritage and follow her heart. Anne is such a timid and sweet young lady; I totally could see myself being friends with her.

Anne's fae power is heightened senses. This seems like a neat ability, but one that would be insanely overwhelming. I'm easily overstimulated, so I'd hate for senses even more enhanced than mine. I'm sure that it would be super helpful for a musician though. I'm looking forward to learning more about the magic that the rest of the characters in this series possess, too.

This one is by far the most Christmasy of the books in this series. A huge Christmas concert is a major plot point of this book, which means that the characters are constantly performing Christmas music. Anne and her love interest, Ernesto, also go ice skating, see a performance of "The Nutcracker" and embark in other such festive activities on their romantic outings. Also, mistletoe is one of the elements that initially brings Anne and Ernesto together, which is super cute and festive.

The actual murder plot in this one definitely took a back seat to the romance. I was interested to see how it happened, but none of the suspects were characters we'd met before this book, so I didn't really care if any of them got thrown in jail or not. Rather, I was completely head over heels for Ernesto and Anne's romance; they are just so darn cute!

The iconic fight scene between Darcy and Lizzy goes down in this one in which they scream at each other for being stubborn and altogether too prideful. I love seeing glimpses of their romance throughout this entire series. Following Lizzy and Darcy definitely helps give this series a coherent feel as well as allows for me to ship this iconic relationship for like twelve novellas, which is pretty fun.

Overall, "Anne's Story" has been one of my favorite installments in this series thus far. I absolutely love Anne as a main character and Ernesto is such as sweet love interest, too. The Christmas vibes in this one make it a perfect book to read around the holidays and added such a cozy nature to this story. I'm super excited to read the follow-up to Georgiana's story in the next book, as she was the character we followed in the prologue to the series. I am in desperate need to know just who her secret admirer is.

Thank you to the author for my early copy, here is my honest review. This was a 4.5 star for me so I've rounded up.

Anne plays a minor part in the original book but this story allows the reader a much better view into Anne and her world. The daughter of the influential Catherine de Bourgh, she is bound by honour, duty and appearances. Her fae powers give her heightened senses, which mean she finds the world and those around her overwhelming for most of the time. This leaves her seeking solace in music and means she is quietly reserved hiding in the background.

As part of the Austen Heights orchestra she has earned a converted duet in an upcoming performance. During a practice session one of the members ends up murdered, with very few others around she realises the suspect must be amongst them. In order for the show to continue she must find the murderer quickly. Ernesto Garcia “Neto”, a famous singer musician she's adored for years is drafted in as a replacement. Quiet Anne finds Neto to be the perfect duet partner and so much more.

It was a really charming story with quiet Anne being given a really sweet personality, one that sees her torn between duty and happiness at times. The romance between her and Neto was tender and a delight to read. I enjoyed seeing the two sides to Anne, getting to know the other side of her family and how they influenced her behaviour rather than her cold, austere mother we know so well.

The story wove in parts of the well known storyline between Elizabeth Bennett and Darcy seamlessly.

This was a fabulous quick and engrossing read for me. Can't wait for the next book.

I absolutely loved Pride & Prejudice & Potions: Anne’s Story! It was such a cozy, comforting read. Anne finally gets the chance to really shine. Even though she’s a minor character in Pride and Prejudice, she’s given so much depth and heart here. As Lady Catherine’s daughter, Anne is weighed down by expectations, and her strong fae magic makes everyday life exhausting. Music becomes her escape, and much of the story follows her quietly observing the world while trying to figure out who she is beyond what’s expected of her.

I really loved Anne’s relationship with her abuelo and the fun, magical moments with her abuela. The cultural details—the food, family, and traditions—were especially wonderful and added so much warmth to the story. Her time with her abuelo and her easy connection with Ernestos family felt very genuine.

Ernesto himself was a great match for Anne. Even though he’s a rock star, he’s kind, grounded, and completely supportive of her magic. Watching Anne finally embrace her full power with him by her side was lovely. Their relationship develops naturally as they work together to solve a murder, and their mutual understanding makes them such a sweet couple.

The mystery is definitely there, but it takes a backseat to Anne’s personal growth. While the mystery wraps up a bit quickly, the focus on Anne learning to stand up for herself—especially with her mother—was very satisfying and felt like the true heart of the story.

Overall, this book felt like a warm hug. The magical details throughout are fun and charming and really add to the cozy vibe. I loved it, flew through it, and would absolutely reread it.

Thank you to the author for the ARC!

In the newest fantastical retelling of Pride & Prejudice, we meet Anne - a fae with impressive musical talent and a desire to be her own person, not just who her mother wants her to be. However, while practicing for the orchestra concert, her duet partner is stabbed in the back - literally.

While the plot was good, the murder mystery felt more like a subplot than the main focus. I enjoyed it in the moment, but it feels off in hindsight. There’s also an imbalance of quality - Anne’s inner thoughts are very believable, but the author “tells” us a lot of information instead of letting us discover it and make inferences. For example - saying how Anne ordered food to be delivered “using the app on my phone” is implied, and a detail (calling vs. online delivery) that didn’t affect the story.

My favorite part was Anne’s journey in becoming herself. We see how her relationship with her Abuelo is important to her, and how she honors both sides of her heritage by the end. It’s clear a lot of time and focus went into this part of the plot, and it’s really well done - however, the book as a whole fell very middle-of-the-road for me. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books as they’re published!

This was a fun continuation of the series, and I'm so grateful for the eARCs in exchange for my honest review.

Anne is a character we know very little about in the original story, and much of Anne's character is from how her indomitable mother or others portray her. We see that with the beginning of Anne's story -- feeling defined and limited by being a de Bourgh, but Anne comes into herself through the book. The explanation for her shy/reclusiveness was a brilliant choice by the author and added complexity to Anne's character we've never seen before.

I loved the decision to make Anne's father Mexican and infuse food and cultural elements into shaping Anne into who she would be. This also allows her to connect in an authentic way with Neto that endeared her to his family in a sweet way.

The mystery felt like it took a very back burner role to Anne's quest to figure out her own path (which I enjoyed as character development) but it meant that the mystery felt too quickly wrapped up with few clues in my opinion.

I hope we get to read more about Anne's new bolder personality in the coming books as she's moved beyond Lady Catherine's shadow.

Thank you Michelle for allowing me the chance to read an advanced copy of Anne's Story. I was also curious about her story since we only saw her for maybe five minutes.

genre: Cozy paranormal romance
rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
spice: No spice 'cept mistletoe kisses 💋

📖abt the book:
*Pride & Prejudice retelling
*Supernatural beings & enchantment
*Christmas concert
*High fae female x human male
*Murder mystery
*Violinist and sensory-sensitive FMC
*Rockstar and hockey player MMC

🏍️my thoughts:
I've said it several times I think at this point, but I seriously love the mystery and creative liberties each author took. In Anne's story, the murder IS IN THE FIRST MF SENTENCE, but you'll keep guessing who did it until the end (I had a feeling who it was but the motive wasn't fully there until the end). But do you know how insane it is to have the murder right off the bat? Amazingly insane of course.

Though Anne's story is at the part where Lizzy finds out that Darcy was the one who encouraged Charles to stay away from Jane, and then the famous rain rejection (one of my favorite parts ngl), I again love the creative differences between the original and Anne's story. Mainly because though marrying your cousins was normal in that time period, it was clear that Anne would NOT be marrying Darcy 😮‍💨 Sure Lady Catherine wanted her to still marry with her fae standing, but no more cousin Darcy 🤣

Anne and Neto were so cute together, with their musical duets and mistletoe kisses. I love how Michelle included their Latin culture with ofrendas, spicy dishes (including a green chile apple pie), and the family dynamics. I wish that we learned more about her father and Catherine but maybe Michelle will give us a novella in the future 🖤

❄️ Join me in falling in love with Austen Heights and the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series that only has five books left!!

Enjoyable, quick mystery.

Found this series through a friend’s recommendations and decided to read this book as part of my holiday reading list. I will for sure be going back to catch up on the previous stories, as well as reading the following in the series.

This was a perfect little mystery. I enjoyed watching Anne come into her self and take back her independence. She has spent her life living up to the expectations of her mother, her last name, and place in society. While I wasn’t a huge fan of her overbearing (and snooty) mother, I respected her a bit more by the ending.

Abuelo was the sweetest character and you could feel his fierce love of Anne in the pages. I loved the scenes with him and Abuela and wish I could settle at their counter with a nice cup of hot chocolate when I needed a reminder to love myself.

Ernesto and Anne’s budding relationship was adorably done. Hope to see more of where this goes in future books. The differing backgrounds and family dynamic of the two main characters added depth to both, as well as the story as a whole.

Overall, a quick and feel good mystery I am glad I picked up.

Another great book in the series albeit a little shorter than the others.

I have enjoyed Michelle’s writing of Anne’s story and how she really brought her character to life. Anne’s relationship with her abuelo (grandfather) and her weekly visits to see him is lovely their closeness really came across. Reading how Anne grew as the book progressed in taking her life back which was quite obviously very hard. The blossoming romance between Anne and Ernesto I hope we get to read more on the relationship in the upcoming coming books.

I look forward to the next book Georgian’s story.

Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to be on the ARC team!

Anne’s life has always swung between extremes, though not everyone notices it… After all, despite her heightened sensitivity, she is often seen as quiet and odd — shaped by her mother’s expectations and constant demands.

To many, her connection to music seems like nothing more than a whim her mother tolerates, not the deep passion and safe haven it truly is for Anne. It’s no surprise that some even wonder whether her family name was the real reason she earned a duet in the Christmas concert.

But when the event takes an unexpected turn, Anne suddenly finds herself close to her longtime idol — and begins to question whether she stayed distant from the world because of duty… or because she had simply never met someone capable of liking her for who she truly is.

loved reading about Anne, her heritage and her love of music. It was great to see her personality outside of her mother and her family ties on the Du Bourgh side. Anne's relationship with her abuelo was so sweet! their weekly lunch dates and his support of her dreams along with little hints of her abuela. I was happy to see Anne stand up to her mother in her decision making about her life, career and love. Finally someone to put lady Catherine in her place! It made me so happy to read about the beginning of her relationship with Neto his support about her choosing what she wanted in life. He pushed her to see her full potential and to come out of her mother's shadows and to not hide herself any longer.

Another great story in this series, this time from Anne‘s pov.

I always wondered what type of character she‘d be and the way she was written in this book, it was a joy to read. Shy and quiet in the beginning, self termined and more outspoken in the end.

I loved how they made her half latina, bcs it gave a new interesting sight into Lady Catherine and her past.
Loved Anne‘s abuelo and her abuelita ;) That was a really nice touch and I would have loved to see more of that.

The mystery, again very cleverly done. And the way the author wove in the scene with Darcy and Elisabeth? That was really good.

All in all another great read in this series and I really can‘ recommend these books more often!

Hello, people!
This is the seventh book in the Jane Austen Cozy Mysteries series: Pride & Prejudice & Potions.
I started this series with great joy and as the books go by, I get even more excited. Each author leaves their own mark and offers their readers a variety of emotions.
The magic combined with the mystery make the story excellent. The cozy atmosphere, the suspense, the warmth and the characters win over even the most demanding.
The author's writing, once again, is sweet, enjoyable, pleasant and fantastic. The story reads breathlessly and the surprises and twists excite everyone.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Thank you very much to the author and @lauramdrakebooks for the eARC!

Another wonderful installment in this series! I absolutely adore these books, and this time we get to follow Anne. While she wasn’t a huge part of the original Pride and Prejudice series, it was such a joy to finally meet her properly and really get to know her character.

I especially loved seeing Anne’s relationships unfold...her bond with her Abuelo completely stole my heart.

There is a murder mystery element woven in, but it definitely felt more like a back-burner storyline. The romance between Anne and Ernesto, along with Anne’s relationship with her mother, took center stage. I would’ve loved a bit more focus on the mystery, but honestly, the story was still wonderful and so enjoyable.

I’m already looking forward to the next installment in this series!

Interesting series with that Pride and Prejudice inspiration for all the books with a bit magical surprises. This one is Anne’s story, which is great because I like seeing her come into her own. She’s been overshadowed by her mother’s antics, so she’s needing to gain that confidence to stand up for herself and take control of her own life. Plus, add in a murder mystery and it’s fun times! Anne is a musician, whose duet partner has been; dun dun dunnnnn, murdered! Anne teams up with rocker, Ernesto, to solve the mystery. Mama de Bourgh wouldn’t be very happy to know that Anne is feeling pulled towards the rocker, but chemistry won’t be denied! Entertaining read!

This was a sweet continuation in the story. I enjoyed getting to hear more about Anne’s mother from her perspective. This felt like one of the shorter of the books in the series but I still enjoyed it a lot. I especially loved seeing the Lizzy and Darcy scene unfold in this book. Was great showing their dynamic and getting to see glimpses of them more. I can’t wait to read Darcy’s book and finally see the two of them and their chemistry again! But until then, this one was another good read! Thanks to the author for an arc copy of this book for this honest review.

Even though this felt like a shorter book in this series, I loved getting Annes perspective a lot! I also loved seeing her relationship with her mother in her perspective and stand up for herself.

The scene we got to witness through Annes eyes with Elizabeth and Darcy was SO good. I really do appreciate how these authors take scenes from the original and keep to them in these fun retellings.

I also appreciate the representation of different cultures. Such a fun spin on these fun novels!

Looking forward to more in this series!

First of all, every cover in this story is just awesome! 💓

Anne was just so good and her relationship with her abuelo was so beautiful to read.
I loved how headstrong Anne was and how she finally stood up to her mother.
And it was so beautiful to read how her relationship with Ernesto grew over the story.

it was really cosy and I loved the murder mystery element as well, one of the best parts of this series is how these cases are executed so well.

This story was delightful! I have been really enjoying this series and this book was no exception. Anne has always been one of those characters in the background of Jane Austen's world and I love that she got to have the spotlight here. I also loved how the author reimagined her sickly disposition that we see in the original story.

The romance was lovely and swoony and cozy. The pacing was well done for the quick read that it is. Ah, I just greatly enjoyed it!

Thank you so much for the arc and this review is my own and given of my own volition:)

This story has a lot more character and relationship development than some of the other books with the mystery not quite as prevalent. So if you read these books more for the mystery fantasy, just beware that is not the main focus. But what I do love is Anne, coming into herself. Discovering she is more than a puppet on her mother string, and that she is old enough to make decisions for herself. I thought it was nice to have one of the books in the series a little more on the lighter side.
A clean romance with a little bit of magic, a little bit of mystery and a quick easy read.

Being that this was book 7 in the series, this one stole my heart more than all the others so far. There was little slow pace to the romance side of things, but that made it more enjoyable. Some love stories are more fast paced than others, and it provides a look at a woman who idolized someone growing up and had the chance of beginning a romantic relationship with them. It was also an accurate representation of families, not always accepting their children’s choices and the emotions that are drawn from these decisions and actions. I loved this read so much. Anne & Ernesto all the way.

Anne de Bourgh has the weight of the family name on her shoulders as well as her fae gift of enhanced senses. She is the first person to find Paulo’s body and her new duet with the rockstar Ernesto Garcia hangs in the balance of her solving the murder. Can she stand up to her mother or will she lose it all?

A light and fun pre-Christmas mystery. A wonderful exploration on Jane Austen’s character of Anne de Bourgh. Page turning twists till the end! Loved that there is more interaction between Darcy and Elizabeth in this one as well and I can’t wait for the next installment.

I have loved every book in this series so far! I almost feel like I can feel Anne’s pain with the sensory stuff, as I’m autistic. I feel it was described perfectly with the overload. I love how down to earth Ernesto is, even with him being a rock star. It reminds us that celebrities are just people too. I always love getting to read about woman standing up for who they are regardless of the outcomes and this one was no exception!

I loved watching Anne open up and learn to live beyond the weight of her mother’s expectations, finally standing up for herself and stepping into who she wants to be. Watching her cozy up to the real Ernesto, the long-time crush she never quite forgot, made their story even sweeter. I love watching the two of them work together to solve the mystery, all while the drama surrounding Darcy and Lizzy unfolded in the background. I received this as an ARC and absolutely grateful for it.

I'm going to say this now even though it's book 7 of 12. This has been my favorite series of 2025. Anne's story just added another great layer. Since Anne isn't a prominent character in P&P, the characterization here was so fun, and I enjoyed the twist on her "frailty". Loved her and Ernestos' relationship. I also enjoyed seeing prior characters in the story. Such a fun read.

I received this book as an ARC. All opinions are my own.
